Remember that time the Darkling told Alina that he was 120 years old and then deadass made out with him later like he isn't actually a crotchety old man in the body of a hot, evil, 20 something

kaz never willingly takes his gloves off around anyone unless it’s for a job, because the rumours of what’s beneath them, the whispers of blood stained skin or demon claws, help to maintain the monsterous reputation he needs to survive. if kaz brekker is not human in the eyes of ketterdam, then he becomes impervious. it’s what he wants – for others to see him as the monster he had to become.
but he takes them off around inej. because somewhere buried inside him, clinging tightly and desperately like the little boy afloat on the Reaper’s Barge all those years ago, is the need for her to know the rumours aren’t true. he would never admit it to himself, but he needs to prove inej right – that he isn’t a monster, that his gloves are his protection and not his retribution. he needs her to know that he is human, with the calloused hands of the farm boy he could’ve been, and he could hold her. he would hold her, if only he could push past the terror.

Jesper “guard against pain” vs Wylan “guard against joy”
Jesper’s jokester and confident façade was to protect himself from feeling pain, but inside he’s insecure and vulnerable. He hid his grisha nature because the only person who ever treasured it was taken away from him, and grew up being told that it was a curse. So instead he acts like he doesn’t need it. He acts like he takes all the losses and all the hurtful things in good stride but deep inside he’s feeling lost and guilty all the time. That boy is always bouncing on his feet with guilt all the time in the duology. Guilt for disappointing everyone: his father, Kaz, Inej, his mother, and himself. When he thought about Wylan at the end of SOC he thought Wylan wouldn’t want to hang out with criminals like him anymore once he got the money and that had stung more than he thought: it’s the boy inside him feeling abandoned again, the boy that does no good to anyone other than in a fight. And he cope with all that pain, that guilt, with his addiction and his gunslinging - which no one really paid any mind until Wylan saw through his façade.
Wylan, whose joy and hope was taken away from him by his father, was always made to feel less than, shared the same constant feeling of guilt for just being who he is. His father made sure of it, that he knows he’s not allowed to feel anything but anxious and guilt, and his joy was to be choked out of him (metaphorically and literally). Wylan in the show couldn’t even believe when Jesper told him he was smart, thinking it was just a trick to coddle him into some false sense of joy before it would be taken away again. Wylan in the books still holding on to the last shred of decency for his father until that moment at Saint Hilde, instead blaming himself for it, maybe because it would give him a false sense of control over his own pain. Until Jesper saw his own guilt mirrored in Wylan, and helped him to his feet.
Both Jesper and Wylan were able to keep some part of goodness in the face of everything that happened in their lives: Jesper with his good spirits, Wylan with his morals - standing up against Kaz again and again despite being threatened every time. In Jesper, Wylan learned to accept joy again, and that this won’t be taken away from him. And in Wylan, Jesper knew that he has a safe space where he can accept his pain and heal from it in a healthy way.
“You can love something despite seeing all of its flaws.”
Anyway, Wesper is each other’s safe haven.

how are people deluding themselves that the six of crows spinoff could have in any way shape or form been faithful to the books. it's already so ridiculous how they were like "guys sorry shadow and bone season 2 sucks BUT if you want us to make a six of crows show that we promise will actually be good then we need renewal!!!!" like first of all why would we trust you to make a good six of crows show after this and second of all. the existence of shadow and bone netflix makes a good six of crows adaptation impossible anyway! the casting is not good (no matter how much you try to convince yourself that 30-year-old, able-bodied freddy carter is the perfect kaz brekker), and they used up all of the meaningful scenes from six of crows and crooked kingdom as surface level throwaway moments in season 2. i don't know how people can't see that the end of shadow and bone season 2 did NOT in any way set up the story ready for the ice court heist. why would inej even need to participate in the heist now? she's free she is killing slavers on a pirate ship that was her ENDING at the end of crooked kingdom. wylan and jesper are already together and happy so there's no reason for jesper to join the heist out of misplaced love and loyalty to kaz, and he could get money to pay off his gambling debts from smaller jobs in ketterdam. we already saw kaz's entire backstory and he already GOT REVENGE ON PEKKA ROLLINS. that is literally his primary motivation for the entire duology so why would he now go on a ridiculously dangerous and near-impossible heist when he got what he wanted already and the money doesn't matter to him anymore. and nina only wanted to do the heist in the first place to help get matthias out of hellgate, but if nobody else needs or wants to do anything about it what the hell would be the point. in conclusion it's good that they didn't get to make a six of crows spin off show because it would have fucking sucked! just reread the books

I think Inej's "I will have you without armor" scene is a good example of why you can't just randomly insert scenes from the source into an adaptation and call it a character arc. In the book, Kaz believes the only way to solve his issues is to brute force through them. When he tries to solve his touch repulsion, he does it by removing his gloves right away instead of dealing with the trauma that caused him to wear them in the first place, treating it as a physical failure instead of an emotional one. He isn't trying to solve his trauma, he wants to remove his "weakness". In fact, he is scared of letting go of the emotional damage done to him and reduces himself entirely to a "hurt guy looking for revenge who will destroy everything and everyone", since that's what has been keeping him going for years. Inej notices this, even if she doesn't have the full context. She witnesses him repeatedly trying to brute force his way through their relationship, opening up to her a bit only to shut her away the next second, because his only goal is to keep her by his side and not to actually heal himself. She understands his touch aversion is not just a physical thing, his gloves aren't just a way to cope with it, they are the symbol of everything that makes him a bad person - not his trauma, but the fact that he uses it as an excuse to hurt others. Inej herself has PTSD related to physical touch, but she doesn't let it define her, and she wants to heal and get over her past, so there is no way she could ever settle for a partner who is actively trying NOT to forget at the expense of hurting her and everyone around him. In the show, there is none of this buildup. We still don't know a single thing about Inej's trauma, except that one implied scene in s1 where she was scared of that dude touching her arm. She isn't even present for the wagon scene, which was supposed to be the first time Kaz was plainly suffering and in need of help. And Kaz is not running away from emotional responsibility - he has repeatedly told her how much she means to him, he tried to give her money to skip town, he got her indenture paid off, and all of that BEFORE this scene. So why is she saying it? What is the armor she is talking about?? It's word-for-word the same, but with none of the weight. It almost seems like it's literally just the gloves, just as all the bad-faith readers have been interpreting the scene for years, which makes me believe the writers went with that surface interpretation too and that's really sad

reading six of crows, getting to the line "how will you have me? fully clothed, gloves on, your head turned away so our lips can never touch? i will have you without your armour, kaz brekker, or i will not have you at all" and then jumping up and down screaming like my team just won the superbowl

leigh bardugo’s seemingly nonexistent grasp of military and government structures, basic politics, and real world oppression is honestly bewildering. like sometimes I’ll read a part of shadow and bone and have to literally stop and recollect my braincells. truly what an unparalleled experience.

that scene in the show where inej asks kaz what his tell is and that scene in the book where kaz’ eyes flit over inej when van eck was threatening him. apparently fucking jan van eck is smart enough to look for the real one.

The Shadow and Bone trilogy becomes very funny when you realize it’s a magic-coated variant of the “invisible kid is beloved by the time they hit their ten-year reunion” fantasy.

CHIYO HI I JUST READ UR LATEST DAZAI FIC AND I HAVE A LOT TO SAY.
"shh, you have to be patient, sweetheart,” — when dazai said this i actually died in his arms bc HE WOULD SAY THAT. i swear it's canon this man is into dragging out everything for so long that sex with him is just hours of him edging you. i would know
"a strained laugh left him, you could tell he was trying his best to keep his restraint" — AND IMAGINE HIM STRUGGLING TO KEEP HIS COMPOSURE AS HE'S TEASING YOU. *drops mic*
“oh, my pillow princess wants to be an impatient brat now? hmm.. fine then, no more playing nice" — i will jump off a roof bc dazai x bratty!reader is the best pairing on earth and u captured it perfectly AAHHHGGHHhhhh. i can imagine dazai smirking as he says this omg
"almost slipping in before he cruelly pulled back, and repeating the action" — ok so i forgot where i read it but there was this one headcanon that dazai has insane self-control and can edge u for hoursss even if it means delaying his own pleasure AND STOP BC WHY IS THAT SO HOT
"he'd do this thing where he'd fuck your thighs, thrusting his cock between them until he's on the brink of cumming— before pushing only the leaky tip past the tight ring of your cunt and shooting his load inside" — messy sex with dazai messy sex with dazai messy sex with dazai
"you felt like you were going insane— the torturous feeling of having your orgasm ripped away from you had you sobbing, begging dazai to just fuck you— let you cum. but of course, he didn't listen— only chuckling mischievously before grinning at you, reminding you that you brought this upon yourself" — this entire paragraph reminded me that dazai's so.. so... yknow (i forgot what word i was looking for) and oh mygod i hate this man but i also can't live without him AND HE'S SO IN CHARACTER AGH
"oh— fuck, how're you s-still so damn tight—" — u r driving me crazy bc i will think about the dialogue in this fic for ten million years. i will be on my deathbed (with dazai) and our kids will wait eagerly for my last words and i will say "go.. go read tumblr user sachiyoh's dazai fic.. go, my children.." and then one of them will pull the plug on us. anyways
"but he had to make you cum first, you earned it, after all." — DAZAI REWARDING US WE WON WE WON
and then zzz we fall asleep but no i stay up and think about this fic forever and ever. anyways
PLSSS SABS TJIS IS THE NICEST THING I'VE RECEIVED EVER 🥹 so glad u like it !! the fact that you quoted some of the parts WITH feedback is just— *explodes*

Hi, sorry to bother you, I'm new in this fandom and I feel like you're kind of a big figure in here, so I wanted to know if you read fanfics and, if so, if you had any rec for me? I can't say I like the usual take on Chuuya or Dazai or their relationship in most fanfictions, making of Dazai an emotionless bully and Chuuya an angry spazz with anger management issues and absolutely no brains.
Your takes on the character seems to me closer to actual canon, and so I figured you'd probably know of fics I would actually enjoy.
(If you do, then to be more specific, I'd rather avoid fics with no powers/modern aus and if explicit, then no bottom chuuya, please? For some reasons, bottom Chuuya writers always make him to be some dainty little princess and Dazai a daddy dom which is. Hilarious. Holy fuck.
Hi!! Damn i get ur problem 😭😭 I don't read fanfics regularly exactly because i cant find things that would be close to my perception of their relationship,, even if, i read mostly oneshots
Im picky af,,
Tbh i don't really remember many fics, but for some reason i have saved a bunch of them by halfbloom (diphylleias) so i would only guess my past (months ago) self thought the writer was good real good. I dont remember most of these, but i must say i regulary reread one of their fics, "Castles out of couches" (this is a oneshot consisting of??? A lot of very short stories about skk living together) (im a sucker for domestic skk that r still silly and bickering for fun) (and this fanfic is exactly that) (instead of suddenly very cutesy and petnames using couple that some ppl write) (castles out of couches makes me giggle like a teenage girl) (i drew some old arts based on this one, even)
So i would start from there and then check other halfbloom works with tags u r interested in! (I obv skipped what i didn't wanna read right) (tho i think they mostly write skk talking things thru, which is cool)) (there may be nsfw in some ig?? But it's bearable amounts + none of that annoying uwu chuuya daddy dazai)
