Years and years ago, as an art project, I started urban-combing, like beach-combing but on the streets around our neighbourhood. I’d then create pictures, shadow boxes and arrangements of my finds. It was quite a residential area with two schools so you always found lots of interesting lost objects and all sorts of colourful litter. We live in the countryside now. Today I had a flash back, when on our busy road with only one other house and no pavement, I found next to each other near the kerb - a tiny plastic dog and some wash care instructions written in Spanish. As you may have seen on my stories, last Saturday I found the bottom half of a silk thread reel display free (yes, free) from the curb down our road. It would have been used in a department store years ago. It had no top as it was previously double the height and the owners kept the top half. It needs lots of work but all those tiny drawers with glass fronts are perfect for organising and storing my treasures when my new studio is built. Then, today I drove past the same house and there is a butchers block counter top on the curb outside the same house which I nabbed because it’ll also work in the studio as a table top for my polisher. Only, it also fits this cabinet top exactly. What are the chances? Hey I think I'll make a YouTube video! Rehabing a desk I found in the back of a parking lot. Looks like it's mostly oak. But also has a butt ton of veneer. Redoing all the drawer bottoms and sanding the hell out of it. Did a little work on the top and I'm actually gonna just flip the top over and use the underside. Actually looks better also gonna add some trim around the edges. This desk is way cool. So old it has a typewriter apparatus of some kind. Couldn't figure it out. May or may not keep that part. Luckily for me the drawer dovetails weren't glued worth a crap. Easily popped them all apart to replace the bottoms. This things awesome!!
