Taking a drag and then exhaling again, he watches as the smoke curls around his hand, the one that holds the lighter. With your image on it.

Do Ayame and Yuriko have their own familiars? Will Kotone get one too?
With Ayame and Yuriko, I'm not entirely sure. Not every witch has a familiar, which is Kotone's case right now as well.
Familiars often find their witch rather than the other way around.
Koromaru was waiting outside of the dorm when he met Minato. It wasn't until later that they learned Minato had formed a bond with him or that he even was a familiar (although Akihiko, Mitsuru and Ikutsuki had their suspicions.)
Tsubaki found her familiar -- a crow named Merlin -- when she was still a chick with an injured wing. Kept it a secret from her parents. It wasn't until after she was kicked out and Ren was born that someone told her that her familiar was as a good a mother as she was. Tsu legit thought that the crow just got attached to her and was friendly.
Morgana's sort of an exception, since Ren found him in Kamoshida's Palace. He was supposed to go and find Ren, but uh... yeah, he sort of forgot that he was supposed to do that.
Basically, I'm not sure if Ayame and Yuriko will have familiars. As of right now, Kotone doesn't have one and I have no plans for her to find one in the future.

I *do* still draw, and am even in the preliminary stages of making another comic series (in the script writing phase at the moment). ye olde energy levels/executive function ain't what they were 20 years ago, though, so it's been slow going. Headcanon that different creatures starts to seek out Kendra in the normal world because she is the Queen’s handmaiden and therefore the closest link to the Queen.
So it starts almost as soon as she leaves Fablehaven the first time, some fairy just wanting to see the handmaiden etc. And then they start asking for help, someone is capturing fairies and selling them, some lone dryad’s tree is being cut down and she wants Kendra to stop it.
And Kendra has no idea at first why everyone comes to her with their problems until someone finally tells her that she’s the handmaiden.
So after realizing that the Queen just left Kendra in the deep end some of the creatures tries to help her with her abilities.

Meanwhile the creatures realize that Kendra is helping them more than the Queen ever has and starts to make a plan to overthrow the Queen and put Kendra on the throne

It adds such a dynamic to book 2 as well, because she gets creepy thing coming in and just asks a fairy about it and the local magical creatures just fucking go off. Errol is sitting there going ???? And the poor creep is bolting for the mountains.
By the time book 3 rolls around Kendra is basically queen in all but name, book 4 she gets offered the crown and is like ????? While Raxtus is quietly fanboying over how cool she is.
This does allow her to have a diplomatic visit with celebrant, so it really speeds up the whole "get thing that fucking egg thief put in our fucking sanctuary we are not protecting his shit" thing (dragons don't like Patton, getting his stuff out is a high priority).
