Будучи больной она рисует и подписывает свои рисунки как ДоВиМа(первые слоги ее полного имени). К 18 годам болезнь отступает, и случайная встреча у лифта, меняет её жизнь. Довима начинает сниматься для таких журналов как «Glamour», «Vogue», «Harper’s Bazaar». Грациозная, хрупкая, аристократичная и от природы стройная девушка быстро приобретает большую популярность и становится одной из самых высокооплачиваемых супер моделей, обладательницей самой тонкой талией среди моделей 1950-х годов. По некоторым данным объем талии составял всего 48 см при росте 176 см. В августе 1955 года Ричард Аведон, мастер fashion фотографий, по природе революционер, фотографирует супер модель для рекламы новой коллекции Christian Dior-а в парижском цирке. На модели элегантное длинное чёрное платье от кутюрье и , одна из первых работ 19-летнего Ив Сан Лорана, нового ассистента Диора. До1962 года Довима продолжала работать в качестве супер модели, однако во время съёмки для журнала Harper's Bazar она объявила Аведону о том, что это ее последняя съёмка. Так она поступила по совету друга,который ей сказал покинуть свою карьеру на пике популярности. В 1990 году ДоВиМа скончалась от рака. Довима снялась в фильме "Забавная Мордашка" в роли Марион. Кстати, фотография «Довима и слоны» занимает 14 место в рейтинге самых дорогих фотографий в мире.
