Beginning Thoughts of the Fall Anime Season 2017 . . .
Welp, fall is here, and as usual, it is time for me to do my annual first impressions of the season’s anime titles.  My gods if you thought the amount of shows I checked out last season was a lot, this season’s amount is insane.  This season, so far, I have checked out 22 shows thus far and plan for at least 7 more to pick up.  Insane, right?  So how do they stack up so far?   Let’s see.  Also, please keep in mind, that these are solely based off of the first one or two episodes, and are purely my opinion, so if my opinion is different than yours, then I’d love to here it.   Also, I will try to remain as spoiler free as possible.
Netojuu no Susume:  Studio Signal.MD
Tumblr media
Dropped.  Alright, so I feel like I have to mention this.   I’m a serious gamer.  More specifically, I love me some MMOs.  How much you ask?   Well, so much so that I actually met my husband on World of Warcraft.  Insane right?  I mean my god you do not want to see our /played time on that game.  So, needless to say, I am a bit critical on gaming anime because of this, because I know what it’s like.   This anime was just. . . . cringey.  I found myself sighing every chance I got and by the 20 minute mark, completely turning it off.  Everything about the first episode was just  . . . bad.  There’s really just no redeeming qualities. . . well, one line said by the Guild Master which was something along the lines of “you have no idea what her irl gender is.”  I laughed.  It’s accurate.  85% of female toons you see on wow are actually guys. Anyways, moving on.
Evil or Live:  Haoliners Animation
Tumblr media
Dropped.  Mmmm  I had such high hopes.  After reading the summary, I will admit, I was hyped for this show.  On Paper, this show sounds wonderful.  I thought it was going to be some horror psychological thriller that at the end of it left you questioning the very meaning of the world around you or something.  Instead, what happened?   I . . .don’t even know.  The series starts off with massive amounts of Live Action, which, while being completely unexpected, I didn’t mind so much; the series became an instant drop for me when the MC and Co were clearly showing a break from reality and needed actual mental help, was beaten instead.   It wasn’t “horror” or “edgy” it was just poor writing.  Needless to say, I have dropped it.
Just Because!: Studio Pine Jam
Tumblr media
Dropped.  For no other reason that fuck it’s boring.  I fell asleep watching it not once, but twice.  It was that boring.  This series proves that even the prettiest of shows can bore you to death.
Omiai Aite wa Oshiego Tsuyoki na, Mondaiji:  Studio Seven
Tumblr media
Porn.  With Plot.  Alright, so this is an actual hentai series.  Not like Soft-Core either like Hajimete no Gal was last season.  This is an actual hentai series, and if you could believe it, it’s actually more plot focused and semi-interesting than 95% of hentai out there.. . . Well, as interesting as a hentai series about a female teacher and a student banging and “engaged” can be.  Don’t get me wrong here, it’s totally trash, but hey, each episode is only four minutes, so I’m going to keep watching this trash just a bit longer to see where it goes.
Sengoku Night Blood:  Typhoon Graphics
Tumblr media
Mmmm Still waiting for the day with they make a good anime based off of an Otome Game.  Alright, so here’s the story.  Girl gets sent back into another world and gains a harem.  A vampire harem.  That’s it.  I’ve saved you the trouble of checking this series out.  You’re welcome.
Urahara:  Studios Emt^2 and Shirogumi
Tumblr media
Dropped.  Instant Drop.  Jesus Christ that animation is fucking trash.  You have two studios working on this series, and the animation still looks that garbagey?!?!  How?!?!?!  I can’t even with this. . . Ugh, nope, moving on.
Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara:  Creators in Pack
Tumblr media
Yet another series that will probably be dropped halfway through.  Honestly, there’s just nothing that really happens in this series, and I know it’s really hard for anything to happen in a four minute long series, but literally nothing happens.   Wife comes home.  Husband makes her drink.  Wife gets tipsy.  Thank you husband.  I mean the main reason why I’m going to be sticking it out just a bit longer is to keep getting cocktail recipes haha.
Imouto Sae Ireba Ii:  Sliver Link Studios
Tumblr media
Will probably be dropped.  Is it just me or is this series like Silver Link’s answer to A-1′s EroManga Sensei?  Honestly, this show is meh at best so far.  The art is nothing too great, and the story screams EroManga, and since I wasn’t a fan, I really don’t see myself watching more than three episodes.
Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-Bitch na Ken:  Studio Diomedea
Tumblr media
I started watching it with hopes of it doing two things.  One, fill the hole in my heart that was left when Hajimete no Gal ended; and two, explain what the hell a Sho-Bitch is.  In all honestly though, this show is probably going to be dropped.  While the art is generic, the characters are bland and too common; I also the comedy too forced at time and repeatable.  Yes, we understand main waifu really just wants to figure out what Haruka likes, and obviously misinterprets everything, but does that really have to be the joke every single time?
Inuyashiki:  Studio MAPPA
Tumblr media
Ah, the latest from Studio MAPPA.  I have one question:  MAPPA, what the fuck?  Let me clarify.  The opening few minutes of the first episode made me feel.  Fuck, I almost started crying.  It was depressing and yet the story was just relatable and beautiful all at the same time.  I was feeling feels I didn’t want to feel.  It really kept true to the Drama tag, which I love.  I’m a sucker for some hardcore drama filled series.  Then. . . .it got weird.  Some weird like mecha space alien thing weird.  So, again, MAPPA, what the fuck?  Don’t get me wrong here.  I will be continuing to watch this solely because despite the series taking that weird turn, in no way did that make the actual tone any less enjoyable.  Plus, the art style is so unique to the show, I’m curious as to where it can go from here.
Mahoutsukai no Yome:  Wit Studio
Tumblr media
Alright, I’m a fan.  This has to be a contender for Anime of the Season, and we aren’t even three episodes into it yet.  It’s wonderful, and not only one of my favorites from this season so far, but my favorite thing Wit Studio has ever done, (and yes, that just brought me a ton of hate from SnK fans haha).   I can see and agree with the hype this series has had.   Honestly, check it out.  It’s good  and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
Blend S:  A-1 Pictures
Tumblr media
I found my Moe-Blob for the season, and I’m so happy.  I actually really like this series so far.  It was adorable, and literally just what I want in my seasonal moe-blob.  It’s nothing too driven plot wise, and definitely won’t be anime of the season or anything like that; it’s literally just Cute Girls waitressing in this cute cafe.  Regardless, I’m definitely going to continue to watch it for a bit longer at least.
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou:  Studio White Fox
Tumblr media
Keep your eye on this one this season.  It’s probably going to be the Dark Horse of this season.  In all honestly, I became instantly hooked watching the first episode.  The tone at the start was so eerie and grim that I found myself getting literal goosebumps.   Maybe it’s the high I’m on after the Made in Abyss ending, or just wanting to find something to fill the void that series has left me with, but I’m getting serious MiA vibes.  I’m hoping this series is even half as good as MiA was.  Also, I’m a major fan already of how unique the art is for this show.
Ousama Game The Animation:  Studio Seven
Tumblr media
I’m biased.  Period.  I will be watching this show no matter how terrible it could ever get solely because my favorite Seiyuu is the lead.  Mamoru is a God, and I will watch it religiously every week.  That being said, I can tell you that this show is edgy as fuck, and with it being one of two survival game anime out right now this season, this one is definitely the weaker, edgier of the two.  It is a pretty cool concept though, and I’m already a fan of the survival game concept, that I don’t mind watching this one until the end.  I would also like to warn that this one is definitely gory so if you don’t like that than this isn’t for you.
Konohana Kitan:  Studio Lerche
Tumblr media
CUTE LITTLE FOX GIRLS.  I REPEAT, CUTE LITTLE FOX GIRLS.  Having read the summary for the series prior, and seeing both the Seinen and Shoujo Ai tag on it and that it would be done by Lerche, it became an instant check out at least, and I’m glad I did.  This series is the calming pallet cleanser.  It’s the show where you can turn off your mind and just watch the cuteness.  Plus, did I mention cute little fox girls?  What more do you need?
Black Clover:  Studio Pierrot
Tumblr media
Alright, I’m split in two for this.  Part of me wants me to look at this show for what it is:  a stereotypical shounen series, with decent animation, predictable plot and bad voice acting, if you saw the first episode you’d know what I’m talking about.   This show screams Naruto, Fairy Tail and Bleach rip off; and hell, since I hate Naruto, never got into Bleach, and am still VERY pissed at Fairy Tail, combining the three into one really just makes me both cringe and glare at the screen.   Evil Glare.  A glare that if I could, would totally shoot lasers out and everything.  I mean hell, it’s even done by the same studio as Naruto.  Regardless, the tons and tons of shounen I’ve seen makes me just feel like this is repeating it all.   That’s one part of me.  The other part of me enjoys this show, solely for the fact that my husband LOVES the Black Clover manga, so watching it with him makes me at least want to give it a chance.   I do however doubt it will be as big as people hype it up to be, and if it does get big it will be nowhere near as good quality wise as a lot of other shounens, and will take a lot for me to become a fan.
Juuni Taisen:  Graphinica
Tumblr media
Without a doubt, my favorite from this season.  I’m hooked.  This series has it all:  unique character designs, well executed art, and a killer story line, (pun intended).  Mmmmm this story is wonderful.  It hooks you from the start, which is to be expected since the original source is written by the same original writer for the Monogatari Series.  There’s plot twists and betrayals and just epicness.  It also has one of the best openings and closings of the season.  Side Note:  THE PSYCHOTIC LITTLE USAGI BOY IS BEST BOY AND I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE, AND IF HE DOESN’T WIN I WILL RIOT.
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru:  Washio Sumi no Shou:  Studio Gokumi
Tumblr media
When I first saw that Yuki Yuno was getting another season, I was fucking thrilled.  Yuki Yuno was a magical girl series that I fell in love with not only because of the Madoka Magica vibes it had, but because of the beautiful art and animation and vibrant colors it used.  It’s visually stunning.  So, how is the prequel turning out?  Still just as stunning.  In all honestly, I’m going to love this series provided it stays true to the themes and tones of the first season, and if the opening episodes are anything to say about the rest of the series, then I know it will.  Plus, who isn’t up for Magical Girls this season?
Osomatsu-san 2nd Season:  Studio Pierrot
Tumblr media
I actually genuinely missed this show.  My gods this show is a gift.  This has to be one of the underapprieciated comedy gems to come out in the recent years, and it fills me with joy knowing that it still shines just like the first season did.  I enjoy watching the episodic skits of everyone’s favorite sextuplets.  Seriously, why have you not started this show?
Shokugeki no Soma:  J.C.Staff
Tumblr media
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I’VE WAITED TO SEE MY SON KUGA ANIMATED?!!??!  TOO LONG.  This is hands down the best season of Food Wars yet, and we are barely a couple episodes into it.   I love the pacing of this season, and having being a manga reader, I can confirm for you that it’s completely accurate with the manga thus far.  J.C Staff is clearly showing that they still care about Food Wars and aren’t rushing with the season.  Also, thank the gods for the 24 episode season.  THAT’S MORE EPISODES OF MY PRECIOUS KUGA.
3-Gatsu no Lion 2nd Season:  Studio Shaft
Tumblr media
I cried.  I fucking cried.  Hard.  My god I missed this series.  Everything about the first episode was fantastic.  The music and animation were spot on, but of course nothing out of the ordinary for the phenomenal Studio Shaft, but what did I love most you ask?  Character Development.  MY FUCKING GOD.  Compare Rei to the start of Season one, and you’d never think it’s the same person.  I can’t stress that enough.  If this first episode is a sign on how amazing the rest of this season is going to be then I’m beyond fucking happy.  This is the series I’ve been waiting for since the start of the year.
Gintama.  Porori-hen:  Bandai Namco Pictures
Tumblr media
Has there ever been like a bad season of Gintama?   Like Ever?  All this season has proved to me is: one, life is boring and dull without Gintama.  Two, Gintama is the king of comedy series.  Three, Gintama is without a doubt one of the greatest series of all time.   This season is hilarious and easily makes me burst out laughing from start to finish.  Thank you Gintama, I’ve truly missed you.
Ballroom e Youkoso:  Production I.G.
Tumblr media
How is the second half of the season you ask?  *Insert Pouting Face Here*  Fuck you, Chi-chan.  Worst Girl 2017.  THERE I SAID IT.  YEAH, I SAID IT.  WHAT YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?  #BRINGBACKBESTGIRL2017  Like, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Tartara has a partner now, but like seriously why her? -.-  Why couldn’t Mako just be his partner forever and they could live happily ever after?
So, yeah, those are my thoughts so far on the Fall Anime 2017 season.   Let me know yours, and if there is anything I’m not watching, and should be, then please tell me!  I love recommendations, and I already know of a few that I need to pick up. . . .

3月のライオン/ 3-Gatsu no Lion : Personal Review
!! SPOILER ALERT !!
Two weeks ago, a musical friend of mine, Bwamb, introduced me to this anime title 3月のライオン (San-gatsu no lion), which is an anime based on a manga series by Chica Umino. For those who know me for quite a long time must have known that it is not easy to make me finish a series, because I have some sort of weird preferences and pretty moody in terms of watching things. However, I managed to finish the first season of this series yesterday.
Tumblr media
I'd say, it's a good show. It really is. Maybe at first, some people might find it boring because there isn't particularly any dramatic issues like those occurred in shounen fighting series. However, here is some of the reason why I think this is a very good slice of life anime series.
1. A very nice art & cute characters It has a water-color-vibes anime art that looks manga-ish, which has a very warm and homey tone for me. I feel happy just by seeing the art in a glance. Nothing extravagant, but it could bring joy in such simplicity, which is a plus point for me personally. Not to further mentioned how cute all of them are. I'm totally in love with the art.
Tumblr media
and cats. I'm weak towards cat. Those cats remind me of those cats Rexa owned (haha. literally Rexa's cats are my virtual pet cats now). I'm instantly in love with those cats in 3-gatsu. Especially to see their inner thoughts which depicted on the series as well.
Tumblr media
2. A realistic non-dramatic day-to-day resolution I'm pretty impressed with mini plot-twist in many resolution scenes. One of the example is when Rei met an old shogi player, Matsunaga (Episode 09), which is a shogi player who planned to retire after being a professional shogi player for forty years.
Tumblr media
Usually, most of anime will give a resolution like: "I won't stop playing shogi because I love shogi so much and it's my life", but then, the thing that Matsunaga eventually said was: "I don't want to retire from shogi because if I do, my wife will brag me to do house chores and my daughter will tell me to take care of her kid" Maybe it's weird, but I'm amazed. Not all anime/ manga story line will give out such a realistic resolution. Because it's like, I'm not saying that Matsunaga dislike shogi, but I would imagine, for someone who had been into shogi for more than 40 years, and being 'just that ordinary pro', to say that he truly love or hate shogi is not an easy thing. Just like a husband and a wife who had been married for decades, that kind of lovey-dovey feelings has transformed into something differ.
There are a lot more scene where I found it's amusingly realistic, but I couldn't mentioned all of them here, or else it will be a very lengthy and chatty post.
3. It is more than just Shogi
At first, I thought it would be some sort of slice of life series, like those sports or those series in similar genre, but it's not. It's more than about Shogi. Even though the main character, Rei's life is centered in shogi, but all things that he felt, he faced, he experienced, are the things I could relate on day-to-day basis of my life in terms of my musical journey.
The feelings that Rei felt might not be those dramatic things, but I think that's some sort of day-to-day fight /dilemma within our inner self, no matter what kind of profession we are taking, especially if it's non-office work related jobs.
I couldn't share in details how I found similarity between what I felt and Rei felt in terms of music (shogi, for Rei), because it's quite a personal stuffs, but I could relate to most of stuffs there.
Tumblr media
4. Well made characters
I personally think that all of the characters in 3-gatsu no lion are very interesting. The writer has wrote a very nice characteristic/ character development for each character. All of them are not OP (like many others series always somewhat somehow depicted their characters like they are a very perfect being), but it's pretty much human.
I personally dislike non-realistic series if it's related to slice of life genre (especially those that doesn't involved magical stuffs), and 3-gatsu no lion has successfully attracted me.
In terms of characters, I could relate to almost all issues with almost all characters on the series: bit here and bit there, but maybe the character that I could see myself into other than the main character, it's Akari. Maybe because I'm a big sis myself, so there are quite a lot of aspects or thoughts that I could relate from her.
On a side note, I really like how Akari appreciate privacy and never being such a busy-body towards Rei even though she cares for her a lot. It reminds me on how I reacted with most of dear friends surround me. I care for them, but I never want to cross the border of personal space with them. I appreciate their privacy and I believe if they would like to share it with me, they will share it with me even though I didn't ask for it.
Just like how Akari didn't actually ask Rei details about his past or why he cried or why he acted, but she believed there must be a reason behind it. I really like that side of her beside of her caring nature.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
I think some people might found this series is quite boring if they are more into those dramatical stories with 'cool' heroic resolutions. However, for those who loves a relatable/ more realistic, simplistic, relaxing slice of life series will definitely love this series.
In addition, it has a nice music as accompaniments throughout the series and it perfected things out. I am going to continue to watch season 2 and thank you Bwamb for recommending me this series. It's a nice one.
I think that's all I'm going to write this time (I might write a veryyyyyyy long post if I didn't stop). In the meantime, please take care and have a great weekend ahead. Stay healthy and be happy always.
With love Ruru

2020 T.V Show Tracker
T.V. Shows
The Witcher
Tumblr media
Started 2019 finished 2020. Click here for my thoughts.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Tumblr media
Completed - I really enjoyed the episode with Pimento, that episode was just hilarious. I think that was one of my favourite episodes this season.
Self Made
Tumblr media
It was very a enjoyable mini-series. Sarah's story is so fascinating and inspirational precisely because of how many hardships she had to deal with throughout her life. I enjoyed the show and learning more about Madam CJ Walker.
Interior Design Masters
Tumblr media
This was a really fun show. I didn’t agree with everything that the judges said, but I definitely had fun watching the contestants renovate commercial and residential places. My favourite episode was when they worked on the stores (not restaurants). I really loved those transformations.
The Big Flower Fight
Tumblr media
It was such a fun show! I really enjoyed watching how the contestants used plants to create beautiful and interesting topiaries/sculptures. I loved most of the contestants and was always looking forward to their take on each challenge!
Space Force
Tumblr media
It was a fun show! Enjoyed watching it with my sister.  :)
Hannibal
Tumblr media
Re-visiting this show from the one or two episodes I watched back when I was in grade 12 and one of my teachers was promoting this show because her friend was an extra in it. But, I really am intrigued by the concept, the way the show is filmed is just so gorgeous for such a gory show and the plot is very fascinating. Anytime Hannibal feeds anyone I get a bit antsy. But Will Graham is just such an interesting character. I have high expectations of the show!
Update: Finished s1 and LOVED it! As I was binging s2 I started to get nightmares and also the plot started to move forward at a snail’s pace (imo) so I will put this show on hold for now.
The Umbrella Academy s2
Tumblr media
So I really enjoyed this season of Umbrella Academy because I got to see more of Five kicking ass as a teenager, the character growth of BOTH Diego and Luther, seeing the entire family getting closer to Vanya and the general action sequences of the show. I enjoyed the new characters as well - Lila and The Swedes. I admit my memory of season 1 of this show is somewhat vague, but I found that the ending of the season (its climax to be precise in episode 10) to be somewhat lackluster considering the build-up.
I really enjoyed was seeing Klaus, Allison and Vanya deal with their respective subplots and that scene in the barbershop with the three of them bonding really was a highlight of the season. Also when (spoiler alert) Ben finally ‘died’ and went to the afterlife that scene was so well executed and emotional and has got to be one of my favorite moments of the season. It was nice to see him helping Vanya out.
The Haunting of Bly Manor
Tumblr media
I loved this show! I grew to love these characters so much! I loved Hannah and Owen’s relationship so much.
The Haunting of Hill House
So, I read the book first and wanted to see what the hype was all about. I really enjoyed the little easter eggs to the book in the show, and that ONE SCENE with the ‘Bent-Neck lady’ gave me a nightmare... It was good, definitely an interesting take on the story.
Anime
The Disastrous Life of Saiki: Reawakened
Tumblr media
I love how the show constantly shows us that Saiki will tolerate anyone for the sweet sweet coffee jelly. I need more of this show!! Please give me more episodes @Netflix.
Haikyuu!
Tumblr media
I love it. I understand the hype now. I really enjoy how they show the lives of all the people in the show, the ‘extras’ on the team, the opponents and give us a glimpse into their lives and their stories. I finished season two and am looking forward to more! It’s honestly so hard to be rooting for just one person in this show and I love that.  Finished 2 seasons so far. Will get back into it eventually. I’m honestly jealous that I can’t play volleyball rn.
Mob Psycho 100
Tumblr media
This will probably take me a while to finish as I am planning to read it before watching it. It’s so so lovable. I love Mob and I would do anything to protect him. Also I really like Regen’s protectiveness and genuineness towards Shigeo. It’s just a great manga/anime. Finished season one. It is so addicting! I love Mob and Reigen so much! <3
Update: finished season two. Man watching this show makes my heart grow 5 x as big every time I watch it! It’s just so endearing, fun, comedic. I love how season two really just show’s Shigeo’s growth throughout the season. His speech to Shirazawa at the last episode and how it came full circle - loved it! I also was surprised by the red headed son (Ryu?) in the best way. I hope we see more of him in the next season. Can’t wait for more!
Fruits Basket season 2
Tumblr media
Can’t wait for more crying. 🙃 I am really looking forward to seeing Yuki’s character development and his relationship with Machi and Kakeru developing. Also looking forward to seeing Momiji growing and more moments between Kyo and Tohru.
Update: Love seeing Yuki’s arc in the anime format. Seeing him reach out to his brother, Hatsuharu and the student council peeps and grow is so rewarding to watch. Looking forward to more and more Kyorhu. One wish is that, I wish with this season we could see Momiiji change physically a bit more but I’m holding onto hope for that near the end of the season.
March Comes in like a Lion/ 3-gatsu no Lion
Tumblr media
It’s not my usual type of anime to watch as it is so slice-of-life, but in a weird way it really reminds me of My Roommate is a Cat except after I watch it I want to play chess or learn shogi. Of course, Rei has depression and a lot of issues he needs to work with, but the sisters are just so sweet and the moments that they show up to take care of him are so heartwarming. I love his self-proclaimed ‘best’ friend and rival - Nikaidou. I just really love how he’s drawn, his personality and when he shows up in the show it definitely perks me up. I really enjoy seeing him develop as a character and as a person. I am somewhat sympathetic to the plight of his foster sister but where I am in the show (finished s1) I absolutely loathe her. I really like seeing  how many people are around Rei and watching him tackle life and grow. Looking forward to watching s2!
The animation is very interesting. One thing that I am not sure if it is deliberate or not is how the characters’ facial expressions (mostly the way the mouth is in close-ups) are drawn to me seems very ambiguous to me - I can’t quite understand what emotion is being conveyed.
Update: Started s2 and man the bullying storyline with Hina is so sad.
Teasing Master Takagi-san
Tumblr media
DNF. Just started it randomly. It’s very cute.
The Great Pretender
Tumblr media
I started it cuz it was short and seemed like fun. It has darker undertones than I expected going into it. On the Singapore storyline.
Wotaku
This was very short and binge-able. I liked it, it’s fun for what it is.
Dramas
Never Twice
Tumblr media
So idk if I’ll actually keep up with this as it is a guilty pleasure atm. I just started it because I liked some of the tropes that the show had (found family, sweet male lead, baby being doted on etc.). I am enjoying the gifs of the show. The plot is very... boring and I do recognize that for the most part the female characters don’t have much intrinsic motivation or identity outside male characters...
05.2020 Update: DNF.
Crash Landing on You
Tumblr media
I am really enjoying it so far. I really like that both the female leads are just very powerful and interesting on their own. Really like how the found family trope is being used. The romance is cute (a bit much at times imo). I still can’t get over how Captain Ri heard her suicide tape and just went ‘oh we are fated to be together’. That was... an interesting interpretation of the tape...
Also the whole thing with her being in N. Korea is hilarious and really the drama asks the viewer to really suspend disbelief to enjoy the show but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Update: Completed. Enjoyed it overall. Wasn’t the best drama I’ve ever seen but REALLY loved the female leads in the show. Seo Dan and her family are just SO adorable. Can’t believe Gu Suengjoon was killed just as his relationship with Dan became so cute. One qualm is that this show does the whole near death thing WAY too many times with the main couple for my taste.
365: Repeat the Year
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting premise and it has Nam Jihyun who I love. Looking forward to more and hoping it will keep my attention. I can’t believe that by episode 10 that the serial killer was revealed. I mean, I’m still invested in the show but that definitely caught me off-guard.
Finished it! I am really glad that they reduced the total amount of episodes because I felt that the ending was well done - not too rushed, not too out there (for the show). It was a very good ending for the show! I recommend it to anyone interested in a sci-fi/thriller. Overall, it was a fun time! Very engaging and would appeal to anyone interested in thrillers. I do have ONE gripe about the show which is a spoiler but it did not prevent me from enjoying the show.
Love with Flaws/ People with Flaws
Tumblr media
Finished! I started it cuz of a random compilation I saw on Youtube with the show and the gifs of it here and there and it’s decent overall. I would say that out of the many kdramas I’ve seen in this genre, it does stand slightly apart from the rest because of how each character is portrayed. I feel like there were no overt archetypes for the characters and I especially liked how they portrayed characters relationships. I liked how the siblings’ relationships were portrayed, and I really ended up loving the female lead’s eldest brother. He’s just so sweet and kind and I love how he does his best to take care of their entire family. It was definitely sad to see at points knowing that Cha In Ha committed suicide, but his character in the show was just so well done and important! Also his boyfriend is literally so pure I love him. As usual Seulgi just makes me go  😍😍.
Nobody Knows 2020
Tumblr media
It’s really good - very dark and bizarre. The shady foundation’s motivations are a mystery to me, but that hotel owner is a very interesting character. I will get back to it when I can handle more pain.
Update few months later: The twists and the turns though. Wow. I love all the children and how (so far) they are all portrayed as victims of circumstance. They are so sweet and I appreciate how Eun Ho, Dong Ryong and Min Sung’s relationships progress throughout the show. I’m also enjoying the character development of Sun Woo (the teacher/heir to the foundation). It’s also nice to see Cha Young-Jin begin to slowly open up. I’m enjoying the show a lot so far and am very intrigued by Baek Sang Ho’s group.
Final update: FINISHED it! Really loved this drama a lot. I love how all the characters are written so lovingly with so much depth to them. I liked the way the plot unraveled, I liked how all the relationships developed in the story, I loved the way forgiveness and morality were discussed. It was a really good drama and I am missing it already!
Chicago Typewriter
Tumblr media
A re-watch. Man I love this drama. The three leads and their relationship is just adorable.
I hope that in Shin Yul’s world/afterlife or whatever they can be happy together. <3
Oh My Baby
Tumblr media
I started this out because I was extremely bored and saw a few gifs of the show. It seems promising. Don’t have super high expectations of the show tbh. I do like the main couple though! They are adorable, nervously awaiting how it will conclude.
Update: Skipped a couple of episodes (4?) and went to the end. It ended up alright, very open ending and somewhat realistic. I’m glad the main characters were able to put their relationship above their disappointment in being infertile.
Strangers from Hell/ Hell is Other People
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed it!! - If I were to recommend it to anyone I would recommend they go into it as blind as possible to enjoy it to the fullest.
So... I had no clue that this show was ONLY 10 episodes long, so imagine my surprise as the events that have been put to play begin to climax, I checked and was surprised that it wasn’t a 16 episode drama. Anyways, this drama had superb writing, directing, acting and fight scene choreography. Everything came together to really make this show have such a dark, creepy atmosphere that intensified as the episodes went on. I loved how the show portrayed how Yoon Joon Yoo/O’s mentality was tested to the breaking point. Tbh I thought he was slow in the beginning of the show (episode 1-2), but turned out that he did far better than his counterparts. I think that one thing that was a shame was they didn’t really show the strength of his relationship w his girlfriend too much before, and had they had more screen time as a couple I would have been even more invested in the story.
Mystic Pop-up Bar
Tumblr media
Loved it! This was a really enjoyable show. The pacing was good, the story was interesting and I liked watching the characters relationships develop. It was heartwarming and a fun watch! I enjoyed the focus on various people’s stories showcasing all sorts of relationships.
It’s Okay Not to be Okay/ Psycho But It’s Okay
Tumblr media
Put it on hold for now - watched up until episode 10-12ish.
Flower of Evil
Tumblr media
The best kdrama of 2020 so far? Possibly.  Love how it mixes being a thriller with the marital relationship aspect. One potential con is that it seems that the mystery aspect of the show for now seems fairly obvious but how the situations will be handled keeps me on the edge of my seat!! Also I totally did not expect such a strong marriage to be shown in a thriller drama! Also the way that Cha Ji Won is written is just chef’s kiss. I love how complex she is, how intelligent, kind, caring and so so good at putting things together. I love Hyun So’s family and I hope it ends with them staying together.
Update: Finished it! Not sure how I feel about the very last episode... but I can say I’m glad that Do Hae Su got some crumbs in terms of character development by the end. So glad she didn’t end up with Moo Jin and started a new life abroad. The amnesia plot was unnecessary imo, I would have rather seen more cute scenes of them together than angst in the last episode. But, it was interesting to see how the trial was revealed, and the Baek’s got way better than they deserved which is unfortunately realistic.
Lie after Lie
Tumblr media
Plot sounded way more interesting in the synopsis vs the execution. Mediocre plot which I thought was easy to see through.
Eighteen Again
sort of dnf? I made it to epi 14 or so and just finished it in my head and through gifs. It had so much potential which I think it squandered... but there were some genuinely heart warming scenes from the show which I really enjoyed. (Siwoo and his dad bonding, all the scenes showing the mc as the nicest dude).
I don’t want to be friends with you
I really enjoyed the show. I liked how it portrayed the mother-daughter relationship, the differences in how they were raised and how Li Jing Bu was able to get the love she so craved through her dream?/journey. I liked how the romance was handled, how she gained such meaningful relationships during the show and how important it was to her that her mom was happy.
The Good Detective (2020)
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed this show! It was really cool to see a show that critiques the corrupt systems they have in place and the unexpected consequences that it can have on people. I liked how it touched on themes of guilt, remorse, forgiveness and resilience. Also, it was interesting to see a guy who has all the money in the world choose to be a workaholic detective.

Anime I would Love to See Another Season Of
There is a few anime that I was sad to see go. For the record I am also a fan of their respective manga’s, in fact these series manga are still being produced. Here is a short list of Anime I would like to see another season of.
March Comes in Like a Lion (San Gatsu no Lion)
I have written about this series since it is one of my favorites, but it is also at the top of the list of the many series I would love to see another season of. There is a lot of content to use for animation purposes, the Manga series, about 13 volumes in Tank-o-ban to be exact, and the 2-season run covered to volume 9 chapter 89. There are more than 4 volumes available, and the manga is still in production. So, there is more than enough material for at least another 13-episode season if not another 24 episodes.
Here is a bit about the series from Wikipedia:
Tumblr media
The series is set in Tokyo, following the everyday life of a 17-year-old shōgi player, Rei (lit. "Zero"). Umino based the setting of March Comes in like a Lion on research she conducted herself, whereas she was already familiar with the setting for her earlier work, Honey and Clover.
Rei is a 17-year-old professional shōgi player who lives by himself. He is estranged from his family and has scarcely any friends. Among his acquaintances is a family which consists of a young woman—Akari Kawamoto—and her younger sisters—Hinata and Momo—who also keep several cats. As the story progresses, Rei deals with his maturing as a player and as a person, while developing his relationships with others, especially the Kawamoto sisters. -- Wikipedia.
Welcome to the Ballroom
I have also written about this series a couple of times. I love the teen angst, and the struggle of the main character to find something he wants to do with his life and a girl he wants to be with, and how he finds dance, and learns what he wants to do with his life. It’s kind of a nostalgic, and fun story with a bit of romance mixed in. If a second season were to happen; it would be in a couple years.
Here is a bit about the series from Wikipedia
Tumblr media
Third-year middle school student Tatara Fujita is a guy who has no plans for his future or dreams, but tries to find something he can pursue with his whole life. With him being bullied and extorted, he is saved from delinquents by a man named Kaname Sengoku, a motorcycle-riding dance instructor. Tatara is entered into the Ogasawara Dance Studio in which he is shown the ropes of the world of Competitive Ballroom Dancing. -- Wikipedia
Silver Spoon
A kid fails under the pressure applied by his father over his academic and professional future, so he enrolls in an agricultural school far away from home where he begins to find what it is he wants to be (both as an occupation, and as a man). Again, there is a bit of teen angst, a little romance, and a lot of education in food, and what farming is. After the anime concluded the story continues and there there were several volumes of the manga series. So, there is enough content to animate another season (or two for that matter).
Here is a bit about the series from Wikipedia
Tumblr media
After failing to pass the entrance examination for the high school he plans to attend, mild-mannered student Yuugo Hachiken moves away from his suburban lifestyle and enrolls at Ooezo Agricultural High School – often abbreviated as Ezonō (エゾノー, lit. "Ezo Agricultural") – in the countryside. His relationship with his family is strained at the start of the story, which influences his decision to attend a school far from home. He continues to worry about his future career over the course of the series. He soon finds himself slowly getting used to his new environment despite some initial struggles, and grows into an empathetic and compassionate individual as he struggles to understand the world of agriculture and how it affects the lives of his new friends. – Wikipedia
Conclusion
These were great anime that were well received. The animation style was great, and the stories were compelling, and as anime series I feel they deserve another season, and I hope it happens eventually.

I don't even know half of those
Well, at the top there’s basically the battle of the giants: Kobayashi-san from Kobayashi-san chi no Meidoragon vs. Koito Yuu from Yagate Kimi ni naru. I switch those two around fairly often, depending on daily mood. They’re actually fairly similar characters in fairly similar circumstances now that I think about it, and I identify a lot with them both.
But, yeah, they’re both at the top and nobody’s come really close to dethrone either from 1st or 2nd.
Next is Miyamoto Musashi from Vagabond. If you haven’t read Vagabond or don’t know who Musashi is, go read it right now (also read Musashi’s WP page, because although his exploits are exaggerated in the manga, that guy got up to a lot of shit while he was alive).
Next is Sakura Kyouko from PMMM, who really needs no introduction anymore (at least not if you’re a reader of this blog).
Next is Araragi Koyomi from the Monogatari Series (not Ore Monogatari).
Next are Hori Kyouko from Horimiya and Kazuki from 14-sai no koi. Two kind of similar romance manga I really like, and they’re both definitely my favorite characters in their respective stories. Their significant others are also a part of this list, a little further down.
Then we got Chito from Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. As the more serious and bookish of a two-character cast, I’m contractually obliged to favor her.
Then we got somebody who didn’t ever do anything wrong, ever: Akemi Homura. Everything true for Kyouko is also true for her.
Nitta Hina from Hinamatsuri. The most uninterested in the goings-on of her own story protagonist on this side of the Colorado river. (The earth is a globe, so I don’t need to specify which side of the Colorado river I’m talking about.) Also my current avatar.
Amakasu Hisone from Hisone to Maso-tan.
Senjougahara Hitagi from Monogatari. Araragi’s girlfriend, professional tsundere and his match in any pun-fest.
Nitta Yoshifumi. Hina’s adoptive father and on Harry Potter levels of “just going along with the flow”.
Kiriyama Rei from 3-gatsu no lion. Guy slowly coming out of depression over the course of multiple anime seasons/>100 manga chapters.
Watanabe Saki from Shinsekai yori. Will fuck you up. (The character and anime both.) A past avatar of mine.
Miyazawa Yukino from Kareshi Kanojou no Jijou. Will also fuck you up, at least if you threaten Arima.
Touji Souya from 3-gatsu no lion. Will fuck you up at shougi.
Miyamura Izumi and Tanaka Kanata from Horimiya and 14-sai no koi, respectively. Boy-/girlfriend of the other two above. Miyamura’s motto in life is probably ‘why smoke weed if this is my natural disposition anyways’.
Koiwai Yousuke and his adopted daughter Yotsuba from Yotsuba to!
Rimuru Tempest from Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken. Staple overpowered isekai protag, but the first lighthearted isekai that’s actually watchable and most of it comes down to the delivery of Rimuru’s internal monologue.
And last we have Sasaki Koujiro, Musashi’s rival from Vagabond.

Winter 2018 Final Impressions
I’m a month late, as usual (whoops!), but here’s my final thoughts on the animes I watched this past season!
The “reviews” will be in alphabetical order!
3-gatsu no Lion S2 - 9.0 / 10 (A)
This second season of 3-gatsu was great! It’s just… a really great drama show about fighting depression (& a bunch of other character storylines)!
First off... THE BULLYING ARC WAS REALLY GOOD
extremely complicated, emotionally complex… this arc brings all sorts of emotions & angles into the forefront
multiple perspectives too: Hina’s, Rei’s, the bullied girl’s, the bully’s, the teachers’, and Akari too!
The art style can pull off both thick-outlined / bright colored style and watercolor-esque style incredibly well
it really is beautiful how it can visually portray both light-hearted and emotionally intense scenes
This season continues to show how good it is at character development for characters both main & supporting!
We get to see Rei moving through the ranks as a shogi player
and also moving through the ranks of conquering his depression! He’s improved more than ever before!
We get to learn about the white-haired master player (Souya); I liked how he has his own quicks and challenges he has in his daily life
Along with the other head shogi guy (Yanagihara)! (& how he shoulders his legacy for his friends)
Even the last episode offered some perspective from the foster mom about Rei & her kids
this show is just… really good at making normally-hated characters sympathetic, hot damn
Aside from bullying arc, this season also showed Hina preparing for the transition to high school
The finale episode was nice and sweet, with Hina saying goodbye to Takahashi and even getting a haircut!
This continues to be one of the best drama anime in recent years! Not to mention SHAFT’s best show since Madoka Magica :3
Cardfight!! Vanguard G: Z - 7.5 - 8.0 / 10 (C+)
And so ends the G series of Cardfight Vanguard… this final season I’ll say though is kind of a mixed bag
The plot had interesting ideas and moments at times, but the execution and pacing left a bit to be desired
though I will say it was definitely better than last season (CFV G NEXT)
This season didn’t waste any time getting to the main plot, as Chrono has to face off against a Diffrider right away
the diffrider stuff is continued from last season, but for the most part, it’s a new plot kicking off!
The rollout of all the new Diffrider Apostles (& them showing their strength) definitely made them look like powerful foes
not to mention the Zeroth Dragons, which were also shown to be powerful and very risky to use
Also knowing that anyone in the main cast could end up being The Vessel added some intrigue as well
the reveal that Kazuma would be the vessel definitely was a well executed twist imo~
However the pacing in places felt a bit too fast for me… the Relics subplot felt like it wrapped up too quickly, for example
the final fight against Gyze also kinda felt rushed… Gyze didn’t even have any dying words after his defeat :/
As a final season specifically, I feel like it kinda pales in comparison to Stride Gate, unfortunately
The cast was also kinda hit and miss in terms of how well they were utilized in the plot
some of the apostles definitely had more screen time than others (gredora only got like… two episodes)
plus gastille (the supposed apostle leader) got beaten sooner than like 3 other ones???
some villains carry over from last season too, such as Noa (Chaos Breaker) and the red-head punk kid
I liked all the new villains this season, personality-wise! (Also Yukari Tamura in there is a plus)
also no Am and Luna this season, really…
the previously established OG cast were integrated fine, for the most part
including Aichi and Kai getting the kill against Chaos Breaker Dragon
but the final episodes kinda just shoe-horn in a bunch of cameos that just didn’t feel natural :/
it just felt like “OH SHIT, this is the last season actually! Quick, throw in a bunch of cameos!”
this also applies to G characters, which makes less utilized characters (like Am & Luna, as mentioned before) look out of place :(
Sure, I’m saying a bunch of negative stuff right now, but I REALLY LOVE THIS CAST… I JUST WANT THE BEST FOR THEM
It’s the main reason I love CFV G, after all~
This season was definitely an improvement over NEXT for sure! The plot was interesting, I just wish the conclusion was better
The final episode basically just felt like an OVA, really… aside from the last scene, it didn’t really feel like an epilogue at all
I guess it just bums me out bc the original series got a good epilogue episode, so I know they could do it here, too…
In any case, I’M GONNA MISS THIS CAST, BIG TIME ;A;
In any case, this was a decent season to end the G series with! Not the strongest, but not the weakest either.
I’m gonna look back on my time with CFV G fondly for sure, if for nothing else than the great ensemble cast :’)
It’s gonna be weird going back to the OG cast for sure… I arguably liked the G cast better than the OG one :’D
Osomatsu-san S2 - 8.0  / 10 (B)
The consensus among fans seems to be that this season wasn’t as good as the first season
As for me, I… probably agree with that (though I still enjoyed this season!)
As with most comedy anime, whether the jokes land is pretty subjective. I feel like I didn’t laugh as hard this season? IDK
There were more “seasonal/holiday”-based episodes this time around (i.e. summer, new year’s, etc.)
What stays the same though is that this show is at its best when featuring the main brothers themselves
Skits involving the side characters (like Iyami, Dayon, etc.) didn’t make me laugh much…
I will say though that I enjoyed the second half of the season more than the first half~
Enough about the negatives, let’s talk about this season’s memorable skits / episodes!
The premiere was really good, as it poked fun at the huge popularity the show unexpectedly got xD
plus a bunch of references that *aren’t* gonna get them removed from streaming sites this time!
Jyushimatsu getting an “apprentice” with a little kid was also pretty funny~
The Karamatsu taxi skit, the spooky inn, & all the characters being stuck on an island were also good skits!
Ep. 18 (Iyami, Alone in the Wind) was also a crowd favorite, since it brought the feels for a change :’)
The finale 2-parter pulled a bait-and-switch yet again!
Part 1 was actually pretty serious, but the actual finale just has them trying to break out of hell xD
OH YEAH, I still really like the live-action stuff they do during the ending sequences
the first half’s ED was my favorite (the stop-motion of the brothers riding in the car)
I don’t have much to say about comedies generally, but Osomatsu-san is still my favorite in recent years ^^
Even though this season didn’t hit as hard as S1, it still provided some fun laughs~
Pop Team Epic - 7.5 / 10 (C+)
What can I really say about this show? It kind of defies description ^^;
Ok, yeah, it’s a sketch comedy, but it’s a really… crazy and random sketch comedy
The jokes are hit and miss (and in my experience was a bit more… miss than hit)
I never really laughed out loud at this show either
but then again, the humor here is more “being confused at what’s going on, but going along with it anyway”
There’s also a lot of modern anime references, so you might not get those jokes if you don’t follow most recent anime
Each episode has a long skit in it, plus a bunch of bite-size skits
I personally preferred the short skits over the long ones
There were a couple song parodies which I enjoyed (including the Earth Wind & Fire parody)
Also, this series definitely benefits from having an English simuldub! Some skits I found funnier in English!
OH YEAH, the voice actors (in both languages) change every episode, with female and male VAs in each episode
that enhanced the enjoyability of the sketches too, since I liked hearing favorite VAs do silly dialogue and performances!
I wouldn’t say this ranks among my favorite anime comedies, but it’s definitely unlike any other I’ve seen! ^^;
Your mileage will *definitely* vary with this one, so give it a try and see if it’s for you!
The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome) - 8.5 - 9 / 10 (A-)
This was a very enjoyable fantasy drama show! Some people feel this show was overhyped, but I still thought it was really good!
I really liked the cast overall, especially Chise
She has really good character development throughout the show! She really becomes more strong and confident!
Seeing the fantastical world through her eyes was interesting as well!
Especially since those mystical elements were also responsible for her terrible childhood…
Elias was also an interesting guy… he and Chise have an interesting relationship together
Their relationship definitely has aspects that are unhealthy, but they do grow closer to each other by the end
If people can’t get past the whole premise of “him buying Chise to be his bride” though, I totally understand ^^;
They help each other learn too, which I liked to see
The supporting cast was also enjoyable! Not much to say about them individually though
The dragon keeper was nice and we got to learn about Elias’ origins through him
The dragons in general were great! Especially the old one that turned into a tree :’)
He gives Chise some good sage advice, even after death :’)
Angelica, Silky, and Stella (among others, like the other anti-hero duo) were good support characters too~
I liked Stella’s role of “normal girl who learns of the supernatural’s existence”
Cartaphilus was an… okay villain, I guess (though his methods were quite creepy indeed, which added some intrigue)
Some character designs are a bit questionable though… like who approved the vampire’s design? ^^;
Another large appeal of this was the world building of the fantastical elements!
I liked seeing all the different types of locales & supernatural creatures, both good and bad
As a low-fantasy show, this show does a Dang Good Job with the fantasy!
Chise learning more about herself and gaining confidence through these experiences were a highlight as well
I enjoyed each story arc as well, even though most of them were more explorative and introspective
This show can be dang beautiful sometimes, through both its art/animation and its stories (Thanks, Studio WIT!)
Some were better than others, but they all deliver either a heartwarming (or a dark) story
Some favorites of mine were the dragon-based ones, and the vampire loving the old man
The finale was good too! It’s unknown whether this conclusion is anime-original or not, but it was definitely a good S1 ending~
If you love low-fantasy shows, this is definitely one to check out!
Violet Evergarden - 8.5 - 9.0 / 10 (A-)
Best *new* anime (that I watched) of this past season, hands down~
Though to be fair, I still need to watch A Place Farther than the Universe… and Yuru Camp… and After the Rain…
Going into this season, this show was hyped and back and somehow… a lot of people were *disappointed* with this show?
I think it had to do with expecting a different show than what we got; as for me, I knew it’d be an episodic drama the whole time :P
But yes, this show has a (mostly) episodic plot with an overarching character arc. If that’s too slow for you, then you probably won’t like this show.
In any case, back to the positives! The first one being how good this show looks visually… as expected from KyoAni~
there’s so much detail in the backgrounds and the character elements (especially the lighting on objects like Violet’s metal hands)
this aspect is one thing *everyone* agrees on regardless, so… yeah, this show’s really pretty!
The main star (and focus) of this show was Violet herself… you can really see how she changes for the better from beginning to end
You get to see how “robot-like” she was at the start of the show, but she slowly learns about dealing with emotions of others… and herself
This character arc is definitely the “main” plot of the show, along with her coming to terms with Gilbert’s death and her war killings
The episodic plots were good in their own right, too!
Ranging from Violet’s start as a Memoir Doll to the different clients she works with, they all teach her something along the way
These sometimes focus on the side characters working at the Doll Agency too, so we get to learn more about them as well
The one that comes to mind first is Iris’ episode, where she (messily) reconnects with a former lover
Not all of them get a full episode in the spotlight, but they do get some focus scenes from time to time
Violet’s clientele episodes were the most memorable out of this lot IMO
ESPECIALLY EPISODE 10… that was the BIGGEST feels trip
I knew exactly how the episode was going to end, but I still teared up at that ending!
The finale was action packed, but also was a beautiful way to show how far Violet has come
I know some people’s issue with this show is that “it doesn’t know what show it wants to be” re: the action stuff, but I was fine with it personally
in any case, it was a pretty good book-end for Violet’s development, since she finally understands (a least a little) what “I love you” means :’)
I understand certain people’s gripes with this show, but this really is a great little drama show that *will* deliver the feels~
P.S. I also watched Fate/Extra: Last Encore this season. It hasn’t technically ended yet, so I can’t give final impressions on it right now. However, my current score for it is a 7.5/10 (C+).

Soooooo... the Crunchyroll Anime Awards are going to happen soon.
youtube
Oh yes, I can already hear and feel all the salt just like last year, when Yuri!!! on Ice won everything, even though it wasn’t all that great, at least that was the argument. This year I assume Boku no Hero Academia will take that place. Well, it is a public voting so of course it’s a popularity contest. Personally, I’m okay with Boku no Hero Academia, like it was an enjoyable show and I had lots of fun with it. It wasn’t as great to me as it was to many, though I enjoyed it a lot and with this one being most likely the one to win most of the categories I’m more okay with it than with Yuri!!! on Ice, though I actually was okay with that one too, but it was, to me personally, just not a very outstanding show for most part, but how about I give you my personal winners out of the Crunchyroll Nominees so you can tell me, how wrong I am:
Best OP: The Ancient Magus Bride (tbh, that’s the only one that I know out of these.^^’) Best ED: Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (or Houseki no Kuni that’s a close call) Best Movie: In this Corner of the World (though I have yet to watch Koe no Katachi so, that could change.) Best CGI: Houseki no Kuni (I mean, of course.) Best Score: Made in Abyss (If you don’t vote for this one, chances are high you haven’t listened to it yet.^^) Best Animation: Houseki no Kuni (though again, I haven’t seen Koe no Katachi and Dragon Maid is quite high up there as well for me.. KyoAni Fanboy, I know) Best Action: Boku no Hero Academia (out of all the nomination this show has, this is the one it deserves the most in my opinion) Best Drama: 3-gatsu no Lion (and I haven’t started season two yet..) Best Comedy: Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon(Well, tbh Little Witch Academia could win this one as well.) Best Slice of Life: Tsuki ga Kirei (I have yet to watch Girls Last Tour but I feel pretty good on my choice.) Best Continuing Series: 3-gatsu no Lion (yes I know, technically I haven’t started season two but season one was ongoing from 2016 into 2017 so..) Best Girl: Ochako Uraraka (Chise, Akko and Tsuyu also are fantastic but I got a lot of sympathy for Ochako from the get-go.) Best Boy: Rei Kiriyama (by far the best written charakter in the list. Fafnir is fun and the BnHA boys are also quite fun but Rei takes the spot easily.) Best Hero: Atsuko “Akko” Kagari (Yes, I’m sure Izuku will win this one and he’s allowed to. He is the most classic hero of them all and I’m okay with that, but Akko wins it for me.) Best Villain: Stain (I got to be honest here.. BnHA and Made in Abyss are the only shows out of this category that I’ve watched.) Best Manga: I’m not much of a reader so I haven read any of them.. pass on this one. Anime of the Year: Made in Abyss (Was without a doubt the best show of 2017 for me, though Houseki no Kuni, The Ancient Magus Bride and Little Witch Academia are not far behind.)

Fall Anime 2017
It’s that time of year again...school. With college, work, dance practice, etc., it’s been a struggle to keep up and finish all of the anime that I’ve been watching since summer. However, I’ve been able to successfully, yet reluctantly, finish shows like Hitorijime my Hero, Tsurezure Children, Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, etc. Sadly, other amazing shows such as Boku no Hero Academia and Gamers! (which managed to pleasantly surprise me) are about to end this week. :( But since October literally starts next week and I’m about a foot deep into the fall semester at school, I’m looking forward to what the FALL SEASON OF ANIME will bring, and potentially hinder me from being on top of my school work.
Here are the shows that I am planning on watching (WARNING: get ready for a long list...sorry lol):
- Shokugeki no Soma: San no Sara
Need I say more???
Tumblr media
- 3-gatsu no Lion 2
Really enjoyed the first season and I’m looking forward to how it continues. For anyone who hasn’t watched this yet...give it a chance. You won’t regret it.
Tumblr media
- Osomatsu-san 2
AHHHHH SHIIIIIIT MY FAV IDIOT BROTHERS ARE BACK!!!
Tumblr media
- Mahoutsukai no Yome
After watching the OVA episodes for this show, I have the urge to watch it as a full length show. (btw myanimelist had it listed as airing in the summer, but it should air in the fall)
Tumblr media
- Tsukipro The Animation
I have no excuse. I just like watching bishounen boys singing.
Tumblr media
- Code:Realize : Sousei no Himegimi
A reverse harem anime with a veteran voice cast...GIVE. ME.
Tumblr media
- Just Because!
Reading the premise gave me Tsuki ga Kirei (if you don't know what I’m talking about refer back to my spring anime list) vibes.
Tumblr media
- Dynamic Chord
Again, singing bishies.
Tumblr media
- Animegataris
I think its time to watch an anime about high school students forming an anime research club. Just. Yes.
Tumblr media
- Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte Kara
This is one of those anime that lasts only 5 min per episode but the premise seemed really adorable!
Tumblr media
- Black Clover
Ok watching this was a last minute decision, but after watching the PV and looking at the cast list, I have to check this out.
Tumblr media
Leftovers:
- Ballroom e Youkoso
I’m already hooked on the new opening. I pretty much caught up with the manga so I’m looking forward to how everything will be animated.
Tumblr media
Shows that have second seasons coming out but I haven't watched yet:
- Kekkai Sensen
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this show and I’ve wanted to watch it for awhile. I’ll get to it...once I watch the 1st season.
Tumblr media
- Himouto! Umaru-chan
This anime seems really adorable and I’ve also thought about watching this. Hopefully, I get to it soon... T^T
Tumblr media
Movies:
- Free! Take Your Marks
IT’S FREE. NUFF. SAID.
Tumblr media
- Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai
I never thought that they’d make a movie for this show. But lo and behold, it’s coming. When this show came out in 2014, I really enjoyed it. Watch it if you haven't yet!
Tumblr media
Holy Jesus this was a long list. If you’ve managed to get through this list, then kudos to you!
I highly doubt I will be able to keep up with everything that I listed, but I will try. I’m in my last year of my undergraduate program at my university and I have to write two very important 20-25 page papers for my two majors before December. RIP. Plus, I’m learning Japanese. It’s not easy but I’m really enjoying it. Even though I’m busier and more tired than ever, having time to relax and watch anime is really important to me. For those of you who are struggling in school at the moment, remember to take time to sit down and watch an episode of anime. It’s important to be diligent with your work, but it’s equally important to treat yourself and enjoy life. Good luck with school and thanks for reading!

This is how my anime folders look on my hard drive:
Tumblr media
Yay for the blatant yuri omg
The “to test” folder:
Tumblr media
Why is Haikyuu!! in both my anime folder and To Test? Eh.
So yeah, lol. I haven’t actually watched anything in a while - I got absorbed with Pokemon and Adventure Time again. But I started watching Boku no Hero Academia the other day, and there are so. many. flashbacks. But I like it. (It’s really hard for me to finish a lot of shows, I tend to have to take a break then go back to them, to keep my ADD brain satisfied with new stimuli and not bored.)

Hey! I was just wondering, what new anime this season are you interested in/excited about watching (either now or possibly later once they've finished airing)?
I thought I hadn’t really looked into this season very thoroughly, but surprisingly, I ended up putting ten series on this list. Other than maybe one or two though, I don’t think I’m particularly excited for most of them. That said, there are quite a few that I may be interested in checking out at some point (meaning: maybe after they’ve aired, in a year or two, or maybe never, haha).
To give an idea of my interest level for each series, I’ve given numbers for each of them:
1: marginal interest (I probably want to learn a bit more first)
2: maybe I’ll get to it someday (who knows)
3: may watch after it’s finished airing (maybe within a year or two)
4: likely to watch after it’s finished airing (maybe within a few months)
5: I’ll watch it every week while it airs
Of course, my interest level could change based on learning more about a series (or, honestly, seeing more pictures from it :P).
Before I begin though, I just want to say that often my reasons for wanting to watch something are pretty minimal (not sure what word is best to describe it). I suppose it’s more like if some really basic thing catches my interest, I decide that I might want to check it out later.
Love Live! Sunshine!! 2This one pretty much goes without saying, as my recent Tumblr posts show. I’m excited enough about this one that I actually look forward to it every single week. These days, I’d say that’s pretty rare for me.Interest Level: 5
Mahoutsukai no YomeI think the title sounds kind of cool, and I kind of like the look of some of the gif sets/pictures I’ve seen of it on Tumblr.Interest Level: 3
Shokugeki no Souma: San no SaraI liked the first season. From what I remember, I’d say it was the characterization and the food theme that appealed to me. I like food. Or watching people make and talk about it, I guess. I still need to watch the second season though.Interest Level: 3 (as long as I can watch the second season beforehand)
InuyashikiI think I haven’t been very interested in these darker kinds of series for a while, but if I’m ever in the mood, maybe I’ll give it a shot at some point.Interest Level: 2
Just Because!Your post from a few months ago brought it to my attention. I guess I’m mostly intrigued by the people involved (the ones who worked on Sakurasou, Yanagi Nagi), though I suppose I like the art style too. It also sounds like it might be a sort of high school coming-of-age type of story, and to be honest, I’m actually really into that sort of thing.Interest Level: 4
Net-juu no SusumeAnother one of your posts. Sounds like something a bit more relevant to my demographic, I suppose.Interest Level: 3.5
Himouto! Umaru-chan RI actually haven’t watched the first season. But I’ve liked Doga Kobo’s other recent moe/comedy series that I’ve seen (New Game!, Gabriel Dropout). This seems to be one of the more popular ones, so I have a feeling I might like it too. But I need to watch the first season first. Also, I heard that Anime Strike got the second season. So… I suppose that complicates things.Interest Level: 3 (as long as I can watch the first season beforehand; the first season is a 4, but Anime Strike bumped the second season down by 1 point)
3-gatsu no Lion 2Also another series I haven’t seen the first season of yet. But it also sounds kind of like something I might like (the sort of coming-of-age aspect again, I suppose).Interest Level: 3 (as long as I can watch the first season beforehand; if it wasn’t for the length of the series, the level would probably be 4)
Blend SI honestly know pretty much nothing about this. I just saw this picture set the other day and thought it looked amusing.Interest Level: 1
Pingu in the CityA Japanese studio doing their own Pingu? I’ve got to see this.Interest Level: 4/5 (since it’s a short, maybe I’ll be fine with watching it weekly, if I can find it)
I suppose that about sums it up.

Winter 2017 Anime Awards!
Tumblr media
(From the ones I actually watched.)
Tumblr media
Best Overall: 3-gatsu no Lion/ March Comes in like a Lion
Into the light.
With consistent quality during the second part despite a shift in focus, perfectly managed tone that never leads to excess sentimentality or overt levity, and a story that ebbs and flows with such grace that it melts metaphor and direct description like an impressionist painting, Chica Umino's March Comes in Like a Lion remains the top spot for two consecutive seasons for the simple reason that it tells a rich story of individuals and making meaning.
In the first part, it introduces shogi professional, sometimes student, and introvert Rei Kiriyama and the facets of his life, particularly his close ties with the Kawamoto siblings. At the beginning of Part 2, Rei hugs the youngest Kawamoto sibling, Momo, and says that he has personal and professional matters to deal. While he sees the Kawamoto family as comfort and healing, he understands that he can't come running to them each time. With a major tournament upcoming he stops visiting them and the narrative shifts to the lives of the Shogi players that he plays against. With their own dreams and regrets, he becomes an observer of their lives as he compares it against his own, not to pass judgement on his failings, but to see the possibilities there is to life and to recognize that in the end, there are no bad guys, just people driven by very different motivations and showing how they cope with the consequences of a lifetime of choices.
With another season later in the year and a two-part live action movie currently showing in Japan, the series deserves all the accolades it gets. And if you're ever in the market for something substantial, with a deep, beating heart, this is your anime.
Tumblr media
Best Drama: Youjo Senki, The Saga of Tanya the Evil
What is a god to an non-believer?
Tanya von Degurechaff is the fiercest, deadliest, and most cunning soldier of the Empire (Not-Germany) as they wage the first World War (Until it becomes muddled when they introduce a Panzerkampfwagen IV.). She's also under thirteen years old and is hated by God, or a god.
Why is that?
The god sees Tanya has such little faith in him and has therefore cursed her: Should she die a death that is not natural, she will be taken off the wheel of reincarnation and sent to hell.
But why a kid? And why so much hatred for an individual?
While these questions are answered to an extent, the most important thing to consider is that these driving forces are what sets up Tanya as she is placed in conflict for most of the war as she struggles to survive. She puts in as many legal means as possible to leave the war, only to have her end up on the front lines anyway, whether by her own fault, or by divine intervention.
As she leaves a trail of bodies, her actions reverberate throughout the war as everyone slowly pushes down into a black hole, no matter who is winning. And as with the nature of war, there are no heroes, only murderers.
Tumblr media
Best Comedy: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!
"This anime is like every insane D&D story I have ever heard." -henlp
The second season of Konosuba! continues the adventures of Satou Kazuma as he is pulled from the real world into a fantasy world where RPG game mechanics exist in reality. He's accompanied by a Goddess who drinks too much and wastes her skill points on party tricks, a Wizard who knows only one spell (and collapses after every use), and a Crusader who can tank, but cannot hit any living thing with her sword (not out of principle, she just can't hit at all). Also, that Crusader is a masochist.
"Insane and crazy" is the proper descriptor for the way the series is plotted, as comedic plot points are introduced and escalated versions of those plot points are put to use later on. The characters are made aware that they are in the mess they are in because of the solution that resolved a previous conflict made ample fuel for another. "It gets worse" is another descriptor as they are battered by bad luck and only somehow manage to escape as even their most competent moments are displays of excellence borne out of their utter stupidity. It's a show that's shameless enough to throw everything at a wall to make you laugh, and most of the time, what they throw in, sticks.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
The Lion falls in love with the Mouse.
Miss Kobayashi is a Systems Engineer who, after a night of drunken revelry, somehow saves the life of a dragon, Tohru. Still drunk, she invites the Dragon back to her apartment, and into her life.
Unlike Konosuba! which fills narrative space with ever increasing, crazy humor, Miss Kobayashi's strength is mixing in the fantastical elements with the mundane, to create the comedy or the heart-warming plots, something that Gabriel DropOut only marginally succeeded in doing.
All throughout are discussions on the comfort between partners and the lives of people from vastly different backgrounds. It's about love and growing into it, even though we've largely been on autopilot. It's about the surprise we get when we realize to what degree people can love us for.
Tumblr media
Best Cute Girl Anime: Demi-chan wa Kataritai, Interview with Monster Girls
Science, Folklore, and Free Hugs
Almost all Cute Girl Anime narratives occur within a casting closed system, that is, primary and secondary characters are all girls and they play off their antics onto each other and whatever conflict they find themselves in. So this is a very special case where the Primary female characters shine in their characterization with the aid of a Primary male character, Takahashi Tetsuo, Biology teacher, Demi-Human Researcher, and member of the pantheon of the "Greatest Teachers in Fiction".
So for the girls, we have Takanashi Hikari, vampire, Machi Kyouko, dullahan, Elsa, Kusakabi Yuki, a snow woman, and Satou Sakie, succubus and Math teacher.
The daily motions of these monster girls is already interesting enough, but a subtle beauty comes from the setting and the way the plot is crafted with a keen eye for science and human foibles.
The world-building is present but hardly emphasized, and shows how the world accommodates the Demi-Humans and their special needs. Vampires get blood packs subsidized by the government, Succubi get visits from Demi-Human agencies to check up on how well they're adjusting to their environment, and the rest are treated not so much because they're demi-humans, but how they are as people. Kusakabe Yuki, for instance, is seen as cold by a few of her peers, but never attribute her nature as a snow woman to be the cause.
The science part is interesting, because several chapters detail efforts by Takahashi trying to explain the physiology of the Demi-Humans, drawing on folklore for insight and the scientific method to explain "how" they function, without asking "why". In Magical Realism, whys have never been the point anyway.
And so we have a Cute Girl anime that stands above and beyond what is generally expected of the genre. By having the willingness to introduce other characters in the mix, we experience something a bit more different in how humor is constructed and how conflict is resolved. True to its efforts to ground itself through science, the warmth comes off even more genuine and realistic.
Tumblr media
Best Sci-Fi/ Fantasy: Little Witch Academia
Better than Harry Potter.
What started off as a crowd-funded film about a young girl aspring to become a great witch, has turned into a full-blown series as it should have from the start. It carries with it all the trademarks of Trigger: Stark and clean character design, slick animation, and a wild ride of a story. Whereas previous works were about killer clothes and literal shared experiences, this one is a straight-forward romp into the realm of fantasy.
Except, while the premise is straight-forward, the execution has all the majesty and scope of an epic tightly-knit inside the trappings of what is essentially a coming-of-age, high school story. Add a pinch of the ever classic industry versus magic trope, excellent characters and well-realized relationships, and you have something that only ever appears plain and overdone.
Tumblr media
Best Girl: Tsukinose Vignette April from Gabriel DropOut
No good or evil, only kawaii.
I have reached the conclusion that in the world of Gabriel DropOut, the one reason neither Heaven nor Hell have made any greater stride against the other is not because of balance, but rather because both are equally inept.
That being said, Tsukinose Vignette April, a demon from Hell, is the worst kind of inept but the also the best kind of character to be best girl: Kind, disciplined, being the one person responsible enough to go over to Gabriel's home to wake her up for school, scared of horror movies, and just... angelic. Compound her difficulty with being the only straight man in a comedy quartet gives her the patience of a saint.
Some people, like Gabriel, could never grasp the responsibility of being a divine being. For Vignette, she was just unlucky enough to not have been born to a role she's a natural in: that of a normal human being.
Tumblr media
Best OP: "Shadow and Truth" by ONE III NOTES from ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.
"It's never really what it seems."
In the latest of slice-of-life/ food/ mystery anime is ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept, where Otus tries to do his job as inspector in what is ostensibly a Fascist state that is under rumors of a coup.
Of course, the general goal of any good OP is to draw the viewer into the show and communicate what they'll come to expect from it. And for a show with such style and class it's masterful to pick a song that blends hip-hop and jazz as the vocalists rap about the hazy nature of truth as people play games with relationships and politics into each other.
The striking visuals complement the song nicely, with shots of the various characters shifting in and out of blur and limiting visuals to white, black, and one more color for every scene to evoke a unique feel for every single character and teasing the role they'll play in the show.
Tumblr media
Best ED: "Los! Los! Los!" by Aoi Yūki from Youjo Senki, Saga of Tanya the Evil
Bedenke, dass du sterben musst.
An ode to madness and bloodlust, Los! Los! Los! (German for "Come on! Come on! Come on!") is a war speech in song form with very simple visuals: Shots of Tanya's face in various states of anger/ madness, a battlefield, and a few illustrations by the Light Novel's artist, Neichiru. How and when they're shown is where the song melds and gains greater power.
The angry/ mad face and the battlefield are shown and interchange with each other to follow the beat of the song during the chorus, which are commands in German to attack, take cover, or stand in attention.
Neichiru's illustrations take over during the verses, which celebrates war, the joys of taking away life, and surrendering your own life to your country, which the song sees as a great achievement, good enough to reach heaven for by building dead bodies one atop another.
Listening to the full song is recommended , as it expands on the nihilism even further, calling for those who advocate peace as weaklings and calling for ceaseless violence and depravity akin more to Heaven rather than Hell.
For its dark and horrifying thesis (sung with the voice of a young girl), the song would not be out of place in a battlefield setting where you know there is no way out, so you might as well go and fight and relish every drop of blood spilled, whether your own, or your opponents.

So the dork got me into this kind of music pretty similar to some electronic things I used to listen to but a bit different somehow. Anyway it's perfect for studying so that's basically what i've been listening to for days lately. I set the spotify radio for an artist I like and listen to different tunes. Nice and chill and everything good. But there was a song haunting me. Cause the base was obviously sampled from some song I knew well but can't find the title. And tonight I realised that: the song was these days by nico. I've been listening to chelsea girl on loop for months while in high school. Singing in the shower. Dancing. Drawing in my sketchbook the lyrics. And yet it took me two days to name the most famous song of the whole album. Good job momo dog.
To be honest my mind is not working. On sunday (i guess it was sunday I'm not sure) i wanted to watch san gatsu no lion ep 14 from season 2 and end up watching ep 1 from season 2 without really noticing it. I had that deja vu feeling but not strong enough to quit the episode... (They have even changed the op some episodes ago...and I was like: yay cool they put the old op back I loved it).
The point is: I'm tired of studying and studying and studying and then my body crashes, I spend 4-5 days in severe pain and then I get back to studying. Cause honestly that's all I've experienced since labs were over. At least when i was forced to spend 10 hours at uni I was there talking with people and learning how to do lab stuff.
