I've finally read Sansûkh (and Tasâlalkhud) and it made me lose my fucking mind it's one of the best things I've ever read wtf

I cried SO MUCH ?? And it was so beautiful ??? And I wasn't left feeling hollow and depressed at the end ! Like the characters actually heal and get better and become at peace and happy, despite the grueling emotional (and physical) pain they've been through !

Thorin arriving in the Halls... Dís grieving... Arwen and Bilbo bonding over their Kings... Moria... Dáin's end... GODDAMN !

Dwarves, man.

The thing is, when I say "I'm re-reading Sansûkh" that actually means "I'm taking a deep-dive", and that includes properly fleshing out the Khuzdul dictionary I made out of all of Dets' translation notes.

And you know what?

There's the word "abbad", and it means: "I am here".

But it also? Means "Mountain." You can find that in "Thaforabbad", the Khuzdul word for the Grey Mountains, "Lavamabbad", the White Mountains, and also in "Inzêgid-’abbad", Bofur's dark-name which means "Ringing Mountain".

And I just love that so much??? That is so good, I never noticed it before! It has this same sort of vibe to it as the self-descriptors of many population groups that when translated just mean "people". It makes the language feel so connected to the people it belongs to.

Oh, there's a mountain? Of course that means the place where I'll be.

It's just such a great story. It took me over a month to read because I needed time to ingest the amazing writing and frankly fantastic world build. It did an amazing job to work with and build on the existing cannon and lore while being it's own absolute masterpiece. After I finished it, I sobbed for nearly an hour and had a near 3 week reading slump and I don't regret it for a second.

This fic is so good, it took me a month to finish and it put me in a two and a half week reading slump and I regret nothing except that I hadn't read it sooner
