I'ts sakurathon weekend! 🌸
Once more a TNP's event making my ideas come to life and this one features Rin's hair, lost hair ties, Haru being obsessed with Rin and both of them just being very much in love.
It's silly and my headcanons are showing as always and I had a lot of fun writing this so I'm very very happy to share it for this year's sakurathon!
Five times Rin's hair bothers him and one time it bothers Haru.
Or six times a lovesick (and sometimes horny) Haru helps Rin tie his hair.
If you allow me, here's one of my favorite sentences:
Rin saying his name through a breathy not-quite-but–halfway-there-moan goes straight to his groin and way past his head.

this story was born because i was reflecting, sadly, about how my late mother started forgetting me towards the end of her life. it was so harrowing, so, so painful, being forgotten. i had a friend who experienced a motorcycle accident and had amnesia for a period of time too, and seeing him so disoriented and lost was hard.
so i channeled that sadness into writing this fic, with rin and haru at the heart of the story, and rin's grief being the crux of the plot. i can't wait to get started on its sequel, but it will take some time. life has been challenging lately.
on the bright side, all the comments i've received have been very encouraging! i'm so glad people could feel rin's pain as they read the story, and feel hopeful for them moving forward. i always reply to comments, because i like acknowledging what my readers feel and think, and letting them know the inspirations behind my writing.
this comment in particular and my reply to it took me back to feeling that grief, but in a cathartic way.
but yes, thank you to everyone who's read and left kudos and comments. during a tough time in my life, these little things keep me going.

"Trick or—" Rin's voice freezes in his throat when the door opens half a second later, empty pillowcase dangling from the hand that hadn't been pressing against the door bell, "—treat…dude, where's your costume?"
Haru drops his gaze down his own body and back up to Rin's face, a hint of confusion glinting in his deceptively deadpan gaze, "This is my costume."
"Dressing up in your own swim gear doesn't count, Haru," Rin shakes his head, already grabbing Haru's hand, "come on, let's go back to my place so you can borrow one of mine."

Kisumi and Sousuke turned towards him with furrowed eyebrows and confused eyes.
It was Sousuke who answered his questioning stare, “Do you like the guy or not? Make up your mind, Rin.”
“What?! I don’t like Nanase’s presumptuous ass, I was just pointing out a fact.”
Objectively, Rin could admit—to himself, very silently—that it was a nice looking ass, but a presumptuous one nonetheless.
Or the Hidaka AU no one asked for, in which Rin never got into competitive swimming and he swears to God if Nanase looks up at him with stupidly blue eyes and infuriating little smirk again, he might just strangle the asshole.
It was so fun writing this and I have to thank my partner for giving me the most beautiful inspiration for it, I hope you enjoy!

“ Find me .”
Everything around him was a dark, pitch-black and the unfamiliar voice echoed from so many directions it was impossible to tell where it was coming from.
“ Find me .”
He reached out blindly, grabbing at nothing, and feeling his heart race as a desperation clawed at him, unwilling to let go.
“ Find me… Rin.”
Red eyes opened suddenly to the surrounding darkness as he finally took in that he was free falling into the deep end, the water pulling him down, down, down.
Rin gasped and righted himself, spinning in a circle to take in his surroundings and determine yes, it was just a dream.
But it was the same dream he kept having, again and again.
Rin’s tail and fins were flowing, a bright red that stood out in the darkness of the deep ocean. The pattern wasn’t one he recognized, with its lines crossing and twisting, winding this way and that.
He hissed and started swimming as quickly as he could back to his pod.
That had also been happening a lot lately.
