Someone got mad that I cosplay Qui-Gon, probably because I rock a beard better than they could 🤷‍♀️
Cosplay is for every gender! Within or outside of your own, cosplay whatever gender makes you happy!

Face reveal??? I guess???
Went to comic con today and it was my first time cosplaying, and it was utterly amazing! I had so much fun and meeting a Vergil first thing and getting photos made me feel so much more confident about everything. Can’t wait to do it again!

Some highlights of Comic Con Paris (where I was this weekend):
- a cosplayer dressed as that picture of liam neeson as qui-gon with a rainbow umbrella (the guy even had long grey-ish hair, he looked so much like Liam neeson!)
- a boba fett with a hawaiian shirt and skirt(?)
- Anthony Daniels. This man is hilarious, I wasnt expecting it x)
- my sister asking me which anime a bunch of people in fursuits were dressed as (she doesn't know what a furry is)
- a LOT of star wars cosplays (my Anakin cosplay wasn't very original lol)
- a group of deadpools doing the spiderman meme pointing at each other
- a few barbies (but no kens 😞)
- really cool costumes at the cosplay competition, including a dragon woman, a somewhat biblically accurate angel (both had moving wings), an iron man with the infinity glove lighting up and a helmet that opened on its own, a chainsaw man with moving chainsaws and smoke coming out of it, a really cool clone trooper, a palpatine that had the perfect palpatine walk, and Harley Queen and Poison Ivy kissing on stage.

I have been absolutely overwhelmed with the love on my Qui-Gon “don’t let the trolls dictate your cosplay” video! I’m so glad you all enjoy my beard. 😎
As much as I love the makeup transformation, I’m also incredibly proud that I built almost everything for this cosplay myself, so here’s a look at that process which spanned several months 😜
As always, happy to answer questions about how this became a reality!
Everything made (pants were thrifted/boots thrifted and modified) by me apart from the following— Lightsaber: @darkwolfsabers Pouches: kit from @printedpropz Food capsules: file from TheJazzyWorkshop on Etsy / printed by @jobielee

When Subtext Is Text, Musings On Ferus Olin
It's the end of Pride month, and Legends Con Executive Director Katherine is taking the opportunity to talk about one of her favorite characters (and most recent cosplays), Ferus Olin. Ferus is one of the canonically queer characters in the Star Wars Legends timeline; and is, in her humble opinion, one of the most interesting representations of a queer character within the Star Wars universe.
Ferus comes from the Jude Watson books, first appearing in her Jedi Quest series and later leading the series Last of the Jedi. He also appeared in the Rebel Force series as a supporting character. All three of these series are Scholastic chapter books, published between the years of 2001 and 2010. They are progressive for their time in many ways, but are ultimately also a product of their time in how Ferus as a queer character is defined on the page. The line between subtext and text can be debated, but we have author confirmation via Twitter that Ferus is gay and married to Roan Lands. Roan was referred to as Ferus's "partner" throughout the Last of the Jedi and Rebel Force series. With these books being written throughout the 2000s, that was the current terminology used for gay couples at the time- and marriage was not even a legal option within the United States.
The term partner is really only the beginning of the signs we see in-text that Ferus and Roan are a couple. The most interesting of those to me is this passage from the first book in the Last of the Jedi series. Obi-Wan has just rescued Roan from Imperial prison after both Ferus and Roan were arrested for leading rebel activities and separated within the prison. As part of the misadventures that occurred with Obi-Wan and Ferus after that, they are forced to temporarily leave behind the planet Bellassa where Ferus had been living with Roan. While in space Ferus and Obi-Wan talk about how Ferus resigned from the Jedi Order (that’s another story entirely, I don’t want to get too off track here)
“It doesn’t matter,” Ferus said. “I walked away. It was the most difficult thing I ever had to do, but in a way I’m glad it happened.”
“You’re still a Jedi, Ferus.”
“No,” Ferus said slowly. “I’m not. I can never really be a Jedi again. Not just because I left the Order.” He looked back in the direction of Bellassa. “I have attachments.”
“Once there was something I wanted, something forbidden by the Jedi code,” Obi-Wan said. “Qui-Gon said something to me then. He said, maybe in a different galaxy things will change. The Jedi will change. Here is the change Ferus. And I think… in the new order, attachments will be a strength. Maybe this is how the galaxy will be saved. So yes, you are still a Jedi.”
Obi-Wan is referring to events of the Jedi Apprentice books, also by Jude Watson, where he entered a brief romance with one of his fellow Padawans, Siri Tachi. Obi-Wan and Siri decided to end their relationship due to the Jedi code, which led to that conversation with Qui-Gon. In the text this is Ferus saying that his relationship with Roan is outside the bounds of the Jedi code, and Obi-Wan draws a parallel to a romantic relationship of his own. I personally would call this plain text rather than subtext based on both the context in-universe and the context that this was written in 2005.
Throughout the story there are more signs that while subtle, Ferus and Roan’s relationship is romantic. It's the way they tease each other, care for each other, and little snippets about their life together-

Fandom Snowflake Challenge #14
Introduction Post* Meet the Mods Post * Challenge #1 * Challenge #2 * Challenge #3 * Challenge #4 * Challenge #5 *Challenge #6 * Challenge #7 * Challenge #8 * Challenge #9 * Challenge 10 * Challenge 11 * Challenge 12 * Challenge 13*
Remember that there is no official deadline, so feel free to join in at any time, or go back and do challenges you've missed.
I love how Snowflake inspires fans to leave their comfort zones and fly away from the mother ship. Fic readers discover writing talents, soon to be followed by illustrating fics, even sketching doodles from their own stories to show all the in-between steps of Loki shapeshifting into a mare. (It's canon!) So today is the day to spread your wings.
Challenge #14 Try something new. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Do you read fic? Then how about writing a little 'missing moment' scene, such as the day after Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn describes his ever-eager Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi as merely competent in Phantom Menace? Dip a toe into a community related to your interest to share insights, write a ship/fandom/character manifesto or just plain gab. If you listen to podcasts, explore one in a new fandom.
How about making icons or vids? Feeling fannish broadens horizons, so remix your own fic, bake that Death Star cake, crochet an awesome Kermit The Frog cap or write an unpopular character. You'll get creative juices flowing in cosplaying or planking to the tune of I'm Just Ken.
Extra added attraction: anything you do may be used for Challenge #11, Create A Fanwork!
As for me, I am a mod for the first time ever on the internet. *insert echo effect*
Check out the comments for all the awesome participants of the challenge and visit their journals/challenge responses to comment on their posts and cheer them on. (And because we were gifted with paid time for the month of January, you can search comments! So don’t forget to list the fandom(s) in your comment so people can search for it.)
And just as a reminder: this is a low pressure, fun challenge. If you aren't comfortable doing a particular challenge, then don't. We aren't keeping track of who does what.

Living In The Moment Artist Spotlight
Holly | redhothollyberries December Artist
How long have you been drawing? I've been drawing fanart since I was 13, I believe. I started out copy-tracing Inuyasha frames from the anime, freezing the video on my old laptop. Ahhhhh old days  I'm completely self-taught, my greatest regret is not throwing a bigger hissy fit with my parents to have them enroll me in an artisti high-school way back xD
When did you start drawing QuiObi? Like the day after watching The Phantom Menace, a few years ago LOL I came rather late to the Star Wars fandom. I joined the Star Wars roleplay community on tumblr and started writing and drawing right away. (I RP Qui-Gon :D)
What do you like about them as a ship? Oh dear. I guess I like that depending on how canon/fanom you go, you can get several dozen different kinds of interactions/dynamics between them. You'll likely never read two identical fics!
Thoughts about Star Wars in general? It's friggin' awesome. Much like a buffet lunch, it has a little bit of everything, and no one expects you to fully enjoy everything. People are free to pick and choose, but also to go on deep lore dives like I've never seen.
How would you describe your style? I like flat, bright colours, and lately I've been specializing in starry skies! If you see one of those, you know it's my stuff :D
What kind of art do you most like to create? I love creating stuff, I like to think that the weapons I create for my cosplays are small artworks. Second to that, I love to digitally paint fanart.
Any thoughts you’d like to share on the Living In The Moment project? That I'm honoured and hyped up so much I could vibrate into the next dimension. My name is going to be up THERE, next to some of my very favourite artists! I can't BELIEVE this is really happening. I'm going to hang my calendar on my wall and never ever take it down.

Announcing the Shadowrun Art Contest!
For more than thirty years, Shadowrun has produced some of the coolest cyberpunk art around, inspiring fans across the globe to create their own characters and campaigns within the game universe. Many Shadowrun artists and writers started off as fans, so we thought there was no  better way to encourage the creativity of the next wave of artists than with a friendly contest.
Catalyst Game Labs is seeking submissions for the 2022 Shadowrun Fan Art Competition. Multiple kinds of art are allowed, from illustration to cosplay!
To support your efforts, we’re releasing our Shadowrun Artist Handbook, which offers an overview of typical image contents, as well as tips and tricks for making a piece of art look more like Shadowrun. You can download the handbook and sample images here.
Sounds like fun—right, chummer? So get ready to bust out your pencils, paints, cameras, or Photoshop, and show us your stuff!
Contest Timeline
The contest will be open to submissions  from August 1 to September 1, 2022. Late submissions will still be viewed and enjoyed, but please get them to us before the deadline if you want to be considered for the prizes.
Catalyst reserves the right to alter the deadline without notice and for any reason.
Submission Requirements
All submissions should be sent via e-mail to [email protected] with the subject line “Shadowrun Art Competition.”
All submissions should include the following:
The artist or photographer’s legal name and primary e-mail address.
The artist’s handle or studio name (only if you prefer not to use your real name in the public gallery).
A link to your online portfolio if you’d like that displayed with your submission.
Image submission proofs at 100 DPI/PPI. (We highly recommend keeping your full-res version at 300+!)
Indicate whether you are under the age of 18.
Anything else you think we should know about you or the art!
Terms and Conditions
By submitting work to this contest, you accept the terms and conditions outlined below.
For purposes of this competition, “art” refers not only to grayscale or color illustrations but also to photography or sculpture. Cosplay photography is allowed and encouraged. Multimedia presentations, such as video, will not be considered as submissions, but feel free to share them with us anyway!
Submitted images must feature a Shadowrun scene, character, or setting. Please avoid including anything outside of Shadowrun canon, such as characters or logos from other franchises. Despite our love for them, character mashups, like Qui-Gon Harlequin or Darth Dunkelzahn, are heavily discouraged and may not be included in public materials.
Artists of all ages are welcome to submit, but applicants below the age of 18 should notify us when submitting. This is so we can make special arrangements if age-sensitive prizes are awarded.
All submitted artwork must be original works to which you own clear legal rights. This goes not only for the overall image, but also for any recognizable references or photobashed elements in it.
Artists who have worked for Shadowrun in the past are eligible to submit, but with a few caveats: (1) When submitting, you must let us know where you were previously published. (2) You cannot submit previous commissioned work for the contest. (3) Be aware that your submission may be isolated into its own separate category, which may or may not be eligible for a prize.
Images reflecting real-world racist, sexist, or otherwise bigoted attitudes will be disqualified. This does not apply to depictions of in-universe bigotry, as long as said depictions are tastefully handled. Catalyst reserves the right to determine what’s inappropriate.
Taboo topics, such as violence and sexuality, may be present in your submissions, but we reserve the right to reject any image we view as going too far.
We may approach some artists with an offer to buy the rights to their artwork for future publications. Artists should understand that certain images will not be published in the game line without modifications to make the content compatible with our standard print guidelines. Determination of editorial needs—and execution of such edits—will be made by Catalyst and the Shadowrun Development Team.
By submitting, you grant Catalyst Game Labs permission to display your work in promotional materials relating to current and future art contests or fan-appreciation posts. Promotional materials may include mailing lists, social media, printed fliers, or an online publication featuring contest submissions. This does not transfer full copyright to Catalyst or extend usage rights beyond the aforementioned purposes.
Artists may withdraw their submissions up to 15 days after the contest deadline ends. Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected] and clearly identify the work being removed from consideration.
Judging
After the competition deadline, the Art Director will compile all the submissions and present them to the Development Team for review.
Final winners will be chosen and announced within 60 days of the contest deadline.
Prizes
Categories will be established based on submissions received, in order to best represent the images and their place in the Sixth World. This means the number of categories and prizes awarded may vary.
Winners of each category will receive a $200 gift certificate for the Catalyst online store.
