There are many song cues apropos to particular road trips, and vice versa. You might wonder about being born in the back of a Greyhound bus when riding on Highway 41 through Georgia. You might feel like stopping for a brew somewhere along US2 twelve hours out of Mackinaw City. Readin’, rightin’, and Route 23 might have put you Detroit City bound on that old Hillbilly Highway. You might be thinking about getting back to Ojai while hitching a ride up the PCH. Or about all those things that are easily done out on Highway 61. Not to mention the kicks on Route 66.
Myself, I’m way past seventeen and it’s more than a half century since 1965, but I was running up 101 the other day for the first time in my life, so I had to cue up some Jackson Browne.
We just posted about the Dream Sitch release a few days ago. While browsing the best-selling vinyl on Bandcamp, I saw this release from Floating Action (North Carolina), not knowing that it is one of the vehicles for Seth Kauffman's solo efforts. I had no idea Kauffman was so accomplished. As stated on Floating Action's Bandcamp page, Kauffman, "Currently works in the studio and tours with 'dudes who get it' like Jim James, & Dan Auerbach. Has played on albums by Lana Del Rey, Jim James, Ray Lamontagne."
Floating Action does recall Dream Sitch, but there is a bit more of a ska/reggae tinged feel at work on some of the tracks. At other times, this reminds me of Laurie Shaw or even The Flaming Lips.
People In A Position To Know (PIAPTK) is releasing this as well. I actually went to the label's website. There is some very cool stuff there.
Jackie, have you ever heard "To Be Human" by Sia? Ever since I discovered Destiel, all I can think about when I hear it is Dean and Cas.
I admit, though I've made my way through quite a bit of Sia's catalog over the years, I hadn't heard To Be Human yet. I have now, and it's quite beautiful.
It's kind of amazing how we can find Dean and Cas in a song and just become obsessed with it, isn't it? I have to admit, this is one of mine.
