VAGINAS AND JAPAN
What would happen if in a country like Japan, which has a festivity on phallic symbols (Kanamara Matsuri), a woman decides to exhibit art whose main concept is the vagina? Maybe you already know the answer or you can imagine it or maybe not, anyway this is what happened to Megumi Igarashi, a mangaka, artist, sculptor, feminist and activist, whose mission is to free Manko.
Tumblr media
❀ MEGUMI IGARASHI
also known by her stage name Rokudenashiko, which means good for nothing, she was born in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan, on March 14, 1972. Unlike her sister, who was a perfect girl, Megumi wasn't a good student, wasn't even good at sports and wasn't a very formal girl either. Igarashi was also bullied, although she was so insensitive that didn't even realize she was being bullied. In 1990 she moved to Tokyo to study philosophy at Kokugakuin University. Shortly after graduating in 1994, she began to devote herself to manga, even winning an award from the Kodansha publishing house in 1998. Making manga made her less and less excited due to the competitiveness, but Igarashi found a refuge in experience reporting manga or of reality (taiken rupo).
In 2002 Megumi got married so she began to introduce her sexual experiences into her works. She created a manga about infidelities (something that happened in their marriage on both sides) and as the society in which she lives they only get angry with women and men are usually forgiven, but very few people in Japan managed it understand, so didn't have many sales. When discussing her sexual experiences, she realized that no female mangaka drew pussys. Megumi says that all the feminist artists' portraits of vaginas she had seen were sad and dark, showing how difficult it is to be a woman, but she wanted to show a more cheerful and colorful vision of the vagina and make it a pop icon, just like the penis in her country.
Igarashi had a complex about her own vagina, as she had never seen another one before and thought her might be abnormal. More or less there came the idea of starting to make molds and art on her vulva. At first the artist was a bit cautious, but when she started receiving a lot of negative reviews and comments like "you must be a really horny girl", she jumped at the idea of dedicating herself to making art with her manko (Japanese slang for refer to vagina).
Tumblr media
Megumi wants women to be able to talk about their pussy freely. "Most Japanese women have been brainwashed by their parents since they were children to think that their body, especially their vagina, is obscene. Boys are allowed to talk about the penis easily, even in public, but girls are not allowed. Parents forbid it. I think it leads women to think that our sexual organs are shameful and dirty. If women had more freedom to talk about their vagina, they could ask to use a condom, discuss sexual illnesses, their problems, etc. without being embarrassed, since people feel uncomfortable just hearing man(ko), but the same doesn't happen when they hear the word penis". Verbatim words from her blog 6d745.
❀ MANKO ART
As I said before the main theme of Rokudenashiko's art is her Manko. With that idea always being the center of her artistic concept, she has designed a lot of objects from necklaces, bracelets, to cell phone covers or even a remote-controlled robot.
Tumblr media
Within her art collection in 2011 a series was born that she calls Deco-man, which is a play on words between decoration and manko. It basically consists of making molds of her vagina, decorating them and turning them into dioramas where her vagina is subtly camouflaged, like on that golf course or on the moon.
Her star work is a 2 meter Kayak called Pussy Boat. She even cost her freedom to carry it out.
Tumblr media
And how can we forget about Manko-chan, her beloved pop icon. A very striking figure with a funny (obviously) slightly anthropomorphic pussy shape that has a manga and a lot of merchandising such as: floats, clothes, figures of different colors, plushies, etc.
She also organizes workshops for women who are interested in learning more about their vagina. And they don't need to bring materials, since Megumi prepares everything.
❀ HOW DID SHE BECOME AN ALLEGED CRIMINAL?
In July 2014, the mangaka was arrested at her home and all her works were seized for violating Japanese law against obscenity. It all begins in 2013 when she wants to raise money through crowdfunding to carry out her star work, a Kayak (pussy boat) with which to take walks.
Tumblr media
To all the people who contributed to the project, she sent the data of her vagina so that they could make the 3D project, but despite the fact that it was something artistic / for work, it violated the laws of obscenity, since in Japan it is forbidden to share your private parts. Obviously, Igarashi didn't think her detention was fair at all, since sharing data isn't obscene at all. "My vagina is no different from my legs or my arms," She claimed to the police. And of course it was not fair at all, since the police and the press, from a corrupt system, violated her rights and criminalized Megumi for an act that she didn't even initially have, political, vindictive and far from obscene intentions.
She spent 10 days in jail, during which time a total of 21,000 signatures were collected online to drop the charges against Megumi, and a week later she was released. But on December 3 of that same year, she was arrested again along with Minori Watanabe, a feminist writer and sex shop owner, for displaying an "obscene" object, a plaster replica of Pussy Boat, in Watanabe's store. (everything in a sex shop could be considered obscene, don't bother). On December 24, Igarashi was charged with "exhibition of obscenity", "electromagnetic obscenity recording" and "distribution of electromagnetic obscenity recording medium" and was finally released on bail on the 26th. In 2015 the trials took place to declare her guilty or not guilty.
A couple of curiosities that I have read on her Twitter is that of the 3 judges of the supreme court who handled her case over the years, all were men and in Japan there are also women in the supreme court and also that since she was bored between trial and trial looked for a part-time job.
Tumblr media
*a part is not guilty* Photograph: Kazuhiro Nogi
In 2016 she was found not guilty, because as the Kayak had such a striking decoration and color it was difficult to relate it to a pussy. She still had to pay a fine of ¥400,000 (€2,800 / $3,100) for having shared her vagina data and everything that the police had seized from her was returned and Megumi was finally able to navigate her kayak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Had she been found guilty, she would have faced 2 years in prison and a fine of ¥2.5 million ($19,400/€18,000), a disproportionate punishment considering what she did. In 2021 Megumi Igarashi could already breathe without worry since she had her last trial (she could still have gone to jail), she paid the fine and is finally free. But not everything was a punishment for Igarashi, thanks to the fact that her case went viral and reached many parts of the world, Mike Scott, singer and guitarist of The Waterboys, became interested in her, he is currently her husband and they both had a son. So for Megumi being arrested became a kind of Tinder.
❀ WHAT IS OBSCENITY? 2016
French edition/ spanish edition
Megumi Igarashi narrates in this manga a bit of her life, everything that led her to make art with her vagina, the days she was in prison and the injustices and absurd situations she has experienced.
Tumblr media
Obscenity is full of very interesting reflections on the female body and why it is considered obscene. Spoiler alert: because the man only sees them as a sexual object, but Rokudenashiko proves that it is just another body part. "They can be erotic, but they can also be funny, empowering or adorable."
The manga It a strong criticism of Japanese society, although it can also be applied to many others (I think the whole world shares taboos towards the vagina, maybe not in the same way, but in essence). This criticizes hypocrisy, since of course penises and vaginas are not the same, but not only in form and function but also because of how they are treated/represented in society. Megumi questions the reason for this, because the vagina is disgusting and is never portrayed, why it is talked about with disgust or even it seems as if it is forbidden to talk about it because it generates rejection and yet the same thing doesn't happen with the penis.
A couple of details that catch my attention is how the "Good for nothing" hides her anger with humor. In fact, humor is also used to cover up situations of criticism and injustice and thereby demonstrate the strength of the author, she applied the best way to laugh rather than cry. The other detail is how she never gives a conclusion. This manga that borders on the documentary, doesn't have absolute answers, only guidelines through personal experiences so that you can draw your own conclusions and be more or less on her side. She doesn't try to force you to have her same ideals.
What is Obscenity? is an excellent choice if you want to eliminate the taboos that your society has put in your head about the pussy, see the vagina with different eyes, normalize it, appreciate it much more and turn it into something pop.
Just say thank you Megumi Igarashi and FREE MANKO! <3

happy steam sale to all, here’s a 'little’ rec list for (primarily) indie games that, in my opinion, isn’t as popular as they deserve to be!
Ghostwire: Tokyo -60% the only triple a game you’ll see on this list, and my own all time personal favourite. if you like anime, japanese history and folklore, and bromance, you will very likely love this game. it also lets you explore Tokyo and pet the dogs! and cats! literally perfect game!!
Iconoclasts -70% i have been shilling this game, at every major steam sale, for pretty much four-five years. before Ghostwire, it was my all time favourite video game. it was in development, by one person, for around eight years. it is still, in my opinion, one of the most gorgeous pieces of pixel art in the whole damn medium. just. please check it out i beg
Angels of Death -40% rpgmaker game that absolutely excels at being a character driven story. it also got an anime adaptation? which i’ve actually never seen?? but if you grew up playing horror rpgmaker games, please do yourself a favour, and check this out. and if you didn’t- check it out anyway! it’s not super scary or anything, with a more psychological horror focus
Owlboy -65% tiny owl boy does his very best and will worm his way into your heart and then crush it because life is maybe a bit too cruel to him. also you can fly! did i mention you can fly??
Pony Island + The Hex -80% did you adore Inscryption? did you like the meta element? then oh boy, should you check out Daniel Mullins’ two former games! they’re good! probably has the same vibe as Inscryption! could not tell you i still have not played that thing! but these are both very good, and absolutely worth every cent
Underhero -70% it’s a bit rough around the edges, but man, this game has so much love put into it, and i think it deserves way more love than it got
My Friend Pedro -75% the action is definitely the high point here, but i have a personal soft spot for the lil’ bit of lore we do get. like, there is something there, and i want to dig my fingers in. also wacky banana is funny
Sayonara Wild Hearts -40% queer girls on motorcycles? in my rhythm game?? it’s more likely than you think!! (also, if you suck at rhythm games: me too, this is still worth picking up)
MO:Astray -50% the fact that seemingly no one on tumblr has played this... despite the fact that it feels like it’d be a right shoe in... criminal. there is a little CREACHUR! LOOK AT IT. IT IS A SLIME!!
The Messenger -75% i legit thought this game was way more popular than it, apparently, is, which i think just speaks volume of my opinion on it. it’s genuinely right up there with Shovel Knight as iconic retro throwbacks- plus! the devs are making THE most gorgeous indie rpgs, apparently set in the same universe. so that is another reason to check it out
This Strange Realm of Mine -90% an extremely weird little game that will likely not be for everyone, or even most people, but that i really liked. considering the price, i don’t really think there’s much to lose on buying this little gem
Darkside Detective -70% funny point & click game with very shipable protagonists! there’s also a ‘second season’ that i have not played (yet), but is very likely absolutely worth getting
Haiku, the Robot -33% it is, rather obviously, not as good as Hollow Knight, but if you’re suffering from ‘waiting for Silksong’, perhaps this little gem will tide you over
Transiruby -30% another small metroidvania! has really pretty pixel art, and is just a fun little time
Flynn, Son of Crimson -50% not what it was promised, but it’s a fun platformer with gorgeous pixel art, and a dog. it’s a good time, and isn’t that what we all want :]
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows -70% a cute horror game, with excellent enemy designs, and a whole town to explore. also the story is so good. i am still absolutely enamoured with this title. this is, technically, the 2nd in a series, but you can play the games standalone, and while i’m sure the 1st is just as good, i’ve only played this one. because priorities (also keep in mind!! that this is a horror game!!! i’d recommend looking up some trigger warnings, because, uh. horror game!)
A Short Hike -35% just an extremely cozy and fun little game. exploring every inch of this island was just such a good time, i still think extremely fondly of this title
Webbed -30% i am gently laying an hand on the shoulder of every bug enthusiastic on this website. you play as a spider. who is trying to get back her boyfriend from a bird. and there’s a really fun swinging mechanic. do you really need anything more?
Garden Story -60% i am once again shocked this game isn’t more popular. what do you mean a cozy adventure game with community restoration, foraging, and some fun combat with a grape protagonist isn’t one of the biggest sellers in cozy gaming spheres. there’s a frog. you can put on different hats. what else do you want!!
Donut County -70% funny little game about making holes and being a chaotic racoon. i have an extremely soft spot for the characters in this, i could not explain it <3
also Oxenfree is not on sale, but it’s cheap, and the sequel is dropping very soon! and you should absolutely check it out! because it’s really REALLY good!!

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Review
Tumblr media
Following so closely after the vastly superior Japanese reboot, it's clear that Warner Bros' run with Godzilla is all about spectacle over substance. It is undoubtedly the weakest entry in the franchise. While the stories in this universe have always been weak, this one is the thinnest. The plot comes across more like a child playing with action figures than something thought out for a multimillion dollar movie.
Godzilla has no story and little purpose, kept in merely because it's his universe. The writers add in some third-act monster reveal just to give him something to do, which ultimately is just a rehash of How to Train Your Dragon 2.
The good news is the story is so thin that for once the human element doesn't detract from the rest. Not that it serves much purpose anyways. The most interesting element of the film is linking Kong and Mothra's tribes together, though that's just to give the humans something to do.
Kong is the only one worth following. His story feels like they were trying to copy Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The main villain looks and acts just like Koba but without the interesting backstory. While this could never compare to that classic, it at least gives the audience something to follow along. It's a shame that the movie introduces two original villains, considering all the series' original villains are dull and boring, when there's so many iconic foes from Godzilla's long history to draw on.
The cast is fine. There's only three returning characters from the last one. Two are at least attempting to have an emotional arc while one is just there to be the audience surrogate for information dumps.
There's really only two new human characters. Alex Ferns as the soldier-guide is interesting at first but devolves into just another stereotypical movie jerk. Dan Stevens' Trapper seems to be the only one having fun and he definitely lightens things up whenever he's on screen.
What the previous movies lacked in story, they made up for in visual spectacle. Unfortunately, this movie doesn't deliver. Rarely do these feel like gigantic skyscrapper-sized creatures as it's often shot on their eye level making them seem like any human.
Considering how well Hong Kong was done in the last movie, it's a shame that this does little to integrate the actual cities the fights occur in. The Pyramids of Giza are the only iconic thing used, while Rome's Colosseum seems like someone was just using some stock photos. There's no reason the finale is set in Rio de Janeiro as whatever potential is completely wasted.
The greatest waste of potential is the fight without gravity. What should have been an interesting spin devolves into the usual slamming of creatures into one another.
The worst part of the movie is that it's just dull. It comes across as just content to fill space rather than something anyone really wanted. Elements like Godzilla's pink form and Kong's robot hand feel committee generated to revive toy sales. Mothra's return should be exciting given her legacy, but feels thrown in just to have another iconic character and a deus ex machina for a problem they couldn't solve.
Ultimately, it's just a popcorn movie. Something to enjoy for a few hours then immediately forget.

Adrenaline Rush
After slogging through Diablo IV, all the while listening to video essays about terrible authors (thank you ReadswithRachel), there were still a mountain of games that I needed to tackle in order to bring some semblance of order to my ever-growing backlog. But rather than play through yet another hundred-hour adventure, I opted for something far shorter. Enter: Hi-Fi Rush.
Tumblr media
While I have very mixed feelings about Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda and now, it seems, Activision Blizzard, there is no denying that Hi-Fi Rush is a masterpiece of a game that serves as a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of the dull doldrums that come from staring at dirt or uninspired graphic design.
In fact, there is definitely something to be said for choosing a colourful, high contrast and bombastic art style to go with one's game. It certainly livens up the screen and makes everything pop. Something that could not be said of the recent triple-A games that I recently played through.
Beyond that, it just brings a smile to my face to see a game that doesn't take itself too seriously when it comes to world-building. And it's all the better for it.
Too many games these days have gone the realistic grimdark route and it has honestly sapped some of the fun out of what would have been interesting worlds. As a random aside, you can still be grimdark and still have a colourful world filled with a mixture of fun and funny characters.
But back to the game at hand!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Releasing at the start of the year with no fanfare to describe of, Hi-Fi Rush was a sleeper hit for many gamers although it has tracked well with critics. So, when it was on sale on Steam, I went ahead and bought it. And instead of sitting there for years and years, the delay between purchase and me playing it was only a few months, give or take!
What struck me immediately was the art. I loved seeing the bold lines that defined the characters and the environment. Instead of the dreary atmosphere that came from Diablo IV or Forspoken, I was met with a highly saturated world that wasn't afraid of splashing around a little colour.
True, it might not be a colour scheme or graphic choice for every game but it certainly stood out from the stuffy triple-A crowd.
The second thing that I fell in love with were the host of allies, from Peppermint to Macaron, CNMN and finally Korsica. Though the game was fairly short and the time that I spent with them didn't extend to hundreds of hours, I enjoyed what few conversations that Chai had with them and the immediate dynamic that naturally sprung up between them through in-game banter.
This was a game that didn't waste one's time with endless backstory. It was a burst of game that could be replayed if one wanted and did not overstay its welcome.
Combat, too, took on an interesting twist with attacks landing on beat. This provided some extra challenge to combat but never made pulling off combos difficult as I slashed and slammed my way through the Vandelay Technologies offices to bring down the man - or in this particular case, greedy CEO Kale Vandelay.
It also made sense from a narrative perspective with Chai having his music player being inserted into his chest when his broken arm was initially replaced with a robot arm at the start of the game.
And perhaps that's what makes Hi-Fi Rush such a great game. Almost all of the aspects of the game are interconnected - be it the gameplay, the narrative or even the logs that players can pick up. The fact that the game isn't afraid to also poke fun and get a little meta, which only adds to the game's charm.
While the villains were a little one-note, playing into stereotypes, there were also hidden depths to their characters that were often revealed in their boss battles. And what spectacles they were! Especially against Roquefort! That was truly wonderful - especially the homage to Scrooge McDuck's money bin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, there were so many iconic moments, it's hard for me to nail down which one was my favourite.
If I had to say what my main gripe with the game was though, I'd say it had to be the lack of healing options during battle except for special abilities. It was also disappointing to see how little Chai recovered when he picked up the small health energy that was scattered around the environment.
Still, it did make the boss battles nailbiting knowing that I could only heal Chai only once I'd managed to fill up the energy bar to use my healing special ability.
As for gameplay that wasn't combat related, while it annoyed me that I couldn't explore every inch without first unlocking another character first, I enjoyed the challenges although I did find the platforming a little finicky on occasion.
Overall, though, Hi-Fi Rush was an excellent palate cleanser after the less than impressive Diablo IV. And while I would have liked to spend more time in the world of Hi-Fi Rush to understand the backstory for a few more of the characters, I enjoyed my time with it - from the zany plans to the humorous gags that are maintained through the entire game like the Vandelay robots rebelling by ensuring all the coffee machines only serving decaf.
Here's hoping that developers learn to break up their usual doom and gloom with something that brings back the joy of gaming. It almost feels like we're returning to the early 2000s when all games needed to have dark broody tortured protagonists except they're also now extending it to the game design and game world. Which, in all honestly, I'm not enjoying.
After all, you can still make gut-punching emotional games and still have a beautiful world to admire!
True, don't go the route of Thor: Love and Thunder but it doesn't need to be another cookie-cutter stale grey world.

Round 1C
Tumblr media
Toonami: Enjoy the ride. Toonami is a television programming block and brand that originated on Cartoon Network in 1997. It's known for its distinctive focus on action-oriented animated series, primarily targeting older children, teenagers, and young adults; it introduced a generation of viewers to the decade’s most popular anime, namely Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Naruto and Gundam Wing when broadcasting during the weekday afternoons and evenings, and others like Ghost in the Shell or Full Metal Alchemist during its affiliation with Adult Swim. Hosted by a future-nostalgia fueled robot called TOM (Toonami Operations Module), the block created a unique viewing experience via its space-themed aesthetic and motivational or dry-humored interstitial segments. Toonami has since become a beloved part of animation-focused pop culture, and its impact on the promotion of anime and adult animated action series in the west is significant.
Final Fantasy VII: Alexa, play One-Winged Angel. Final Fantasy VII is a landmark Japanese role-playing video game (or JRPG) released by Square Enix in 1997. Singing and dancing to save the universe
SPACE CHANNEL 5 , the second episode of the new sensory music beat genre game developed by SEGA and UGA, is now available on PS2 and DC during the Chinese New Year. In the game, the player plays a TV reporter, using her singing and dancing skills to stop aliens from invading the universe, and the enemy of this episode is a mysterious organization leading a group of small black machines "Dancing Troupe (Rhythm Rouges)".
REPORT 1 - The crisis reignites
One day, a cruise ship called Space Symphony was passing over Pluto when a giant black unidentified flying object suddenly approached the ship, and then a group of small robots appeared and walked inside the ship, emitting some strange lights that made the passengers dance. The television station "Channel 5", which received this event, immediately asked the reporter ULALA to go there to make a live report. ...... When it comes to the gameplay, it is basically the same as the previous episode. At the beginning of "Dance Battle", the opponent's Icon will be seen at the bottom left of the screen, then the player needs to write down the opponent's movements and rhythms, and then when the Icon changes, she needs to make the same movements and rhythms as the opponent, With the same action and festival, you will hear a special sound if you succeed, and of course you will hear the sound of "blowing soda" if you fail. Just repeat this action until everyone is rescued and you will pass the game.
The mysterious enemy "Dancing Troupe" has spotted the target...
Passengers enjoying space travel still know something is going to happen...
Make the same movements and rhythms as the other party
Those who are successfully rescued will join the ULALA train to help save the remaining passengers
The First characters

PURGE
The leader of the "Dancing Troupe (Rhythm Rouges)" who appeared at the beginning of the story. Why does he want to catch humans to dance? All this will be left to the player to solve in the game.
"PART 2" full of new elements
n the new episode, how can there be some new elements missing? In this episode, the input of length and strength will be added first, and the lyrics will be added below the dancing process. In addition, ULALA will play with the band during the dance, which greatly improves the atmosphere.

for @nosebleedclub's january prompts no. 16 — the grey coat with red lining.
the front door is brown. and the walls inside are a dry beige. your mother insisted that soft neutral colors look good for interior, but you never saw eye to eye with her about home aesthetics. the coat rack is thankfully black. the coat you use everyday is grey — although at the rate it's going, you won't be surprised if it's more the color of dust and the real grey of the material.
the office is half a city away and you commute everyday at five twenty, coming back just shy after nine. the grey coat is like a protective armor with a lot of history. your brother had a phase in highschool when he thought fashion was the only way of self-expression that was ever valid and bought a whole sewing machine. his first result, the fabrics from god-knows-where, is this battered grey coat. it's downright horrendous, worn and torn at the edges thanks to the amateur handicraft and the everyday use. the red lining on it clashes horribly against the base color — he said once it was a symbolism of one's immense passion rebelling against the system that forces everyone into molds and turns people into copies of robots, robots into copies of people. you've used this coat everyday for two years since you started working at the office.
your current job pays well. well enough to put food on the table. well, that's a lie. your mother puts the food on the table. your father passed away two years ago. your mother still cooks the same dishes she's always cooked, places the food atop of the same cracked ceramic plates she's always had, tells the same anecdotes of her sweet youth and your father's hardships through his life as she's always done. but you're the one who wins the bread to be cooked into toast every morning, even if your mother is the one who has to turn on the toaster and wash the dishes after you've gone off to work, even if your brother mourns and mourns and coops himself up in his room, ladden with grief, and your sister is too young to understand anything. in this sense, your current job pays well — well enough your mother doesn't have to look for another fulltime job, although she does take up knitting to sell some scarves, and well enough someone always has some time to place the dinner plate in front of your brother's door and well enough your sister can still grin a toothy smile everytime you buy her a new toy for christmas and tell her santa thinks she's a good child.
well enough for you to buy another coat.
it's hard to pinpoint why exactly you haven't bought one. on the online shopping platform you use nowadays, everything is cheaper when you know the tricks. soap and shampoo, frying oil, a new vacuum cleaners when the old one broke, canned tuna your sister maybe likes too much to be healthy, the tote bag you got for your best friend's birthday last january, the yarns for your mother. coupons, vouchers, discounts, sales, promotions — everything can be a trick utilized when you're in need or it can all also be a trick used on you, the needy. you've scrolled through dozens of coat options, all grey, without red linings and varying degrees less ugly than your current one. every time, your thumb hovers over the little cart icon and you hit the back button on your scratched phone screen.
there are other important things you could get instead. your shoulders sag with weight and your mind clears.
there are still other bills you need to pay. you go over the numbers when you wake up in the morning and once again when you're about to sleep in the night.
there are two siblings, one who still needs his time to slowly rise out of his cocoon, another one who is barely a budding sprout, a mere seed. there is one mother, smile lines visible and skin starting to dull, too old to be selling her soul to keep strangers warm in the winter.
these days, your eyes burn a lot and you wonder if you need to check it out or if it's that hard to admit that you always want to cry. the new coat can wait. the red lining is still strong, no matter how muddied the grey fabric is looking — it's not breaking anytime soon. it can hold the fort still a while longer, maybe you just need to sort out your priorities and budget a little tighter for now.

Title: Salt & Secrets
Author: abi cosmos
Artist: lotrspnfangirl
Rating: Explicit
Pairings: Castiel/Dean Winchester
Length: 35000
Warnings: Alcohol use. Depression.
Tags: Two person love triangle. Mutual pining. Online relationship. Human!Castiel. Canon divergent. Sub/dom undertones. Dean Winchester wears panties. Angst with a happy ending. Top Castiel/Bottom Dean Winchester. Hurt/Comfort.
Posting Date: October 5, 2022
Summary: Dean is lonely since Castiel became human. It’s been six months of throwing himself into cases, pining around the bunker, and radio silence between them. Charlie takes matters into her own hands, signing him up for a hunter’s networking website where he meets new hunter Steven. They hit it off, Dean enjoys helping him find his feet, and Steven seems to understand what Dean needs without ever having met him. It doesn’t take much to heat things up, but a new case brings Castiel back into his life, and Dean soons finds himself face-to-face with a little sin and one huge secret.
Excerpt: Charlie’s next mission is to get egg rolls and pizza, but when Dean gets to his feet, she presses a finger into his chest and pushes him back into his chair. "Not you. You fill out your profile so people don’t think you’re a bot, I’ll be back." "A bot?" Dean asks. "A robot." Charlie calls out, disappearing out of the kitchen with her car keys in hand and a swing in her step. She’s pleased with herself for this one.  Dean does what he’s told with a serious case of, What the hell am I doing? He ain’t putting his real name, but Charlie said that’s fine, instead he just fills out some generic info. He’s a dude. 30-39. Long time hunter. There’s an option to upload a photo. Dean scoffs; hell no. Finally, he checks his username: Scooby\D. Charlie had veto-ed his Impala suggestions for being too douchebag-dating app. He clicks save and is taken into a message board. Looking it over, he shakes his head with a huff.  Help with Latin translation! Ethics of killing the children of monsters Ammo for sale. Is my boyfriend really the king of the aliens? Best sharpening tools for axes Ghostfacers, are they in love? This was a mistake, he doesn’t need this. What’s he gonna find here? Nothing. He’s about to close the lid and grab a beer when he notices another question towards the bottom. The user is called Steven09, his ask is from two weeks ago and has zero replies. His account has no picture next to it, just a drawing of a salt shaker that matches Dean’s, the default icon, clearly. According to the little blurb below his name, he’s a guy, no age selected, but he’s a new hunter. Dean opens up the post. Does anyone know about cars?  Steven09, 16:23:  I need a vehicle, but unfortunately I have very limited knowledge. I would prefer it to be economically friendly and easy to park.  “Easy to park?” Dean mumbles to himself. “Buddy, if you can’t park then you can’t park.” He finds the reply button and a blank box below the original message opens out, encouraging him to use fonts and italics. Dean slowly types. Scooby\D, 15:57: I know something. You ever had a car before?  He reads it over, is he seriously gonna do this? Talk to some guy online about cars? On a freakin’ website for lonely hunters? "This is your fault, Charlie," he mumbles, pressing the button to post the reply and hurriedly shutting the lid.

what do you think of this alternate timeline where gen 4 of the rockafire gets released in the early 00's?
Rockin' into the New Millennium: Gen 4 Rockafire Explosion (Early 2000s)
In this alternate timeline, Creative Engineering Inc. unveils their most ambitious project yet: Gen 4 of the Rockafire Explosion in the early 2000s. This iteration explodes onto the scene, pushing the boundaries of animatronics and entertainment while staying true to the band's original spirit.
Technological Spectacle:
Servo Revolution: Gone are the limitations of hydraulics. Gen 4 boasts advanced servo motors and early AI, enabling lifelike movements, fluid dance routines, and expressive facial features.
Immersive Stage: Lasers, synchronized lighting, and interactive projections transform the stage into a multimedia extravaganza. The audience becomes part of the show, triggering effects and animations through touchscreens and voice commands.
Musical Evolution: The band's repertoire expands beyond classic rock, incorporating popular hits from the 2000s, remixing their own classics, and even dabbling in genre-bending mashups.
Holographic Collaborations: The show features special guest appearances, not just with live musicians, but also with holographic projections of iconic music legends, creating a mind-blowing visual experience.
Character Evolution:
Amplified Personalities: While retaining their core traits, the characters' quirks are cranked up to eleven. Billy Bob becomes the ultimate hype man, Looney Bird's inventions become even more outrageous, and Dook's spacey antics reach interstellar levels.
Dynamic Costumes: Their iconic looks get a modern makeover, incorporating trends of the early 2000s. Rolfe dons a hip-hop-inspired outfit, Mitzi rocks a colorful cheerleader uniform with a futuristic twist, and Fatz sports a bold new hairstyle.
Individual Showcases: Each character receives dedicated solo segments highlighting their unique talents and personalities. Fatz showcases his beatboxing skills, Rolfe pulls off impressive magic tricks, and Mitzi leads the audience in interactive dance routines.
Beyond the Stage:
National Tour: The Rockafire Explosion embarks on a nationwide tour, performing at major venues and children's festivals, captivating audiences across the country.
Interactive Website: A dedicated website allows fans to interact with the band virtually. They can vote on song requests, play online games featuring the characters, and even submit their own jokes and ideas for future shows.
Merchandise Mania: A wider range of merchandise is released, including plush toys with hidden voice chips that play iconic soundbites, video games featuring the band in interactive adventures, and behind-the-scenes documentaries showcasing the creation of Gen 4.
Showbiz Transformation: Showbiz Pizza undergoes a complete overhaul, becoming a themed entertainment complex. Interactive exhibits allow guests to learn about the history of the Rockafire Explosion and even create their own mini-animatronic characters.
But it doesn't stop there:
Animated Series: A new CGI-animated Rockafire Explosion series airs on popular channels, introducing the band's adventures and humor to a whole new generation of fans.
Theme Park Attraction: A dedicated Rockafire Explosion ride is built at a major theme park, transporting guests on a thrilling musical journey through the characters' world.
Charity Partnerships: The band partners with children's charities, donating proceeds from merchandise sales and even hosting special benefit concerts.
This is just a glimpse into the possibilities of Gen 4 Rockafire Explosion in the early 2000s. This timeline shows how the beloved characters could have evolved and adapted to a new era, staying relevant and engaging for a new generation of fans. What other exciting twists and turns would you like to see in this alternate timeline? Perhaps a virtual reality concert experience, a robotic pet version of Billy Bob, or even a Rockafire video game with interactive stories? The possibilities are endless!
Actually an interesting concept however this timeline does expand on what would happen if we were past Gen 2. Since this is in the early 2000’s I could see them sporting that cool look like CEC avenger era plus them expanding into theme parks is also and unique concept.

Why did G2 fail?
There’s a lot of conjecture in the Bionicle fandom over what killed G2.
For the G1 hardliners, it died because it wasn’t enough like G1, either in sets or story or both. For the grumpy, disenfranchised fans, it died because of Lego’s other themes. For the G2-faithful, there was nothing wrong with the theme itself, it was just the lack of marketing. For the fans who hate modern Lego specifically, licensed themes are to blame. For others, it’s just that toys aren’t really the thing kids love anymore.
But the exact reason why Lego chose to kill it early is something subject to constant speculation and I don’t really think any of them have the whole story, because I don’t think there’s a single reason.
1) Low Sales?
The most obvious suggestion is that G2 was simply a financial failure for a bevy of reasons. G2 simply failed to sell, and was cancelled as a result. Lego are just lying when they said they’re satisfied with its performance.
I don’t think this is the whole story, though.
For one, G2′s cancellation came down so quickly that it doesn’t really track with the theory. At the point where the decision to not produce the third year was made, G2′s first wave would only have been on shelves for a couple of months. And unless it bombed massively, I don’t think that was the case.
Instead, I think G2′s under-performance wasn’t the main reason for its death, but it was a good reason to not continue it.
2) Star Wars?
One of the major culprits suggested by fans is that Bionicle was simply unable to compete with Lego’s own Star Wars constraction sets, which were the hot new thing with the new movies coming out. Why would kids beg their parents for these weird robots when they could have all their favourite characters from the new Star Wars movies instead?
It’s a nice theory, and it fits well with the “Grrr, licensed lego bad!” mentality that a lot of Lego fans have these days. But I don’t really think it tracks.
I think it’s worth noting, after all, that the Star Wars constraction sets also failed. They were significantly more likely to succeed, being recognisable and in some cases, iconic characters, and in many respects they were better sets than the offerings from Bionicle G2.
And yet... they were also cancelled prematurely. In fact, they didn’t even manage to get their last sets out, with the AT-RT Clone Trooper and the B2 Super Battle Droid both getting the can before they were ever released.
If the SW constraction sets were selling like crazy and easily outcompeted Bionicle, they wouldn’t have also met an untimely end.
Another, more widely-appealing constraction theme running concurrently with Bionicle probably didn’t help either, but I doubt it was the driving factor behind Bionicle’s death.
3) Ninjas Ate My Budget
Around the same time that Bionicle was reborn, so was Ninjago, inarguably Bionicle’s successor as Lego’s main story theme.
Ninjago has been going on now for longer than Bionicle G1 did, and has gradually lost more and more of its identity, as Lego realise that, whatever ideas they come up with, it’s far more profitable to just staple it onto Ninjago.
D&D? Ninjago. VR videogames? Ninjago. The same cultural appropriation bullshit as 2001-02 Bionicle, this time featuring the Evil Natives trope? Ninjago!
At this juncture, Ninjago is less a “theme” and more a Frankenstein’s Monster of ideas stitched together from the corpses of other Lego properties I think it’s cannibalising Aquazone/Aqua Raiders next.
This is also around the point that Lego’s story themes stopped being three years/six waves, and started being 2.5 years/five waves. The implication is fairly obvious- themes like Nexo Knights, Hidden Side, etc, were all dying out earlier than usual because Ninjago was absorbing money from both consumers and Lego itself.
With that in mind, a lot of fans decided that Bionicle was another victim of Ninjago’s ravenous appetite, and had been deliberately underfunded by Lego, who needed more money to allocate to their proven money printer.
Is this true? Possibly?
There’s no denying that Lego’s other themes have suffered since Ninjago came back, and I’m pretty sure the only reason Monkie Kid’s surviving is that it blew up in China.
But do I think Lego deliberately let Bionicle die to focus on their new golden child? Probably not.
4) Movies.
This, I think, is the big one.
After the success of The Lego Movie, Lego began a massive expansion in what they were selling. Expecting a sales boom in response to the film’s runaway success, Lego were trying to capitalise on it.
Unfortunately... that didn’t really happen.
All those movie tickets did not translate to bought toys, and Lego had to downscale their reach in response. Bionicle G2 was just the most obvious casualty of this retreat.
Above all, I think this is the main reason why G2 died. The times match up, the reasons track with both what Lego said, and the way the line was perceived by the fandom.
