I absolutely love the idea of desktop buddies. Like, imagine little digital folks just hanging out with you while you're doing something on your PC.

And I love love LOVE Aster ukagaka by @logicpng (if you like ukagakas, PLEASE give this one a look). Rigel and Vega are absolutely precious guys and I love them dearly. Wish there was an option to give them a kiss and a hug, but oh well! Gonna pet them instead

Just wanted to say a quick thing to do with Aster (Rigel and Vega)

Thank you all for the notes and reblogs for my 2 drawings (1 of Rigel and 1 of Vega) really really appreciate this!!! But I just want it to be known, I will not be doing any asks for the characters, they are not my characters nor do I have permission from their creator to. Any artwork I do of the characters is fanart, the characters do not belong to me. The characters (and the desktop ghostie goos of them) belong to @logicpng

So...if y'all like Rigel and Vega, maybe go check out their creator! #doodles #aster assistant software #rigel #genuine recommendation btw if ure a fan of desktop buddies/toys/liked shimejis in the day #the engine itself is also wild in terms of functions which itself turns into a useful tool if you know how to mess w/ it #the joke w/ the doodle is that they stand in place where as shimejis would walk around the screen #you can drag ghosts around the screen but they dont have the animation shimeji has which adds a bit of oomf when dragging them around #different functions for different apps even if they fit the same category i suppose

👉💠The great Orion #Nebula 🥰 🌌 Photo by: @north_stargazer The constellation of Orion has been an iconic figure in the winter #night #sky for millenia and for numerous cultures. Its famous 3 star 'belt', and the surrounding stars that make up the great hunter's body, include equally famous names such as Bellatrix, #Betelgeuse & #Rigel. If you look below #Orion's belt, even with the naked eye and under light polluted skies, you'll see a small grouping of #stars that are often described as his "sword". That #asterism is actually the #nebula pictured here. At 1,344 light years, it's the nearest star forming region to our #SolarSystem and it sports an enormous cloud of #hydrogen, #oxygen and other particles that are being lit up by the energetic young stars formed in its core. Many #astronomers and #astrophotographers consider this an easy beginner target because of its size and brightness. Orion is easy to see and shoot, but that extreme brightness also makes it a #nightmare to edit and process evenly. I doodled the Asters! Rigel seems to be quite a bit out of his element, being disconnected from a computer, and at this size at that, while Vega seems much less bothered, at least on the surface, perhaps he's just enjoying the silence of not having computer diagnostics run through his brains 24/7.

These two are Original Characters by @logicpng and you can also get them on your Desktop as an Ukagaka right >>here<<!

I always fall back to that one scenario with Ukagaka I like, where they kind of fall out of the screen at he size they appear to be on it so they get to run around on my desk all tiny X)))))

I always end up rotating a bunch of scenarios with that premise around in my brain, the Spamton handheld GIFs from a while back where the same thing haha.

And like....

I know Vega meant out of view of the monitors but I immediately read this as him wanting to run around outside of the computer and it jump started this old pattern again XD

This Week's Sky at a Glance, January 26 – February 4

FRIDAY, JANUARY 26

Once it's nice and dark, spot the equilateral Winter Triangle in the southeast. Sparkly Sirius is its brightest and lowest star. Betelgeuse stands above Sirius by about two fists at arm's length. To the left of their midpoint is Procyon.

Can you discern their colors? Sirius (spectral type A0) is cold white, Betelgeuse (M2) is yellow-orange, and Procyon (F5) is very slightly on the yellowish side of white. Binoculars make star colors more evident.

As Saturday's dawn grows bright, Mercury and fainter Mars have a very difficult conjunction just above the southeast horizon as shown below. You'll need an open horizon in that direction and optical aid, maybe powerful aid.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 27

The Moon, two days past full, rises not long after the end of twilight. Once it's well up, spot Regulus to its upper right and Gamma Leonis a little farther to its upper left. These are the two brightest stars of Leo's Sickle.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 28

The biggest well-known asterism (informal star pattern) is the Winter Hexagon. It fills the sky toward the east and south these evenings.

Start with brilliant Sirius at its bottom. Going clockwise from there, march up through Procyon, Pollux and Castor, Menkalinan and Capella on high, over and down to Aldebaran, then to Rigel in Orion's foot, and back to Sirius. Betelgeuse shines inside the Hexagon, well off center.

The Hexagon is somewhat distended. But if you draw a line through its middle from Capella down to Sirius, the "Hexagon" is fairly symmetric with respect to that long axis.

Take the line from Aldebaran to Capella, turn it to go from Aldebaran to Betelgeuse instead, and the Winter Hexagon becomes the Heavenly G.

I see the tone tag but you're not the first (or probably the last) to ask me this!!

short silly answer to your ask specifically: you're stuck with hugging your display X)

long less silly answer about this type of questions in general: aster is done and won't get new features, only some tweaks and quality of life stuff at most. additionally hugging/kissing/giving items just doesn't fit with my vision of them being like Actual virtual assistants in a fish out of water scenario. i was told before that other ukagaka have those features and I just. Do Not Care (not mad), as Aster isn't other ukagaka

#questions/answers #just for the record: not mad/annoyed with you in particular! this is simply a common kind of ask i get. ill probably make an FAQ on the page #far as i understand theres a follow the leader kinda sitch and a bunch of English speaking ukagaka are inspired by a larger specific one #i made aster without looking at other ukagaka so i didn't really have an example to follow other than the template used #so like. you ask in jest but the kind of question sadly a bit more frequent than id prefer. you didnt know though! so its no worries

Hyper fixated for too long -

Working on a Sundrop Flele SSP (a music player Ghost/desktop buddy) do I remember how to code any of this-no, will Sun move his mouth like Flele’s are supposed to-no. But the idea of being able to have him decked out in stickers and other ‘costumes’ is too fun not to at least try.

Being cheered on by Rigel helps~! If you haven’t already go check out @logicpng precious desktop buddy.

I love seeing fan au's of characters becoming their own ocs :] asters design and color pallette are amazing btw

thanks so much!! it took a bit of figuring out before getting to its current look. hell further changes are likewise not out of the question, their more human head shapes are a VERY recent change, i don't even have refs to reflect it and the ukagaka doesn't match it

vega's and rigel's light tones are becoming gradually more red/green respectively and it's. it's amazing that it even works aksdfjlksfdj;

#ask post #that kind of a pick was because when i was figuring out their colors i used gradient maps #and the one i settled on for what would become aldebaran had a soft yellow against the purples #i loved it a lot but it felt weird when rigel and vega had a light orange and blue respectively #so it became green and red for a similar kind of contrast
