Second part that takes place shortly after the panic attack scene in puss in boots the last wish. Cause dammit to hell these scenes are rooted deep within my brain.
Even the pure admittance that he’s afraid hurts him, he seems to have so much pride into what he is as a hero, that he can’t even fathom doing anything else with his life. Which might stem from what happened in the first movie. Cause as you know, puss had been crowned a hero at a very young age back at the village he grew up in. Which, thinking back, it doesn’t really sound like a good idea to give praises and gifts to a child before they fully had grasped the concept of modesty. Cause not only would it give the false impression in his mind that puss isn’t worth anything if he isn’t out there fighting, but would also cause him to grow arrogant in his actions, and with arrogance comes blindness to one’s surroundings. Cause why would puss even need to think about anything else except for the target right in front of him? And if something goes wrong along the way, he has enough courage and know how to easily get out of a tight spot. And with this thinking, it would give him false confidence, cause everyone roots for the hero right? That is until something happens to said hero and they get defeated by some villain that’s way stronger then them. Leaving said hero with a crushed ego, and there’s a chance that those same people out in the streets that were once rooting for him, would simply turn a blind eye to him upon finding out that their “favorite hero” isn’t as strong as they thought, leaving him in the dust.
“I am ashamed. I just wish that I hadn’t hurt her so badly. i regret that day.” HHHHHHHHHHHHH THE PURE SADNESS IN HIS VOICE…!!! You can tell that he feels so bad about hurting kitty that he can barely put it to words. And when purrito suggests that he should tell kitty about how he feels, he looks so damn defeated, like he doesn’t believe for one second that she would believe him. Cause to him, she had made it quite clear that she didn’t want anything to do with him.
And he knows that! He knows that he hurt her, in his fear of commitment, he ended up inadvertently hurting the love of his life. And that’s not something he can easily forgive himself for, cause even after the events of the movie, he would still feel scared that he could somehow ruin things with her again, and that’s where communication comes in. Cause the thing to having a relationship last is having the courage to be honest with their spouse, and talk to them about the things that bother them. Even the not so nice parts.
Also at the end when kitty calls out to them, pretending that she wasn’t ease dropping on them, puss jumps and turns his back to her to rub his eyes. Which might suggest that he had been crying, or was at least close 🥺
