on my first ever Big Solo Trip and positively radiating Main Character Energy by walking into small town establishments in my blue velvet knee length coat. reading a novel in a dark corner of the hotel bar with an overpriced old fashioned in hand. driving my Slightly Too Nice Rental Car around the block several times as google maps and I try to figure out where the fuck I'm trying to go. what's my story? impossible to tell, I'm just lost and have anxiety bro.

“To help people transition to electric vehicles, what if you start with rental cars? That’s the theory of a collaboration between rental car company Hertz Global Holdings Inc. and the city of Denver.
A public-private partnership dubbed Hertz Electrifies will bring some 5,200 rental EVs to the city as part of an effort to ease some of the challenges of electrification.
Hertz plans to market the electric vehicles as try-before-you-buy, meaning interested residents can spend a few days experiencing electric car life before making a more permanent commitment.
The rental car company will also fund and oversee the installation of dozens of public EV chargers at Denver International Airport and other spots around the city, working with EV charging network BP Pulse.
For Denver officials, the partnership’s most important component is that Hertz will provide data that could help the city decide where more public EV chargers are needed the most, and in what quantity. That’s because the rental cars will be equipped with telematics systems, which collect and transmit GPS and a range of other data so officials know where electric vehicles are being driven.
“Building out our EV charging infrastructure is a key component of our own EV adoption goals as a city, and this data will help inform on where that infrastructure will be needed the most,” said city of Denver spokesperson Mike Strott.
Hertz also plans to develop a pipeline of skilled workers for the industry, offering summer job opportunities through Denver’s Youth Employment Program and providing EVs, tools and training to Montbello Career and Technical High School for students enrolled in its auto certificate program. “These are people later down the line that we'd want to work for us,” said Hertz Chief Executive Officer Stephen Scherr.
In addition to helping Denver reach its goal of an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050, Strott hopes the initiative will help create good-paying future jobs in Denver.”

fucking hell
so here i am in another city on the other side of the country
rented a car from a major agency (avis, fuck'em)
think it's strange when i pick it up that there's no keyfob but w/e the key starts the car
got to the lodgings forgot to lock the car because i don't lock the car at home so
when we went out to dinner and i locked the car, went out to open the car for a late arrival in our party to drop her suitcase off and go back to dinner
the fucking key wouldn't open the car
sure it turned
but it was clearly not triggering anything just turning as though the lock is disconnected
i'm locked out with the key in hand
called avis they said they'd contact roadside service
didn't get a call in an hour so i call aaa
they say THREE HOURS
luckily we're at a pub
15 minutes later aaa shows up. surprised as i was about not being able to get in the car. he pries the door open and hits the lock... alarm goes off
i climbed in the car put key in the ignition and turned it, car doesn't start alarm doesn't stfu
finally idk why but alarm shuts off maybe because i was messing with the ignition or maybe manipulating the door lock from the inside of the car? who knows
so the next mystery, why doesn't the car start now?
aaa guy tried jumping the car, no good. for some reason it probably is in a security mode?
in desperation i turned the key on & off 5 times rapidly and hit buttons on the steering wheel
magically the car turned on
wtf
needless to say we didn't lock the car tonight, please someone steal it
i'm taking it back to avis tomorrow

Yo if you ever need to book rental cars for a trip, don't use next car rentals, mex rent a car, surprice, or york. They're all the same company and they will slap you with "mandatory" fees that weren't in your agreed-on and pre-paid price.
Having an issue right now where expedia is saying they can't give us a refund because the company isn't agreeing to refund us even thought They cancelled.
They list low prices to get customers, and they try to jack the price up so that it's pretty much equivalent to what you'd pay at a reputable agency.
Honestly? Avoid expedia altogether. It doesn't seem worth it.
