The Moon
The most ridiculously detailed" image of Earth's lunar neighbor was a two-year project captured by two astrophotographers.
The 174-megapixel image, which shows the moon's colors, craters and glowing aura in stunning detail, was first revealed on Reddit on Saturday. Through Reddit and Instagram, Andrew McCarthy, known for his breathtaking astrophotography skills, teamed up with planetary scientist and fellow photographer Connor Matherne, who has been acclaimed for his striking and vibrant photos of galaxies and nebulae.
The two previously worked together to create an incredible glowing and detailed image of the moon.

For astrophotographers and stargazers, darkness is critical. The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is a United States-based non-profit created in 1988 to preserve and protect our endless dark skies.Major cities cause most light pollution, drastically reducing our chances of seeing millions of stars in the night sky. Sadly, most Americans cannot see the Milky Way from their home, and that’s a direct reflection of artificial light sources dimming our skies. So where are the best stargazing places?

👉💠The great Orion #Nebula 🥰 🌌 Photo by: @north_stargazer The constellation of Orion has been an iconic figure in the winter #night #sky for millenia and for numerous cultures. Its famous 3 star 'belt', and the surrounding stars that make up the great hunter's body, include equally famous names such as Bellatrix, #Betelgeuse & #Rigel. If you look below #Orion's belt, even with the naked eye and under light polluted skies, you'll see a small grouping of #stars that are often described as his "sword". That #asterism is actually the #nebula pictured here. At 1,344 light years, it's the nearest star forming region to our #SolarSystem and it sports an enormous cloud of #hydrogen, #oxygen and other particles that are being lit up by the energetic young stars formed in its core. Many #astronomers and #astrophotographers consider this an easy beginner target because of its size and brightness. Orion is easy to see and shoot, but that extreme brightness also makes it a #nightmare to edit and process evenly. This was captured from light polluted Bortle 8 backyard using an 80mm refractor, an ASI2600MM cooled #astro #camera and 3nm narrowband filters. #Magicofscience https://www.instagram.com/p/CfBRt94LKHp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Recent pictures! Both are of the northern hemisphere during the winter solstice, taken at different times.
Both the star cluster Pleiades and the planet Jupiter can be clearly seen in the first photo!

I think this edit is better than the last, still not perfect. Also I guess I have a watermark now too, won’t ask anyone to follow me anywhere cause I haven’t figured out what else to do or where else to upload really. I have an instagram but I hate how they compress images so astrophotos in particular look pretty shit over there. PS. I bet Andromeda will be even easier to find in this photo.

Betelgeuse & Rigel, look at the colors. The one on the bottom is the brightest star in our night sky, Sirius.
One is read, one is blue, which is accurate.
Astrophysics is cool.
