On April 4, 2012 I left my sexual, physical, mental, emotional and financial abuser. That was the day that I started to rebuild my life. I left because I knew that was going to be the last day of my life if I didn't do something! I pulled my friend/co-worker into my managers office and told them everything that happened to me for the past 3 1/2 years...…they were the first people that I shared my story with. My manager and his wife shared their home with me for a few days until it felt safe enough for me to stay with my mom and brother.  This is a day of thanks!  I have truly been living for the past 8 years and I am so proud of myself and grateful to everyone who has helped me take my life back! THANK YOU to: My manager for sharing your home with me, taking me to the police station, going to the bank, going to collect my belongings from the abusers house and for being my strength when I didn't have any! My mom and brother for sharing their home with me and making sure that I was safe and never alone during those first few difficult weeks! My sister and brother in law for coming to court with me while I obtained my restraining order. My art and creation of Freedom4Ewa, if not for you I might not be here today! While I was getting ready for my kids group this afternoon I opened up a box of crayons.....for a moment I remembered how much I loved the smell of crayons! Why? My senses triggered my childhood memories. My coloring books and crayons were my comfort and escape from an abusive house. My crayons and coloring book gave me control over my life, even if it was only for a few minutes. It brought me comfort and peace.
