My personal biggest pet peeve regarding analyses of Belos (obviously aside from “he’s just evil and analyzing him at all means you support his actions” and “he deserves redemption actually”) is that so many people take his hatred of witches completely at face value--as simply being the result of his indoctrination into witch-hunting as a child in Gravesfield, that these are just the beliefs he was raised with and that he never grew to see past his prejudice like Caleb did. But that is such an oversimplification of his character, and it also ignores what is in my opinion the main driving force behind all of his actions: Caleb himself.
Belos doesn’t think all witches are evil because he was raised to be a witch-hunter. He HAS to keep himself convinced that they are, because if the witches are not evil, then he has two realities to face:
Caleb left him of his own free will, not because he was under a spell or led astray by the devil.
Belos murdered his own brother, the only person he ever loved, for nothing.
And these CANNOT be true.
Belos’s need to be the hero who saves humanity from witches is not the reason he killed his brother, it’s the result of it.

When your brother is the only family you have and he abandons you and you spend years searching for him in what you think to be hell itself only to find him with a new family thriving without you and in your rage you lash out at him and kill him so you have to delude yourself into thinking that he was led astray by the devil (because which is less painful to believe--that your brother was under a spell or that he willingly chose hell itself over you and abandoned you for it?) and that you were putting him out of his misery but you know that his soul will be damned if that's true and more than anything you can't bear to live without him so you bring him back from the dead to try again and you convince yourself that you can 'save' him and make him not commit this sin (read: love someone other than you) but it happens again so you kill him and recreate him again and again but he never once changes because the idealized brother you're trying to bring back never existed in the first place but you can't stop because then you'd have to acknowledge that everything you've done has been for nothing and all you've accomplished over centuries and centuries is murdering your own brother countless times over

Hunters design is peak character design
So true!! I just love the number of little, unique design elements he has--his dark circles, thick eyebrows, aquiline nose, tooth gap, scars, notched ear, ahoge, etc... I feel like a common issue in character design is characters looking too similar to one another, but we don't get this problem with Hunter at all (nor the majority of TOH characters, in fact). The uniqueness of his design of course also helps when the audience does need to recognize the similarity of his appearance to Caleb, like upon seeing the statues in Gravesfield or the memory paintings in Belos's mind. I think pretty much everyone, not just people deep in the fandom, immediately recognized these images of Caleb as specifically looking like Hunter, which is pretty impressive for the design of an animated character in my opinion!

Something that i don't feel gets talked about enough is just the amount of isolation hunter went through he spent way to much of his time in the castle and probably not allowed/able to really talk with anyone (outside of giving orders) but belos (who doesn't seem to talk to him much). the only love or attention it seems he got was from what little approval belos gave him. the mind needs other people to function properly, no wonder he was so desperate to please belos
Absolutely. And this is exactly why Belos forbade Hunter from being around the other scouts or even leaving the castle without permission--Caleb "betrayed" him by considering someone other than Belos as family, so the Grimwalkers need to be as isolated as possible to ensure that they're entirely emotionally dependent on Belos, just as he wanted Caleb to be.

I hate it when people say hunter has trouble preforming simple tasks, like he wasn't made the golden guard for nothing
I mean to be fair, he kind of was made the Golden Guard for nothing--the Golden Guard position has always just been occupied by the next Grimwalker in line, so even though he went through all those trials before gaining this position, those were probably just for publicity's sake to make it seem like a highly coveted position that he worked for and earned (though it seems this wasn't entirely effective, as the Emperor claiming him as his nephew has been implied to have made the Coven Heads at least see his position as simply the result of nepotism).
But to your point--he went through all those trials!! He managed to survive witches' duels despite possessing literally no magic of his own, and this was before getting his artificial staff, as he inherited that only once he was made Golden Guard! He survived mazes full of traps! He was left alone on a mountain and made it back to the bottom alive! And he did it all before the age of 16! So yeah, I'd say this is a pretty capable boy.

Do you write / have an A03? Also, how did you feel about the finale for the show, and do you think we'll get any animated Owl House content in the future? Finally, why do you like The Owl House so much?
Nope, I'm not a writer unfortunately. That's not to say it'll never happen, but I don't have anything written or in the works at the moment. Thank you for your interest, though!
I personally really disliked the finale if I'm being honest. It was definitely my least favourite episode and kind of retroactively ruined the show for me a bit. If someone wants me to elaborate I can, but I won't go into more detail than that for now as it would be a very long rant lol. Nothing but respect for the Owl House crew of course; I know they put a lot of effort into it.
As for the potential for new animated content, I could not say. I couldn't even speculate as we really don't know anything. That will pretty much all be up to Disney and whether they think it worth their money. If we ever did get new content, it would probably be a young Eda spinoff since it seems that's what Dana wanted to do. That wouldn't be of particular interest to me, but I guess I would watch it in hopes for some more content regarding Darius. A lot of people have also wondered about a Wittebane spinoff, and before the finale came out, this was the spinoff I was most in support of and would've paid basically anything to see. But considering how much I did not like the writing of the Wittebanes in the finale and what Dana has shared of their story in Posthoots, I've decided I actually do not want them to elaborate any more on that story and I would actually prefer there to not be a canon account of what happened lmao.
I know this would not happen, but if they were to make more Owl House content, I would personally love just to see more content of the Hexsquad's time in the Human Realm. Give me some cute slice of life content with some character studies! Show me how the kids adjusted to being there and how their friendships deepened during that time! It wouldn't even have to be a full TV series; they could just post some shorts on YouTube or something if that would be more profitable for them. Disney if you're listening feel free to steal this idea please
Why I like this show so much is a hard question to give an answer to; I love it for so many different reasons! But the main reason has to be the characters. In my opinion, The Owl House is at its strongest when it takes the time to really focus in on a character's motivations and arc, as well as their relationships with other characters, above other aspects like the overarching plot, worldbuilding, etc. as I feel these are its weaker aspects. Characters who stand out in particular to me in terms of their strong writing are Luz, Hunter, and Belos. But as I said really any moment dedicated to exploring character development and interactions tends to be really well executed in this show.
Another aspect I love is of course the representation. I get a little choked up when I think about how the kids who watched this series are going to grow up having seen gay people completely normalized onscreen, and how lifechanging that would've been for me when I was a kid. Also I feel like we as a fandom do not talk nearly enough about its depictions of mental health, and especially its depictions of a panic attack and a real breathing technique you can use in that situation! I know I for one have made good use of that technique, and I've heard other people online mention that they've used it too or even that it's helped their kids and I just :') :') :') thank you Dana
And of course I couldn't answer this without highlighting my favourite episode, Hollow Mind. I was a fan of the series before it aired, but this is the episode that fully activated my obsession that has endured for over a year now. 10/10 writing, storyboarding, dialogue, voice acting, art, animation, music, everything. This is the episode that also fully introduced into the story the Wittebane brothers and the Grimwalker plotline, which anyone who spends any time on this blog can see live rent free in my brain at pretty much all times :)
