Transform and roll out with Robosen and Hasbro's "Elite Optimus Prime"
Transform and roll out with Robosen and Hasbro's "Elite Optimus Prime" #transformers
Robosen Robotics and Hasbro have announced they have once again collaborated to create an awe-inspiring, interactive Transformers robot – the new “Elite Optimus Prime.” Fans of the iconic franchise can now enjoy bringing to life the leader of the Autobots with this collectible robot featuring advanced programmable capabilities, voice-activated interactions and state-of-the-art auto-converting…
So, it's not secret that the company Robosen has had quite the rise in Transformers products here. They've got two versions of G1 Prime that transforms, a version of ROTB Prime that doesn't transform, a version of G1 Bumblebee that doesn't transform and a version of G1 Grimlock that does transform.
Now, what I am going to say is just for me personally. I don't really get who Robosen markets these towards? Like, your average Transformers collector is not going to be able to afford these. Their initial G1 Prime was $1000, the second smaller one was like $700-$800, pretty sure their movie Prime was around that price too, Bee is like $600-$700 and Grimlock is going to be $1500.
The other thing I question is like what does this bring to someone? Sure, some of them do the auto-converting thing and they all have a wealth of voice lines and sound effects and can do lots of different actions and movements, but that's just it. Even compared to some non-transforming stuff like the Yolopark and Flame Toys model kits, it just seems to me that these robots are not as tactile of a thing. I can go to my shelf and pick up my Gamer Edition Prime and can sit there putting it different poses or transform it yet several of these Robosen products can't even stand up in robot while not powered on and you obviously don't want to leave them on and drain the battery.
I personally put these in the same category as gunpla kits with LEDs and lightsabers, the kind of thing that I'll mess with initially and then subsequently really only show off when you have company over and that's really it.
Given that, I just don't see how these are really worth their high prices. Are they cool? Yes, but that's really it. Even if I could afford it, I personally would never buy one of these because, like I said, they're cool but ultimately not worth the price for something that would stay off and in the box until I wanted to show it off to someone.
And to think like in 2007-2010 they started out as a bunch of fans in China making shuffling Transforming Jeeps, trucks and had HOPED they would work with Hasbro. Now not only do they have an official Optimus, but a Buzz Lightyear.
Three years later, Hasbro’s self-transforming, dancing, driving, talking, and attacking Optimus Prime finally has a villain to fight. Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons, is about to arrive. For $1,200 — $899 through May 25th — its robot partner Robosen has created what could be the best auto-converting Transformer yet.
i am having Ideas and i think the only way i’d get any sufficient enjoyment out of Robosen’s transformers (purely hypothetically) would be to watch a team of Bots’ and Cons’ have a firefight in your living room. watching a staged battle between your collection would be pretty neat. like what Gundam Build does but purely theatrical
i'd say i'm surprised that they haven't done any decepticons to let people do exactly this, but i guess i'm kinda not? it's hard for them to do much with an automated toy robot that turns itself into a gun or a jet or a tape deck, compared to one that can turn into a little truck that rolls around on your carpet. but then again they did also just make a bumblebee that can't even transform, so who knows. i guess the autobots must just sell that much better, even though charging nostalgic gen Xers out the ass to have two little robots pantomime optimus and megatron's final battle from the original movie and say the voice lines seems like an extremely obvious play
