So I drew genin Sakura
I have no self control
Will I draw the others? Probably
Say what you want about genin Sakura, but girl had some style. That dress and trouser combo are instantly recognizable and iconic. And dare I say it, I think her genin look was better than her chunin one.
This genin Sakura is dealing with the frustration of being pretty much the only graduate of her class without an inherited kekai genkai, and then being paired with a teacher who's neglecting and ignoring her in favor of his other students with an op sharingan and a fox demon. Hard to feel exceptional when you're surrounded by all that, huh.
Yes I am calling Kakashi out. I love him, but he did Sakura dirty. And the fandom loves to shit on Sakura and call her useless, but she was literally given NOTHING. She was given nothing and had to actually work for her abilities.
And sure she can still have her little crush on Sasuke, that's fine. But she deserves a struggle/arc that doesn't revolve around that. Maybe her "love" for Sasuke is more about wanting to marry into a powerful clan, so she'd be less alone. Idk And this would result in her actually really relating to Lee, and being inspired by him to train hard so she too can kick people's teeth in.

Day 1000 and something of me fully believing that Sakura Haruno doesn’t deserve the hate she gets and deserved an arc just as much as her male teammates, don’t mind me.

Sakura’s Character Motivations
I want to talk about the obsession/crush/love Sakura has towards Sasuke, specifically why I think it garners as much hate as it does in comparison to the other characters. Yes, other characters, and not just female ones. There are plenty of characters motivated by men in the Naruto series(though not women, but that’s a-whole-nother post). Naruto wants to bring Sasuke back, Sasuke wants to kill Itachi, Hinata wants to be like Naruto, Gaara wants to be like Naruto, all of team Taka is motivated by Sasuke in some way, Shikamaru wanted to kill Hidan then to carry on Asuma’s legacy, Deidara wants to fight Orochimaru and Itachi, etc. The Naruto series is about the bonds between people, so, go figure, a lot of characters are motivated by the relationships they have/had. However, people within the fandom almost exclusively talk about how Sakura is motivated by Sasuke. I’m gonna try answering why.
Sexism
To be clear, I’m not actually accusing anyone of anything here. I see a lot of people (on Tumblr) accuse the people who hate Sakura/Hinata as simply being sexist. I don’t know these people’s experiences nor do I know what part of the internet they’re on, but my experience with the male side of the Naruto fandom is them being really into power-scaling. Yes, I’ve come across the occasional objectifying joke, but those are more of the exception than the rule some of these posts may lead you to believe. Of course women can be sexist too, even towards their own gender, but those cases are also the exception. That’s all to say that people’s sexism may be a factor, but it seems to be greatly magnified by certain parts of the fandom.
Now that I’ve checked off my tangent for this post, let’s get to my point.
I think people, primarily women, hate Sakura’s love for Sasuke as a response to past experiences with sexism and poorly written female characters. A lot of women already enter male-directed series with extremely low expectations for the female cast and it trains them to be on the lookout for red flags in the female character writing. So, when the heroine we’re supposed to root for is introduced with her position in the love triangle, followed by her being a vain brat(even if she promises herself to be better), and then it’s revealed she’s motivated by her crush on a boy, a lot of women roll their eyes and pull back. Yes, being motivated by your crush at twelve is realistic. Yes, a lot of male characters in this series are also motivated by men. But the issue is over saturation. When a male character is motivated by a man, it’s just another of the many motivations a male character can have. When a female character is motivated by a man, it is a rehash of a motivation already done to death that is associated with damsel in distress heroines.
Of course many female fans don’t care about Sakura’s subplot with Sasuke, they’re sick of female characters having the men in their lives be the most important part of their character.
Lack of Depth
Something else that makes Sakura’s relationship to Sasuke stand out as easy to hate is it’s noticeable shallowness. Let’s compare it to Sasuke and Naruto’s motivations for a second:
Sasuke’s brother killed their entire clan for seemingly no reason. Because of this, he swears to avenge and restore his clan. So, for the entire series Sasuke is either motivated by killing Itachi or carrying Itachi’s legacy with him(literally represented by Amaterasu). Throughout the series his motivation is given more depth, it changes with Sasuke, it carries him through twists and turns, it asks questions about humanity and society.
Naruto grew up in social isolation that caused him to resent his home village while also craving its attention. Multiple characters are relevant to this part of his character, but Sasuke is the most important. Sasuke was one of the first people to openly acknowledge Naruto and that made him incredibly important to him. Because he’s so important, Naruto doesn’t want to see him get hurt or spiral, so Naruto does his best to prevent both. Throughout the series, this motivation stays mostly stagnant but it stays interesting because Naruto has to change his methods to both fit Sasuke’s changes in motivations and to juggle the other responsibilities he tries to take on. This relationship also asks most of the most thematically relevant questions of the series.
So, how does Sakura’s motivations hold up? What makes Sasuke so important to her? How do her motivations or methods change throughout the story? Uhhhhhh… To put it mildly, they don’t hold up(or at least for the most part, but I’ll get to that). We never get a canon reason for Sakura to “love” Sasuke. No, attraction is not love and it doesn’t explain away the lengths she goes for someone who clearly doesn’t reciprocate her feelings. No, Sasuke being a decent teammate isn’t a reason either. You don’t “fall in love” with every peer that’s decent towards you(are you trying to marry whoever pulls their weight in a group project???).
I’ve heard arguments that her lack of explicit reason is to symbolize “unconditional/pure love.” I’ve also heard that it’s following a Japanese cultural belief that love without reason is pure love. I don’t wanna shit on a whole culture but I also don’t trust SasuSaku fans that say that because 1. SasuSaku fans have lied about Japanese culture in the past to make their ship look better and 2. I have found this idea nowhere else. So I’m just gonna ignore that in this post, but feel free to site a source or explain this to me if I’m wrong.
Not giving reason behind Sakura’s “love” is just plain bad writing. It shoots her motivation in the foot before she goes to run a marathon. By not giving her motivation reason behind it, it limits the amount of people that will get invested in her character, it limits what can be done with her character, and it characterizes her as a shallow person motivated by shallow things. And I can’t imagine that Kishimoto was trying to make her a shallow character because that part of her character is never addressed in the story.
But maybe this isn’t a Sakura thing, maybe it’s a female character thing. After all, Naruto is one chapter away from being known for the bad writing of its female characters. Except the other female characters do have more complex motivations. Hinata wants to be like Naruto because she wants to overcome her inferiority complex caused by years of abuse by her family. Tsunade carries the legacy of her dead loved ones because of the expectations placed on her by the village and years of grief. Konan wants to achieve Yahiko’s dream of world peace because she grew up in an active war zone and watched him die and Nagato lose his mind trying to save her.
Sakura has no reason to have this simple of a relationship with Sasuke, especially when she’s supposed to marry him at the end.
Lack of Other Things Going On
Sakura is a main character, but she doesn’t have anything going on outside of her male teammates(at least in regards to motivations). Naruto wants to become Hokage, Sasuke wants to restore his clan, Sai is trying to understand his identity and others, Yamato is trying to build a life of his own. Sakura wants to become strong enough to not be a liability for her male teammates(a goal that is also debatable in how well it was achieved). Sure, Kakashi also doesn’t have much of anything going on outside of his teams(he wants to help Naruto achieve his goals and to move on from the tragedy of Team Minato). Except, both of his goals have depth while Sakura’s goal related to Sasuke doesn’t and her goal related to strength isn’t given enough time or attention to grow(ha ha, get it). If both, or even one with how low the bar is, did get the depth they deserve, I’m sure she’d be treated much more similarly to Kakashi by the fandom.
Failed Potential
If there was one way to describe Sakura’s character writing, it would be with “failed potential.” There’s a lot of things set up for Sakura’s character(genjutsu, Inner Sakura, her rivalry with Ino, getting bullied in the past, parallels to Kakashi’s teammate that killed herself and the Fifth Hokage who’s motivated by her grief, etc.), but most of it doesn’t get any proper pay off. Her motivations could be interesting, but they’re never given the chance to. Case and point: the Five Kage Summit arc.
Although I have a past of loathing the Five Kage Summit arc, I now find it to be one of the most interesting arcs of the Naruto series. In this arc Sakura is forced to face the fact that both Naruto and Sasuke are spirally and, despite her want to help, she hasn’t been able to do much of anything for them, just like she feared. On top of that, Sasuke now officially has a kill order on him, meaning that she now has to choose between her feelings for him and her loyalty to her village. And what makes it more interesting: she chooses the village! Since the bell test, the series has been building up the idea of prioritizing friends over orders and Kakashi was trying to ingrain that in his students and Sakura subverts that expectation! And it’s not because she’s insensitive, it’s because she’s empathetic. She asks the question that should’ve been asked a long time ago: “What right does she and Naruto have to prioritize Sasuke over everyone else?” She realizes that Sasuke has moved on to hurting people other than herself and Naruto and those people didn’t choose to take on that pain like them. In the Five Kage Summit arc almost all of team 7 fuck up in some major way, but it’s Naruto who’s being the selfish one in this regard. He’s choosing Sasuke’s life over justice for his victims and he’s making that decision without treating it with the nuance it deserves(yes he’s trying to stop the cycle of pain but he isn’t taking the need for justice into account). But Sakura is taking the needs of the victims into account and she’s trying to prevent Sasuke from hurting himself and others any more.
Then, when she tries to go through with it, she chokes. People shit on her for this, but it’s realistic. Since the Land of Waves arc, the series has been trying to say that shinobi aren’t tools, they’re human beings. And human beings can’t just shut off their feelings for others even when they think it’s the right thing to do.
Sakura is acting more in character than ever before and she hasn’t been this interesting since the Chunin Exams! This is the Sakura we could’ve have gotten! This is the Sakura Kishimoto is capable of writing!
This is why I and at least a few others have such mixed feelings towards Sakura. We like what we see when we get glimpses of what she could’ve been, but we know that’s not what she is.

If you ever think your least favourite ship is the worst, just remember that Naruhina had to…
mutilate and fridge a 14 year old girl.
Tumblr media
And then kill off a fan favourite character.

In order to pull off the ass pull of the century by making two characters with barley any page time of interactions end up together purely for the sake of fan service.

The shikasaku ship is superior simply because genius x genius in the friends to lovers way is just That good. and before you haters come at me saying sakura's not a genius, let me tell you that a) shut up b) sakura is a civilian born ninja and most people had no expectation from her. all she had was her unnatural chakra control. the fact that she came that far without any genetic advantages (hint: naruto with his huge chakra reserves and sasuke with his shortcut sharingan) is amazing on its own. and the fact that she surpassed her teacher who is a SENJU btw there's advantage there, is simply incredible.
i was going to talk about shikasaku but it turn into a sakura post my bad

Happy Birthday, Kakashi! No matter what universe you're in, you'll always be the best dad. <3
ᓚᘏᗢ    ᓚᘏᗢ    ᓚᘏᗢ
“Ah,” Kakashi said over his shoulder as he stood over the stove.  “I was wondering when my little intruder would emerge.”
Sakura eyed the bacon crackling in the frying pan.  “You thought someone broke into your house and your weapon of defense was to serve them a home cooked breakfast?”
“Are you questioning my methods?”
“Not if it means I won’t get to eat any of this.”
“Then help yourself to some coffee, friend.”
Sakura shuffled over to the coffee pot, twisting her wet hair into a loose knot.  She opened the cupboard above the sink and considered the collection of mugs.  Eventually, she fished out one tucked away in the back.  She set it down on the counter and made a beeline to the coffeepot.
Kakashi gave the cartoon dog flipping him off and saying “Fetch this” a sidelong glance.  “Bacon will be done in a minute.”
“Great.”  Sakura topped off Kakashi’s mug - a simple yellow one with the words “Go Sports Ball!” written in bold red letters - before heading to the refrigerator.
As she pulled out the cream, Tabi trotted past her and leapt onto the counter next to Kakashi, paying no mind to the steaming opportunity sitting tantalizingly close to the counter’s edge.  Instead, he planted himself by the stove and stared at the bacon sizzling in the frying pan.  Hypnotized.
Kakashi glanced at him.  With his free hand he took a crispy strip of bacon from the plate on the opposite side of the stove, took a bite, then offered Tabi what was left.  Just like that, the cat snapped out of his trance and chomped at it, narrowly missing Kakashi’s fingers.
“Wow,” Sakura said, standing by the open refrigerator door, stunned.  “That was so… civil.”
Kakashi prodded the bacon in the frying pan with his spatula and said sagely,  “All great relationships need a strong foundation.”
“Relationship?” Sakura said, popping open the carton and pouring cream into her mug until its contents turned from an inky black to warm, golden brown.  “When did that happen?”
“About three weeks after Sasuke left for college.  Lives were at stake.”
“Bacon, huh?”  Sakura thought about Ino and imagined her presenting her library crush with a platter teeming with bacon.  “Usually they say trust and communication are the pillars upon which healthy, lasting relationships are built.”
“You can’t buy trust and communication at the grocery store.”  Kakashi turned the burner off with a flick of his wrist and set down the spatula.  “Can you grab the butter?”
Sakura reached back inside the fridge, returning the carton to the top shelf and pulling out the ceramic butter dish.  When she turned around, she nearly dropped it.
“How-?” she stammered, staring open mouthed at Tabi now perched on Kakashi’s shoulder.
Kakashi strolled past her, coffee in one hand and the platter of bacon balanced on the other.  “Don’t tell Sasuke,” he simply said, and turned the corner into the living room.
Sakura let out a laugh of disbelief and shook her head.  She bumped the refrigerator door close with her hip, picked her mug off the counter, and followed Kakashi to the dining table.
Laid out across the table was a whole lot more than bacon.
“Was I really in the shower that long?” Sakura asked a little sheepishly as she took a seat.
Across from her, Kakashi shook his head, bringing his mug up to his lips.  “It’s ok.”
Sakura tried to smile, but even the heavenly smell of buttered toast and bacon couldn’t make her forget why she was there.
She had thought she’d surrendered her dignity when she showed up at Sasuke and Naruto’s dorm with little more than a suitcase and a short list of options.  This belief had been mortifyingly disproven when Sasuke informed her that his suitemates - people Sakura had grown to like over the past month and thought liked her in return - wanted her out.  Even now, the truth still stung… but could she blame them?  She didn’t go to Yale, a fact she had to point out to Sasuke when he insisted on trying to change their minds.  Kind as the offer was, she didn’t think she could take any more humiliation.  That is, until Sasuke insisted she go home.  And by home, he meant his home.  His and Kakashi’s.
Looking at the food laid out before her, she felt an all-too familiar pressure building up behind her eyes.  Distantly, she heard Kakashi set his mug down.
“Sakura,” he said, firm but gentle.
Sakura slowly looked up, meeting Kakashi’s intent gaze from across the table.
“It’s ok.”
Kakashi and Sasuke weren’t blood-related, Sakura knew this, but over time there were moments where she noticed that they shared the same eyes, where the force of their conviction threw open the windows to the soul and she’d catch a brief glimpse of a beautiful, unspoken truth: Sasuke may have been an Uchiha, but he inherited his heart from Kakashi.
After a moment, Sakura nodded.  “Ok.”
A wisp of a smile sneaked up in the corners of Kakashi’s eyes.  “Ok.

IN THIS HOUSE WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE HARUNO SAKURA!!!!
fuck yall who call her weak and useless, its not her fault kishimoto can't write female characters!!!
this also pisses me off because she has soooo much potential in the naruto cannon, but we never see it because of the poor writing, and how all of the women only serve to be damsels and eye candy ( which is a common problem in shounen and anime as a whole but that's another conversation)
anyways live laugh love haruno sakura and all the other naruto girls who's potential was squandered but are still epic and amazing

the fandom is crazy
you mad i am defending sakura?
then come buck me bitch
Tumblr media
!english ain't my first language!
before i get jumped because people might think i am attacking kishi
read it first
people legit defending kishimoto's bad female writing to prove hinata is the "best written" female baffles me
hinata only had one best moment she could have gotten the confidence boost she deserves but no kishi didn't
not being able to speak up for yourself doesn't mean you are just "shy"
sometimes you can speak up by actions or by proving yourself
kishi sadly didn't knew this
in part 1 hinata was very interesting
oOH BOY THEN IT GOT THROWN DOWN TRUCK KUN
what's even more surprising they keep saying "kishimoto is not a bad female writer sakura is just meant to be a bitch"
show me your sources? where has it been said? did kishimoto himself claim "i wanted to make sakura a bitch"
kishimoto was never interested in developing the female so actually just to downplay sakura y'all call him "the most realistic writer"
"realistic character writer"
they are writers who do not give in to fans demand
kishimoto was so pressured over by editor and studio pierrot bro never got to do his own thing
this is not a "realistic writer"
fans are to blame too
while oda and tite kubo did their own thing kishimoto gave in to the pressure
he himself claimed he had plans for sakura but thanks to hater he forgot them all
haters are to blame in the end.....if y'all actually gave kishimoto time to let her be developed maybe he would have done the same to every naruto female
this wouldn't be the case with fandom if y'all actually knew how to stfu for a moment
sakura became the victim of "unpopularity" which resulted in kishi giving up on her
reminder that was fucking 13 year old sakura
people hate on sakura for 'bullying' naruto
wasn't mf trying to steal her kiss without her knowing? hypocrisy much?
i salute kishi for being a good male character writer but he sucks at female character writing
the only good female character he ever wrote was tsunade and hanabi
sakura on other hand is way too overhated people bring up fillers to argue with sakura fans or call sakura fans "delusion"
read the manga then argue
she is much better in manga

I have nothing Valentines-y to post today
So instead y’all have to stare at my wives and appreciate them
And better post them all together to mark the end of this weird little project. Idk why I challenged myself to redesign all 6 main Naruto girls in 1 week, but I did it. Maybe because I wanted to test how I could exaggerate them, to explore a wider range of body types. And also for fashion. Can’t forget fashion.
I’m toying with the idea of drawing them as genin, to show how much a person can change in so little time, and the idea of drawing them as icky and awkward 12 year olds is fun to me. Even though, let’s be real, Temari was already a style icon at 13. I’m unsure for now.
Happy Galetines day!

The Sakura/Hinata Hypocrisy
Tumblr media
So, this post was inspired by a brief conversation on discord. And before anyone tries to pull the anti card, no. Just because I love Sakura does not mean I hate Hinata. I like Hinata. I think she’s a sweet character who had a lot of potential. And I really with the SakuHina friendship was explored more, their very cute.
But anyway, onto the post!
So, I have honestly thought about making a post about this for a long time, but was nervous to. Cause well… look at the Sakura/Hinata stans. Those guys will go for the throat for their girls.
But can you all just acknowledge the hypocrisy in this fandom?
Sakura tries, she fails: “what a useless bitch!”
Hinata tries, she fails: “She did her best! What a queen!”
Are you guys hearing yourselves? Do you not hear the utter hypocrisy of what you just said?
And it can be the other way around, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that I’ve mostly seen it go down this way.
SP’s favouritism for Hinata really didn’t help either. I know a lot of Hinata fans call her fight with Pain her best moment, but canonly, this happened.
Tumblr media
Her fight was all but one page.
Just about one page less then when Sakura jumped in front of Sasuke to protect him from Gaara.
Tumblr media
(Can’t find the other part sorry)
But despite the fact that these two situations were basically similar, Sakura is hated on while Hinata is endlessly praised.
Can we all just accept the fact that these girls were done dirty by the story?
Sakura’s development wasn’t as drastic as Naruto and Sasuke’s, but it was there. But that all gets thrown away for her love interest.
Hinata’s development and arc in part 1 was very interesting and I was excited to see her grow. But again. That all got thrown away for her love interest.
Because apparently women can’t have any goals outside of men, and if they dare move on from a gut they liked, that makes them a “bad person.”
And whenever they do get big moments, it’s quickly thrown away, for what? The men. And you know what part gets me the most? If Sakura and Hinata were written as men, they’d be better developed, better written, and everyone would love them.
I love Naruto, but I unfortunately can’t read the story with rose tinted glasses like I did when I was younger. The women in this series deserved way better than what they got.
Anyone, Sakura and Hinata’s friendship is adorable. I wish people would stop putting them against each other. Look how cute they are!
Anyway, thats it. Thanks for putting up with another Ted talk of mine.

There is no sun moon and earth stop trying to include that irrelevant fodder to sasuke and naruto's dynamic
We don’t stan Sakura hating/bashing/slander on this blog, only criticism where it’s fair. If you don’t like that, block me so you stop seeing my posts. It does wonders for your mental health.
I get that I’m to blame for getting character/shipping slander sent my way, but if these types of asks/comments continue I’m gonna stop responding to these types of asks and begin deleting comments/blocking people on sight. I don’t want to get into the habit of deleting comments I don’t agree with, but I also don’t want my blog to become an unsafe or hateful place.

This Fandom exhausts me…
I've had more than enough of some (many) of them reducing the characters to a single aspect of their personality and then having the total nerve to complain about it.
I swear to God, if I see one more post about Sakura accusing her of having a personality revolving essentially around Sasuke and then going on to accuse Kishimoto of sexism, I'm going to lose it.
It's certainly not Kishimoto's fault if their messed-up minds have fundamentally reduced a character like Sakura, a young girl with dreams, aspirations, doubts, insecurities, steely determination, and a warrior attitude, to some kind of appetizer for Sasuke.
It's not Kishimoto's fault if they took her insecurities, her pain of always being left out, her low self-esteem, her guilt about her team, her relentless struggle to measure up to her teammates, and minimized it to fit their absolutely absurd headcanon of her.
It's not Kishimoto's fault if they reduced a character like Sakura to her love for Sasuke. It's a part of who she is but by no means all she is.
And it's certainly not his fault if they have fundamentally built a Fanon version of her in their heads that has absolutely nothing to do with her real character. The worst part is that when she doesn't meet their exaggerated expectations, they are the first to scream sexism and bad writing (which always go hand in hand).
The only sexist thing I see here is that they have turned a balanced, credible, and highly interesting character in my opinion into a one-dimensional character who lives only for a guy, and it's more than frustrating.
Sasuke has been the catalyst for Sakura's change, that's an undeniable truth and you'd have to be really stupid to deny it, but so what?
Which important character in Naruto hasn't been influenced by someone at some point?
It's literally one of the themes of the story at this point.
Naruto himself wouldn't have become half of what he is now if it weren't for Sasuke's existence, but apparently when it comes to Sakura fucking Haruno, it becomes "her life revolves around a guy".
I'm sure if it had been Ino (or any other woman for that matter) to whom Sakura had shown such a level of dedication, the tune would have changed.
The Fandom would have been like "aww their love is so beautiful" or "they are so cute" but since Sasuke has a pair of balls, the author is called crappy, sexist, homophobic, and full of other garbage like that because he didn't adhere to their headcanon.
As for Sasuke, it's the same.
The next asshole who talks about Sasuke as a cold, lonely, emotionless individual that half of this damn fandom wants him to be will face my bitchy attitude. Sasuke is not without emotions, on the contrary, he loves too much, feels too much (it's almost a curse for the Uchiha).
And what's with this bullshit about "Sasuke is a bootlicker for Konoha"?!
Because he decided to sacrifice years of his life to keep those he loves safe? (namely his family and his damn best friend?)
Because he didn't meet the screwed-up expectations that some of his fans and antis had/have for him, he's Konoha's dog now?
This fandom has turned Sasuke into at times some kind of non-conformist anti-Konoha rebel, at times into a selfish asshole, abusive and sexist slash shitty father (depends on which part of the Fandom you enter), when he is none of those things. They have removed (trampled on) all the complexity of his character just to advance their own dubious agenda and then have the complete audacity to insult Kishimoto?
Oh yeah, something else…
…In which manga is Sasuke dependent on Naruto? In fact no, in which manga is Sasuke even dependent on anyone…?
At what point is it declared - even implicitly in the manga - that Uchiha fucking Sasuke could be forced to do something he didn't want to do?!
The only person who has managed to manipulate Sasuke, even just a little, is his older brother, but besides him, who else can claim to have this right?
Absolutely no one.
Sasuke is a great character with agency and incredible character development, thank you very much. I don't care about people's ideas about him, I don't care if they ship him with this or that character or if they don't ship him at all, I couldn't care less about their fantasies about his sexuality, I just wish they would keep their personal grudges and their absurd headcanon away from his canon character, in other words his real character.
I don't see why some people are trying to turn his character into something he's not. If they are not satisfied with him as he is, good for them but they should stop twisting the official canon to fit their fantasy.
Sasuke is complex in many ways, but not so complex that it warrants adults to get his character characterization completely wrong. If they really want to overanalyze a manga for 12 year olds, they should at least do it well.
