all the art of yavanna has her as this like… generic elegant elf-y looking smiley lady in fields of wildflowers and it’s like actually if you had consulted the sansukh appendices in your research you would know that she’s throttlingly terrifying actually so note that down. like that series is SO huge and there’s so much of it that will forever be Uncontestable Lore in my mind now but for some reason one of the images that really really sticks with me is this pair of acid green eyes just staring unblinkingly down out of a tree while gimli and thorin displaying greater wisdom than either ever demonstrated in life or death absolutely hit the fucking decks and spend the next several minutes not breathing in the hope that the big scary tree lady will go away

I finally finished Sansukh and uhhhhhhhh I’ve never had a happy ending gut me so bad
#I’ve yet to read the appendices#and will probably wait a while to do so bc oh boy that’s a lot of words#but wow Sansukh really made me cry#and I don’t really cry at books much moves yes but not really written works#I used to be an elf person when I first read/watched lotr#but sansukh has me converted#I love them#and I’m sad but also happy#damn this fic for making me have emotions#key reads fanfiction#sansukh

you see, the problem I have when I re-read Sansukh is that, when I finish, I have to read through the appendices, and then I finish *those* I want nothing more than to start again from the beginning. It is, to be fair, the best sort of problem to have.

Two very different but equally remarkable Dwarves learn to lean on each other in quiet, subtle ways.
And there is a pig called Petal.
A “laugh hard, cry hard” sort of thing.
A story of friendship and family, of overcoming and surviving, of solidarity and a hope that will not be quelled. Set in the Sansûkh-verse, but requires no previous knowledge apart from assuming that any unfamiliar name is probably an OC, and includes, among other things, a dash of politics, many imaginative and increasingly hilarious forms of address, and some aptly-named and too-clever pigs.
Following the best tradition of epistolary tales, you get both a lovely number of juicy anecdotes - and just enough detail to imagine the goings-on between missives. The letters themselves are written in solid and distinct character voices, and some of them will make your sides hurt with affectionate familial (and consequently ruthless) banter, while others clench tight around your heart with the grief that runs between the lines.
And then there’s the ending… well, you know the ending. It is inevitable, yet it hits like a punch in the gut, as it always does.
Recommended for those who want a full gamut of feelings with their reading, and who mind neither an occasional spitted drink nor the taste of tears.

Hey! I know you are still struggling a lot and hope you are doing well. I have already bought the sansukh books and have the pdf. But I was wondering if there was an appendices or sequel pdf? I had been waiting to read it until it was released, of course plans change, but do you have a pdf I could print myself with your cover art? Or is that something I would have to create on my own? No pressure of course. I was just curious since I had wanted the set to match since I loved your art so much. I was pretty sure i had seen you draw a cover for the sequel. Also let me know what I can do to help if you need it!
I did actually make an appendices! On the last day of sansukh week I'm going to upload the PDF for it alongside the cover I made for free on my kofi ^^)/

Inspired by Sansukh chapter 42.
Frodo Baggins learns a very interesting song.
Sansukh updated, I read the new chapter, and then my brain exploded and this was the result. I hope this makes up at least a little for how inconsistent I’ve been being lately. Most of what I’m writing at the moment is stuff that I can’t or won’t post just yet (A bardainduil Triad-Verse Big Bang fic, another 1000 Gigolas Fics Challenge fic, a giant-ass lotr time-travel fic that’s too close to my heart to be posted while it’s still a WIP, etc), but I really miss writing one-shots, so maybe I’ll manage to write a few more soon... -shrugs- Either way, enjoy this ridiculous fluff-fest in the mean time <3

no sorry you didn't! i decided not to rerelease them because of the new guidelines put forth by the tolkien estate - it's safer to just let it be - however! there is a full free to download PDF pinned to my page, alongside the reading companion & appendices

first and foremost if you haven't read Sansûkh by @determamfidd what are you doing go do that right now - sansukh is bagginshield and gigolas, told from the end of BOTFA all the way through the end of LOTR's appendices as Thorin Oakenshield wakes up after death and begins watching over Bilbo and eventually the whole fellowship. this fic is beloved of me and is just so so SO GOOD, yes it's long and daunting but i promise, you will not be disappointed
another classic is Prayers to Broken Stone by @avelera this, my friend, is the best beauty and the beast au you will ever read. in this fic, thorin holes up inside Erebor and becomes even further infected by his dragon sickness, and actually slowly transforming into a dragon! only bilbo is brave enough to reenter erebor and take care of Thorin in his terrific state! this one i love to death <3
Clarity of Vision by @mithen is an AU fic for the ages! in this alternate timeline, Erebor has never fallen and bilbo finds himself drawn into a quest to help heal the ailing King Thror! also, the sequel to this fic Clarity of Purpose is so fucking good and is also very iconic
An Expected Journey by @mariejacquelyn is a classic time travel au and is actually the very first fic on ao3 i ever read! (and has great influenced my preference for time travel aus since then) in this, bilbo makes a wish at the end of his life to go back to before the quest and save Thorin, Fili and Kili, well, he gets his wish, but finds it hard to hide his origins........
How the West Was Won and Where it Got Us by stickman i think about in the wee hours....... this non-linear fic examines Bilbo and Thorin's relationship as grad students in a modern au. This one is rife with family drama and that good good angst
Nothing Gold Can Stay by @perkynurples is a fucking iconic work of writing! a modern au, Bilbo ends up working as a tutor for two royal nephews, and falling in love with their Uncle while doing so
Homesick by @andhumanslovedstories is a Post-BOTFA au where Bilbo gets mysteriously ill, Thorin goes on a journey to bring Bilbo back to the Shire and things get a little complicated along the way
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes by @diemarysues is a wonderful cinderella au where Bilbo magically turns into a dwarf, meets Thorin, and falls in love <333
and last one for flavor is Heartbeat of the Mountain by chrystal896 an au where no one died in BOTFA but Bilbo left anyway, years later he realizes there's no future for him in the shire anymore, so he leaves for Erebor, with a young Frodo in tow
there's loads more than just these, but these were the first classic ones i could remember off the top of my head :))
