Old Fashioned Killebrew Cream Soda Review
Tumblr media
Yep, it's a cream soda review. Never thought I'd do that, but here we are.
My local grocery store keeps advertising these as 10 for $10 and I'd never taken the time to try them out until now. Keen eyes may recognize the name Killebrew as a power player for the Minnesota Twins baseball team, from 1954 to 1975. He's a household name in Minnesota, even for people who don't care about baseball.
Anyway, the beverage. I'll start off with some background - I have never particularly liked cream soda. As a child, I thought it had a disappointingly flat and just "sweet" flavor, and never picked it out when I was given a rare chance to get a soda myself from the store. I recall A&W cream soda tasting just faintly of vanilla, but otherwise overpoweringly, cloyingly sweet. I felt it was too similar other flavors that are meant to taste only like candy/sugary treats (like cotton candy or bubble gum). The only exception to my cream soda dislike were the Dum-Dums cream soda flavored suckers, which I have always loved for their light fruity flavor with a hint of vanilla.
Tumblr media
I am so pleased to report that this Killebrew cream soda tastes almost EXACTLY like the Dum-Dums. I've never actually had a cream soda that tastes like this candy, and I love it. It's sweet, but not too cloying, and while the primary sweetener is still HFCS, the aftertaste is minimal and the flavor doesn't linger on the tongue. A fun fact is that the ingredients say it contains "Pure Minnesota Honey". I'm not sure that I can taste the honey per se, but the flavor is great. The fizz is fairly light, as well.
Honestly, 10/10. I would not mark it as chuggable, but that's because it should be savored.
I have a root beer from this company in my fridge, as well, that I plan to try later. If it's as good as the cream soda, we absolutely have a winner.

Sigh. Here we go. Another Orca Beverage. This will suck, I don't even have to try it. I can't just tell.
...
It's a honey soda. Just call it a honey soda. This is not root beer. This is honey. It tastes exactly like those Honees hard candies:

Not root beer and a disgrace to America. If it was marketed as a honey vanilla drink then fine. FINE! It would be fine. And that's all. But it's called Americana ROOT BEER. Three words that should not be anywhere near this product.
Christ Almighty. 0/10

Time for another root beer float experiment. Today its neopolitan, the classic chocolate vanilla and strawberry combo ice cream that let's you cheat when you choose it as your favorite and avoid actually picking a favorite flavor
Anyway the rootbeer and vanilla, of course the classic and traditional float flavor, is burried under the chocolate and strawberry. The chocolate really kind of clashes with the rootbeer flavor. It's fine but wont get me to try other chocolate rootbeer floats anytime soon. The strawberry actually paired with it most excellently. Considering orange is also a very good root beer float ice cream (when I can find it) I might have to check more fruit flavors to see if fruit in general just make good rootbeer floats. I saw an apple flavor the other day . . .
Anyway altogether neopolitan makes an acceptable rootbeer float. 6/10

And now, folks, an obituary of the year 2022, with many things happening during the last 12 months. With a cameo from Charles M. Schulz's very own Snoopy. Have a happy, safe and peaceful New Year, folks. - Al.

Detailing a tag system for easy sorting of my root beer reviews
If I decide to post on here regularly, it seems fitting that I create a shorthand system allowing easy search of my reviews for a root beer that suits your preferences. Here's an example of what I propose:
# Barq's (R6, S8, Medium, LWiVa)
This shorthand system incorporates four elements:
My overall review score for the root beer in question, out of 10.
How sweet I think the relevant brew is, relative to other root beers I've tried, out of 10.
How strong the "root beer flavor" (think sassafras and sarsparilla) is, classified as Weak/Medium/Strong.
The relative flavor profile of the root beer, taking into account the three main flavors of Licorice, Wintergreen, and Vanilla.
Please let me know your thoughts!

Pulled Pork - Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Pullman and root beer? An unlikely combination that, when simmered in the slow cooker, produces a delicious secret sauce. This simple approach is effective.

Parlor, Butterscotch Root Beer
Parlor Beverages out of Wilkes-Barre, PA seems to specialize in the deep flavored postfixed "-beers" of the soda family, having a regular Root Beer, a true to the North East US Birch Beer, a seasonal Pumpkin Root Beer, and today's flavor Butterscotch Root Beer. The butterscotch flavor is deep and rich and plays interestingly with what I would guess is a more traditional wintergreen's bitterness. The drink has a simple sweet butteryness, and as such, I think it pairs very nicely with freshly popped popcorn. If you like sweeter Root Beers I would recommend this one to you, and I intend to try Parlor's regular Root Beer to see if it's more in the herbal tradition. Will report back on that when I can. Another interesting note is you will need a way to open the bottle cap, as it is a regular pop top, and not a screw top. Probably means the soda was bottled at a facility that processes beer, and it was perhaps cheaper, or impossible to have a screw top bottle. As always feel free to check out their website for further details; https://store.drinkparlor.com/

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Root beer and pulled pork? An unlikely pairing that makes a delicious secret sauce when simmered in the slow cooker. This easy method is a winner. 1 can or bottle root beer, 8 hamburger buns split and lightly toasted, 1 bottle your favorite barbecue sauce, 1 pork tenderloin

#Kroger #KrogerBigKRootBeerZeroSugarSoda #GroceryStoreSoda #RootBeerZeroSugarFlavoredSoda#FlavoredZeroSodaReview
I tried the Kroger Big K Root Beer Zero Sugar Soda and it was pretty good.
This zero sugar root beer was lightly fizzy and lightly sweet in taste. This zero sugar root beer tasted similar to the Culver’s Diet Root Beer you get in the fountain drink area.
This was sweet but not overly sweet to me.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the same brand of zero sugar root beer but now you can get it for a $1 or $10 for $10 in the big plastic bottles.
I would drink this again.
I mixed this with the Kroger Dr. K Soda Zero Sugar and it was pretty good.
This tasted like zero sugar Dr. Pepper mixed with zero sugar root beer and it wasn’t fizzy.
This was smooth in texture due to no fizz and was slightly sweet but not overly sweet to me.
I would drink this mix again.
Got at Kroger.
I mixed this with mountain dew zero sugar and it was pretty good.
This mix tasted like root beer with a light citrus after taste.
This mix was lightly fizzy in texture.
This mix tasted lightly sweet while lightly bitter.
I would drink this again.
I mixed this with Fanta zero sugar and it was pretty good.
It tasted like a orange cream soda with a light root beer taste at the end.
This was lightly fizzy in texture.
This was sweet but not overly sweet to me.
I would drink this again.

This is basically rootbeer.
Taiwanese people believe that they can cool people down, and whenever someone has heatstroke or was under the sun for a while, they are told to drink this.
A variety of this +salt is also available.
very foamy. Lots of bubbles. Pretty good.

Dr. Wells Review
I came across Dr. Wells at Price Chopper the other day – I rarely get soda there or at any major supermarket, although I’m morbidly curious about these Warheads-flavored sodas – and although it’s currently bottled by Dad’s Root Beer, a brand I’ve never really explored, the label says it’s been around since 1935. I’ll look into its history presently, but a soda that’s stuck around that long must…

Trying to restore this blog with brand-new, never-before-seen, fresh-baked root beer reviews. The picture is from a few weeks ago.
6/10. Barq's is better than Mug and comparable to A&W in my book. Licorice is the dominant flavor, and wintergreen is secondary - there isn't much vanilla, especially compared to the others from the Big Three. There's also a lot more tertiary spice here than in a lot.of other root beers. My issue with it is that it's too sweet and uses corn syrup instead of cane sugar.
