Thread/Soulmate Warhammer AU
Not really a soulmate AU, but more of "threads of fate" au.
~~~~
Ra’s thread is a thin, fragile thing. The Emperor had been loath to break it, had hesitated, His claws hovering over the delicate braid. He had held it, as delicate as the umbilical cord of a newborn, and grieved as He felt what He had to do. In the end He had wrapped it in gossamer like the finest of silk, and woven it, with infinite care, into His own.
When Drach'nyen thrust itself in, it had severed both threads.
~
Valdor’s thread is crimson. The Emperor had cut off at his wrist, with the only remnants wrapped around his forearm like a chain. The ends still twitch and tangle, as if waiting for a man he had lost before they even met. The Emperor took the frayed threads of the severed rope, and bound it to Him.
Now it wraps around Valdor’s throat like a leash. (Or a noose.)
Valdor does not mind.
(Once, only once, in mere moments before Constantin lowered the blade, he had seen the flash of recognition. The sudden unknotting of a thread of fate both had assumed severed so long ago.
And then the mercy blow. A horrible moment of terrible pity etched across his victim’s pain-stricken face, and the sadness in those tormented eyes not for himself but for Valdor.
And, finally, oblivion. )
~
Sanguinius’ thread is black. He can see it, twisting there, stretching onwards, inked across the sands of time. When he had met Horus, the Angel had stalled, a smile still stretched across his face, noting down the way his thread had wrapped itself lazily around Horus’ arms. Their threads had tumbled and tangled over one another, so deeply intertwined it was impossible to remove without severing one.
Horus did not seem to see a thing amiss.
~
Lorgar, his thread brilliant red, wrapped around the Emperor’s chest. The way he had screamed at the fury in His eyes when He had reached up and tore the thread out of His breast, snapping the thin thing in half beneath His claws. The way he had cursed Him, the remnants of the thread pooling around him like shed snakeskin, the scent of Monarchia’s ashes curdling upon his tongue.
~
Alpharius and Omegon’s threads, a single, thick cord that split in half, bobbing and weaving until neither could tell who was whose. It just seems to love knots, looping around itself, around others, dragging others together without abandon.
~
Vulkan’s thread, thick and dark and braided, glowing softly with a gentle warmth. It trails itself around his chest, wrapping itself around all near and wide, spreading like a kind coat of flame. It is tender, such a lovely thing. It has chipped, and knotted, and frayed over the eons, but it braids on, thick and resolute. Ashes are embedded in its strings now, but their warmth is still there, just buried under the charcoal.
~
Fulgrim’s thread was made of silk. A beautiful, perfect, fragile thing. It had bound itself around his hands, around Ferrus’ silver hands and his neck. The delicate silk, so pale against the silver. And how pitifully it had shattered, without a cry, without a song, only with the slithering of sick silk as he had snapped it when the Laerblade took Ferrus’ head.
~
Ferrus’ thread was a chain. It wrapped around his neck and hands. It had pooled itself slowly around Fulgrim, like a lazy snake, braiding itself together into intricate knots with his silk. When Fulgrim took his head from his shoulders, the links had shattered.
~
Horus’ thread, white and black. It tied itself so languishly over one of his forearms. If only he had known. If only he had seen. If only he had felt the thread tightening, tugging, unraveling as he had sped his way down a path, and never glanced back upon the road he had trodden. When it finally spun itself out of silk, it tied together in one, final blasphemy of angel feathers. Both tips of their threads had been charred together, one longer than the other.
It was Horus that undid the knot.
He did not even see it unravel when he cut the life out of his brother.
~
Malcador’s thread. Grey, seemingly thin, but with an impossible, resolute strength. There it was, underpinning the Emperor's thread like a shadow, together even in death. How brightly it had burned, like candlewick, as he sat upon the Throne, eyes bulging, nerves burning, feeling the cells in his body die one by one. It had charred itself to cinders, and then to ash, and finally dust, before his lord made it back home.
~
And finally, the Emperor's thread. It wrapped around Himself, and only Himself, but it branched off like the leaves of Yggdrasil. It curled itself into the veins of His Custodes, it dragged together the binds of His Primarchs, it curled together like one with Malcador. Some branches were frayed, their ends charred, some had curled up into a solitary knot that no longer held another, some burnt like living, writhing sunlight caught in flesh, but some were warm. Some still dreamt, lazily winding through the fog, one out of thousands. They would bind themselves not to men, or to women, but to entire worlds, to every last beating heart upon the land. It was not a leash, or a noose, or a chain this time, it was merely a bridge, the last heart of a dead god who had once gazed upon His people. And smiled.
A redraw of an old piece (you can see it here!) that I wanted to revisit. The Emperor and his Tribune, Ra Endymion. A part of me still loves the original more lol.
hey, i have an idea and i would like your opinion on this one, basically is the idea of "i want to let it go, but it, whatever it is won't let ME go", but aplied to 40k, like imagine huge chunk of the ascended Emperor's power is inside someone, a baseline human from some backwater planet, like the emepror just pointed to a dude and said, "i choose you" for no good reason and now said dude just wants to let the Emperor's powers go away from him, but the emperor won't let him be.
So kinda like a reverse Endymion scenario? Mmm. Interesting. I wonder how that would turn out. lol
To celebrate RAINBOW!'s release today, I'm going to go over all the daydream references that have been made so far, since it's fun for me to sneak them in 💖 there's a lot of them though, so it's gonna be under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 1-- Kiki's Delivery Service and E.T.! People focus on the Kiki reference so much that the other seemed to be missed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 2-- Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion, Sailor Moon. Another one obvious enough to be called out in some comments. It was referenced again in episode 54, where this panel was taken from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 5-- Marceline, Adventure time. One of the few reference that isn't an outfit specifically, but a character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11-- Revolutionary Girl Utena. Not necessarily supposed to be the characters themselves, just the outfits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11-- Minako Aino, Sailor Moon. In hindsight, I don't remember why I chose this specific dress to reference and not the maid outfits from Sailor Stars or the fruits maid outfits from the manga... especially since I think the fruits maid outfits are adorable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11-- Catra, She-Ra reboot. I kind of regretted this one immediately just because like 80% of the comments on the episode were "CATRA SUIT!!!" as a result...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 18-- Sailor Moon manga. I was always intrigued by the way characters would be dressed in dreamlike/ethereal sequences in the manga, so this reference was a must for me. I went with the version that is a full dress with straps rather than the dresses from other moments in the manga that have no discernible top half.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 30 and 31-- Not a reference to any specific film or character, but just film noir in general. I do remember referencing a female character specifically for this but sadly I couldn't find it again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 40-- Pomeranian scene, IT Chapter Two. Surely you saw this coming (or maybe not?) I don't think I got the camera angle good enough to really sell this reference, but I couldn't resist it anyways.
Tumblr media
Episode 43-- Adult Losers, IT Chapter Two. The only reference besides Marceline that references the characters themselves, since I normally use our other characters for background character purposes. Also one of the only references that isn't a daydream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 54-- Disney's Snow White and Cinderella. I couldn't decide which to reference, so I ended up leaning mostly into Cinderella, but referenced the Evil Queen's crown as well. Boo's dress is also somewhat referenced from the the live action Cinderella dress instead of the animated version, just because I liked it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 54-- Treasure Planet and Treasure Planet 2 concept art. Treasure planet is one of my favorite movies, so there was no way I was missing out on referencing it. A few people brought up some wlw pirate webcomic(s?) in the comments of this episode, but the actual reference seemed to be mostly missed. The sash around Boo's waist is also meant to be fabric from her princess dress in the previous panels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 54-- Revolutionary Girl Utena. Another one I was kind of surprised wasn't called out just because of how iconic the whole clothed shadow/silhouette thing is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 55-- Saint Tail. I couldn't reference this one as closely as I would have liked since it probably wouldn't have been very readable as a magician's costume to someone who didn't know it, so it mostly references the brooch from the anime and her hat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 61-- Jane Fonda in Spirits of the Dead. A super random and out there reference, especially to end on, but I liked the outfit so much that I couldn't help it. Maybe Boo used to fall asleep to old movie channels, lol.
That's it, at least for now! We'll have to see what shows up in future episodes~
Fun facts!
Maulland Sen’s battle was 126 years ago from the Palace Coup.
This implies Thunder Warriors don’t have mortal lifespans, as we see Ushotan, a living Thunder Warrior, fighting at the Palace Coup. Ushotan was at least 144 years old when he fought Valdor, otherwise he’d be a teenager during Maulland Sen.
Also Ra Endymion was born around Maulland Sen. Ushotan is literally older than Ra.
Now, Valdor also implies the fighting took about a century or so, ending upon Ararat. Therefore, Ushotan spent roughly three decades post-Ararat in hiding, before leading the Palace Coup.
Ushotan was also explicitly the last living Thunder Primarch, and was absolutely a sassy, cranky, salty old man with cancer when he fought Valdor.
Saban Moon Thoughts
I have been an avid Sailor Moon fan for about 15 years but have honestly been watching the show for 25. So imagine the undeniable joy at watching the ToonMakers pilot!
I have been wrapping my head around the possible lore that could have come from this show and similarities and differences that would have made it a cult classic compared to the original. While I'm glad it never got made because we wouldn't have gotten the beloved Dic dub, I still wonder the "what-ifs" (and shudder to think about a gritty Netflix/CW reboot if Toei didn't clutch the rights like a newborn child.)
The Obvious:
Representation. Yes, the main was still a waify white girl, but there were black, asian, and paraplegic characters. These could have been more relatable to children than our lighter-skinned original characters.
Queer awakenings. Sailor Moon has always been a queer mothership, with Saban Moon re imagining Sailor Mars as the "tomboy" character with short hair. Sailor Jupiter, and later Sailor Uranus, was my own awakening.
Crossing sentai over to North America. While the Power Rangers have reign over this genre in NA, I think that this show could have also created an impact for all-girl superhero teams. It would have ridden on the coattails of She-Ra and have been placed a couple of years before the Power Puff Girls.
Combined Live Action and Animation. This was something I had never seen before and loved the idea that their superhero personas were animated and their civilian identities were live action. I think could have pulled the Sweet Valley High/Babysitters Club/Clarissa Explains It All group, but also the Batman/Captain Planet group.
The Lore Potential
Interplanetary (and Inter-dimensional) Travel. These Sailor Scouts could travel from Earth to different planets to fight monsters, rather than have monsters invade the Earth (as far as the Pilot showed). They use "Sky Flyers" which I assume is where the idea for the Irwin "Moon Cycle" toy came from. With the Vortex as a portal between dimensions, what would happen if it were to close, or if Beryl were to go through?
Identities. All the girls were aware of their identities upon physical arrival to Earth, rather than being reborn and discovering their past lives. They already know they are Guardians/royalty and could have struggles fitting in to Earth customs.
Tuxedo Mask. He still throws the rose to act as a foil and deus ex machina to the Monster of the Week, but his role and appearance is questionable. Is he the prince in disguise (or reborn) or is he pulling a Moonlight Knight (alive but no memory except the sense of duty to protect)? Either way, would this have opened up a live action appearance for Mamoru/Darien to have a similar dynamic with Victoria/Serena/Usagi?
Superpowers. Unlike the original, Saban Moon featured generic power beams in place of the named attacks. However, the elemental aspects of the attacks remained for Mars and Jupiter.
The Youma. These Monsters of the Week varied from the originals in the sense that they were not possessing humans/Earthlings (can't forget Rhett Butler) but rather were monstrous beings themselves. There appeared to be different types and species, likely vulnerable to certain attacks.
Beryl. What is her deal? Did she also have an unrequited thing for Mamoru/Darien/Endymion or did her villain arc go further back?
Cosmic Jewels of Power. I think this obviously opens up the possibility of having the Outers appear. They would need to be rescued/have their own jewels returned to them, possibly giving them an opportunity to be the new transfer students on Earth?
Live Action and Animation storylines. It appeared to me that the live action portion was for the "slice of life" stuff, meaning that anything magical was not to be discussed while in civilian form. The animation, however, is where Luna would reveal cat-appropriate research on how to protect the jewels. Live action Luna still talks, but to either chide about schoolwork or call to action.
Female friendships. While they had their royal camaraderie in the animation, I think the live action would have explored the girls fully developing their friendship outside of duty and in the realm of teenagers, much like the anime.
Toxic Brain Dump
Exactly how did five girls who look nothing alike register for what is presumably a private school without any parents/guardians or identification? Maybe Luna has hypnosis powers like Luna-P. Magic is always the answer.
There were allegedly going to be boys at this dance but I didn't see any in the class room. Co-ed school but separate classes? A mixed dance with boys from a brother school?
The implication is that once Beryl is defeated, the girls can return to their home dimension. Is-is that it? I mean, the Sailor Moon series was still young by the time ToonMakers caught wind, so maybe they just wanted a one to two season series without developing a grandiose franchise.
A possible Mamoru/Darien appearance in live action could mean a separate school and "townie" episodes. Hopefully, the age difference would have been miniscule (like the manga) if at all.
How many big name stars would have gotten their start on this show or possibly didn't pass the auditions? There must have been more characters, townies, mean girls/rivals, potential love interests, and even extras.
Why did the character designs remove the giant bows but keep the rest of the uniform?
Were the character designs based on the actors or vice versa? I'm assuming the designs came first since the girls had to wear wigs to match the animation.
If Toei didn't have the rights in their claws (which Viz only got after a looonnnggg whiiiiilleee) and a gritty reboot was off the table, would a She-Ra - like reboot be palatable? I honestly think so. With even more character diversity and different body types, plus costume designs that show less boobage and less skin, I think this is something that people would enjoy and have fun with. A recreation with queer creators of color would also bring an extra kick to what I think was a very progressive show for its time.
Those are my thoughts on the subject. Source: I am old and gay. I think Ray Mona did a great job and her efforts are thoroughly appreciated by many. I thought the pilot was a lost cause and was one of people who initially thought of it as a trainwreck. However, upon viewing, I think it's cute and cool and the epitome of a 90s program.
A Gift fit for a King
Inspired by @kit-williams !
~~~~~~
“It has been done. It's beautiful, isn't it? The view below. It’s done. It’s all done. It’s beautiful now. We’ve made them beautiful.” The Palace was, finally, complete. The Master of Mankind, ruling before all over His throne, gazing upon the prettiest, presentable faces of humanity, those who were the scum of the earth scoured by His gaze. The Custodes who had scrubbed Ararat clean of Cataegis corpses gave Him a bow. His eye lingers upon him for a few moments, then gestures once in dismissal.
+ Well done. + He purrs, and satisfaction, the only joy in a life devoid of emotion, flares through the Custodian.
Do you love us yet, my lord?
As tradition dictates, one kneels when offering the Emperor a prize. Valdor knelt as he offered the silver platter. Blood seeps through the plating to pool over his knuckles.
“A gift for you, my Emperor.”
The Emperor takes the platter with no more attention than you might offer a particularly amusing dog. With infinite carefulness, He removes the lid, examining the severed head with cold disinterest. Then, slowly, almost lazily, like a well-fed cat, He smiles and Valdor swoops into a full kneel.
+ And what of her sons? +
“They were taken to be Custodes, my lord.”
They too shall love Him.
He smiled. And only inclined His head softly in dismissal.
Do you love us yet, my Emperor?
The next trophy tasted of ash. The Emperor gazes upon the chalice, its rim still coated with Custodes blood, interest flaring in His gaze. The kneeling Shadowkeeper, limping, skewed on one side, using his spear as a crutch, kept upright only through sheer yearning. The glint in His eye ignites. And that simple movement brings life flooding through the Shadowkeeper’s ruined limbs as he crashes down into a kneel.
“My lord…” he speaks through blood clogged lungs. The Emperor extends His claws for the chalice. He scrambles to deliver it into His palm.
The hint of a smile. The edge of satisfaction. The Emperor muttering a sweet purr as He lifted the chalice, tasting the aura of bloodshed, of sacrifice it must have taken to recover it.
“My lord.” The Shadowkeeper rasps. His eyes were wide with reverence behind that auramite, and desperate affection. “We present an offering.”
The Emperor opens His palm, His attention briefly shifting to the Custodes. With a single gesture, He beckons for the wounded Shadowkeeper to approach. + You have done well, Hades. + His voice hums in appeasement, attention already returning to the artifact. + I expect nothing less than perfection from you. Well done. +
Bloodshot, exhausted eyes flutter close behind that auramite, basking slowly in the joy of his master’s approval, however short it may have been. “Thank you, my lord. Thank you…”
Do you love us yet, my Emperor?
The Webway was hell. Hell upon this earth. His one bloodied eye blinked, dropped shut, and opened again with great force. With great difficulty, he lifted his head, a broken jaw grating as he opened a ruined mouth and tried to speak. The auramite smothered his cries. The bloody ruin of His Custodian gazed upon His perfect face, and tried to cry out.
Slowly, with guarded interest, His gaze swept across the bloodied floor, and anchored upon the wreck that had once been His Custodian.
A crack in His shield. A shattering of His mask. For a moment, in death, His face softened. Pity, and almost sorrow, nearly broke through as the corpse raised one hand in His direction, palm upwards, straining for Him. Wordless words fell from a tongue too ruined to speak.
“Do you love us yet, my Emperor?”
Ra stumbled as he ran. His tribute was nothing more than himself, nothing more than his heart, and yet it was enough. It was enough as he saw that moment of terrible, broken compassion in His face, the sorrow in age old eyes as He raised His sword and carved Him a path of flame. Ra asked for no explanation. Ra needed no explanation.
He turned, and ran from the broken gaze of his lord, abandoning his master behind to His fate. He fled into the embrace of the Webway, hearing the anguish of his brothers left behind, feeling the ache of a golden heart just newly broken in two.
The Emperor’s gaze falls upon him like a tender storm. It embraces him with not joy, nor victory, but sweet bitterness.
And good-bye lasted forever.
He loved him yet, his Emperor.
Yes. Yes, He loved.

just some fun facts about my canon divergency:
usagi tsukino is the reincarnated body and soul of princess serena of the moon kingdom.
the name SERENITY is a title that has been passed down through generations of the moon kingdom lineage.
Now while I'm not the biggest fan of the name Prince Endymion or even the name Mamoru Chiba, the name Darrien Shields just has a better ring to it in my opinion and while the canon names may take some time to grow on me, my canon refers to tuxedo mask as Darrien Shields the reincarnation of Prince Endymion. Personally because I want to flesh him out in my own way, he will be. white and asian ( specifically japanese ) like Usagi, to give them more depth in having similarities on feeling different from everyone else while living in tokyo. That being said, other tuxedo mask roleplayers do not have to follow this version of him if they don't want to.
It's not shown in the anime enough but I headcanon that through that magical crest ribbon on her uniform, sailor moon uses it in battle to create weapons and items of all kinds, ranging between ropes, whips, swords, shields and helmets similar to how she-ra's sword can transform into anything she needs it to be.
