Blanket Me in Snow (I’ll Still Be Warm With You)

I had this idea for a fic last year, but life got in the way and I never finished it. But the shift into winter has me feeling some kind of way, so this piece of fluffy goodness was resurrected from the pile of WIPs. I hope you enjoy ♡

Castiel had always been able to sense when it was about to snow. A slight shift in atmospheric pressure, a static pull at the invisible threads of his grace, and he knew a winter storm was on the horizon.

It had been one of his favorite feelings in the world—at least, before he knew that feelings could be more than just physical manifestations. But with the fall of the angels and the removal of his grace, Castiel had been discovering that feelings were a lot more complicated than that.

There had been the physical changes, of course. The hunger and fatigue. The aches and pains that would settle into his muscles and joints after a particularly rough hunt. And he really didn’t think he would ever get used to how many times a day he had to urinate.Outside of that, though, had been the onslaught of brand new emotions. Empathy and guilt. Sadness. Anger. He'd been able to put a name to those rather quickly. Other feelings had been a bit trickier to decipher. His feelings towards people—in particular, the ones that bubbled to the surface whenever he was around Dean Winchester—had left him both confused and overwhelmed.

All this newness had been proving to be exhausting, so he waited patiently for that first signs of something familiar as the weather began to turn. If nothing else made sense, he could at least look forward to something that did.

So, it's more than a little surprising when he wakes one late-November morning to find Sam in the war room pulling on a pair of snow boots and a giant parka.

“Sam? What's going on?”

“Snowed last night,” Sam says as he finishes lacing his boots and proceeds to wrap a bright, red scarf around his neck. "I'm just going out to shovel what I can off the driveway.”

“It snowed?” The lack of windows in the Bunker is an inconvenience, to say the least. But that's not what's distressing Castiel.

“I didn’t feel—” he stops himself, suddenly self-conscious. Perhaps sensing a change in weather patterns isn’t an innate human ability. Perhaps it’s just another one of those angelic conveniences that have left with his grace.

“Cas?” Sam stops to study him, confusion written on his face. “Oh, um,” Castiel clears his throat. “No, it’s nothing. I just—I didn't know it was supposed to snow.”

“Yeah, well apparently it's just getting started,” Sam continues, pulling on a pair of gloves as he heads towards the door. “Supposed to get another foot or two this evening. Dean was going to do a grocery run when I'm done, just in case we get snowed in. So, if you need anything, you might want to grab him before he heads out...”

The iron door closes behind Sam with a gentle thud, and Castiel is left alone, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.

1) Sam and Dean are fighting and one of them finds the bullet.

2) After Dean is gone, Sam has to return to the bunker. While there, he finds the bullet.

3) Sam’s son finds the bullet in a box of mementos in the trunk of the Impala.

Dean was so used to dying and coming back to life. That when he died for the final time in his younger brother's arms he didn't know if it was going to stick or even if the whole thing was real. Everything was so different now, the way heaven looked. The way he felt no crushing pain of having to constantly save the world from the evil that attacked it on a daily basis.

Dean felt a wave of calm and hopefulness. Dean wasn't worried anymore. He felt no pain, felt nothing of his age. He could feel his lungs expand and take in a large gulp of fresh air. He felt like he was twenty years younger.

All that was missing was his brother and his car. Something that would come soon in regards to Heaven's time. For now, he'd sit with a beer in hand and look out on the view of what heaven had become. Somewhere in Dean's body, it let him know that was finally able to relax. The pressure of the world was finally gone, and all he waited on now was his younger brother.

The Winchester would be together again, soon. That's all Dean Winchester really needed was his beer, junk food, his car, and his brother. The person that he could count on no matter what.

It’s been 2 years since I stumbled back onto this hellsite (affectionate) and I have reached another follower milestone! Can’t believe it’s 2023 and people are still choosing to follow me and my antics, but I’m so appreciative to all my followers for continuing with me on this journey.
