ok, so, when i first read the kingdoms i was having a really hard time cracking kite and agatha’s personalities and how they complement each other, because they obviously do but i wasn’t sure in what exact way

i think it’s about how they are both, whether by circumstance or by nature, very much pragmatic people. they both take actions with the intention of an end result, and typically that result is what really matters. obviously they have other traits that drive them too, but i think this is the common denominator between them. what differs is what actions they justify with that pragmaticism

agatha does bad things, or things she feels guilty about, and justifies them by telling herself it was necessary. and maybe it was. i honestly doubt there was any world were kite could have grown up in the enviornment that he did and not turn out kind of fucked up, and maybe it was for the better that she made sure he knew about the cruelties of the world. point is, agatha applies her pragmatism to the actions she feels are bad or neutral to live with the guilt. not too uncommon of a trait in characters

kite’s an interesting case though, because i get the distinct feeling that he applies it to the vast majority of his actions (disregarding some of the ones involving joe which are another mess) regardless of what moral value might be put on them. he treats his crew well, not just because he’s for the most part an actually kind person, but also because a crew that likes you is far more likely to obey you. (i actually heard an interview with natasha pulley where she attributed part of the french navy’s success in the napoleonic wars to the fact that they treated their sailors better)

and i know it might not seem like a revelation, but to me this was the key to reconciling all of kite’s seemingly contrary actions with each other. when he does things, part of his motivation so often seems to include the result that will come from it, not just the actions itself. and that can be applied to both his kindness to the people he captains and the bloodshed he causes without barely noticing it. it’s the same core trait found in agatha, just applied differently

#maybe i’m just rambling on #but it’s something i’ve been wanting to get out of my system #as somebody who is really fascinated by the fact that being pragmatic doesn’t actually have all about #doing shitty things for the ’greater good’ or whatever #it can be used by doing good and kind things #knowing that it will yield effective results #whatever. i’m going to sleep now #the kingdoms #natasha pulley #pulleyverse

i'm so so fucking tired

#today i vacuumed a Bunch of fixtures & replaced ALL the upstairs lightbulbs with warm LEDs instead of harsh white ones #and uninstalled the weird insufficient peg rack in the bathroom & spackled all the holes #and installed two new (normal) towel rods #and did a bunch of online shopping for more house things like coated steel clotheslines for the pulley system i'm setting up #and put away one of the three giant piles of clothes on my floor #and showered #i'm just so weary #first time using spackle & damn that shit is magical #$5 putty knife and it goes on So smooth #i am gonna get a LOT of practice bc the previous owners put nails for art EVERYWHERE #personal #my house in the middle of my street

considering the fact that he was struggling to hold Chris above his head (who is probably ~150lbs/68kg if i had to guess), i think he would definitely have a limit that's much lower than the weight of a whole ass whale JFJSHFJK

I just had a weird thought while enjoying some Boba tea.... how would the wakey wakey au unmasked lords react to Boba tea if given the opportunity to try it? Who likes it and who dislikes it? Those who do like it, what are their favorite flavors?

I know so very little about boba and have never had it before to give a good answer to this, outside of: its just a drink. With some food in it.

It does, however, feel like something Bright would attempt. "For science". Probably read one too many "[modern item] that would kill a medieval peasant" memes and wanted to test some out.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: In this Bible passage, Jesus tells a story about a rich guy who neglects Lazarus, a poor, starving man who lives just outside the rich guy's palace. One day, both men die. Lazarus arrives at Abraham's side in heaven while the rich man finds himself in the fiery torment of hell. The rich man begs Abraham to send Lazarus to quench his thirst, ordering around the poor man even in death. Abraham replies that Lazarus cannot do so. In the story, he says this with a strict, matter-of-fact tone, but in this cartoon, I've injected a bit of extra sass into Abraham's denial of service.

Man, I have such a clear image of like. The map of where one of my stories takes place, but if i even tried to put it to paper I'd fuck it up so badly

#like. there's this coastline that's kind of all juttery and stuff and it very gently dips inland down south but goes almost straight and #slightly outwards in the north and about midway along the coast in the east there's a little jut-out where there's a port #north of the port there's these steep cliff faces and down south they wear down into rolling hills and slim sandy shores #the east cape of the continent is up north just off the map by maybe 25000-27000 kilometers. west of the port there's the capital and north #of that is a small old mountain range #the capital is made up of limestone and brick buildings with 4 floors and a network of huge gears and weird pulley systems throughout. they #kind of look like they're almost leaning on each other and the further toward the edges of the town you go the more it looks like the city #home just sprouted in the middle of a storefront or an inn or something overnight #the town square is set up in the ruins of this ivory castle and taken up almost completely by stalls with colorful awnings. it has dark #cobblestone streets surrounding it and no pavements ending where the forged iron and brimstone walls of the administrative buildings'#front gardens begin or branching off further into the city down streets with pavement either side #there's a foundry on the edge of time by which most locals are employed. it has it's own dedicated train line which connects with the #station further south-east. the manors and estates outside of the city have lush forests and red brick walls closer to the residences of #workers and the nobles inhabiting the land #anyways. i'll probably workshop my beloved little steampunk city more later these are just like. notes to get down the image of it i have #in my head because it's so pretty. the stalls in the square look like colorful wild flowers from above <3 #boo rambles #unrelated
