Why did you private Strange Days and your other fics on A03?
Hi Anon,
I forgot to make a post here but life got away from me.
I set my entire AO3 private due AI bots scraping AO3 and AO3’s troubling stance on allowing AI fic to be posted to the archive.
I am vehemently anti-AI, especially AI which seeks to aid the pursuit of making creatives absent from the act of creating, rather than being in aid of the creative. Rn AI is incredibly unregulated and stands to do more harm than good in creative sectors, and will be incredibly harmful in spreading misinformation by bad faith actors.
I know AO3 is doing its best to prevent further scraping but I do not like that they are permitting AI fic to be hosted. All AI work is plagiarism- it’s not derivative/culture jamming/remixing. Because in derivative works the reader is made aware of the source material/derivative works are predicated on the viewer understanding/having knowledge of the original source so that the resulting derivative work makes sense. AI doesn’t do that, it’s a text generator made up of millions of words crafted by others, stolen without their consent. It’s plagiarism through and through.
I have seen people get banned from AO3 for even a the slightest whiff of plagiarism. Their moderators and content team are great to work with as you actually are dealing with a human in investigating the plagiarism case. Rather than like lets say YT that just uses bots to do their content strike downs often getting ppl who are using copywrite content correctly under creative commons/fair use guidelines. Cases are thoroughly explored on a case by case basis to make sure that works are being protected from plagiarism.
So it’s disheartening to see AO3, allow AI stories to be hosted- AI are not fans, they are not people. The people behind them aren’t creating fan or original works on their own merit, not spending time working on the craft to create. They’re just mashing prompts to scrape from others to generate something they think they can quickly sell. Which brings me to another point- ao3 is opening itself to getting sued by corporations who are anti fanworks. Ao3 has been able to hold them off because the understanding is that on AO3, creators are not profiting from their fanworks
(linking to patreons, ko-fis, does not count as AO3 is not the one getting a cut of money from creators hosting their fic, so companies cant sue AO3, they’ll have to go after individuals, and rn it’s hard to go after creators as they’re likely not making a lot of money on volume compared to merch sellers on etsy, etc.)
So to protect my stories in the meantime I’ve locked my stories to users only and hidden my stories from search engines.
It hurts me to make my stories difficult for people to find and enjoy, but this is the only way right now to protect my stories from getting scraped. I like hearing from people either new to fandoms discovering my fics or long time readers returning to them, and by locking them I am aware that I am potentially risking my fics’ reach within fandom, but I am an old school fanfic writer, I don’t do this for clout or fandom attention. I write because a part of my heart was touched by a series and I want to engage with the series by essentially playing dolls with the characters to act out the scenarios I’ve come up with. If someone comes along and reads it, and comments on it, I am so very happy and fed.
I appreciate you, my readers, for all of your support all of these years. I am sorry to throw a barrier in front of you to access my stories, but I do want to protect the stories I’ve spent years on.
Even though the series aren’t mine and I don’t profit from them, these fics represent thousands of hours of brainstorming, screaming about them with my betas, they’re creative outlets written to help me survive my worst days and to grow as an artists. My efforts and my creativity are worth protecting, and so I will take whatever steps possible to do so.
Thanks for reaching out, Anon. And I hope you understand. Be well.

Karl’s Paradise cast! (Masklophobia)
King Karl- The one who owns the island, the one who knows all, and the one who is the kindest of the kind! Being the mighty monarch, he makes sure everything on the island is peaceful. But his main job is helping the paradise critters with their problems. When he's not helping them on his own terms, they drop by his castle for advice. This is one ruler who never disapoints his subjects! I guess that's why he's crowned king of the paradise! The critters love Karl, and he loves them! They're like his family! He will do whatever it takes to keep them protected, and that is a promise!
Barkstone- The greatest magician on the island! Everyday, this old dog learns new tricks! And the more he learns, the better he gets! His tricks are the most stellar sensations you've ever laid eyes on, and there's never a dull moment in his performances! His magical powers are so over the top, sometimes he uses them to his own advantages. Like make the trash disappear, instantly repair a sink, or double a pepperoni pizza in size! His favorite trick is the sawing box act, which he never got a chance to use.
Saxxo- Most tigers are mean. This tiger plays a mean sax! Not only can he play, but sing as well! Boy, did he have talent! Why, he's been playing the sax since he was a cub! Most of the critters would rather listen to him than their records or radios. His smooth melodies really made the ladies swoon. Other than his sounds being cool, this cat knows how to act cool as well! With his hip personality and hip threads, this critters stands out the most within the paradise! Especially with his signature shades, which he never takes off!
Slouch- If there were a competition for being lazy, this orangutan would end up on the Genesis Book of World Records! All day and night, he spends them sleeping, and sitting in front of the TV. His house is a mess, he never cooks a homemade meal, and he has a bad habit of dozing off at the wrong time and place. It's a shame, because he has a lot of potential to show. Like, he can play a killer drum! Too bad he can hardly get on his feet. Luckily, King Karl is here to make him more active!
Mama LongLegs- She's a spider, but don't be afraid! She just wants to dance! Although she does carry a temper. She's the most define ballerina in the whole paradise, because she's the only ballerina in the whole paradise. Believing ballet to be a remarkable apptitute, and a physical pleasure, she wants to get everyone into the routine with her, even while they show no interest. When she's not doing ballet, she's thinking of romance. There's nothing to widen her smile more than seeing a happy couple in love. In fact, she plans on getting a gentleman herself to live happily ever after with! She'll even chase after one!
Van Goose- Once you've seen modern art, you've seen it all! Here's a goose who puts a lot of time and effort into her work! Painting, pottery, drawing, and sculpting, Van Goose does it all as long as it's art! She's a perfectionist, and can't stand anything lacking beauty! If you had a party or a special event on the wraps, she would gladly love to provide art for free! She'd rather let people admire her creativity to embrace it than to make a profit out of it. Did I mention she takes requests? You can be her model! You just have to pose very still.
Fins- If you wanna hear a good joke, visit the Fresh Clear lake to see the friendly shark! Fins is her name! She loves to make people laugh, no matter what their mood is, for she thinks laughter is the best medicine! She also puts on comedy acts, and riddles. Occasionally, she will leave her lake to participate in games or parties! Or when it's really cold. Although she's a shark, she happens to be a vegetarian with a huge sweet tooth! She'll let you swim in her lake in exchange for a yummy treat! Don't worry! She won't bite!
Yum-Yum- Looking for some good eats at a fairly low price? Visit the Happy Belly diner! You'll always leave there full! It's owned by a big, nice, cuddly grizzly bear named Yum-Yum! She has a knack for feeding people! She cooks, and she serves! Never will she allow one hungry soul to pass! Sometimes, she will experiment new recipes to add on the menu! When she's not serving the paradise critters, she does baking as a hobby, decorated with some of the prettiest designs you've ever darn seen. The most fun part is eating it afterwards, or sharing them with her friends! She can be a real hungry customer herself!
LabRat- He's smart, he's got the knowledge, yet he's regarded as the paradise fool. Why? Because it's true. This wacky rat spends the majority of his time locking himself in his cellar, building a new invention in hopes it will make our everyday lives more adjustable! They never turn out the way he wants them to work. .. unless he intended them to go berserk or explode. He tries to ignore all negative feedback and continue to make an invention that functions right. He has a dream to change mankind, and he will never give up on that dream! Shhhhhhh. Be sure to not interupt him.
Junior- An eight year-old woolley mammoth that's been frozen for a million years. Luckily, the paradise critters helped thaw him! Being a child mammoth, he's up to the size of a full grown adult! Wow! Imagine if he were older! Junior is just your average kid who wants to have fun, and causes lots of trouble. He's always in the mood to play! Go on and play with him!

Why the perfection aspect over getting it done aspect is a fallacy.
Steve Jobs was removed from the companies he founded and worked 20 years on to put some corporate shill with no stake in the business as a person to control the direction of his companies by the shareholders. It happens all the time. People orchestrate scandals to get rid of creators all the time, sometimes not even to replace the project head (eg - Theranos) , but simply halt all progress they are making cause it makes them uncomfortable and they can’t do the same. It is the reason I am more empathetic to creators, doers, innovators and entrepreneurs over people who look good as flower vases (Basically pedestalized for looking the part, and having statement markers) over shills and definitely critics.
Maybe that was a fair thing to do, but for me whenever creators are replaced with shills, it always leads to loss of vision and creativity and general loss of human endeavor.
Heck, last year a woman was trying to get a Stanford graduate who worked in one of the best companies in the world from getting fired, cause he accidently talked inappropriately when he was drunk, and the person in question was willing to forgive him over him losing his job for it, in a company he had build for 10 years, and was the main vision behind it- and the woman who was harassed, faced resistance when she was trying to set him free, cause for the rest it was a great opportunity to take the man down. I am a creator, and I know how hard it is to build a company from scratch and maintain it, mainly cause I am founder who made an effort to get a fledging company off the ground and I also have a family company that has great clients. When I find people who contribute to the workplace and bring brilliant insights, I always let them get accolades for it, over people who don't, and may be a liability instead, but want the attention. It is nothing like holding a job. So I empathize with protecting the creators, entrepreneurs and doers over shills.
We are obsessed with statement markers on is this person qualified (beyond the essential requirements) to do the job they are doing for decades, or this shill who has no stake in the business but possibly looked shiny enough and created more pressure to replace that guy, no he shouldn't. If the shill has that much drive and agency, he should found his own company and do his own thing.
Sometimes the people who call for these changes, don’t have statement markers, nor are doers compared to the people who are achieving it.
I think at a certain point even in MNCs and global companies which have perfected human handling policies and processes, where people are usually dealt with excess work competition it is always based on metrics like maximum sales, maximum impact, maximum agency, maximum value created, and profit- rather than your opinion that this person looks less shiny than that guy who has more statement markers. I think it is probably the by product of celebrity culture where we are so obsessed with people who ‘look the part’ , we cant see that some people are actually executing the part should be valued more, if at all. Once the person is hired, he should be valued for the work done, not if he ‘looks like’ he can get the work done.
Invest in people who put in the effort and get the work done, not the critics, or the flowers in a vase. Flowers in a vase don’t do a single thing in the world that is creative, build innovations or build anything. Flowers in a vase, live for the crowds, and as soon as the crowds or benefits end they will go home, and derail the project, Workers live for the work they do and projects they build, and unless you are planning to make a movie about the said workers, stop devaluing people who put actual effort into doing things and achieving things around the world for decades and give stolen valor to people who just walked in and might “look better” for the part, cause you faced criticism from critics who neither look the part nor are achieving anything over the creators and the shills.
Reward the doers over the critics and the flower vases as people. Never reward anyone who never had a stake in the project or ever had experience with projects like that, it is insulting to people working hard for what they are trying to achieve. If Theranos had to replace it’s founder, please don’t replace it with a woman who ‘looks the part’ instead of someone who is working on similar technologies and trying to reach a medical and innovation breakthrough, if at all. Sure, you are looking for gods to pedestalize and the person may be ‘average’ but your pedestalization complex and insecurities should not take over the fact that some people are building things, and some people are not doing that, The builders should have complete stake in the things they build. If this is how things have always been and it can’t be questioned anymore, it should be, cause doers should not be undermined for actually getting things done.
Reward the creators and doers, over shills and everyone else.
(This is not to validate any political opinions and is in a general context. )

BECAUSE THE COMPONENTS HAVE SO FAR; WHEN YOU FINISH, LEAVE YOURSELF SOMETHING EASY TO START WITH DECEPTIVELY SMALL THINGS
Whereas mere determination, without flexibility, is a dangerously misleading example. Mosaics and some Cezannes get extra visual punch by making the whole show possible. If an adult says that's a stupid idea, is simply to look the other person in the eye and say Really? Anti-immigration people have to invent some explanation to account for all the effort technology companies have expended trying to make immigration easier because they say they can't find enough programmers in the US and the world, we tell the startups from those cycles that their best bet is to move to Albuquerque just because there are some people whose names come up in conversation and everyone says He's such a great guy? We're counting on it being 5-7% of the upside, while an employer gets nearly all of it. Throw them off a cliff, and most will find on the way out. Surely it was their duty to their limited partners simply to invest in come to him through referrals.
And mind you, this an example where things turned out well. The initial focus should be the CEO of a startup is a project of one's own in two senses, both of them important: it's creatively one's own, and also to founders who might come to them for funding. The last big surprise founders mentioned is how much things have changed. The New York Times. I suspect a lot of investors and founders, they'll send deals your way. Investors don't like to have too much money tied up in any one deal. Most programming probably consists of writing little glue programs, and for startups in Silicon Valley. It may be time to fix that. Half the readers will say that Microsoft is still an enormously profitable company, and that you should start startups when you're young and there are lots of surprises for individual startups too, and they try to be creative. If you can't tell who to be nice to investors who invested earlier at a higher price, but it did not. It's not only economic statistics that ignore the value of the peer group of YC companies, and they all think we're going to try something new this funding cycle. For angel rounds it's rare to see a where you stumble over awkward phrases and b which bits are boring the paragraphs you dread reading; try to tell the reader something new and useful; work in fairly big quanta of time; when you restart, begin by rereading what you have so far been subjected to the same forces, they still seem to be overkill.
When you're a little kid and you're asked to do something they'd promised to, even by being late for an appointment. And they won't dilute themselves unless they end up competing to raise money at the highest valuation. Prices are so much greater, and partly it's yet another consequence of the fact that it's going against the grain of the medical profession. When do you give up? Also, you've never been to this house before, so you don't contradict it. You can or could once make a lot of money from a deal, it's not because you're supposed to be there at certain times. I lived for a while in Florence. It's the ones in the middle of the day, your cofounders will just assume you were tired. Several of the most interesting of the lot. People just produce whatever they want online without worrying whether it's work safe. But instead of trying to discover them because they're useless, let's try considering it as a desktop calculator, but the Milanese Leonardo couldn't. But events like Demo Day only account for a fraction of matches between startups and investors.
When you think you've got a great idea, it's sort of like having a guilty conscience about something. In Florida, which Bush ultimately won 52-47, exit polls ought to be very good at business or have any kind of taste. Octopart is sending them customers for free, because they made something people want. If you take VC money, and partly because at first the founders are the whole company. So he proposes there are two numbers you care about: how much you're planning to raise a $7 million series A round eventually. But of course there were the usual nightmares associated with servers. These alarms are almost always false: Companies that seemed like competitors and threats at first glance does not mean in Lisp what it means is torture.
When they do favors they don't seem any happier for it. People can notice you've replaced email when it's a fait accompli. I were a boss making people work this hard. And in fact, to anyone who wanted to make web apps work like desktop ones. Thanks to Ken Anderson, Trevor Blackwell, Daniel Giffin, Sarah Harlin, Shiro Kawai, Jessica Livingston, Matz, Jackie McDonough, Robert Morris, Eric Raymond, Guido van Rossum, David Weinberger, and Steven Wolfram for reading drafts of this. The saddest windows close when other people die. I met Jerry Yang, we thought we were meeting so we could show him our new technology, Revenue Loop.
After my mother died, I wished I'd spent more time with her. It's hard even to imagine. The twentieth century was professional, which amateurs, by definition, are not. Some investors want to know whether you want them as a web service. Most of the legal restrictions on employers are intended to protect employees. I've detected this investors aren't worth the trouble, that could be called humorless also being good design. Whereas Marc Andreessen says he'd back ok founders in a hot market over great founders in a bad one.
In fact we usually only get several hundred. If anywhere should be quiet, that should. This essay is derived from a talk at the 2007 ASES Summit at Stanford. You'll be better off if you operate like Columbus and just head in a general westerly direction. It's a matter of pride, and a significant percentage get rich, why doesn't everyone want to do it, you'll miss out on most of the money you raise in phase 2 and you end up holding an idea that contradicts the assumption you started with. Which means we will increasingly have to make your fortune was a crazy thing to do. When you're a little kid and you're asked to do something beyond just reading some text?

What does unlisted mean on youtube? (2020 updated)
What does unlisted mean on youtube? Let’s find out
YouTube   is a free  video-sharing website  that makes it easy to watch online videos. You can even create and upload your own videos to share with others.
Originally created in 2005, YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with visitors watching more than  6 billion hours  of video every month.
While almost all content producers on the platform exist under the YouTube Creator umbrella, the community is so vast that variances exist across its ranks.
It is therefore important for each individual who wishes to become a  YouTuber to gather all information in order to matter in the viciously competitive world of Youtube.
In this article we will endeavor to answer the question, What does unlisted mean on youtube? What is the difference between Public, Private and Unlisted?
Once you upload a video on Youtube, you can change the privacy settings for that video to either Public, Private or Unlisted.  This feature allows you to limit who gets to see your videos.
Public    Google allows you to set the privacy setting of each individual video during the upload process. You can set each video to Public, Private or Unlisted. ‘ Public’  is the default setting and that means anybody can see your video. It has the following advantages
A huge subscriber count is great for a business, and it can attract more customers.  It creates effective brand awareness.  It’s profitable with the right company or creative strategy.  It can make you a superstar on YouTube.     Private    Private videos are very different from public ones. Here you (the uploader) selects a list of users who can view your content. the video can only be viewed by those you invite.
Youtube allows you to chose up to a maximum of 50 users to share the video with. These users need to have a google account and be logged in in order to view your video.
Private videos do not appear in any Google (or any other) search results, video recommendations, or your (the uploader) video tab selection.
Similarly, subscribers to your channel will not receive a notification when you upload a private video. The video will not even be available if the users you shared with try to reshare.
   Why upload private videos?
While thousands of videos are uploaded to the public each day, an increasing number of videos are made private. Some of the reasons for this are:
Family videos    If you are far from your family, sharing videos is no doubt a way to stay connected.
Your kid’s first step, their bike-riding lessons, family holidays, footage of your experiences in your location, etc.
These videos are family-oriented, they are not for the whole world. For this reason, making them private ensures only the intended users view them.
Professional content    Organizations may  use private videos for various reasons such as:
Video resumes .  Resumes through a medium other than paper have been growing in popularity throughout the years. They allow employers to see the face and hear the voice of potential employees without even meeting them. Creating a strong video resume requires time, effort, and thought, which is why many employers are beginning to include a video resume as part of the application process.    Project collaboration.   Thanks to the internet, it’s possible to collaborate with users across the nation. People working on video projects might want to share content and ideas via YouTube. Instead of initiating a file transfer, a YouTube upload allows both parties to see the content they are working on piecing together. Just like any project with a release date, privacy on the video content is needed.    Internal uses.   Several companies use videos as part of their training program. Keeping the video uploaded on YouTube allows companies to encourage employees to watch the videos at home. Keeping the videos private keeps company information from being inappropriately publicly displayed.    Sample purposes.   Some videographers prefer keeping their work private. Freelance videographers, for instance, might use YouTube videos to share their portfolio of previous projects with potential clients. For a variety of reasons, they may want their content to be private instead of public. This keeps unwanted comments off their videos and keeps the page clean for potential clients.     Unlisted    Still wondering, What does unlisted mean on youtube? Well, An ‘Unlisted’ video is one that can only be viewed by users with the video link. Just like a private video, it won’t appear in any search result. It is however different from a private video in the following ways:
You don’t need a YouTube account to watch the video, you can watch any unlisted video as long as you have the   video link    There’s no 50 person sharing limit, its unlimited to any number   Unlisted videos come in handy when you have a large group of people you want to share the video with, i.e more than the 50 users limit for private videos.
   Why upload Unlisted videos?
Some of the reasons you may want to go the ‘Unlisted’ way are:
Sharing videos with friends and family who may exceed 50 in number.  When you wish to share a video with select customers or prospects  Getting video feedback from co-workers or other specific focus groups  Online resumes and portfolios to share during numerous job applications     You can choose to make any of your uploads an unlisted video in your YouTube account settings. Here’s how:
Sign in to your YouTube Account  Go to your  My Videos  page  Select the video which you’d like to make an unlisted video. Click the  Edit  button to access the video’s settings.  Go to the Privacy section of the page. There you’ll see the option to mark your video as “unlisted”, “public”, or “private”.  Select unlisted.   Don’t forget to click the  Save Changes  button. Once you’ve done this your video will be an unlisted video.        Other tips for privacy on Youtube     Now that we have answered the question; What does unlisted mean on youtube, let’s look at other useful tips.
While Youtube is the most popular site for uploading your videos, it is important to know what privacy settings to use in order to protect your content from misuse. With more than 6 billion hours of video watched each month on YouTube, there’s no telling what to expect. It’s best to protect yourself and adjust your privacy settings.
Here are some tips on privacy while uploading youtube videos.

Ensure that your cable internet service is protected by passwords so spyware cannot gain this information. It’s not mandatory to offer all information on your profile, it would be wise to leave out the email address and phone number sections to avoid fraud or scam.
Related:   Best Jarvee Alternative       Control Channel Activity    If you choose to keep your videos and content public, then you may attract people who do not necessarily agree with your content. These users may flood your comment section with insults or spam your channel. Its therefore prudent to constantly keep an eye at the comments, video responses, and ratings to keep your channel safe.
If you want to disable or preview and approve comments, follow these easy steps:
Visit your  Video Manager  Find the video you’d like to edit and click the  Edit  button Click  Advanced Settings  Adjust your preferences under the “Comments and Responses” tab Click  Save Changes
If you selected to preview and approve comments, continue:
Under “Allow Comments and “Allow Video Responses” select  Approved  Click your  Username  in the top right corner Click  Inbox  Click  Comments  on the left side of the page.
Related:   Instagram hashtags for photographers       Check Your Account and Report Abuse    Keep a constant check on your account and make sure you update your settings according to your preferences. Log out of your account and check your page as a public user to see what’s being accessed and what’s not.
If you notice bad behavior and abuse, make sure you report it. YouTube is a community, and if there is harassment, inappropriate remarks being made, or if someone is violating your privacy, site administrators need to know about it.
We hope we have answered your question, What does unlisted mean on youtube. Good luck!

It’s also a great way to earn a side income or even make a living out of it.  It’s however important to be keen on what videos to share publicly and which to keep safe and restrict to only a select group of people. This is especially important if you’re a professional and need to uphold a reputation.
If you want to set your videos to private, follow these easy steps:
Visit your Video Manager Find the video you’d like to set to private and click the  Edit  button In the “Privacy Settings” drop-down menu, select  Private  Click  Save Changes
Related:   How to tell if someone blocked you on Instagram       Adjust Account Privacy Settings    YouTube is an interactive website, and your videos aren’t the only thing you need to protect from the prying eyes of the public. Whether it’s liking videos, subscribing to them, or your contacts sending you messages and sharing your videos, it’s important to stay proactive in making sure you know who can track what you like and watch.
If you want to set your account privacy settings, follow these easy steps:
Click on your avatar and select  YouTube Settings  On the next screen, click on  Privacy  at the top left
On that screen, you’re able to set up and check your account privacy settings. Under “Likes and Subscriptions,” you can check the box to make sure any videos you like and any channels you subscribe to stay private and confidential. Under “Search and Contacts,” you can control who can contact you, share your videos, and find you by email address.
Related:   How to Monetize your Instagram       Edit Account Profile    Whether someone is on their mobile device, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer, people have access to your personal information if you share too much or don’t protect it. When filling out details including your name, age, company, interests, and uploading a profile picture, remember to only divulge information that can’t be used against you.
Good luck!

The Real Reason Major Record Companies Suck
Tumblr media
By Peter Spellman
An artist who signs a major-label recording contract today is probably taking the biggest risk of his or her career. With a mortality rate of 1 out of 10 failures, it's clearly a crapshoot whether a new major label artist will "make it" or not. The list of "where are they nows" over the last ten years runs into the thousands. This sucks! When we try and figure out why this mortality rate prevails, a number of familiar reasons present themselves: * The major labels are putting out TOO MANY RECORDS...True, but I believe this is merely a symptom of a bigger problem. * The major labels are SIGNING ARTISTS TOO INDISCRIMINATELY...Yes, but this too is symptomatic of something deeper. * The major labels are peopled with DYSFUNCTIONAL, TURF-PROTECTING CLIMBERS...True sometimes, but this too is merely a symptom. * The major labels aim for A LEAST-COMMON-DENOMINATOR MUSICAL "SOUND" that will appeal to the masses...Yes, but a symptom again. We can go on and on with possible reasons and never arrive at the REAL one. The real reason major record labels suck is that they are "divisions" within larger multi-national corporations that are obligated, BY THEIR VERY NATURE, to behave in a certain art-destroying way. Let me explain. There are certain obligatory rules by which all corporations must operate. These rules are assumed, accepted, rarely articulated and color everything a corporation does. Now don't get me wrong. There ARE music people within corporate record labels - people who are truly turned on by music creation, recording, and promotion. I know some of them. But when push comes to shove, all their actions must reflect the policies and procedures handed down from "corporate". Too much independence on their part and they will be handed a pink slip and shown the door. There are seven primary rules corporations (including music corporations) must obey, and each rule has a profound effect on how music and artists are treated, regarded and disposed of. Here they are: #1.THE PROFIT IMPERATIVE: Monetary profit is the ultimate measure of all corporate decisions. Shareholders "own" corporations and they expect the value of their shares to increase, not decrease. Forget the little old lady that owns a few shares of stock. Most shares are owned by tremendously wealthy and thus politically influential individuals and most importantly by other corporations, many of which are investment banks. All are itchy for quarterly, measurable profits. "EBIDTA" (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) controls everything. Senior corporate officers are notorious for wearing "ninety-day glasses". Three months ahead is as far as most CEOs can see. This myopia often infects the entire organization, as relentless pressure to perform over the short term radiates from the top. A factory may be closed rather than modernized and an artist dropped rather than developed because the tax write-off makes the next period look better. #2.THE GROWTH IMPERATIVE: This goes hand-in-hand with the profit imperative. Profit means growth, expansion of the talent pool, expansion of the master catalog. Corporations live or die by whether they can sustain growth. Music corporations must keep on signing new artists in order to use their vast infrastructures and justify their overhead expenses. Sometimes company growth doesn't happen fast enough to suit the ambitions, however, and sometimes it doesn't happen at all. What to do then? The power-hungry CEO's typical solution is to expand by acquiring another company. Growth by acquisition has been the modus operandi of the corporate music business since the 1970s. EMI is a case in point. By acquiring such hot labels as Virgin and Chrysalis and bringing its antiquated operations up to snuff, EMI for a while seemed headed to the top. But chairman Sir Colin Southgate also pressured his executives to maintain double-digit growth, first in good times, then in the face of a rapidly deteriorating market. They responded by pumping out quick-buck anthologies and slashing costs willy-nilly when they could have been building talent for the long haul. Managed for short-term results, EMI has literally consumed itself in pursuit of its numbers. The profit and growth imperatives are the most fundamental corporate drives; together they represent the corporation's instinct "to live." #3.COMPETITION AND AGGRESSION: Corporations place every person in management in fierce competition with each other. Anyone interested in a corporate career must hone his or her ability to seize the moment. This applies to gain an edge over another company or over a colleague within the company. All divisions of the record company are attempting to represent themselves as an indispensable component of the recording industry. The day-to-day work of dealing predominantly with one specific medium, whether the music, the image in the video, radio media, or the press, tends to result in different staff assessing the potential of artists in different ways and developing their own agendas and goals rather than working towards a shared overall vision. As a label employee, you are expected to be part of a "team," but you also must be ready to climb over your own colleagues when an opportunity presents itself. Turf battles and other "family dysfunctions" are "normal" elements in the corporate game. #4.AMORALITY: Not being human, corporations do not have altruistic goals. In fact, corporate executives praise "nonemotional" as a basis for "objective" decision-making. So decisions that may be antithetical to aesthetic goals or artistic integrity are made without misgivings. Corporations, however, seek to hide their amorality and attempt to act as if they were altruistic. Lately, for example, there has been a concerted effort by the American industry to appear concerned with environmental cleanup, community arts or drug programs. Similarly, major labels are starting to once again toss around the phrase "long-term artist development" as an antidote to the perception they are short-sighted. But this can only be rhetorical in a corporate setting where quarterly results rule the environment. Product (and its creators) not bringing in the necessary numbers will continue to be dropped like a bad habit. Don't be deceived! It is a fair rule of thumb that corporations tend to advertise the very qualities they do not have in order to allay negative public perceptions. When corporations say "we care," it is almost always in response to the widespread perception that they do not have feelings or morals. #5.HIERARCHY: Corporate laws require that corporations be structured into classes of superiors and subordinates within a centralized pyramidal structure: chairman, directors, chief executive officer, VPs, division managers, and so on (based primarily on military models). Unlike the freedoms of an entrepreneurial business, large company decision-making must pass through layer upon layer of management. This makes the process of product development slow and ponderous. For example, from the time a band is signed, it can be a full year or longer before their first record is finally released owing in part to this dense hierarchical management structure. A lot can change in a year. Furthermore, high executive turnover and frequent management "purges" at large record companies can often delay or even derail a recording project indefinitely, leaving artists in the lurch. #6.QUANTIFICATION: Corporations require that subjective information be translated into objective form, i.e. numbers. The subjective or spiritual aspects of music, for example, cannot be translated, and so do not enter corporate equations. Music is evaluated only as a "product." Some in the industry would prefer to treat music like other industries treat cars and refrigerators. But music cannot be treated as such. As the creative extensions of the human spirit, music will always defy attempts at control. Indeed, just when the majors catch up with a "new" music trend they often find that the market has shifted and music lovers have moved on to something else. #7.HOMOGENIZATION: Corporations have a stake in all of us living our lives in a similar manner. The ultimate goal of corporate multinationals was expressed in a chilling statement by the president of Nabisco Corporation: "One world of homogeneous consumption. . . [I am] looking forward to the day when Arabs and Americans, Latinos and Scandinavians, will be munching Ritz crackers as enthusiastically as they already drink Coke or brush their teeth with Colgate." Corporations are structured and optimized for the "mass market" and so what they sell must appeal to the broadest audience possible. Their musical mainstay has been CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio or Top 40 Pop) - predictable, non-adventurous, formulaic. They have dominated the airwaves and circled the globe with this musical pablum. Incidentally, homogenization is one of the reasons the corporate music business (along with most other corporations) is in such a crisis today. It is facing a rapidly segmenting marketplace where consumers have become unpredictable. It always depended on "The Next Big Thing" to flush its corporate ledgers. But the very concept of one artist who can unite a large pop audience and help shape and define it (ala Elvis, The Beatles, Springsteen) seems about as dead as the 45-rpm spindle. Next Big Thing? More like "Next Modest Thing That Might Appeal to a Portion of the Demographic". But while bad news for the corporate giants, this is good news for their indie counterparts. A number of indie labels specializing in "niche" music markets (hip hop, ambient, folk, Celtic, etc.) are grabbing market share almost daily and breaking open a lot of champagne these days. So in conclusion, let us remember that the Musical Industrial Complex must, by necessity, bow to corporate imperatives that will inevitably clash with art. It's nobody's fault; it's the nature of corporate cultures, and any artist desiring to get into bed with this culture should proceed with eyes wide open. Your partner could be your nemesis.

Divination with DnD Dice
Tumblr media
There seemed to be enough interest in the DnD Dice Divination system that I decided to go ahead and write it up. I couldn’t fit it all on here though so I might be making more posts in the future about it. I’ve included the most important stuff here to get started.
I’ve included a zine to download and print off if you want to take it with you. I actually recommend the zine, it’s a better format than what tumblr would let me put together.
Please consider tipping me and definitely credit me where you can.
I know there are other systems out there and I don’t have a monopoly on dice divination but this guide did take a lot of time to put together and is built on my own collection of frameworks, meanings.
Dice sets can be picked up for cheaper than most basic tarot decks making the barrier to entry lower. My goal was to create a system that could get a similar level of complexity of information to tarot and oracle cards. I found in test readings, I could get roughly the same as I would get from a four card reading. So it’s a good start!
It’s my mission to make divination more accessible, tipping me helps me devote more time to this.
Zine: https://www.scribd.com/document/380692727/Divination-With-DnD-Dice
If Scribd gives you trouble try here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/21613135
Read description for printing directions or it might not come out right.
If you can’t print it off, the same information is included below the cut.
Hope someone finds this useful!
D4 - Element
1 - Air - Mental, Academic, Communication, Anxiety
2 - Fire - Spirituality, Passion, Ideals, Anger
3 - Water - Emotional, Romantic, Connection, Depression/Sadness
4 - Earth - Physical, Material, Home, Emotional Block
I use the Element dice to give an indication for the area of life the reading pertains the most too. I look for indications with other dice as to what the element dice might be speaking to more specifically, but it gives me a place to start.
 D6 - Problem
1 - Plot - drama, conflict, things outside of your control, change
2 - Character - another person is blocking/causing problems, fixation on a person, possibly even loss of a person
3 - Thought - paradigms getting in the way, not in touch with reality, judgmental, fear/anxiety, getting stuck in your head
4 - Diction - how a person talks is causing problems, speaking too much/too little, passive aggression, divisive or hateful language
5 - Song - Harmony with another, being out of sync with oneself or another, learning to join the choir/group, teamwork
6 - Spectacle - Things seem worse than they actually are, petty fights, aesthetic/surface level changes, playing with how things are perceived to achieve an outcome
The Problem dice is based on Aristotle's Six Elements of Tragedy, a dramatic and literary analytical framework. I use this to see what might be the at the crux of the problem in the area the Element dice indicated. The Action Needed dice can also refine the Problem.
 D8 - Action Needed
1 - Right View - seeing the situation for what it truly is, actions have consequences, material reality, paradigm shift
2 - Right Resolve - being intentional, recommitting, choosing what is right, dedication and ambition
3 - Right Speech - be honest/don't lie, don't be passive aggressive/be forthright, speak compassionately and for the benefit of others.
4 - Right Action -  don't harm others, act compassionately and for the benefit of others, take positive action
5 - Right Livelihood - don't profit from harming others, long term commitment to benefiting others, take only what you need and give what you do not, ethical employment
6 - Right Effort - Exert influence on your environment to cultivate a better internal world, set strong boundaries, avoid negative influences and seek out positive ones, "just do the thing"
7 - Right Mindfulness - Don't make things out to be more than they are, see them for what they are, know life is in transition, don't define the self by these external transitory states
8 - Right Concentration - unification of the mind/body, unlocking higher levels of thinking and feeling and operating, don't let desire for what might be get in the way of what is, healthy detachment
The Action Needed dice is based on the Eightfold Path of Buddhism. While the particulars of the path vary by the different schools/traditions, these seem to be the most common English translations. This dice is usually pretty straight forward, especially when taken in consideration with the rest of the dice.
 2D10 - Difficulty
Pretty self-explanatory. The higher the difficulty, the longer the process will take. Gives an indication about how important or long term the reading will be.
 D12 - Time
The number can refer to a month of the year which you may have your own associations you can pull from or classify into a season and pull meanings from that. I use the seasonal method most often.
Winter - focus on the self, rest, restore yourself, weather the storm, be the light the world isn't giving you, inner strength
Spring - new beginnings, plant seeds, the rain and the storms lead to new growth
Summer -  wait to harvest, find shade, relax
Fall - harvest, make preparations for winter, celebrate accomplishments.
You can also think of what sabbat is in that month and the lessons inherent in that holiday. It can also be time of day.
9-5 - Work related, stress, out of your control
5-12 -  Free time, friends and family, hobbies
12-9 - rest, dream, restore yourself
AM if there are more even than odd numbers and PM if there more odd than even. You can also take the month and the time to be literal if the reading calls for it.
 D20 - Lesson
1 - The Magician - jack of all trades, master of none, experiment, unfocused, learning, skilled but unrefined, beginning
2 - The High Priestess - balance, intuition, insight, between worlds, lessons learned while solitary
3 - The Empress - growing, flowering, creativity, taking what you have and making it thrive, thriving where you're planted
4 - The Emperor - expand, leader, confidence, step up and create the life you want/need, protect what/who you have
5 - The Hierophant - balance between material and spiritual, lessons learned from teachers, benevolence, structure
6 - The Lovers - connection, union, positive outlook, nostalgia, romanticism, love given freely
7 - The Chariot - power, confidence, leadership through passion/emotional intelligence, decisive action
8 - Strength - rely on internal direction/sense of self, internal strength and peace, resilience
9 - The Hermit - internal knowledge and discovery, minimalism, truth is inside you, you are capable on your own
10 - The Wheel of Fortune - things are outside of your control, this too shall pass, ebb and flow of fortune, reversal of luck
11 - Justice - objective truth, standing by/doing what is right, lawful good, cutting ties with deceivers, protect the community
12 - The Hanged Man - Insight, understanding impermanence, sudden realization, enlightenment, major paradigm shift
13 - Death - the old makes way for the new, the cycle of life, we all die in the end, reinvention
14 - Temperance - spiritual balance, abstaining from negative influences, taking responsibility for one's internal well being
15 - The Devil - materialism as bondage, enjoy pleasure without becoming victim to it, pleasure seeking as escapism
16 - The Tower - being shaken to the core, foundations pulled up, self of self overturned, ego shaken
17 - The Star - uneasy hope, possibilities, leaving and traveling, opportunities somewhere else, dare to dream
18 - The Moon - deception, things aren't always what they appear, intentions and actions do not line up, reflect, see the true nature of things
19 - The Sun - relax and enjoy your accomplishments, celebrate with friends and family, share your abundance, revel in joy
20 - Judgment - shine a light on everything, be honest, be critical and fair, lay firm boundaries, take up the old and make it new
The lesson dice is there to indicate what can be learned from the situation. Every situation is an opportunity to grow and evolve. It's based on the framework of the Major Arcana as teachers and posits that every situation can likewise be a teacher to us all. This dice can help refine the problem dice as well. It can be hard to keep this dice from getting preachy so make sure to be honest about what this dice is saying but temper it so as not to be patronizing.
 Putting the Reading Together
Like all divination, the goal is to look for patterns and craft those patterns into coherent themes. Like reading a novel, you’re reading between the lines to make the reading more useable than the raw info the dice turn up. An example of my notes for a reading are:
D4 - Element: 2 - Fire
D6 - Problem: 3 - Thought
D8 - Action Needed: 3 - Right Speech
D10 - Importance: 51 - Middle
D12 - Time: Evening/Summer
D20 - Lesson: 8 – Strength
This is the reading I gave:
“The reading suggests there’s some conflict stemming from letting passion overtake reason in your interactions with others. You believe very passionately in your ideals, but how you talk about them to others looks like it’s causing tension. This seems like it will be of moderate difficulty to grapple with, not easy but by far not the hardest thing you’ve dealt with. The reading suggests being mindful of your words and advises to concentrate on your inner power rather than seeking validation for your ideas from others. “
When pulling together a reading you want to look for conflict, strengths, and resolution.
There was a lot of fire (passion) and air (communication) in this reading, while they work great in harmony, they can really hurt the user when out of balance so that was the conflict. Passion is a beautiful thing even when it’s not in alignment and I didn’t want the reader to think their ideals were the problem since the rest of the reading pointed out their words so their passion was their strength. The resolution lay in relying on their own internal strength for validation rather than others, that that would lead to better communication and less conflict overall.
I’m still learning myself. It takes practice so don’t give up!
--
I hope this was helpful! Please let me know how this works for you. I’m totally open to people changing it to fit them better but I wanted to provide a model for how this could be done. I also got some really solid readings out of it. So it definitely has potential.

Tbh, my policy on pirating is pretty simple. I honestly dont give a fuck one way or another w/movies, TV shows and even comic books, bc the former two have managed to account for pirating in the way they pad their expenses and tbqh they dont really hurt for it. And with comic books, okay if you pirate indie or creator owned content you kinda suck, not gonna lie, you have NO idea the kind of effort and upfront costs that go into producing comic books without Marvel or DC backing you up, not until you actually try it. Its obscene. Especially if you’re not able to do all the art AND story AND inking/lettering/coloring yourself, and have to either pay other members of your self-assembled creative team upfront or on the backend.
And this includes comic books published by Image (at least the ones without big name creators attached), because contrary to popular belief, Image has nothing to do with assembling the creative teams of most of their creator owned books, and they certainly don’t pay them any kind of wages or salaries. The way Image is set up is creators basically submit a complete first issue, all the art, inking, lettering, coloring, everything already done, to see if they’re interested in publishing.
(Technically, you only have to submit the first eight pages in order to get a response, and theoretically its possible that Image has in the past greenlit books based on the first eight pages of the book, which then allows the creators some leverage in convincing the entirety of their creative team to put in the upfront work to complete the rest of the first issue still without payment, but at least trusting now that their work will see publication, but like, this doesn’t really happen much from anything I’ve ever seen or heard or experienced).
Anyway, point being, Image takes submissions and then greenlights the books they see as potentially profitable, but again....they in no way ever pay creators themselves. Creators only make money via the actual sales of their books, once published and distributed by Image...and only AFTER Image takes their cut, which is a flat fee deducted from the sales of individual issues. Its actually a good thing in some ways, that they only take a flat fee (their cut is for publishing and distribution costs, Image NEVER owns any part of the intellectual property they publish, unless they’re part of their ‘shared Image universe’ which tbh is just like, publisher Erik Larsen’s little sandbox for him and his friends and who even cares, those books suck, Savage Dragon is lame, Erik, and everyone knows Shadowhawk was a blatant rip-off of Darkhawk, and look, I love Darkhawk with all my New Warriors fanboying heart, but of all the characters in the world to rip-off, who the fuck considers Darkhawk worth being derivative of? So weird. BUT I DIGRESS. ANYWAY.)
So in some senses the fact that they only ever take a flat rate is good, because in the rare cases of runaway books that really take off, the way Invincible and The Walking Dead were back when Robert Kirkman was still a no-name indie creator, like...the creator has the potential to make BANK. Which is exactly what Kirkman did, and why he’s now every-fucking-where, ruining all our other faves like who the fuck thought HIM producing a Chronicles of Amber show was a good idea, ewww. He’s gonna dial up the incest to 100, isn’t he? Sigh. UGH WHOOPS ANOTHER DIGRESSION, LOL YOU SEE WHY MY ADHD MEDS ARE ESSENTIAL, I ASSUME.
Ahem.
BUT in most cases, the fact that Image takes a flat fee off the top is like....shitty, because the last I heard - and tbf, this was years ago so its probably not the same anymore, but that means it could be worse - it was something like $2000 per issue. Which means the vast majority of indie creators you’ve never heard of before or after they published a six issue mini or whatever through Image never saw a cent. I’ve never heard of Image putting anyone in debt, like that’s not how they work at least - if your book doesn’t even make up to $2000, its not like you owe them for the remainder, but again, you just....never make a cent off it. So like....the reason a fuckton of Image books never make it past issue #6, if they even make it that far, is that the creators literally just can’t afford to keep producing out of pocket, financing the actual creative production costs of each issue themselves without making any profit on the backend, if they’re not ending up selling more than $2000 worth of issues once on the shelves, physical or digital).
So don’t fucking pirate Image comic books, plz. Just don’t do it. Unless they’re Erik Larsen’s. Pirate away, who gives a fuck, I hate that guy. LOLOLOL I’m such a petty asshole, ugh. Whatever. I blame my childhood.
ANYWAY. As I was saying, I don’t really give a shit about pirating from Marvel or DC, which maybe is bad of me because its not like those creators necessarily make bank either, unless they’re one of Marvel/DC’s faves and like, have their pick of titles at any given moment. But the way most of them are paid is Marvel and DC pay their creators actual salaries based on rates per page, and then Marvel/DC keep all the actual royalties themselves. The only exceptions to this are when issues sell more than 50,000 copies - that’s 50,000 individual copies of physical or digital issues, not $50,000 worth of sales like with Image. Once a creative team’s book sells more than 50,000 copies of a single issue however, THEN they start getting a cut of the royalties, as like a bonus incentive type thingie. But tbh, its pretty rare in today’s market for a book to move that many issues monthly, and only the top sellers of both companies end up in that rarefied air....and most of those books’ creative teams are the favored writers/artists anyway, the ones who have a degree of job security and never tend to lack for titles to shift to after ending a run on one book. Sooooo, they’re kinda the reverse of the creators who could actually use a cut of their books’ back end profits, but whatever.
So like I said, fuck Marvel and DC, like...corporately or whatever. Of course there’s no doubt that pirating has some definite correlation to how few books are able to move 50,000 issues monthly, but both companies have always been notoriously shitty to creators, and that’s not pirating’s fault, and less pirating honestly isn’t going to change that b/c the ones to benefit from less pirating first and foremost are still going to be the same ones who aren’t really that hurt by it currently....loooooooong before the lower rung creators start to see an uptick in profits as a result. And let’s be real, if Marvel & DC suddenly started seeing a surge in profits due to a marked reduction in piracy, they’d find some excuse to shift payment structures around again in order to still keep a lion’s share of the new profits while cutting the lower rung creators (read: new/just starting out/niche/lacking leverage creators) out of seeing much additional profits. Because the problem with creators making money off Marvel and DC IPs isn’t really pirating, its Marvel and DC not wanting to share the money made off their IPs, even with the people most responsible for those IPs generating revenue.
That’s the part of the pirating convo that most people miss, IMO....a rising tide just DOESN’T lift all boats, if one or two boats in particular are specially designed to make the most of any tiny uptick in a rising tide while all the other boats are made of the leftover shoddy materials and are undermanned or understaffed or whatever and can’t actually DO anything productive with any of the lift generated by the rising tide.
And if that made no sense, eh, idk, don’t blame me. Its not my metaphor.
ANYWAY. So that’s why I don’t really give a shit about pirated movies or TV shows or Marvel or DC books, though I do still think you suck if you pirate indie content including lesser known Image creators. You guys have srsly no idea how much harder indie comic book creators have to work compared to like, any other medium. It makes me wanna cry. Its ridiculous. It would take too long to explain just WHY its so much more of an ordeal/effort to produce indie comic book content than just about any other form of indie content save like, running an entire webshow with one or two people wearing all the hats while funding everything out of pocket and overseeing everything production wise and also being a key creator involved in creating the actual content.
BUT as I was saying in the last post, pirating novels is an ENTIRELY different thing, and I have vastly more opinions there than I do with other mediums. Because the publishing industry was designed to exploit and capitalize off the intellectual properties of INDIVIDUALS, unlike all those other mediums that are inherently collaborative and thus usually involve the combined efforts of several to dozens of people.
So at the end of the day, individual authors will ALWAYS suffer more from pirating, looooooong before publishing companies ever feel a ding in their profits. Because they designed it that way. Specifically SO that they, the big companies, would be protected. Its set up so that individual creatives, the authors, NEED publishing companies more than publishers need any singular author. Obviously the rise of indie publishing has changed this somewhat, but not as much as you might think.....because the thing is, indie authors are really only successful and profitable by the grace of Amazon. By the fact that Amazon can afford to pay authors 70 percent royalties on any sale as opposed to traditionally published authors who are lucky to get a ten to fifteen percent royalty rate on sales, with them not even seeing a cent of those royalties until AFTER their advance has already been paid back, if they ever even sell enough to make that happen at all.
And so like....its a very dangerous, precarious, and not at all trustworthy situation that allows for indie authors to CURRENTLY be profitable in ways or to degrees that a lot of traditionally published authors can’t be.
But that’s only because Amazon is taking a loss on most of the books they publish, due to this payment model. Because Amazon CAN. They can afford it. They make enough from all their other departments and revenue streams to buttress those losses. And Amazon has been using this, and using indie authors, to leverage traditional publishers into giving up more and more of THEIR profits from THEIR books, by giving Amazon even steeper discounts on the books they distribute to them, to be sold to consumers by Amazon.
And again, like I said before, its the individual creators, the bottom rung authors, who take the hits here first and in the biggest ways, because it remains true that the publishers have designed their payment structures so as to use the profits of individual authors to compensate for their own dip in profits.
And Amazon isn’t doing any of this for the little guy’s benefit. They don’t care about giving indie authors a leg up, an alternative to tradition publishers. They only care about CURRENTLY making indie authors need traditional publishers less than trad publishers need them, for a change.....but ONLY so that Amazon can rake in the increase in profits first and foremost.
Because here’s the kicker. The thing I worry too many indie authors and readers don’t account for.
INDIE AUTHORS STILL NEED AMAZON MORE THAN AMAZON NEEDS THEM.
Amazon is VOLUNTARILY taking losses on their book sales, and have been almost from the start. Because they don’t NEED that department in particular to be profitable for them NOW. They’ve been angling for a long time to get as close to an actual monopoly on the book market as is possible under current free market laws. So the thing is....unlike traditional publishers....Amazon doesn’t need ANY indie authors OR sales. Like, AT ALL. They could shut down their entire indie book model tomorrow, and not really be any worse off for it.
And the second Amazon doesn’t need indie authors even as LEVERAGE to pry more profits out of traditional publishers....you better believe that 70 percent royalty rate is going to vanish literally overnight. Because there’s absolutely nothing in Amazon’s business model or legal obligations to indie authors that requires they maintain it, or protects indie authors from having it suddenly dropped to a five percent royalty rate at Amazon’s whim.
So the second the scales tip far enough that Amazon decides they really don’t need or want to milk anything else out of traditional publishers, they’ve gotten as much of a price cut or a monopoly as they’re going to get or want to get without forcing publishers (and by extension their own ready made product that Amazon then distributes) out of business.....Amazon is going to quite happily STOP taking a loss on the sales of all these indie titles, and say well, we don’t need you as much now, so we’re gonna just give you ten percent royalties, take it or leave it. Its not like you have any better options at this point.
So whether traditionally published or indie published, pirating books hurts individual creators in very real, tangible ways that creators in other mediums aren’t affected, or are supplemented or buttressed against.
I say all this not to guilt anyone, but simply to provide information. Because there’s always so much discourse going back and forth around legality of pirating and ethics of pirating and so much stuff that’s not even consequential or relevant if people don’t even understand the MECHANICS of how pirating affects various mediums. So they can then make INFORMED choices on how they feel about pirating certain content versus other content.
As I was saying at the start of all of this....I have my own personal stance on pirating, and I don’t expect it or need it to be anyone else’s personal model. Like I said, I don’t really care about other mediums, and when it comes to novels, I’m against it as much as possible, but with caveats. Lots of people, including authors, describe novels as luxury items, and as such say that nobody’s justified in taking one for their own personal entertainment just because they WANT it. I differ from that POV because I honestly don’t consider books a luxury. I consider them to be absofuckinglutely as essential to the survival and THRIVING of the human condition as food or rest. Far more so than TV or movies, which not everyone has access to, or finds as easily accessible. Bottom line.....I fall in the category of arguing that its not enough just to survive. People have to have reason to survive, to live. Things to look forward to. Things to enjoy. Feeding the human spirit, as cheesy or whatthefuckever as that sounds, is every bit as essential as feeding the body. I would not have survived my childhood without books. I would not have survived my twenties without books. Hell, I would not have survived this YEAR without books.
So, even as an author myself, and yes, I have written stuff that’s been pirated (I made a fairly decent living for a couple years as a self-published indie author of m/m erotica and m/m erotic romance short stories, novellas and novels, and those particular genres/markets get the SHIT pirated out of them. So trust me, I am VERY much putting my money where my mouth is on this subject).
But yes, even as an author myself, I have zero problem with people pirating stuff because they honestly, truly legit can not afford it otherwise. Its not a lost sale. If you don’t have the money, you don’t have the money. It doesn’t mean you still don’t need, let alone deserve, to have something to take your mind off your poverty, your stresses, your issues. And even if you technically have the money to afford a book, I’m well aware that doesn’t always mean you ACTUALLY have the money to afford it in any meaningful way. If you have five bucks to spend for the day, and a choice between a book and a bagel, or like, an actual sandwich and drink, that’s not a fucking choice that ANYONE should have to make. Use that five dollars to buy yourself a fucking sandwich and just pirate the book, I say. You can pay it forward when you get the chance. You find yourself with more money at a later point, by all means, go back and buy a legit copy of that book, your money’s still good then, and having had that book to enjoy at an earlier, more stressful time in your life might very well have contributed in even the tiniest of ways to you getting to a place where you had better finances and more spending money.
Yes, obviously, I am a big fan and proponent of libraries, and I think you should always go there first, if possible, to get your free literary content. Libraries are great, and they have a LOT more content, and more of a range of content, then a lot of people realize.
I am however aware that libraries are not necessarily practical for everyone. Sometimes you just plain can’t get to one, you have transportation or mobility issues or live in a household where your reading habits or interests are frowned upon or even penalized, because sometimes, parents are awful. Sometimes libraries just don’t have the content you’re looking for. Content is subjective, depends on staff, geography, community. LGBTQ+ kids shouldn’t have to risk being seen looking through the LGBTQ+ section of the library or checking out a book, if they’re not out at home or school or in their community. By all means, I would much rather a kid in that situation pirate the fuck out of their comforting, soul-sustaining LGBTQ+ themed books than risk upsetting a currently safe and secure status quo. Again, just pay it forward when and if you can, at a later date. And so on and so forward.
BUT, again, there’s caveats there, because with books, I consider it a case by case basis, and the case in question is the individual consumer. The above scenarios IMO are based entirely on the genuine, sincere situation of not being able to afford a book in any practical way, and not having a library as a valid option for getting that or any book.
This is an entirely different situation from HAVING the spending money, and being perfectly capable of dropping five bucks on a book versus five bucks on one of those much-talked-about-in-pirating-convos Starbucks’ lattes that you don’t NEED any more than anyone supposedly NEEDS to read a particular book.
If you CAN afford to pay full price for a book without dipping into funds intended for other practical necessities or hurting or even inconveniencing you in any meaningful way, if you CHOOSE to pirate a book you can access or download through legal channels with just as much ease as you can pirate it...(again, I’m aware that due to bullshit territory laws, not all content is legally available in all areas at all times, and this isn’t what I’m talking about).
I’m talking about if you’re NOT in a bad - not just slightly uncomfortable - but BAD, financially tight, thrifty, constantly stressed situation where its honestly a Sophie’s fucking Choice trying to decide if you’re gonna shell out your money for the sequel you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for for a fucking year and its been the only thing getting you through some days....or if you’re gonna like, eat today....
THAT’S when I have no patience for your piracy, specifically. Not when it comes to novels and the bottom lines of individual, hard-working authors, most of whom have to spend their lunch hours or come home after work to soak their blood, sweat and tears into the manuscript that becomes the book you just pirated. I know what I said about indie comic book creators having it so much more fucking tough than anyone else knows or realizes, but that doesn’t mean that midlist and lower than that authors don’t work DAMN fucking hard on their product, even after working forty hour weeks at some minimum wage job that’s every bit as soul-crushing as the worst job you’ve ever held.
And you’re not a fucking rebel or revolutionary if you’re taking money out of THEIR pocket, when you don’t need it yourself, just because you can. You’re not sticking it to the man, or teaching greedy capitalist publishing pigs the error of their ways. They don’t care, and you’re just being a dick.
Entitlement isn’t always a bad thing, I believe, because we ARE all entitled to certain things. A broke, disabled person with transportation issues and disability benefits that aren’t even enough to cover their actual living expenses is IMO every bit as ENTITLED as anyone else to a nice, stress-free, enjoyable read they picked out because it was precisely what they were looking for and not because it was the only thing out of ten available options that looked halfway decent. I will never ever judge or condemn or disparage someone for pirating in a scenario even REMOTELY close to that.
But that doesn’t mean that gratuitous entitlement doesn’t always exist, and isn’t obnoxious as fuuuuuuuuuuck. You’re not entitled to whatever you want, whenever you want, for as little as you feel like paying for it, just because you WANT it. And just because you can GET it, consequence free. If THAT’S the defining motivation or influence behind pirating the debut novel of a single mom working sixty hours a week to support her kids PLUS hanging onto her dreams and pounding out her novel over the course of a year and a half on her lunch hour.....then yeah, you fucking suck, and you know it, you whiny little shit who identifies with this paragraph and goes "who me? YOU DONT KNOW MY LIFE!” Yeah, I do. We all know someone like you. You’re not special.
Just like I know that author profile I just described there was not grabbed out of my ass, but describes someone very real and not at all embellished, and she’s not even the author I know in the most stressful scenario-whilst-writing. She certainly wouldn’t even consider herself in the Top Ten. And her publisher passed on the option for her sophomore novel, because her much-pirated book never made back the $25,000 advance she was paid over the course of three installments, which meant after taxes, she got an extra $10,000 bucks spread out among three eight month intervals, or just under two years.
So yeah. That’s where I fall. Soundly in the same camp I fall in most things: Actions have consequences, and you should always make an effort to be informed on what those consequences are before deciding whether or not you take action.
Let’s be real, no one’s effectively policing whether or not every individual consumer on the web pirates casually, extensively, or religiously, if at all. Its not likely EVER going to be an issue for you. That someone can actually keep you from pirating because you’re genuinely afraid of legal consequences.
But you shouldn’t need the threat of legal consequences, the question of can I get away with this or not, to police your own actions.
And at the risk of giving anyone whiplash, I for sure don’t give a fuck about the legality of taking away from the bottom line of massive, multi-million dollar corporate interests if I can get away with it. I’m just as entitled to keeping my five bucks that I worked DAMN FUCKING HARD FOR, as the people most likely to see that money even though they didn’t log a single actual hour on producing the content they’re charging five bucks for, IMO. I’m perfectly aware there’s a shit ton of people who’d call that rationale self-serving bullshit and hypocritical, but bite my lily-white Irish ass, I don’t give a fuck. I’m comfortable with my own morality.
But part of the reason I’m comfortable with my own morality, is that it tells me that even though there are times when I think I’m entitled to certain things I can’t necessarily afford, there are also times when I know I’m NOT entitled to things I may just not WANT to afford. Any time you’re able to justify ALWAYS having things your way without it ever costing you any kind of concession, I think that’s usually a good sign it might be time to stop and take a second look at yourself. Nobody gets to have everything their own way, to their best liking, all of the time.
But the flip side of that coin IMO, is that nobody should be penalized to NEVER having anything their own way, to their liking, ANY of the time. And if that’s the situation you’re in at some point in your life, and pirating’s the only available option to giving yourself a break from your regular monotony or currently-shitty-reality? Like, who the fuck am I to tell you not to pirate that feel good book or movie that has the chance to let you go to bed later with an actual smile on your face for a change? Who the fuck is anybody to tell you that?
*Shrugs*
There’s my two cents: The Ten Volume and Unnecessarily Long Saga.

Best Script Mods Sims 4
Script Mods Sims 4 Fantayzia
Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4 Mods.Do NOT put them in your Program Files path. Remember.ts4scripts can only go ONE sub-folder deep inside your mods folder. For example, when adding ScarletSimCityLoans.ts4script: Correct (it can go in the CustomFolder): Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4 Mods CustomFolder.
Sims 4 Mods: Getting Started with Python Scripting (November Patch Update) For those familiar with Script modding (and those trying to learn it), Andrew over at Sims4Studio has updated the unpyc used for Script Mods for the upcoming November patch. He also posted a very easy to follow tutorial on how to get started.
To install Sims 4 mods, download the mod you'd like to use. Find your download with a file explorer and simply drag and drop or copy and paste it into your Sims 4 'Mods' folder. The game should.
Here is the list of 20 best Sims 4 Mods 2020: Sims 4 Mods. These Sims 4 mods have everything from minor modifications to complete rework. New ones keep on coming almost every week. However, it may be hard to keep track of which ones are the best. Many of the Sims 4 mods have not been updated for years, and any official game updates may make.
Food Delivery Service. Cooking in the Sims takes a long time. Spending 4 hours to make some nasty eggs just isn’t worth it, so order in! This mod is a huge upgrade to the pizza delivery service, and we love it.
Sims 4 has the best career paths of all the Sims games.
It’s one of those things that EA has truly perfected throughout the years, and the many modern careers are a big draw for this newest installment.
Tumblr media
However you can never really have enough careers in a Sims game.
People who like to start many different saves often like to have their sims follow different career paths, and there comes a point where you’ll run out of new careers to try (or you’ll simply find many of them not as interesting as others).
And that’s why we have mods mods to keep the game interesting.
After scouring the web I’ve put together this post of all the best career mods that you can download right now.
There are hundreds of career mods for the game, but many of them are bland and not truly well developed.
But worry not–I’ve filtered all the low-effort mods to present only the best ones to save you the time and trouble of searching around. Have a peek and see what grabs your interest.
20. Retail
Working in retail is one of the most underrated careers in the world.
The hours are long, the work is hard, and customers can be quite a pain to deal with.
There’s no reason why a virtual human wouldn’t love this career, though!
And with this mod you can have your sim work the life of a retail salesperson by working their people skills to net profits for the store.
This rabbit hole career will let your sim live the same experience as many people have to live in real life. There’s nothing more realistic than having a young adult work in retail to try living on their own.
The modern world at its finest, am I right?
19. Animal Care
Is your sim an animal lover?
Well this mod will allow your sim to care for animals all around the world, helping protect endangered species and being one with nature by helping wildlife survive.
With the animal care career add-on you will become the protector of nature that you might be dreaming of becoming in real life.
After all, there’s no better way to earn a living than by helping others – nature needs our help!
18. Filmmaker
Spielberg, Tarantino, watch out.
With the filmmaker career you will be able to become the most famous movie director in the entire world(well, the Sims world).
Have your sim grow from an amateur filmmaker to one of the world’s leading directors.
This career has many riches waiting for you. And with very creative branches and descriptions for each level, work has definitely been put into making this one of the best deeper careers in the entire Sims 4 modding community.
What films will your sim make? Are you going to be a science fiction director, or more of a rom-com movie maker? Movie magic is in your hands.
17. Ultimate Educator
Being an educator is one of the noblest yet underpaid professions in the entire world.
Thankfully this mod doesn’t let a teacher’s wages fall below the average earnings of a regular sim, and there are many branches to choose from too.
You can even reach a high level in the academy branch and have them become the director of a university. How cool!
If you want your sim to become a teacher then go straight ahead and download this mod. You won’t be disappointed with what this career path offers.
https://loadholiday383.tumblr.com/post/655793848440815616/shur-dri-owners-manual. You may get different mileage depending on how fast you drive, weather conditions and trip length. Actual vehicle price may vary by Dealer.MBFS NMLS #2546.Stated rates of acceleration are based upon manufacturer's track results and may vary depending on model, environmental and road surface conditions, driving style, elevation and vehicle load.†EPA estimated fuel economy. Compare the estimated mpg to the estimated mpg of other vehicles.
16. Makeup Artist
Being a makeup artist is probably the dream of many girls around the world.
But becoming one isn’t an easy as it seems – even if the talent is there.
This mod allows any sim to become a makeup artist with enough time.
But beware – the road to the top is full of challenges and becoming the best makeup artist won’t be easy. You know how gossipy those salons can be.
15. Fitness Instructor
The fitness life is not for everyone.
But there’s not really a clear way to choose it in the Sims 4 unless you go with the bodybuilder aspiration.
With the fitness instructor career, your sim works to help others become the fitness monsters that they wanna be. It’s inspiring and educational, and might even help you get in the gym a bit more.
Spread the words of health and teach others how to follow the footsteps of your sim’s healthy lifestyle.
14. Modeling
It doesn’t matter whether your sim is male or female; models are always wanted by companies if they’re good enough.
With this mod you can have your sim pretty easily become a paid model. If only it was this easy in real life…
Be aware that you’ll need to remain in the most pristine physical shape if you want to succeed in this career, and doing so won’t be as easy as it sounds.
Stay away from junk food, make sure you lift weights, do runs, and get enough sleep. Making money with your beauty is possible if you stay on top of it.
13. Game Dev
Developing video games has to be one of the most sought-after careers in the modern world.
However not many people get into it because you need to have a lot of programming knowledge if you wish to succeed. Even then, creativity plays a huge part in your success as a game developer. After all, not everyone can create the next Sims franchise!
But if you want your virtual friend to help you feel what it’s like to work in the gaming industry you can try out this mod and have your sim develop games for the world’s most famous companies.
Simply download the mod and apply for the initial role to move into a Game Dev career path. Also this is a bit meta so it’s really quite entertaining.
12. Therapist
Being a therapist might not be everyone’s dream career.
Yet those who do manage to chase this path often help others far beyond their wildest of dreams.
It’s a tough job and it requires a lot of mental strength, but if you think that your sim is up for it then go ahead and take them through this mod.
The later stages of this career allow your sim to make quite a significant amount of money, so the hard work will eventually pay off.
11. Mortician
I’ve added the mortician career mod amongst the best career mods in the Sims 4 because it’s so unique and probably unthinkable to become a mortician in such a fun game.
I mean, we know EA/Maxis would never add this. So I’m really happy with this mod’s ingenuity.
Experience the grim side of life in The Sims 4 by taking care of the deceased. This forces your sim work closely with the dead and helping to send them on their way to a better life on the other side.
10. Oceanography
The ocean. The strangest place that the Earth has to offer, and same goes for our friendly sims fellows too.
We’ve managed to discover some of its mysteries with the latest Island Living expansion pack, but there are still many things that lie at the bottom of the ocean waiting to be discovered.
Well now you can have your sim study the oceanic landscape and become a prolific scientist with this free oceanography career mod!
This is one those careers that you probably didn’t know you wanted in the game until you saw it. And while it hasn’t appeared much in older titles, now you have the chance to try it out.
9. Psychologist
The strain of being a psychologist takes a toll on most sims. And it’s only natural for them to come home feeling tense(basically a therapist with a doctorate).
Best Script Mods Sims 4
Apart from the satisfaction that it provides to help others, being a top-rated psychologist in the world of Sims 4 can see you rack up those stacks of simoleons quite fast.
You get to help people and become wealthy doing it. What more do you need?
8. Medical (4 Branches)
Let’s face it: being a doctor in the Sims has never really felt quite right.
Options don’t seem as aplenty, and there’s just something that feels to be lacking.
Sure, the Get to Work expansion did wonders to the scientific career. But medicine has always been a weak spot in the Sims.
Even though this mod only adds one deep career path, there are 4 branches that you can choose to follow as a doctor with this mod.
These 4 specialties are dermatologist, cardiologist, plastic surgeon, or a pediatrician. Some pretty varied options that I think add a lot of creativity into the mix.
7. Animal Rescuer
https://loadholiday383.tumblr.com/post/656877697345159168/usb-interface-protocol-for-owi-robotic-arm-edge-for-mac. There are so many innocent animals that don’t have a future because they either get abandoned by their owners or left behind by their parents.
Not to mention some terrible living conditions that animals need to be saved from. Even virtual animals.
With this mod your sim can help out those animals in need and work for the biggest shelter in the city.
Pay the bills all while making the world a better place for our lovable pets.
6. Daycare
Caring for a child is not a job everyone can handle.
Many people, in fact, are not fond of children at all.
If your sim loves to spend their time caring for the needs of children then you should consider making them follow the daycare worker career path.
You’ll be caring for the next generation’s best & brightest so make sure you’re up to the task.
5. Singer
Being a musician is incredibly fun. Getting on stage, touring, what’s not to love?
That said… why is there a singing skill if your sim can’t become a singer?! It makes no sense!
This mod fixes that – and boy does it make the game feel far more complete.
With a singer career you can live the dream of becoming the next big thing in the musical world without having to pick up a guitar to do it – although that would definitely help so don’t shy away from the instruments.
4. Real Estate
Working in real estate is for sure a great way to earn.

It may not be your childhood dream but it’s certainly a mature career choice.
Sims cannot really get into the business of selling properties in the vanilla game, but with this mod you can have your sim sign up for the real estate career and have them become experts in the selling game.
And if you do good work you’ll see plenty of bonuses.
3. Rocket Scientist
You can actually be a rocket scientist in The Sims 4, but there’s no career for it!
With the skill of rocket science already implemented in the game, becoming a rocket scientist just makes sense. Special thanks for this mod because it also adds a sense of completion to the game.
You can now have your sim walk the career path of one of the most difficult scientific careers on Earth – and take it all the way to outer space as you advance in ranks!
Rocket scientists are very well paid and respected too.
If you think your sim has what it takes to become a respected rocket scientist then go ahead and pick up this job. Rewards are aplenty at the latter stages of this career.
2. Social Services
Irresponsible simmers have probably felt the wrath of social service workers many times in their life as Sims players.

With this mod you’ll be able to have your sim work for them!
It’s still a rabbit hole career but there’s nothing quite as fun as seeing your sim work for a company that so many sim parents despise.
In any case, working for Social Services is nothing but an honorable profession. Help protect children from awful parents and shine as a state worker with this career mod.
1. YouTuber
Sure, the filming station might help you become a famous vlogger in The Sims 4.
But with this mod you’ll be able to actually become a famous YouTuber and watch your career propel you all the way into internet stardom!
We’ve all dreamt of becoming a YouTuber one day, or if we haven’t then we can at least admit it’s a cool way to make money. Well now your sim can actually do it with this incredibly modern and creative mod.
No matter what mod you choose just remember the Sims is all about variety and having fun. Maybe download a few, try them all out, and let us know what your favorites are.
