sorry for the intermittent hiatus, i’ve been trying to get caught up on farm work and just as I’m about to be done, at least four things fall apart. cycle of catching up.
#sigh#i have to separate my geese from my chickens and turkeys so they can be undisturbed for this breeding season#i need to separate them mostly because the geese keep nesting with the chickens meaning they’re crushing chicken eggs lol#so i have an area further back that is gor the geese but i need to finish prefator proofing as well as dividing the geese#into breeding groups. simon my biggest goose is currently bullying shrimp my smallest goose and I cant have her too stressed#oh and we had a windstorm that took the entire roof of the chicken coop and then the door off its hinges#so i have about 5 things i need to do while working my FT job and working through leather customs#rambles

Arete had finished singing to him. Her songs and dances never failed to bring a smile to his face. Although Garon missed his first wife dearly, Arete reminded him that love was still a sentiment within his heart. She pulled him from the brink of his grief and reminded him that life still had its joys.
As she returned to his side, he clapped for her. Slowly at first, but then he stood up, grinning, and gave her one man’s equivalent of a standing ovation.
“You deserve an entire audience clapping for you,” said Garon. “Praising you. Your songs are divine! A gift from the gods themselves.”
Upon hearing this, the attending servants took their cue to clap as well. Maids and butlers clapped and cheered, following the king’s lead. After a few minutes, he bade them to stop with a wave of his hand.
“Would you like a stage, my queen? I could arrange one in Nestra for you. That is ...” His voice trailed off as he gave her a teasing sort of smile. “If you wish to put every songstress and performer in the lands to shame.”

According to Gregorius of Tours, she was the daughter of Sigismund, King of the Burgundians, and perhaps of his wife Ostrogotho, daughter of Theodorich the Great, meaning she was twice of royal descent. Her dates of birth and death are unknown.

Hey, could you analyze the scene in Islands Apart where Cassandra and her father meet again?
Of course!
This scene is one of my favorites in the show. The buildup especially is done so well.
As Cass is sneaking around him, it definitely takes a second but the Captain can tell that something or someone is in the maze with him. I kinda like that his reaction is a little delayed compared to how quick her actions are. It subtly shows the differences in their age, and ir almost feels like Cass is a prefator stalking him. I especially love the rattle just before this shot.
Here, Cap finally realizes that Cass is right behind him. What’s amazing is he knows before Cass even takes out her sword. He probably sense her behind him.
What’s really amazing here is how quickly Cassandra is able to disarm her own father. This fight only lasts a few seconds, and it’s not even close. Cassandra wins by practically a landslide. I like that they did it that way, cause it really shows that the Captain truly has underestimated his daughter, both as a potential soldier and as an opponent.
It’s clear that Cass’s words do sting him from this shot here. However, that doesn’t exactly change his tone. This entire scene, he addresses her as a Captain rather than a father.
“Why have you turned your back on the princess?”
“I command you to SURRENDER!”
Cassandra’s face is very telling here. It’s been implied that this isn’t the first time he’s yelled at her like this before. Given the look on her face, that yell is probably what always made her cave in and obey.
Then she steels herself again and decides ‘not this time’.
And she traps him in a cave in. It still kinda haunts me how emotionless she looks here. She doesn’t look at all troubled at doing this to the man who raised her. If anything she looks almost annoyed that it took so long.
Cap’s last look here is heartbreaking. I think that this is the moment where he fully realizes whether intentional or not, he created a monster.
