Pick An Image: Message From Your Inner Child

Pick whichever image you feel called to, the one you can’t stop looking at.

Group 1: Swan

Cards pulled: Queen & King of Pentacles, 7 of Cups, 7 of Swords, 2 of Pentacles reversed, 4 of Wands, The Hanged Man.

Your Inner Child is often indulged. Perhaps too often. You have all the material things you desire, but your inner world feels lacking. You have forgotten the mystique and intrigue of life, and the wonder that accompanies living in this vast, beautiful world. Your Inner Child is most proud of you for protecting yourself. You aren’t afraid to stand up for yourself and speaking out against those who have wronged you (especially your parents). You have a self assuredness that protects your inner child and makes them feel secure.

Your lack of balance is what confuses your inner child most. Again, the suit of pentacles pops up here. You are so focused on the material aspects of living in this world (having the best clothes, food, appearance, etc.) and it’s not aligning with who your truest self. It’s not wrong to want nice things or to have material desires, but your inner child craves something more in the spiritual sense. Find a way to play again. Find a way to celebrate and enjoy the act of living. Spend time with guided meditations, specifically for connecting with your inner child. You’ve dwelt in the outer world long enough; it’s time to look within.

Your inner child is brilliant! What a lovely and happy little one, who seems to have everything and feels totally fulfilled. They crave activity and action. The more active you are, the happier your Inner Child is.

Your Inner Child is so proud of your beauty, your grace, and your ability to handle strong emotions. They also appreciate your home and the scenery you surround yourself with.

The way you speak confuses your Inner Child. Perhaps sometimes your words are too harsh or untrue to your alignment. They wish you would think about the words you use and are sometimes hurt by your language.

To become more aligned with your Inner Child, you need to let go of your addiction(s)/negative coping habits you’ve picked up (alcohol seems to be something you may indulge in too frequently for your Inner Child’s liking). You don’t need this addiction to be social or happy. In fact it is what is keeping you from reaching true happiness and fulfilling your potential. Say no to that inner voice that says “Just this once, it’s okay”.

Your Inner Child feels blocked, Group 3. They feel trapped and unable to reach you. You’ve become serious and hardworking, but lack the free flowing social connections your child-self thrived on. You have been through so much pain and hardship--sometimes you felt like you couldn’t go on, yet somehow kept pushing through. Your Inner Child is immensely proud of you for being able to survive everything that’s happened. Your survival is the source of their joy and pride. There was so much suffering and sorrow, but you made it. Your strength and ability to carry on is awe-inspiring.

Your Inner Child is most confused by your generosity. Perhaps you did not have much as a child and the fact that you are able to give your time, energy, and spirit to others in need feels really confusing. It’s not a negative confusion, but a general feeling of “How am I able to do this when I was not taught this as a child? When I was never given these things?”

How you can connect with your Inner Child: focus on becoming more social. Make friends and put yourself out there! Do things that excite you or frighten you...your Inner Child craves an adrenaline rush every once in a while. That scary-fun feeling of butterflies in the pit of your stomach while riding a roller coaster. Spark the excitement back into your life :) .

Tarot Cards as Writing Prompts

This is an idea I’ve been playing with for awhile, and maybe some of you are already doing it. The examples I’m using are from the standard Rider-Waite deck, but I’ve also been looking at favorite images from other decks, like the Robin Wood Tarot or the Dark Wood Tarot. If you don’t pay attention to the meanings, the images are fascinating for other reasons – with a little imagination, they can be used as writing prompts.

As an example, look at the Five of Cups: a cloaked man stares down at three overturned goblets on the road. Two more goblets stand behind him. Is he sad, or angry? Do those cups belong to him, or someone else? Did he spill the three overturned ones, or did someone else? Did the cups contain something dangerous or magical?

Look at the Six of Swords. The swords stand upright in a boat, which is being pushed by a man with a pole. A cloaked figure and a child sit in the boat. Where are they going? Are the figures a mother and child, or just two random passengers? Are they traveling somewhere, or escaping from somewhere? Do the swords belong to them?

As a last example, look at #16, The Tower. What is this structure? Is it part of a castle, a prison, or something else? Is the lightning strike part of a storm, or is it a magical attack? Who are the falling people – were they imprisoned in the tower, or did they live there?

If you’re dealing with writer’s block, or a lack of ideas, you can try this with other cards. Put aside the standard divinatory meaning of the card, and just study the image; does it suggest a story, or several stories? You could try keeping a journal with notes about what story ideas the cards give you. Try it with the same card from different decks for more inspiration. Have fun with it!

Welcome to Ace of Cups Tarot!

I’m Sandy Settle. I’m a writer and a Tarot reader. I’ve been reading cards for 10+ years, a practicing Pagan for longer. I use many Bohemian-style decks (based on the Rider-Waite-Smith deck) and oracle decks. Full list of decks I use is available upon request after you pay for a reading.

I reserve the right to deny a reading at any time for any reason. I block as I see fit. After the reading is sent, there are no refunds.

A three-card reading (Past, Present, Future) is a $30 flat fee. I transact via Venmo @sandymsettle. Money must be sent before the reading is done (labeled as a “donation”). I will process the funds after the reading is sent via messages. Beyond a basic three-card, I read intuitively, so I do not follow a pre-set “spread”/organization. All readings above three cards start at $40.

I do not do live/video readings of any kind at this point. I simply don’t have time. All readings will generally be sent to you via Ask/messaging on Tumblr or, if you prefer, via Fiverr.

Please be warned that a Tarot reading can be an extremely personal and sometimes emotionally challenging experience. It’s important to try to ground yourself before a reading and make sure you are open to whatever Source wants to tell you. Practice measured breathing, meditate, drink liquids, and calm your mind. I am merely a conduit for whatever that information is, I do not decide what the cards say. I am a messenger. I am not personally responsible for any emotional distress the reading may cause.

The Knight of Swords

Swords stand for the intellect, logic, clarity, and truth. The Knight of Swords charges towards his aims with a singular focus. This knight bears similarities to the Knight of Wands- they are both bursting with energy and ambition. What sets them apart is the focus. The energy in the Knight of Wands is not directed at anything in particular; the Knight of Swords maintains a narrow focus on his goals. This knight wakes up at four in the morning to hit the gym, day trades on the side, and is definitely investing in crypto. He is optimizing his eating with a fad diet you haven’t yet heard of, and can tell you exactly how many grams of protein he’s had today.

This focus and drive can be an incredible strength - sometimes it’s nothing less than what is needed to make your dreams a reality. But too much focus on the end goal can lead to tunnel vision, and missing other possibilities, factors, or important priorities in life. The Knight of Swords sometimes needs to be dragged out of the house to see his friends, or requires the occasional reminder to not be a dick. He may even realize, after much struggle, that he doesn’t actually want that thing he was pursuing so endlessly. Burnout is another potential issue. This sort of singular focus may not be sustainable in the long run.

With wits, ambition, and a clear vision for the future, this knight may seem like a catch – but whether he can step away from the hustle long enough to maintain a relationship is a different story.

All that being said, the Knight of Swords can be a powerful driving force to give you the burst of resolve you need to obtain your goals.

Reversed

The Knight of Swords reversed may be so consumed by his ambitions that he has made rash and unwise choices, or disregarded other people’s feelings. Or, this could indicate someone who has a goal in mind, but has not yet mustered the drive, discipline, and focus necessary to achieve it. Another possible meaning could be that the Knight of Swords has finally burned out after so much laser focus, or perhaps has become disillusioned with his goals. Balance is called for.

シャッフルやカット、いつまでたっても上手くならない。ポロポロこぼすし、バラバラになるし。私の手が小さいせいだと思うことにしています。トランプカードならまあまあ、上手くシャッフルできるのです。サイズの小さいタロットデッキも持っているけれど、絵柄をよく観察したいからレギュラーサイズの方を使っています。デッキによっては巨大なものあるけれど、ああいうものは観賞用なのかしら。それとも、エンターテイナー向けにいいかもしれない。巨大なカードは迫力があって面白いとは思う。
