I posted the typed draft where it showed Armand was present when Sybelle and Benji (then Mariane and Rassem) were turned. But what's this? In the earliest notes, it's Mariane being turned... with help from Santino as well. And Daniel.

One of my favorite things about how Anne Rice writes historical fiction: she doesn't sugar-coat her characters.
As in, there was never going to be any way all these vampires going back 6000 years were going to align with modern sensibilities. They're not savory. They suck.
First off, any male of status from before the Great Depression probably did, in fact, look at an underage girl and think, "she LOOKS like she could grow up cute and interesting, but do I want to wait to ask her dad and risk someone else calling dibs in the meantime?"
Lestat: Killed majestic, beautiful animals that were only trying to feed themselves. To save the lives of people who were counting on him, yeah, but still.
Marius: Literally from ancient Rome, lots of ideals from that time, pederastic relationship with Armand, see above disclaimer about males from prior to the Great Depression.
Armand, Santino, most of the de Landens: I do feel like the Children of Darkness/Satan wouldn't have been founded in our time, as evidenced by Lestat so easily disbanding them with basic Enlightenment talking points, so I think it counts.
Louis: LITERALLY OWNED SLAVES. And not in a bullshit "but I treat them so nice and they'd just be owned by someone mean if not for me!" way, he legit believed this was what black people were for. Until he became a vampire and all humans looked equal(ly foodlike) to him.
Gabrielle: Let other people raise her kids while she became a library hermit.
Maharet and Mekare: Cannibals. Oh, sorry. Respectful cannibals.
Khayman: Nnnot even gonna be sarcastic about this one. He was as much a victim of it as Maharet and Mekare, hence them not blaming him in the slightest. But people today would be put on trial for following an order like that one, so I figure it belongs here.
Daniel: idk probably unprotected gay sex. It was the 70's.
Claudia: Gets a pass. She was five. All the bad shit she does is unrelated to her time.
Mael: Helped keep a vampire captive for years, then proceeded to kidnap someone and force them to become a vampire, all because "idk we're kooky druids and it's our religion."
Everard: Laughs at Benedict for being kidnapped and having his blood stolen. Victim-blaming at its finest.
Akasha and Enkil: I mean, we know what they did, but everyone hated them in their own time, too, so.
Eudoxia: Jesus Christ.
Davis: HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG EVER IN HIS LIFE. /protects him forever #theonlyinnocentvampireprobably
And you know what? I'd take the worst of these over Bill Compton, Damon Salvatore, or Whassisface Cullen fighting for the Confederacy because "the greater good." Like bro. At least the dickheads above are being honest about it and we can judge those parts of them appropriately. You're trying to make us think you were doing something honorable by being vague. We know what you were really fighting for, and so do you.
Moral of the story: If you're gonna be evil, trying to be sneaky about it only makes it worse.

I get that Armand is a vampire and has always gone about killing other vampires, but Louis and Lestat forgiving him was always a plot hole for me. I am able to overlook it because I like Armand, but come on, this is not even realistic from vampire standards. Armand’s own fledgling, Daniel, lost his mind and was incredibly reckless and he was cared for and protected. If Armand had a reason for not wanting reckless younger vampires around, he would have killed Daniel when he went mad.  If anyone touched a hair on Daniel’s head, we all know Armand would tear them to shreds right on the spot and definitely not have forgiven them easily or quickly. Marius had Santino killed decades after he kidnapped Armand.  These vampires hold grudges. It just makes it harder to believe that Louis and Lestat loved Claudia that they are able to forgive her murderer so easily and quickly.
Nonny...
So first - Marius did not have Santino killed decades after he abducted Armand?!
Like... This is from "The Vampire Armand":
"Let's go then," Marius said. "Our work's done. Every trace of every one is now obliterated. But promise me in your old Roman Catholic soul, you won't go seeking the Veil. A million pairs of eyes have looked on it, Santino, and nothing's changed. The world is the world, and children die in every quadrant under Heaven, hungry and alone."
Marius and Santino, out and about in New York, after Memnoch.
Armand loves Daniel, and that makes all the difference. AND Daniel was taken in during the phase he went mad by Marius.
I... maybe you should reread the books? Because Armand literally spells out the difference of why he is able to kill some so easily... and is utterly unable to let others die:
It's whether he loves them - or not.
And grudges... yes, sometimes they do.
But eternity is a long time, and shit happens. And ultimately understanding, too. And eternity is a long time to be alone, and while they are often loners... they crave companionship and love.

Oh wait, if we're going to have Armand telling his story that gives us a lot of things to look forward to, will we get the chance to see Santino, Allesandra, Riccardo and Bianca? If Marius is on "Daniel's side", will we get a glimpse of Pandora, Bianca or Avicus and Mael? Or even Thornevald? Do you understand? When the Queen arrives, it will be necessary to unite all the vampires capable of thinking clearly. They'll have to fill a huge table with thinking heads.
Not to mention Seth with Fareed and even Nebamun! Aaaaaaah😭😭
If Louis is in his Merrick era then what happens to him will impact almost literally with the end of Akasha (about the things Louis explains in the Prince Lestat era), they're telling a story that covers all the books and so it's something to think about...

The collection at Tulane University only seemed (as far as we could tell?) to have partial bits of the Queen of the Damned draft. Here's a link to everything we found. There are some definite changes, though it'll also be very familiar!
(This is all of the Queen of the Damned book material we have in its entirety. There may be more, but we were forced to triage and made and effort to digitize certain materials we thought would be most helpful.)

Okay, this is a weird complaint, but it bothers me that Armand kept his name as "Armand". I mean, instead of later on changing his name back to his birth name of "Andrei" or giving himself a new name, he kept "Armand", the name given to him by Allesandra, Santino's companion who helped in Armand's/Amadeo's torture, who helped in kidnapping him and killing his friends/surrogate family members. He kept that name and asks everyone to call him by it... The name he was given after being mentally broken.
She and Santino, etc. brainwashed him in a way to indoctrinate him into their cult and renamed him as such, and yet, after leaving the cult lifestyle and finding new meaning in his life centuries later, he still goes by his cult name.
It just bugs me, but, then again, maybe it's his trauma and way of coping... Idk.
