i killed. i murdered. i'm nothing like these sleepy people here… nevertheless, you can actually be grateful? bastard… i’m saying… thank you. because you spilled blood, you saved all of these people’s lives. i couldn’t have done it without you. (ID in alt)
#vashwood#vash the stampede#nicholas d wolfwood#trigun#trigun maximum#participated in altades' dance collab :3 very grateful for the opportunity and many thanks to them for organizing this!#there was a lot of vw arc choices... but i went for the leonof arc bc it's a dear vw moment to me#i think a lot of the leonof arc further breaks down vash's ideology and for the readers - together with ww- to learn that his ideals aren't#pure naivety and that vash knows he's at an odd standpoint with himself. he's criticized ww for shooting rai-dei just prior when ww had don#so on the behalf of vash but here he thanks him for killing on behalf of his home and its genuine. bc vash's presence - although it's not#his fault - he was the reason leonof and gray had gotten to the ship and killed people there. that's the guilt he has to live with and#despite his anger he'd still resolute not to kill. meanwhile ww just did what he had to - beating down on a seemingly immortal monster but#at the core made up of many lives he had to take and i feel as the fight dragged on - his own mentality waned. committing active carnage#while remembering the orphanage... and bearing that guilt alongside the words vash left with him during rai-dei's death#only for vash to thank him afterwards what he's done and for apologizing for pushing his beliefs on ww when he had no solutions of his own#anyway. i just have so an immense love for this arc bc they just got around to appreciating each other in weird ways. though ofc its still#weird and confusing for ww bc every new info on vash it'll just be strange to him as someone who's human#ruporas art

spiderpeople that could defeat spot first try:
1. spider-ham (cartoon logic dictates that he can just pick up the holes)
2. sun-spider (disabled solidarity. would probably get spot to come to the realization that hes 100% disabled and be empathetic about it)
3. spider-punk (would explain that a majority of spots problems originate from the shitty system hes in and that capitalism is the problem, not miles)

i wonder how much of the common fandom misconception that the dark side is not actually bad comes from a misunderstanding of where the dark side actually comes from. from what i gather from folks who argue that the dark side isn't actually bad, it seems they think that someone falls to the dark side because they 'care too much' or because of anger over some injustice that must be corrected. if this were true, then the dark side seems pretty reasonable or even the right thing to do, especially for those of us who've felt that anger in real life due to an injustice we've faced and used it to galvanize our actions
but the dark side isn't rooted in anger. it's rooted in fear -- fear of loss of power, or control, or life, or another person. fear that can lead to anger, yes, but it's not the righteous anger of a protector for those less fortunate, but an anger that twists one's principles and causes hate and suffering. honestly, the dark side has more in common with the hateful people in real life who cause the very injustices we're angry about, who are often also afraid of a (perceived) loss of power that leads them to mistreat others

CRAZY being like "oh I want to keep my pet healthy, maybe I should look into upgrading to a higher quality food" and you do a bunch of googling abt what percentages of fat/protein/etc a food should be and you find the stuff that's the Most Recommended for dog health or whatever it is, and then you look at the reviews for what is apparently a very reputable brand and it's like DOG DIED DOG HAD BLOODY DIARRHEA DOG IS LOSING FUR I FED MY PUPPY THIS AND HIS KIDNEYS ALMOST SHUT DOWN AT 3MO OLD DOGS VOMITED HAD TO BE ON FLUIDS AT THE VET like. huh... I know it goes against the whole point of the story of TLOU but I want to see Sarah survive. I want to see sarah and joel navigate this new broken world that is slowly repairing itself into something not quite mundane but the closest it can get over the first few years after the outbreak begins. I want to see sarah grapple with this new side of her father she never knew existed and that is exists solely to keep her safe in a world where death is always inching closer. I want to see them go from suffocating military outposts to abandoned houses in the middle of nowhere where they jump at each noise. I want to see Joel teach Sarah how to shoot a gun and ready herself for the kickback because she’s still so small and he doesn’t want her to get knocked over from it. I want to see joel struggle in his role as a protector to try and keep his sweet little girl young and innocent as long as he can but he can’t. She’s experience the horror just the same as him and changed because of it and one day he looks at her and realizes she isn’t the same little girl that woke him up on his birthday because he slept through his alarm, and she never will be. I want to see Joel get into an argument with her because shes buying into the firefly propoganda just like Tommy and god damnit he can’t loose her too. I want to see them shouting at eachother before they go dead silent and sit next to one another and he pulls her into his arms as tears run down his face because she’s all he truly has left. I want to see these two settle down in that shitheap apartment in the QZ and Sarah doing whatever she can to make it feel like home.

As a continuation of this ask that I responded to, all the things I mentioned are just parts of the overall issue I have with Blades…. which is that, in the grand scheme of things, I feel like MC is simply a plot device for the other characters rather than a fully developed character who has a fully developed and satisfying arc herself. It’s clear that Nia’s is the story the writers really wanted to tell considering how intertwined her characterization/development and the overall world building are. They basically even admitted as much.
So my question is why not just make her the MC if that’s really what you wanted on the not so down low? They still could’ve incorporated the skill mechanic. Why create a whole player character just to have us running to solve everyone else’s problems/support them while acting like everything that happens to us exists inside of a vacuum in the meantime? So far, all we’ve really been doing in this book is reporting where the group needs to go, telling them what to do, having heart to hearts with them when they need help moving to the next stage of their development, and then being spoonfed information through the lore tablets, which are apparently more for the players’ benefit than MC’s since they barely affect how we respond in game anyway. I’m fine with being the leader or the glue that holds everyone together, but to me it’s unsatisfying that that’s all we are as the main character.
We somehow become more competent due to the skill mechanic but no less clueless at the same time. We have all this terrible shit happen to us, but are only offered a few lines’ description of how that’s affected us. And then the rest of the attention goes to setting up the light vs. shadow conflict and our friends, who get to have personal and compelling conflicts of their own. I mean I feel like MC is more of an emotional support animal to them than an actual person with dreams, feelings, and a (minimal) background. Imo the only character who’s getting shafted almost as much as us is Imtura.
And all of this might make it sound like I hate Blades, but it’s quite the contrary actually. It’s still one of my favorite series and has a lot of fun moments and lovable characters. But I think at this point, its flaws have become too large for me to ignore. So that’s still affecting my enjoyment a bit and probably the reason why I’m so upset with how certain things are being handled. Of course I’m aware that Blades isn’t the only book that has some of these issues though. I think it’s just a little more disappointing because I expected more
