There's a field at the far end of the local apple orchards, that has a public footpath running through it. We don't often go down there as it's off our usual little circuit but occasionally, for a change, we'll head over & explore. Last summer, the farmer had planted the field with sunflowers & you could walk through them. It was lovely, very pretty.
We'd not ventured there so far this summer & I was curious what was now growing in the Far Field, cause I could see it wasn't a regular crop, like wheat, or potatoes but I couldn't tell from a distance what it was.
So, today, we down to have a closer look. It's thistles! The entire field is a big old thistle forest. It's buzzing. Literally. So many bees!! There are stacks of bee hives up in the orchards & I'm guessing the thistles (& some other types of flowers, sprinkled among them) have been planted to provide food for pollinators?
Anyway, once I realised the field was a mass of prickly plants & stinging insects, I didn't feel overly enthused about walking down the very overgrown footpath. However, Flynn remembered there's a stream at the other end & he was determined to have a paddle, so off we went down a tunnel of thistles.
Flynn was fine - he's short enough to avoid the worst of the spikes & most of the bees. I followed very gingerly. Got scratched & prickled & poked by the plants but all I can say is that it's a good job our local bee population appears to be quite docile & relaxed about life because I definitely headbutted at least few of them on the way through & nobody stung me! So that was our Sunday afternoon adventure!
#bit naughty of the farmer to not leave more clearance for the footpath tbh#landowners have a duty to make sure any public footpaths across their land are accessible by walkers#and I'm not sure a tunnel of thistles counts as accessible!#although... I mean... we did make it to the stream & back in one piece#& I like that the thistles are attracting insects! saw plenty of bees & butterflies#I think thistles improve soil too? not sure#flynn#border collie#dog#summer#field#farmland#sunflowers#thistles#england

Saw this bloke talking to* some teenagers last week and I'm pleased to see he's causing havoc.
*generally being a horse near, sticking his head over the fence, asking for apples, directing people not to look at the "don't feed the horse" and the "don't pet the horse" signs
#if you want the local goss this farm illegally blocked off a public footpath during lockdown and everyone is mad at them#the angle of this photo is slightly misleading because there is city to either side of it#just uh. not in this direction#horse

Wonderful news, I've gotten permission from a farmer to plant some of my trees on his land
#its such a good spot#its open so there's plenty of sunlight#and near to a little drainage ditch so water gathers at that end of the field#and there's nearby trees of the same species so the soil ph must be good for them#and best of all it's on a public footpath so I can easily come back and visit them when I'm older

Whenever I'm a pedestrian I feel so powerful. I can go anywhere. I am not confined to these roads I can walk on almost any surface. I am unstoppable
#unfortunately the roads are better designed than the footpaths sometimes#or generally public transport and walking will take longer thsn car GRRRR#but i do feel powerful#I AM BETTER THAN YOUR CARS CONDEMNED TO THE ROADS!! I CAN GO ANYWHERE I AM SO POWERFUL#oh but unfortunately i get heat exhaustion

Please farmer, for the love of my sanity, harvest your corn fields already. Getting to the woods used to be a simple task, but now it is like playing an incredibly long and annoying round of Takeshi's Castle, where every single corn leaf wacks me in the face as I Naruto run my way through a never-ending tunnel of corn.

I am not going to lie folks. I am at the end of my ROPE I’m going to SNAP
#this is once again abt dumb stuff lol#I hate walking the dogs bc one of them is bad at being on a leash#and the other insists on eating everything she can get hold of#and then it’s muddy and someone shut off one of the public footpaths#which is probably not legal lol but I cba to chase it up#and both dogs bark IMPOSSIBLY loudly when it’s walk time#and they’re neither of them my dogs so there’s the added annoyance of the fact that. it wasn’t my responsibility to train them#and I knowwww when I get a dog two things I’m gonna focus on are making sure they’re calm. and leash training lol#I am not getting dragged around by a dog once I have my own it simply will not happen#and I will not be barked at.#also one of them slipped the leash at the start of the walk and she likes to try and hurl herself under cars so I was understandably worrie#I think I kept it together v well at that moment tho and she did come back when I called her#but it was nerve wracking#and then the other one kept trying to eat some prawns someone had dropped and like#I get it. overwhelming temptation. but I was busy trying to stop the other one jumping under a bus#and then when they get back in they just bark and bark and bark#so I’ve locked myself upstairs for a few minutes because like#it’s not their fault#they’re sweethearts#and it’s not fair if I get angry at them for shit like this they’re just. being dogs#so I’m taking some Calm Down Time lol#one of them is barking and howling because I’m not giving her attention right this minute#but well. tough shit lol aunty j is cross so aunty j is taking time out#uncle Freddie#all my friends better have kids so i can be uncle Freddie#looking forward to being a parent so my kids can call me pop pop or some shit#that’s a tangent. my rage at two dogs for being high maintenance is not a good lookout for my future parenthood lol#but at least I’m recognising that I need a minute so I don’t get angry#ok I’m done yelling now
