The hum of the car on the road seemed to change to something that feels like anticipation. Or maybe it’s just because they get to paving the roads near civilization a lot more than the ones in the desert.

Robin glances at Max in the backseat. She’s tapping her finger to whatever Top-40 song is on the radio now, but mostly she’s staring out the window she has open and smiling, which is something you don’t see often on Max unless it’s accompanied with something sarcastic.
