the incredible divide between how people rank the seasons of daredevil based on whether or not they know that foggy (and more importantly, foggy's smile) is by far the best thing to happen to the MCU or if they simply hate fun and love
#seasons 2 and 3 of daredevil chose violence#they ran with the wrong elements of s1 and amplified those to the detriment of the good elements (foggy & karen & matt's friendship)#like genuinely some of THEE most disappointing sequel seasons#and yet! go in the tag and some people just loved them#like ok. i love foggy nelson and his besties karen and matt though. brooding means NOTHING to me if its not a part of angsty relationship#rough patch that gets resolved within a few episodes#back in like 2015 i watched dd s1 like 10 fucking times. i watched s2 once when it came out and i dont think i ever even finished s3#(ftr i am NOT a marvel fan anymore ive just been rewatching jessica jones s1 for some reason)#(its much darker than i remembered!)#tw mcu#lmao#foggy nelson

So I was rewatching the DD s2 preview cause it seemed interesting and I noticed a few things:
1. There's a lot of colors, red and yellow and even orange (if the latter has any symbolism I'm not sure)
2. Daryl starts shooting and the other guy says "Dixon!" which might be a recall to Beth in "Still" - - "yes mr Dixon"
3. Maybe not important idk but Daryl shoots everyone in the head
4. At the beginning of the preview there's the guy in the window signaling to Daryl with his hands "3" ofc he meant there were 3 vehicles approaching but it also reminded me of the trunk where Beth & Daryl hid in the opening of "Still"
5. Maybe doesn't mean anything but DD s2 is being released in the Summer, and in "Still" it was so obviously Summer time.
6. Probably the most important one, at the very beginning on the right there's a building/house with a red sign saying: "peut-on se dire, on se verra" at least that's what I managed to read.. Anyway I asked Chatgpt to translate and it's pretty interesting:
The phrase translates to "can we say, we will see each other" in English
I asked if it has other meanings and it said this:

after finals, i want to finally watch s3 of daredevil
BUT
i need advice
cause during summer i dived into defenderverse
and got tired after jessica jones s2,
and stopped entirely after the first episode of luke cage s2
so i did all the watching JUST SO I COULD WATCH S3 and got tired of it before even seeing it so i'm dissapointed
to be clear : i watched defenders and i know matt "died" and i know that dd s3 starts with him waking up in church or something. so it's not like i'm that clueless. as i've said, i watched defenderverse until luke cage s2.
WITHOUT SPOILERS ABOUT S3! tell me what you think about defenderverse and how you watched it. give me tips or point to certain scenes from defenderverse i shoudl still rewatch if i end up not rewatching it entirely.
also let me point this out : i have never seen more than one episode of iron fist and i'm not planning to ever watch it. it was atrociously painful

Farscape rewatch - Eat Me, 2x06
Eat Me, despite being the closest Farscape came to sheer horror, is not as nihilistic as DD. It does freak me out the most though. When Pilot of that ship screams “they are eating me” - god. That whole ep is one I like to watch with the lights on.
I love that when John thinks D’Argo and Chiana are dead, he goes all out mad, blusteringly and loudly and definitely so. He doesn’t get scared in general (unless it’s few very specific things) he gets angry.
And the thing is, in his last fight with Kaarvoc, he was not fighting for survival - he did not know Chi and D’Argo were alive and found what they needed; what he was fighting for was dying his own way (during the ship exploding as it tries to starburst) and the way that the horrific world he’s been thrust in has taught him that even dying your own way, the way you choose, is a triumph (in s2 he could not manage even that) is - so bleak and so on brand. He will fight even beyond hopelessness, even if he knows he will die, to go out on his own terms.
Of course, this ep starts the heart-breaking ‘Two Johns’ arc and really addresses the issue of what makes one’s self. Because the two Johns are not an original and clone. They are two equals, two Crichtons. Identical (as the scene with rock paper scissors shows). And there is no easy out.
There is no such comfort for the crew as to think that the other was a copy because they themselves feel like ‘me.’ Not when they see the evidence. Chi is good at repressing though. Her terrified denial gets me here (and D’Argo’s wondering that even if one is a clone, how does he know he, the surviving D is not a copy?) This really IS a season of death.
The scenes with the mad people eating the Leviathan (and OMG, John shooting at them, YES), and perpetually cutting off Pilot’s arms to eat and waiting till regeneration and cutting them off again? Horrifying beyond measure.
And John, so angry, so mad, so trying to figure it all out that any desire for help is swallowed by the horror, to wait for later time. Every time he thinks he’s plumbed the horrors of the Universe and there is no further bottom, something comes to prove him wrong. And it strikes me so hard in this episode how far kindness and gentleness has been burned out of him. Look at this scene, look at him demanding and snarling at the poor defenseless Pilot of this ship who’s a torture victim who’s begged for death and has his arms eaten over and over again. Because any compassion is blocked by horror which is blocked by drive and anger and desire to survive. He paused for a moment of horror when he found out, and it’s clear he feels loathing for the monsters who perpetrate it, but none of it gets in the way of his drive and this John is much more efficient and effective and terrifying than the one at the start of s1, but his humanity is so much more tattered and his kindness is basically gone. This is a hell of a dark character arc.
And Kaarvoc, probably the scariest villain ever because he is completely mad and completely insane and seriously, the world that he has created is horror without end.
I love Jool as the comic relief, of course. No one cares if she dies, though they do protect her, and as the audience member, my main interest in her are the wacky things happen to her, a sort of relief that this time it’s something comically bad, not gut-rippingly awful happening to a character you love. And that sums up how dark the show can get - the comic relief is bad stuff happening to a character you don’t like instead of the ones you do.

So idk if this has been said before or if it may be a reach but I was rewatching the shed scene from s2 where they have possessed Will tied up and Joyce, Jon and Mike are telling him these happy memories and shit and I was wondering if it maybe could serve as Will having powers proof?
Cause when he wakes up he starts screaming "let me go!!" over and over and the lights start to flicker like crazy, so we're supposed to think that's the mind flayer/vecna/whatever doing it. But the lights flicker in a way that kiiinda resembles morse code? So what if the part of Will that was still there was trying to do morse code by flickering the lights with his powers (trying to communicate by them as he did in s1) but realizing that he can't control them properly bc of a mix between not knowing how to control his powers fully/being possessed/vecna trying to stop him/him basically panicking, etc? And then he tries to do it with his fingers after the whole happy memories thing when it actually works
And of course, just as he didn't remember having the power to control the lights on the UD during s1, he doesn't remember controlling the lights there either cause idk cons of being possessed and shit
So yeah this might be a reach or something but idk I wanted to hear your thoughts on it

This is absolutely BRILLIANT, I never even considered that, the fact that you noticed that the flickering lights resemble Morse code blows my mind!!
I definitely think everything you’ve said here is plausible, and it fills a gap for me, because I always wondered why they not only showed the flickering lights in the shed, but also the lights flickering inside of the byers house- they may have been trying to draw a parallel between the shed scene lights flickering vs the season 1 lights flickering, both having been done via Will’s powers. And I especially think that what you’ve said makes sense because powers seem to be dictated by emotions in some circumstances (ie el breaking the windows during her fight with hopper), so Will’s high emotions could have been what triggered his powers at that moment. And it also makes sense that he wouldn’t remember using his powers because yknow. posssesed + the fact that he seemingly doesn’t remember using them in the upside-down in s1.
What you said about will saying “let me go,” also sparked a thought for me- what if there’s a double meaning to that? What if it’s not just the mindflayer (via possessed will) yelling at joyce and everyone to let him go, but also will yelling at the mindflayer to let him go, hence why he also uses his powers in that moment. Which would parallel to the scene where will initially got possessed on the field + took bob’s advice and started yelling at the mindflayer to leave him alone.
But yeah, I think this is brilliant and it makes sense!!! I love it!!!!!

2x02. Now that I started watched s2, how do I peel myself off the screen and do things irl? Lol. I'm already glued to this season.
Alina standing behind Mal's back to kind of shield him is so sweet?
I don't understand though, Nikolai IS the king, no? I remember this pretense when he met Kaz. He was honored to meet the Bastard of the Barrel. But what is going on here & why does no one recognize him? Sure, he worked hard to build him reputation, but I'm a bit confused. (Which won't make me pick up the books about Nikolai again, lol. I was done with it the first time.)
It's been a hot minute & I'm already tired of this Mal/Alina/Darkling triangle. Especially when I remember that Darkling is supposed to be a grow ass adult, way older than Alina, and both Alina and Mal are supposed to be teens. Like, my dude, what did you find there? I'd never want to deal with a teen, and definitely not pine after her. Fast forward, "My Alina." DUDE. WAKE UP. What are you, five?
Hmmm? Hmmm. I can twist it into "He keeps her safe no matter how painful that is for him", which would be fun. The acknowledgment of her being terrified of it all, though.
Genya looks kind of weird this season. I feel like it's the wig.
No but the details. The clothes. Oh, I doubt we'll see the masquerade, but I'd LOVE to see it. It was such a fun scene in the book.
Oooh. That is GOOD. As much as I'd love the crows to have their own show and see CK page by page being shown to us, I didn't think they'll go there. Aside from Jordie giving me Sam Drake vibes, this is a nice visual. Though I believe they were younger in the book?
Speaking of, are we getting Wylan's backstory or? The way he slept in that cold and dirty bed, basically waiting to die? Bc rn Wylan is kind of doing alright? A bit hungry, but alright.
Oooh, Kaz sitting down next to Jesper? I like that. Honestly, if he sees a bit of Jordie in Jesper, it's basically trust. "I'm safe with you. I trust you with my life. You make mistakes, but..."
And THAT is where she becomes Kaz's friend. Their relationship in the book. <3
The "It's not enough to kill him" scene, though. The looks Inej, Jesper, and Nina give him. I rewatched it at least 3 times & WOW.
I love her and her personality SO. MUCH. If she was portrayed by a fatter actress, she would've been a perfect adaptation from books to tv screen.

Ooooh, Matthias remembering Nina, all the touches, the soft lips. Blaming himself, hating her, but also loving her and wanting her. *sigh* Yeeeah. That's a good adaptation as well. Though I still struggle see Matthias in this actor. Matthias was different.

Inej is a badass, but I absolutely hate when she becomes like that. "You gotta tell me. You can keep the others in the dark, but not me." Ughhh.

Idk why it took me so long to actually understand Matt in season 2. The first time watching that season I was mainly like “oh. Oh no. Oh man. Wait do I love Frank Castle. Oh that sucks big time.” But after the let’s not count rewatch of the show;
He literally tries to be everything for everyone to help and please everyone. He is pulled in so many different directions and stretches himself waaayyy too thin, and yes, trauma response I think, and the toxicity of a stained past relationship (Elektra refused to leave him be) mixed with his Daredevil side, while trying to be a good “boyfriend” (I’m using that term lightly) to Karen and a good partner/friend to Foggy and a good lawyer and it all just falls between the giant cracks into a pile of burning shit.
I’ve seen people call him an asshole and while he hadn’t been the greatest friend/partner, I think I understand what being in that position he puts himself does and entails. He tried to say no to Elektra but she also knew what to say and spin to get him to eventually say yes and knew how to hit that “Matt can’t say no to helping people” button of his. He wanted to help Frank, he wanted to be that important someone/boyfriend to Karen. He wanted to be that best friend and good partner and lawyer for Foggy.
So, you have Elektra who, in my opinion, doesn’t fully accept or understand his passion for his day job (even if she thought she’d be helping) and tries telling/convincing him that he’s all DD and again hits that people helping/protective button. You have Foggy who is rightfully angry at Matt- for dropping the ball Matt first picked up himself and forced into Foggy, for leaving him hanging and for not telling him about Elektra- also not fully accepting or understanding Matt’s need to be Daredevil.
You have Karen who is also rightfully disappointed and angry and kept in the dark, because she’s smart, she knows there’s definitely a lot more going on that both Matt and Foggy aren’t telling her and it puts pressure on her being in the middle, and maybe if Matt just told her his secret earlier things would have been different and I honestly think she would’ve definitely supported both sides of Matt.
So Matt tries to be all these things and more to everyone around him (even keeping Frank from dying and fighting for his right to a fair trail) and it all goes to shit in the end.
(This isn’t new to anyone who has watched the Netflix Daredevil.)
But honestly, even the first time around, even the 10th, 15th time around….I never thought of Matt as a full on asshole in S2. I think that yes, not the greatest friend, dropped giant important things and prioritized things incorrectly, tried to set rules with Elektra but didn’t stand very firmly on them and didn’t quite set boundaries with her when it came to some um, personal space. Didn’t properly explain to Karen what was happening or going on of why his ex was in his bed in the first place.
I think he felt caught in such a delicate web of people not accepting or understanding both sides of him, his passion and love for being a lawyer and DD. Ended up trying to Be All The Things and having it ruin a friendship/relationship/partnership and definitely ended with his own fears of abandonment coming true in more ways than one. But I understand why and where he was trying to come from and be.
….why do I have so much to say and think and theorize about this damn character. 🤷🏻♀️🥲

So we know how Mr.Castle is a dog enthusiast. And I saw this...
and it got me thinking about The Punisher bursting into a dog fighting rink and just unleashing hell on everyone in there...some of them take cover behind walls and pillars and one of them happens to be our lovely reader who is an undercover animal rights activist.
Frank just walks around, making sure he got all of em and bumps into our frightened reader. And things take off from there for our crime fighting duo. Not an extremely romantic way to meet the love of your life but hey!? ENEMIES TO LOVERS.
Now I gotta go back to writing my research paper 🤧

i think seeing him burst into a dog fighting ring and killing everyone, and rounding up the dogs after is one of the most wholesome (wholesome is subjective lmao) and on brand things for him. and i think this is just... such a cute idea. i love your brain so fucking much!!!!
