today’s been slow— i can’t pretend i got much more done than blocking out my preliminary course schedule and helping my elderly neighbor with laundry. and, of course, stealing the affections of said neighbor’s cat. 🐱

Most people are aware that I carry three Bic Medium Point Roundstic black ink pens in the classic style at all times. Two in my pocket and one behind my ear. This one is very special though. One year ago today my daughter Katrina got on the plane in Porto, Portugal to return home after accompanying me on a very long tour. Before she got on the plane she handed me this pen that she had recovered from the car we had rented. I don’t know why but the gesture of her having saved it for that moment meant something to me. So ever since then, during this whole year, the two pens in my pocket have sometimes changed but the pen behind my ear has always been this one. I even lost it in the couch cushions of a coffee shop once and knocked on the door late at night when they had closed to have them help me look for it. Later I gave it a small identity mark in case it fell in with other imposter pens. Anyway just one of those things. And it still works too.
