“Yeah, it’s just a little thing.” Sun Xiang nodded, before suddenly pausing as if he suddenly realized something.
“Little thing? Xiao Shiqin? Hahahahaha!”

“The King’s Avatar Manhua: Challenger League Arc” has just been announced, releasing every Sunday starting January 30! That is, the new manhua will be starting to adapt the Challenger League!
The original serialization of the new manhua (which is currently at chapter 85, right around Yu Wenzhou’s introduction) will continue to be released once a month on the first Friday of every month.
This is incredibly exciting! Out of all the many TKA adaptations, only the live action has ever adapted the CL (and it made so many changes it was hardly an adaptation at all). The new manhua has been quite faithful to the novel thus far, so I’m looking forward to it!

[QZGS] S3 hints in new MV for Ye Xiu bday 2022 《虹光》

My #1 post of 2022
The King’s Avatar begins today
(translated from official Weibo)
December 2, 2022. Hangzhou’s snow is already falling. On this very evening, the story began…
One Autumn Leaf, this account card that witnessed and personally experienced Ye Xiu’s legendary splendor, eventually parted ways with him, just one day shy of ten years. Even the most easygoing of people would feel some pain in this moment, and so your hands, which had always been steady up until now, began to tremble ever so slightly as you handed it to your successor. “If you like it, then treat this all as glory, and not boasting.” You said this, and released your hand.
“I’ll rest for a year, and then return.” Even though you left, only leaving behind these eight words, this wasn’t the end;
You walked through the snowy night, lifted your head, and saw an internet cafe, lights shining in this deep night. From Area C number 47, from that simple storage room, this all began anew…
Because of The King’s Avatar, because of Ye Xiu, we are willing to believe—on December 2 2022, somewhere in the world, there must be an internet cafe called Happy, that will let you push open the door, shake off the snow, and once again begin a legend.
On this day, I was fortunate to meet you, the most incredible you. This is the final line of The King’s Avatar chapter 1726.
Ten years of Glory, never fade. And now, it really has been ten years. We still remember. And the story of The King’s Avatar, Ye Xiu’s legend, begins today.
Ye Xiu, thank you for letting this seemingly ordinary day become so distinct. The glory that we witness together will never fade.
Team Excellent Era player Ye Qiu has disconnected, Glory tenth server player Lord Grim is logging in. New journey, start!

Quan Zhi Gao Shou / The King’s Avatar Manhua (Chapters 0-5)
What I really enjoyed right from the start of the animation was the realistic nature of the game and characters. I only play games sporadically myself, and usually handhelds at that, but even I could relate to Ye Xiu’s journey to the top of the new server. I mean, usually you just take for granted that the main character is aiming for the top of something, but it’s difficult to relate to saving the world or leading a gang of misfits across the land fighting monsters. Climbing to the top in a game, however? We’ve probably all tried it in some way or another, even if we failed along the way (I still haven’t completed the National Pokedex in any Pokemon game, ok).
This also could have been stated at the beginning of a review for the whole series, but this is a long one, the novel translations aren’t even complete yet. So it’s here now as a preface.
And now it’s time for my far less composed liveblogging! This is not going to be as detailed as my Shoukoku no Altair one by a long shot, I think I’d collapse of exhaustion before I finished.
Chapter 0: Cause
It is both unnerving and relaxing to not obsess about language nuance like I do when I read Japanese stuff. On the other hand, it feels weird being back to the state of not understanding more than a few words here and there...
Tumblr media
Colored panels are the best. The color (cold tones) to black & white to color (warm tones) back to black & white is a neat contrast.
Tumblr media
I’m honestly really excited to get all these names and teams straight. I watched several groups’ subs for the early episodes and all the names were translated differently, leading me to have no clue who anyone was or which team they belonged to except the currently teamless Ye Xiu lol.
Chapter 1: As we drink, the lute signals to go to war
Tumblr media
Look at that smug smirk. Ye Xiu’s relationship with Su Mucheng is just really nice with how supportive they are of each other.
Tumblr media
Damn it, I said I wasn’t going to go panel-by-panel! But I like the contrast between these two shots. One is as he is turning away, after having reassured Su Mucheng that he will be returning and it really is fine that his old team literally kicked him to the curb. The other is once he is turned away. He seems fine in the first shot, sort of indifferent, while the dark shadow over his eyes in the next panel suggests differently. But he’s not one to complain.
Tumblr media
Unexpected comedy shot lol. I appreciate the life in the internet cafe, everyone excited about Glory and the new server haha. In the animation, it was very quiet when he walked in, and they had to 3D animate it.
“As a female Launcher player, Mucheng never stopped smiling even when she blew up her opponent to pieces... It’s actually quite scary when you think about it.”
haha. He’s more expressive in the manhua. It lets you have these cute little musings in between scenes that the animations never have time for.
lol he just goes and hijacks her account. who does that. “the battle started already so I finished it for you. but don’t worry, I won!” that. isn’t the point.
Tumblr media
Hi scary demon Ye Xiu! Side note: they’re doing a good job giving the background characters different features.
Also, thanks to not looking at the characters for their names, I keep getting Ye Xiu and Ye Qiu mixed up. I...really need to go find out how it’s written.
Tumblr media
Not going to feature all of Chen Guo’s fun expressions, but so far there have been a lot of them and they’re great. (edit for Chen Guo’s name which I derped on and forgot at the time of writing this post. lol the manga doesn’t mention her whole name - Chen Guo - until a few chapters later. I think the other patrons call her ‘Sister Chen’ and the reader finds out her given name when Ye Xiu does. but in the novel, I think the narrative switches over to her at some point, so you find out her full name before Ye Xiu does...)
I love sayings, and how they are so weird when translated literally - Japanese ones are like this, too, because a lot of them are Chinese in origin. My favorite is probably 亀毛兎角.
Tumblr media
I hope this is a translation thing because damn, what a way to sugar-coat the truth.
Chapter 2: Since ancient times, how many have returned from war?
I wish I knew the references to classical Chinese poetry/literature, it makes the series 10x more fun when you know the origin of some of their usernames and such.
Ok, overdoing it much, Sun Xiang’s posse? You don’t need to be extra nasty about it to his face.
Tumblr media
I always really liked this expression of his reluctance, this human emotion from a guy who looks rather calm and composed (or sheepish, occasionally) most of the time. He takes things in stride, but here you definitely get the bitterness of his situation.
And now he has to laugh it off with a smile! He does a good job of keeping it together throughout this whole deal though.
Tumblr media
lol what kind of expression is that. “I like working nights!” why the cat face/ears. why. that was such a quick interview lol.
“Actually, we aren’t lacking people, the advert you saw was from a long time ago.”
That’s...actually, interesting. So Chen Guo is hiring him anyways? Or am I missing something in the translation?
Tumblr media
You are a surprisingly funny man, Ye Xiu.
Tumblr media
This is me. (it says ‘Verify faster!’)
lol Ye Xiu looking at the beginner’s guide. I never read the instructions though, even for a complicated games I’m new to, I just sort of jump in and hope I don’t die in the first few stages. Pretty sure the only game I had to actually read the instructions for was Final Fantasy Type-0? It’s difficult getting into a good rhythm without reading the in-game tips for that game...plus, some of the more advanced techniques are hard to pull off.
Chapter 3: Don’t laugh at those who lie drunk on the battlefield
Tumblr media
If I had time, I’d totally make edits, buuut I do not and photoshop is on my other computer. but when did he get those noodles...?
lol and he just outs himself right on the spot.
Tumblr media
That is one dark expression, I love it. The retirement thing is definitely a sore spot for him.
“you’re a professional. but also an amateur.” lol must be so weird to be Ye Xiu
“Don’t fake it, actually you’re not even retired. You didn’t get a spot and got kicked out, right?”
Ouch. Hit it where it hurts, why don’t you. Though she isn’t aware of who he actually is yet. He did indeed get kicked out, and it’s probably worse because he did have a spot previously, he was at the top even.
Tumblr media
Starting avatar! I love the character designs in this series, across the animation and manhua.
Tumblr media
“Suddenly I miss those games that let people pass through each other!”
HOW COULD THEY WITH SO MANY PEOPLE PLAYING. It reminds me of the Sims flailing their arms because you stuck a cabinet in the wrong spot and they can’t get through.
“Such a civilized way to kill monsters, I’m not used to it.”
“This only happens when a new server opens, you’ll definitely wish you can queue again in the future.”
I really like the side comments. I don’t play multiplayer games, but the comments definitely breathe some life into it.
LOL. “How to endure the shame? I was once known as Glory’s textbook level expert and now I have to use a beginner’s guide to do beginner’s quests.” You can feel his soul dying little by little in these panels...
I love how many titles he earned...”Does no commercials”.
And, of course, him trying to reveal who he actually is, only for her not to believe him.
lol this comment: “It’s so hard to play in first person view!” That’s actually how I feel, I dunno, I mostly play handhelds and older games. I flipped out when I tried to play Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus in first person, before I figured out there was actually a third person view...I’m just really lame when it comes to games, ok.
Tumblr media
Ooh, it’s here! The umbrella! What an odd choice of weapon, usually they’re the joke weapons. Well, it’s better than the bus stop sign from Persona 3.
Tumblr media
I’ve read spoilers about who this guy standing behind him is, and I am not ready to actually come across that part in the novel.
Side note: I like the avatar’s design better here than in the animation. Wonder if he changes outfit later on...
Chapter 4: Green Forest’s Sleeping Moon
“Let me help you, I’ll give you the drops as well.” “I’m [a] male.” Lol. I really do love these little dialogues.
I also love the usernames, I really am hopeless with it comes to naming things myself.
Hello, Sleeping Moon! I remember you! Sort of.
I love how Ye Xiu totally has a plan going into this, and his thought process is written out. It’s a mundane detail, but I like it. (I’m the type of person who doesn’t read the instructions provided by the game, but will go look everything up online because regardless if I played the game before or not, I like having a Plan when I go into it...I’m impatient, Shadow of the Colossus is the only game I actually take time to explore.)
The two modes of communication for Glory also make it interesting...Both text and audio. It’s fun having both.
Tumblr media
haha these drawings have so much life in them
Tumblr media
Including these.
Tumblr media
Way to look awesome and dramatic with your umbrella in hand.
lol “You planning to advance into a Cleric? Why don’t you just be our caretaker for good?” dying inside, I tell you, dying inside
Tumblr media
Knowing the spoilers like I do, THIS ISN’T OKAY. no sad flashback scene so early on. c’mon.
I like how Sleeping Moon keeps talking to him like he’s a newbie, too. It’s pretty funny.
Chapter 5: You reap what you sow
Finally, a chapter title I’m familiar with!
The naaames: Sleeping Moon, Just a Passerby, Not Just Cannon Fodder, Lord Grim, and Fallen Sun
I like ‘Just a Passerby’.
Hey, you even get to say some last words after your HP hits 0 haha.
“Don’t you know that if you die in a dungeon in Glory, you can’t come back?!” lol I’m side-eyeing all the other ‘if you die in the game you die in real life’ stories...
Tumblr media
They gave Sleeping Moon some really awesome expressions, gotta say.
Tumblr media
“But your acting isn’t at all convincing.” Actually, this is vaguely terrifying.
Also, I appreciate how Ye Xiu is calling him out on this whole plan and how he meant to cheat everyone while Ye Xiu is basically doing the same. haha
I’m not going to screencap it all, but the sequence of the boss slowly killing Sleeping Moon like the cat it is, and Ye Xiu’s reactions, are gold.
The umbrella is also really cool of course.
And here starts the drama on the 10th server! It’s honestly great, and quite true to real life haha. Well, real life can probably be weirder than even fiction...
AAAND that’s finally it! 5 chapters + the 0 chapter done! Oh geez that took forever...Anyway, I love all the little details the manhua can fit in that the animation can’t and I look forward to reading the novel version of these chapters sometime soon.

The King’s Avatar Original Manhua Chapters 1/2
Drawing by Wang Zhiqiang, Ha Yunqi
Coloring by Li Chao, Zhao Shuo
-
Couldn’t find the original chapters on any sites hosting the current version so I went on a little scavenger hunt to find them. I believe the chapters were also taken down from the original source, but if anyone has a link to the original publication then I’ll be sure to add it.

Various Donghua Reviews
I watched or tried to watch a whole bunch of donghua in the past few weeks, and since I see little discourse on this type of animation, I decided to compile them into a list with my short opinions attached. If you are toying with the idea of watching this or that Chinese animation, check out below for both recommendations and a couple of no-no series ^.^”
First things first, some notes. “Wuxia” is a popular genre in Chinese media, based off martial arts, and most often it strays into fantasy territory (from what I’ve seen, at least). It comes with a set of already established tropes and world building details. Think about Western fantasy - when you see elves in it, you don’t have to be told what they are. There are variations, but generally elves = pointed ears + beautiful + magical, and everybody knows that. Wuxia has similar things that do not get explained in every story, so it might feel overwhelming at first, though many translators do try to explain them in the notes. Just for the sake of those who want to know before starting watching, here’s what might make your life easier:
Cultivators - people a little like mages, except they have flying swords and generally are well-versed in martial arts. Usually their purpose is to battle evil supernatural beings. In some stories they are ageless (as in, they don’t grow old) and very hard to kill, in others it’s toned down. Above a certain level, they often train by remote meditation.
Golden Core/Core Formation - sth like the source of their power?... Not exactly, but they have to form it through training if they want to use advanced techniques. It’s situated somewhere between chest and belly, I suck at anatomy, don’t kill me.
Paper talismans  - rectangular pieces of paper that are amazingly easy to toss at your enemies. Used for casting spells, easy to understand just by watching. Also if they seem to be glued to sth, then they usually serve as a seal of some kind.
Various demons/spirits/other magical beings - gosh, there’s a ton. TBH I don’t even know if some aren’t completely made-up by the authors for the sake of their stories. Generally be ready that a new demon/beast/something can jump out from every corner, and the characters are going to know what it is, while you don’t. Resentful energy seems to often be tied to them, as in, it’s what often fuels them.
All right, without further ado, here’s what I’ve tried already. The list is more or less in the order of recommendation, aka from those I liked best to those that I didn’t like at all.
Tumblr media
Title: Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Grandmanster of Demonic Cultivation
Throughline: The supposed villain of the cultivators’ world gets reincarnated into an adult’s body 13 years after his death. Things escalate from there.
My take:
+ my entry point into donghua.
+ I was hesitant to watch because of the BL tag, but there really is no need to get scared by it. There’s plot proper, well-developed characters, both main and side, and overall this clearly is a fantasy series with a romance rather than a romance with fantasy setting.
+ beautiful art and great animation with only sparse moments when CGI looks kinda clanky.
+ wonderful music, too.
+ honestly though, I’ve been on a low when I came across it and was brought back to life. It’s been a long, long time since I fangirled over a series so much.
+ if you follow my blog you must’ve already seen about it.
+ Just give it a try, OK?
- some things in the beginning are not clearly explained and many names get tossed in at once; especially if you don’t know any Chinese, they might all sound the same. The characters also all have long black hair and bishe faces. I recommend first checking them online and memorizing at least the main casts, it really makes watching it much easier - focus on the bangs and clothes, and try to remember their names. Or you can always rewatch the beginning after you get better at recognizing who is who.
- the cut to flashbacks is confusing, as it happens at the very end of episode 2. Then episodes 3 to 14.5 take place in the past - another thing that’s not super clear and worth keeping in mind.
Tumblr media
Title: Di Wang Gong Lue / The Emperor’s Strategy
Throughline: The Emperor and his loyal noble ally take on many problems that befall the country.
My take:
+ This is the closest series to “Mo Dao Zu Shi” I found so far, though there aren’t that many specific similarities. Only the overall ‘feel’ is similar.
+ Also tagged BL, but TBH, if I didn’t know about it before watching, I still wouldn’t know it.
+ The relationship between the two main characters is like, funny and cute at the same time.
+ Politics and fantasy intertwined.
+ Also a lot of interesting side characters, though maybe they could’ve been given more screen time.
+ great character designs and music.
- animation. It looks like anime from around the year 2000, even though the series came out in 2018.
- some flashback stuff seems really cheesy. There’s not a lot of it, thankfully.
- the first three or four episodes aren’t very engaging. I got invested around episode 5, though as you see, the beginning isn’t so terrible that you can’t wade through it.
Tumblr media
Title: Mi Yu Xing Zhe / Uncharted Walker
Throughline: A group of people are put on a tropical island, forced to play an escape game under extreme circumstances.
My take:
+ an interesting set of characters with various backgrounds, most of them likable or at least understandable.
+ despite the setup, it’s not as bloody as many similar series. Characters can die, but they don’t die that often, which really builds tension and keeps you on the edge of the seat, because when there’s a close-to-death moment, you never know if it’s one when the character will really die or when they get rescued last-minute.
+ there is a very strong “game” feeling to this, where characters generally have to figure out how to use their resources to overcome various obstacles.
+ some psychological stuff here and there.
+ very good animation and designs.
-/+ there are borderline supernatural elements, though generally playing pretend at scientific. I personally don’t mind it, but some people might be put off or disappointed.
- it turns much more creepy in the last 3 or so episodes, to the point that it becomes more of a horror than a survival and mystery story. Even worse, the horror stuff comes in a setup that’s pretty realistic, so I have flashback ‘till this day (I don’t like horrors, and being realistic makes it much worse). TBH if I knew, I’d probably resign from watching, because as much as I enjoyed everything up until that part, the creeps aren’t worth it... However, perhaps you like horrors better than I do.
- a HUGE cliffhanger at the end. But like, HUUUUUGE HUGE.
Tumblr media
Title: Shuangsheng Lingtan /  Twin Spirit Detectives
Throughline: Twin brothers take on cases of supposed supernatural phenomena, bent on proving that they are not real - only that one of them appears to be a ghost himself...
My take:
+ interesting setup.
+ detective stuff - I have a soft spot for mysteries.
+ likable main characters and a few well-developed side characters, too.
+ animation is overall quite good.
+ has a solid arc, though with an open ending and kinda a cliffhanger about a side character at the end.
-/+ bordering on the supernatural territory again.
- horror elements, but thankfully, this time they aren’t that realistic.
- some things in the first few episodes feel rushed or not properly developed (apparently the issue is with the donghua adaptation, and the original manhua had a slower beginning).
Tumblr media
Title: Quan Zhi Gao Shou /  The King’s Avatar
Throughline: The top player of “Glory” is forced to give up his account and retire for a year. What will he do now?
My take:
+ a decent setup, though it gets old quickly.
+ a large cast of interesting character with various strengths and weaknesses and strongly-defined personalities.
+ great art style and characters’ design.
+ great animation during fights.
- the main character. Just. I’ve rarely encountered such a Gary Stue, I really wish I could see him lose for real. Like, I’m OK with him beating noobs, that’s realistic, but he doesn’t stop even after other pros come into play.
- the plot seems generally directionless so far, and gets tiring easily.
- originally I was supposed to binge-watch it with friends as a series none of us knew beforehand, but we gave up after 6 episodes and I switched it to MDZS instead. I finished it alone later, and mostly for the sake of the side characters and animation.
- it is generally watchable, but like, far from best.
This point marks the end of series I watched whole. The following are series I dropped after 5-6 episodes (which I consider a fair amount).
Tumblr media
Title: Ling Qi / Spritpact
Throughline: A guy dies and is given an ultimatum - to pass away or become a spirit companion of a demon-battling, Korean priest.
My take:
+ setup and world building. This seems just like the kind of fantasy that fits my taste.
+ ...character design is not terrible, I guess?
+ apparently the animation gets better in season 2.
+ the demon-battling priest seems like a character archetype I might like.
+/- TBH this series wasn’t tragic, I may still go back to it one day, if I really feel like it. The idea has potential and the plot probably gets better later, I just wasn’t able to prevail until then.
- animation in the first season is kinda meh. Could be worse, but it still doesn’t please. Don’t let the marvelous poster above deceive you!
- the main character. He’s so whiny, I was unable to stand him. He’s the main reason I dropped this, and I honestly have no idea if he gets any better later.
Tumblr media
Title: Quanzhi Fashi / Full-Time Magister
Throughline: Three months after a guy gets transported into a magic-filled alternative reality, he struggles to get into magic school to become the best mage and get a lot of money for his family.
My take:
+ setup/world building again hit a soft spot in my fantasy-loving heart.
+ ...I’ve seen some fragments from season 2, apparently animation is good there.
- I hated the MC of QZGS, but he at least had half a reason to be so unrealistically OP. This guy here... he’s a new low... Basically “How to Write a Gary Stu?” example. Like. C’mon. You can have an OP cool protagonist without making them a GS.
- despite the potentially interesting premise, this is as simplistic as it could be. The MC is ridiculed, but he turns out to be super powerful with talent for not just one, but two most rare elemental magics. He gets bullied - then he shows off how much better he is than the bully during magic exams, stunning everybody. One of the Big Bad Rich Guys tries to recruit him - he flat-out refuses in a infuriatingly arrogant manner. Etc. etc.
- Characters are as deep as a puddle during drought.
- Look, there’s a set of tropes that are generally laughed at in this type of premise, like the MC having an OP secret power, getting put down by everybody to an unrealistic degree etc. Here they are played painfully straight, and there’s nothing more to the story. Absolutely nothing, not a single interesting character or plot thread. I kept watching for so long hoping that something would turn up, but it didn’t.
- animation in season 1 is pretty bad.
That would be all for my donghua experience so far. I had many ups, though I guess some salt pits were unavoidable +_+

“Quan Zhi Gao Shou” - Art and Translation
Tumblr media
As many of you on Tumblr may have noticed, the fandom for “Quan Zhi Gao Shou” / “The King’s Avatar” / “Master of Skill” has not become fully developed yet. However, in China, the fandom is far more advanced, as the light novel was written in 2013 by Butterfly Blue (蝴蝶蓝). For those interested in the light novel, you can read them on Qidian or Gravity Tales. A manhua was also drawn as well by artist D.LAN.
As I was searching the web for fanart, I came across a major (at least to me!) discovery: China’s version of Tumblr, Lofter! From there, I found a few art blogs with plenty of QZGS art. Since QZGS has literally been out for around four years in China, I’m not surprised by the amount of art and shipping! Listed below will be some of those links plus a small translated list of Chinese names in the anime.
Some Lofter blogs. Please support the artists and do not repost their art on Tumblr!
Hello_Rabby - I came across this first site via the art in the end credits in the anime; lots of Yu Wenzhou and Huang Shaotian
呪禁分歧 - also from end credits
+LC斐尔+ - lots of Zhou Zekai and Ye Xiu shipping
无罪之罪
Anserenia - thank you to Shinageha on Tumblr for this recommend!
And now, a list of relevant names translated from Chinese to English.
全职高手 - Quan Zhi Gao Shou -  高手 literally means “master” which explains the other names “The King’s Avatar” and “Master of Skill”
叶修 /  叶秋 -  Ye Xiu / Ye Qiu - 秋 is literally translated as “autumn,” hence the name of his previous character, One Autumn Leaf
君莫笑 - Lord Grim -  君 literally means “lord” while 莫笑 literally means “do not smile,” hence “Lord Grim”
千机伞 - Thousand Chance Umbrella, Lord Grim’s weapon
一叶之秋 -  One Autumn Leaf - Battle Mage, known as the “Battle God,” currently being used by Sun Xiang
陈果 - Chen Guo, owner of the internet cafe, plays a Launcher called Chasing Haze (逐烟霞)
苏沐橙 - Su Mucheng, pro-player of Excellent Era, plays a Launcher, known as Dancing Rain professionally (沐雨橙风) and as Cleansing Mist (风梳烟沐) in the 10 server
包子入侵 - Steamed Bun Invasion
唐柔 - Tang Rou, plays a Battle Mage called Soft Mist (寒烟柔)
神之领域 - Heavenly Domain - the main server where all the normal servers can meet up and play

喻文州 - Yu Wenzhou, captain of Blue Rain, plays a Warlock called Swoksaar, known for his “disabled hands” (slow APM)
黄少天 - Huang Shaotian, vice captain and ace of Blue Rain, a chatterbox who plays as a Blade Master called Troubling Rain (夜雨声烦), nicknamed the “Sword Saint,” temporarily known as Flowing Tree in the 10 server
许博远 - Xu Boyuan, the guild leader for Blue Brook guild in the 10th server, plays as a Blade Master called Blue River (蓝河) - also known as Blue Bridge Spring Snow (蓝桥春雪) in the Heavenly Domain
魏琛 - Wei Chen, former captain for Blue Rain, plays a Warlock called Windward Formation, nicknamed “Old Wei”

Quan Zhi Gao Shou / The King’s Avatar Manhua (Chapters 6-10)
Onto the next five chapters! Thank you to everyone who read my weird ramblings in the first part!
There will probably be some overlap between this liveblog and my liveblog of the novel, but I’ll try to minimize it.
Chapter 6: Thief Shouting Thief
Tumblr media
How nice of you to offer to help dry clean his coat, Chen Guo!
xD Ye Xiu’s “Oh...” reaction.
Tumblr media
Ah, so he actually said this through audio. I couldn’t tell when I read this part in the novel. That makes it funnier, him saying it with that flat expression. And Sleeping Moon’s “Hello my ASS” comment haha.
Tumblr media
Decided to live up to that ‘shameless’ label, I see. The funny thing about this being in-game is that you can have that comedic moment of Sleeping Moon pointing up at the banner and have it not be a sort of fourth wall thing you’re supposed to ignore for the sake of the story. Like, the notification can actually be on screen here.
Did you not learn your lesson, like you really think you can screw him over, haha.
The names aren’t as fun this time around, though: Drifting Water, Sunset Clouds, Seven Fields. I think these guys have more experience than the previous party though, so perhaps that is meant to reflect that.
Tumblr media
lol this time, no one is fooled. I love the chibis. Everyone’s expressions are really great throughout this thing, actually.
Actually it’d be better to say: use him for hard labor, then kick him out.
I LOVE THE HONESTY. AND THE IRONY.
Tumblr media
You actually made your in-game avatar yawn. I know it’s a first person game and this is technically just an expression of the characters in real life for the benefit of the readers, but.
Tumblr media
There was no way to represent the hilarity of these panels without screenshotting them all. Their progression through the cave, each expression changing with each panel, the little “being careful” vs. “vigorous strides”. I love how they’re so on edge, and Ye Xiu is looking bored. And Sleeping Moon looks like a scary imp.
Tumblr media
I need to make icons of all the funny expressions made in this manhua or something.
lol after their wild theorizing on how he could be that good or pull off those combos, they then go “you know what, we shouldn’t piss this guy off” to being in awe of his skill.
Chapter 7: A Showdown in Spider Cave
Tumblr media
T-the little chibi characters trying to climb up giant Lord Grim...it’s so cute.
Tumblr media
LITTLE MOON MOON. I actually remember this from the animation, but it’s still hilarious.
AH. It’s Blue Brook Guild’s arrival on scene...They’re half the reason I got so confused with all the names in the first place. Their names all follow a theme and they’re too similar urgh. Ok. I’ll get it straight this time.
Tumblr media
Pretty boy here is Blue River, yes?
Lol, DRAMATIC FIRST KILL CLAIMING SHOT--
Oh, never mind someone beat you to it!
Tumblr media
lol someone who’s not freaking out about it right this moment. I liked Blue River in the animation, he was a fun character.
Chapter 8: Seizing first kill by ten seconds’ lead
They needed 11 ellipses for the silence that befell them after they were done killing the boss.
And back with the ragtag team with Lord Grim...they’re singing his praises up the wall.
Tumblr media
Poor Little Moon Moon. Why do I keep screencapping him? His super dejected expressions are gold, that’s why.
He’s a far cry from his confident, smug first appearance:
Tumblr media
remember when he had some class?? xD
Ah, I remember when everyone started calling him Little Moon Moon too xD I love how no one even listens when he threatens them to stop calling him that.
We’re all adults here. Don’t be childish. It’s just a game. Don’t let this upset you.
words of wisdom to live by. too bad a lot of people are so horrible at this irl.
Blue River’s manhua version is so pretty...I have a weakness for bishounen characters, ok. Even if he’s currently just a character in a game and I don’t know what his real life character looks like.
Tumblr media
OH GOD. it’s the nice ones that snap first.
I wish they would decide whether they want to censor curse words or not...I’m not going crazy, am I? It was spelled out some chapters ago.
CHEN GUO. “You don’t want to live anymore!?” She went to sleep, got up in the morning when it’s nice and sunny, and he’s still playing...Furthermore, he’s teamed up with the guy who trash talked him and everyone is willingly giving up drops to him. No wonder she’s bewildered.
Tumblr media
I mean, it’s stopped absolutely no one before, but yes he has a point.
“You not only transformed your foes, you made them your followers as well!?”
The madness and shenanigans of the 10th server are just beginning.
Tumblr media
What a handsome Ye Xiu. You do not look like you pulled an all-nighter. You should be dead on your feet.
But aww, Chen Guo fixed up the spare room for him. She did feel bad about it earlier, I remember from the novel.
Uh, is he taking his shirt off to sleep in the middle of winter...? he didn’t bring a change of clothes or anything either.
Chapter 9: I was exiled to to the Qin Mountains in the autumn wind
What’s with the chapter title this time around? I think I’m missing so many references here.
The press conference and announcement of Ye Qiu’s retirement was a strong moment in the animation, and it’s presented nicely here as well. The look on Ye Xiu’s face is particularly painful, as he stands alone in the back of the room essentially watching the last 7 years of his life summed up on screen.
As well as Chen Guo being absolutely devastated that her idol retired. Haha, he’s still coming out right and telling her his identity, but she doesn’t believe him.
The irony in asking if he wants tissues to cry over Ye Qiu’s retirement, and he says “Why would I? How could I ever cry?” when he really has the most cause to cry out of anyone at that moment.
Tumblr media
For someone who was never into publicity and stuff, he has a suuper charismatic smile apparently. Look at that thing.
omg yeah I remember now, Sleeping Moon being a fan of Ye Qiu and depressed that he retired. Must be so awkward for Ye Xiu.
Speaking of awkward, he feels awkward having to keep relying on the others, in his words ‘free labor’ lol. I don’t think his feelings were so clear in the animation.
Wow, these skeletons are well-drawn. And wonderfully gross.
Chapter 10: At the blue bridge, you returned to Changan with the spring snow
Tumblr media
Had to take this page directly, I wanted to get a better look at all the character designs. Aaah, I really love the designs. All the little details~
Ooh, so this is where the manhua works in its explanation of the weapon types. Nice little graphics to go with it too.
Tumblr media
Was this the best image to pick to go along with the idea of ‘professional research facility to create silver weapons’...?
So Blue River is Blue Bridge Spring Snow, but in the 10th server. Thaaat’s not confusing at all. (his name is a reference to the chapter title which is a line from a poem, right?)
T-the Cleric’s name is Bound Boat...
Tumblr media
I didn’t recognize her at first either. HAHA Ye Xiu was also surprised.
I do like Chen Guo’s explanation why she doesn’t think Ye Qiu should retire, she’s quite perceptive and analytical. Even though this is her idol, she sees that his performance hasn’t been good and that was probably why Excellent Era used him as a scapegoat over the years (apparently more than once).
Tumblr media
Once again, the designs are so nice. And we get a little sneak peek of the real people behind the characters.
lol Ye Xiu not listening to Chen Guo at all. SHE WAS ONTO SOMETHING, TOO.
“But that machine’s the server!” “I’m the boss.” hehe Chen Guo is too much.
“I forgot to read the guide.”
oh no. so much for mr. textbook player.

Attention
Dear followers of this blog! Due to certain international events posting in this blog might be technically difficult. I’ll use all available for me means to post here about “The King’s Avatar” because I’m still interested in it myself.  In any case, you can always join discord, read TKA novel and manhua on webnovel.com (or just search online), look for the TKA news directly on QZGS weibo and merchandise on taobao - you can also find links in this blog.

Note
What is it about King's Avatar that you love? What made you feel passionate enough to make a side blog about it?
Hello! I won’t call that feeling a ‘passion’, it’s more like a ‘desperation’ to find something about QZGS in English (because I can’t read its original language) here on tumblr where I have an active account. I wanted to find some information about the novel and an upcoming at that time anime, some art/illustrations.
What I love about TKA? I like humor in this novel, I like that characters for the most are adults (I am tired of ‘an ordinary highschool student’ characters…), I like how I can read about gaming (although i am not a gamer, just watching other people play was enough for me) and even if I can’t visualize moves/skills it’s still interesting for such a noob as me. I like this balance between a virtual world and a real life - we don’t have characters “stuck’ in a virtual world as I see in a lot of works. I like characters’ personalities, even ‘bad guys’ are no different from us, their motives are understandable too.
But I must admit - I’d never learn about Quan Zhi Gao Shou if I hadn’t seen manhua first. This cover illustration has been attracting my attention for some time before I’ve decided to have a look!
Tumblr media
And manhua was (is) such a feast for my eyes that its original source couldn’t be worse - and it appears that I was right.
