13. Do they enjoy poetry?

Yes and no. It honestly depends on the poetry and the time you catch them at. As a young iterator, they disdain it - it's a practice they seems pointless, to them. Though their citizens attempted to explain it once or twice, it never really caught on - why put so much effort into so few words, for something that may not even convey its meaning to its audience?

As an older iterator, post-mass-ascension, they dabbled from time to time. Not quite enjoying it, but attempting to understand it - to foster those last few commections in the pastimes that lost citizens cultivated, They could not claim to have ever fully reached that understanding, but they tried, at the very least - for better or for worse.

In the twilight of their existence, just before their final ascension... it would depend on the poetry. Some, in the final hours of their lifetime, would appeal to them. Some would seem just as petty and useless. One cannot spend so long attempting to study something without gaining at least a begrudging respect for it. Still, it never quite advances past that - only appreciation for a handful of bits of poetry, never more.

31. What superpower would you choose for them and what would they choose for themselves? If they have one would they choose something else?

Yeah we would go the traditional powers-that-rub-the-salt-in route and give them a form of postcognition that allows them to perfectly relive any significant events or memories attached to a place or object as a passive bystander Dimensional Scream style. Or Panacea's biomancy, if we want them to actually participate in the setting beyond being a depressed fuck in the corner.

If Rad were to choose their own power, they would probably pick some form of time travel - the ability to go back, in a different shape, and live through or alter events long passed. This is because they're a sad little freak and much as they appreciate their citizens, there's very little they can do as an iterator, and they wouldn't want to force others to do their dirty work time-travel-wise.

44. Who, if anyone, would they trust with their deepest secrets?

There have been many people they've trusted with their deepest secrets. Their administrators, first and foremost. The vast majority of their citizens, nearly any of those who would stay with them for more than a handful of years. Some of their first creations, when those still lived.

After mass ascension, and after they've finished their initial experimentation stage and making unique subjects... no one, really. No one but themself.

Technically by having sex I'm committing welfare f/raud

In so-called Ontario, welfare recipients (OW & I'm pretty sure for ODSP too) must apply together if both you and a spouse are applying at all. They give you much less with a partner, assuming automatically you'll be able to survive on less.

The issue is that neither OW or ODSP give enough to live off of for 1 person alone, so folks who make the standard amount and are single still are not making ends meet, or really getting anywhere near close to that. (Check out the hashtag #ODSPoverty on twitter for examples.)

For example, I get a little under $700 CAD/mo on OW (they sent me two payments accidentally around two years ago so have been taking it back slowly since - I should be getting $725.) Rent is >$600. I'm not going to give exact numbers since it requires me double checking and I don't feel like it, but having about $40-60 CAD after shelter bills are paid sounds about right. My phone bill is $60/mo. (This is a very affordable plan here, I know it's different elsewhere.)

I have to share a room with my partner to be able to afford basic shelter. (We would love different rooms.)

My partner & I are both disabled & cannot physically work without extreme pain and/or injury, like subluxes, dislocations for her and fainting for me.

"That can't be real, how do you survive?"

The answer is begging. Some folks go to the street but since I have the privilege to do it online, that's generally what I do.

My partner and I are not married, but common law partners are considered married for legal purposes, including for applying to OW.

Common law partners is defined as:

"In Ontario, Canada, two people are considered common law partners if they have been continuously living together in a conjugal relationship for at least three years."

My partner and I have been living together in a "conjugal" relationship for about ±5 years

The "conjugal" part is something we have had to lie to welfare about and refer to ourselves as roommates

Because sex with a long term partner is class privilege, I guess ! 🙃

Has There Been $1 Billion in PPP Fraud?

A recent watchdog report found “significant risk” for fraud in the PPP. We spoke to a risk-management expert who identified the scope of the problem, and how to zero in on the seasoned fraudsters.

Last Thursday, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report saying that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), which stopped accepting applications yesterday, almost certainly fell victim to a significant amount of fraud. Given the $670 billion scope of the program, that was a given ⁠— and there have already been charges from the Department of Justice in Massachusetts, Texas, Iowa and New York.

“Because of the number of loans approved, the speed with which they were processed, and the limited safeguards, there is a significant risk that some fraudulent or inflated applications were approved,” the GAO report stated.

The question that the report didn’t answer was: How much fraud are we talking about? According to Tom Miller, the CEO of risk-management firm ClearForce, we’re probably looking at a big chunk of stolen change — big with a capital B. “We estimate there’s more than a billion dollars worth of verified criminal fraud within the PPP program,” Miller says. “And the big point here is that there’s a fixed pot of money in the PPP program. So that’s a billion dollars that didn’t make it to legitimate businesses who really need economic support because it was misdirected to fraudsters.”

Zeroing in on the real fraud

The PPP application asked borrowers if they had been convicted of a felony in the past five years or were still on parole or probation. If so, they were disqualified. We have reported at length on why it’s not good policy to exclude all small-business owners with felony convictions from receiving assistance. And Miller agrees with this.

But he says that it is important to zero in on one particular subsection of applicants with felony convictions: Those who lied on their applications and said they had not been convicted of a felony, when in fact they had been convicted of a fraud or financial felony.

“We did analysis around this and found that of the applicants who fraudulently reported that they did not have felony convictions ⁠— about half of those felonies were related to fraud and financial theft,” Miller says. “So these are professional, serial fraudsters. In the past, they have defrauded the government or a financial institution or another individual, and here they are again in the system trying to access more money. And from our analysis, these crimes weren’t being committed in some gray area of the five- or six-year window. The convictions were fairly well distributed across [the last five years]. Almost 20 percent of the fraud that we picked up on occurred just in the last 12 months.”

Miller says that the amounts of the fraudulent claims range across the spectrum, and that — apart from potential $1 billion claimed by applicants recently convicted of fraud felonies — there will likely be many companies who stretched the truth, as well as small-business owners who made honest mistakes on their applications. “You’re going to have some employers deflating the number of employees that they have on their payroll so that they can qualify as a small business,” Miller says. “And you’re going to have some companies inflating their payroll because they’re trying to capture higher loan amounts. They’re not using the proceeds for business purposes. They’re using it for some kind of personal purchase of assets or whatever. And then you’re going to have people who are just lying about different parts of the application to get money.”

The most difficult thing for government prosecutors bringing fraud charges will be to prove intention on the part of applicants to defraud the government. “Was it willful deceit?” Miller asks. “Or is this just an inexperienced small-business owner who’s never filled out a government loan application and didn’t understand the way PPP was calculated? For the government, that becomes tricky, and nobody really wants the government’s heavy hand of oversight going after people who may have inadvertently made mistakes. But if they can focus on these serial fraudsters, we estimate there’s more than a billion dollars worth of that verified criminal fraud within the program.”

Anne: Crushing stage: She’s embarrassed, yet she will never show it. She’s throwing jokes around to try and distract you from the ridiculous face she probably made. As embarrassing as it was, she would find it funny and this moment will make her love for you stronger.

Relationship stage: She’s tackling you into a kiss and commenting on how cute you are. Instead of one kiss, she will steal from you twenty. It’s how you compensate her for the damages you dealt.

???: Crushing stage: He’s confused. Like genuinely confused. Every part of your body was telling him that you were going to kiss him, yet you didn’t. He is never able to keep his thoughts to himself and so, he will ask you directly.

Relationship stage: You’re not getting away that easy. That little oblivious act is making him horny…
