Freelancer can practically see the steam rushing out of Gavin's ears.

His face is red and his eyes were glaring holes into them. If they didn't know any better, they'd say he was mad at them.

But they saw the way Gavin's lips fought a smile. The corners of them tugging up without his approval, entirely giving away his facade.

They've grown awfully fond of him, and it almost scared them. Almost. No one could really be scared of such beauty, in their humble (and very correct) opinion. And if that didn't convince them, Freelancer would take any and every opportunity explaining how wise, endearing and kind the man in front of them was.

"Are you even listening to me?"

That snapped Freelancer right out of the clouds. They paused for a second, before coming clean.

"Nope. Sorry, handsome."

If Freelancer said Gavin's face managed to get even more red, he would deny it.

"You-" he starts, putting his face in his hands, breathing in and out to calm himself, "I am going to kill you."

If Gavin meant that, he didn't show it. Perhaps one could argue the blushing, smiling and wide eyes filled with adoration were all a ruse to hide his murderous intent. If that was the case, Freelancer had definitely fallen for (him) it.

Unfortunately for Gavin, Freelancer had one last card up their sleeve.

"And what are you going to do, Gavin? Fuck me to death?"

What were they here for again? Magic history tutoring? A movie date? Finishing the leftover pizza and wings they ordered the last time Gavin was over?

It didn't matter anymore, because Gavin was forcing them out of their seat, grabbing their face and kissing them breathless. All while maneuvering the both of them into their bedroom.

When Freelancer took a breath, they were on top of Gavin, legs on either side of his waist, one hand pinning one of his arms down while the other was resting on his chest. They stared at him as they felt his chest falling and rising, his heart beating beneath their touch.

They remembered what that meant, when a demon took the time to form a heart beat with magic. Slowly, they leaned down to kiss his chest, right where a real heart would be if he was human.

They looked up at him, and in their brief eye contact, Freelancer thanked him. For his help with DAMN stuff, for trusting them enough to be this vulnerable with his emotions.

For being in their life.

If Freelancer was asked if they started to cry in that moment, hiding it from Gavin by meeting his lips with their own again, they'd say it was drool.

What caught my attention with the fooliverse (Is that what we're calling it?) Gavin video is that he seems very overwhelmed by Freelancer's emotional energy

It reminds me of how, in "The Cost," Gavin says something along the lines of "I've been feeding on my high fructose Freelancer energy for days now," meaning that even in the prime universe, FL has very high/concentrated emotional energy

So, it's not too much to assume that prime!Gavin was probably also overwhelmed when he first met Freelancer - he was just better at keeping his reaction under wraps

Just some stupid thing I came up with on the fly.

Parody of We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Disney’s Encanto to the Redacted universe.

Not all of it is perfect because well… I’m not perfect. Not all canon mostly based on the DAMN crew section. Some part have been left out because I couldn’t think of anything. If you can, please put them in the comments.

Specific lines that made me think of a character are highlighted. Only the first stanza is “sung” but the characters and the chorus by the fandom. The rest are about the specific person.

You know who deserved to be a villain??

Lovely. Lovely deserved to be a villain. And the fact that they weren't should be appreciated by everyone.

Why?

Because Lovely could've very easily turned into Quinn. Like so easily that it's a little scary.

Seriously, think about it. Lovely had a lot of issues after Adam and the inversion and all of it was because of Vincent. If at any point they had decided that Vincent wasn't shit and they deserved better than whatever insanity this man would bring, we would've gotten a second Quinn.

Someone bitter and angry at how loving one person fucked up their entire life. Someone hellbent on making sure he could never hurt anyone else the way he hurt them. Someone who kept others out of Vincent's hurricane by making sure they never stepped in it at all. Through manipulation or murder, that's up to you.

"But that doesn't sound like Lovely! They're too sweet for that! They'd never turn out that way even if they did turn evil." And? Quinn's entire reasoning for going after Darlin was because they betrayed him. I'm not saying he wasn't a garbage person but I am saying characters have done worse for less.

Lovely deserved to be hurt. To be angry. To leave in a violent storm and pay back the world for what it did to them in a shower of blood and broken promises. And I have no doubt they would've.

But they didn't. Because Lovely is trusting, forgiving, a little naive for the situation they're in, and completely in love.

If Lovely was a little more attentive to their circumstances or a little less in love with Vincent, they'd see that this relationship has brought just as much trauma as pleasure and that going forward with it will destroy them.

Then see above.

Lovely deserved to be a villain. Hell, I'm willing to believe they should've been. But they weren't. And nobody seems to see it.

(Now don't let the entire post of me dunking on him fool you, I love Vincent, he's the first Redacted character I listened to. But like...facts are facts)

welcome to a redacted soul eater au post! here, i try and discover what it'd be like if you merged the soul eater world and mechanics within the redactedverse. this is the fourth post in the series of posts i'll make regarding the individual characters and their listeners! we've got gavin & freelancer on the menu. enjoy!

note: freelancer wields each D.A.M.N. boy at a certain time, so there'll be other posts detailing their relationship with huxley, damien, lasko and kody. this post is about gavin especially, since he is their partner and primary weapon. hope that makes sense!

gavin — soul type: demon weapon weapon type: polearm variants compatible with: freelancer

"demon weapons" are a sort of weapon that have the ability to change forms. every demon that isn't a "monster soul" is a demon weapon, resulting in no demonic meisters. gavin specifically is a demon weapon that can shift into different variants of a polearm- a weapon known for having different ends/blades.

there are no strict differences between demon types, however demon souls themselves are unique. they're much bigger than other souls, encapsuling the demon and often protecting the body from outside influence. with age, a demon's soul grows stronger.

gavin and freelancer's combatibility proved true for almost as long as they've known each other, however they only started out as a weapon/meister duo after they established their relationship. the two see it as an important bond. gavin, for fun, also likes to make joke about his weapon form being 'mostly pole'.

freelancer — soul type: meister strongest meister ability: soul perception - a technique all meisters have, but skilled meisters can see clearer personality or significant traits within souls. compatible with: gavin (primarily), huxley (secondarily), damien (secondarily), lasko (secondarily, co-wield), kody (previously)

considering freelancer is, well, a freelancer, their soul is compatible with other empowered individuals without much strife. and, considering freelancer has such a close bond with their friends and their lover, they're able to wield each of them in different ways.

akin to their understanding of magic, their comprehension of weapon wielding came a little later than expected. that is to say they put their all into research and making sure they knew all the basics before any problems arose, and now they're considered incredibly skilled.

freelancer is a concept i had in my brain from the start. in fact, in my og concept post, it's the one example i give! in a way, they stemmed this whole idea. i think it's interesting to discover ways meisters exist that aren't explored in the show- for example, one meister wielding several weapons.

lite backstory: for every post i make for the characters, i'll add some au backstory to really fill in some details you may be curious about!

as mentioned before, gavin and freelancer's compatibility shone true throughout their entire time knowing each other. gavin hadn't been wielded before, which was a first for him out of few firsts, and he wanted it to be special- something he didn't realise he'd prioritise as an incubus. freelancer, on a similar hand, hadn't been a meister for anyone before, and upon meeting gavin, didn't recognise that their wavelengths were so compatible until they started 'fooling around' with each other more.

conversations occurred & confessions happened, and soon after the two discussed weapon/meister dynamics. even though freelancer now wields huxley, damien, and lasko, they consider gavin their primary weapon, having the strongest bond with him.

(Also let me use this for a second to talk about Bestie, if you will)

I believe that Bestie is secretly very aware of the kind of person Blake really is and possibly even knows what’s going on. They’re not sporting rose tinted glasses, they’re not as easily manipulated as people think they are. If anything, I’d think that’s what they’d want you to think. Some part of them could feel manipulative in a way. They know what strings are being pulled, they know the cards being dealt. That’s how I portray them anyway. It’s makes theirs and Blake’s dynamic more complex and all the more better in my mind 👀

Like just the desperation in his tone whenever he starts getting frustrated and/or struggles to keep his composure? Lord

Now as my personal preference I headcanon that the man is submissive (maybe verse, but definitely heavily sub leaning for me). He’s so whimpery. Between those kisses, the way he sounded pleading with Bestie when warning them about their relationship— even just his shaky voice/breaths from before when he first confesses his feelings; That’ll do it ✍️

Sometimes, Freelancer will experience the worst stinging shoulder blade pain known to man (due to spinal fusion surgery). Gavin always panics when this happens, cuz he'll be in another room and all of a sudden feel a wave of agony go through Freelancer, paired with an anguished "AUGH MY SHOULDER BLADES" (this is based on personal experience btw)
