Young Padawan Bastila: *in every possible way tries to wriggle out of awkward situations and questions or avoid detailed answers to questions about Revan*.
Wise Master Vrook: Well, if we start training you, how can we make sure the Dark Lord won't return? We're not certain that Revan is truly dead!
Amnesiac Revan: ...
Master Vrook: Obviously, we don't trust you!
Amnesiac Revan: ???

Bastilla more like Baestilla ammiright
I used to be a hard-core Bastilla hater when I first played KOTOR but now I get it
I have been converted. I GET ITTT
She's kinda like Katara from Avatar The Last Airbender because she gets sooooo much hate for just being a female character who's a fucking human being with doubts and negative emotions.
As a former "gifted child" I kind of relate to her in a way. The Jedi Council placed sooo much hope in her battle meditation and her potential yet it mistreats her and tells her to neglect herself and go on a dangerous mission and shit like this hits hard for me
"Bastila more like Bastila ammiright" YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
I totally know what you mean. I know there's all sorts of DeviantArt back in the day joking about her preaching "don't fall to the Dark Side!" And then "whoops I fell to the Dark Side!" And it was funny then. As I got older, I totally could see the struggle of striving for perfectionism and then being burned out. No one is perfect, and that's not a bad thing!
Bastila has sass, but it's a front for insecurity sometimes. She had to deal with her parents giving her up to the Jedi, the Jedi making her their prodigy, and then sending her off with who they assumed was a ticking time bomb with no help. Thanks guys. I know it depends on the dialogue choices, but Revan can really give her a shoulder to lean on, which it seems like no one ever does for her. (Don't even get me started about her having to raise a kid alone)
I mean, this young woman is what, 18-23ish? GIVE. THE. GIRL. A. BREAK. She's got some funny scenes/dialogue, a cute romance story, a great story arc, and I know there's not much in cut scenes with her companions, but they were all worried about poor Bastila by the end of the game and were glad that she was still alive. If anything, Bastila needed a vacation by the end of the game. Haha

Your point about the only thing Rey people being interested in was her relationship with Kylo and how that paralleled the Luke/Vader relationship is interesting. It would have added a lot of depth to the story if they'd been twins. Rey goes for the kiss. "No Rey, I'm your brother." lol. Awkward. Insanely awkward.
Hey, sorry but since I ship them and SW has already had enough soap opera-like "i'm your secret twin" last-minute revelations for my tastes I prefer them to be a romantic enemies to lovers pair - something that in SW (at least the movies; the EU was a bit different with Luke/Mara Jade and Revan/Bastila etc.) has never been seen before, so it adds an element of originality in what is basically Poor Man's OT. Same themes as Luke+Vader (love and compassion as a redemptive force) but not make it a family thing, please. That would have been uselessly redudant imo. What I meant with the Luke+Vader parallel is they're a similar brand of "the protagonist shares their most important relationship with an antagonist who turns to the Light thanks to their influence; said dynamic also challenges the main character's naive and black/white beliefs on evil&good, it challenges them to see the world under a different light". Rey didn't need to be a literal Skywalker, Kylo/Ben could have been enough for that as "one half of the protagonist/one side of the coin" - also because he has had to live with that legacy/lovable dysfunctional family for all his life while Rey struggled in a desert and Luke was "a myth" to her. She doesn't even know them; Vader&co. mean nothing to her (that's one of the many reasons the Rey Palpatine revelation feels so hollow - are we even sure she knew what a Palpatine was? lmao). The Vader Is Luke's Father plot works so well because he's the antagonist Luke has been fighting since Film 1, and Luke has been idolizing his dead dad since forever. This forces the kid to grow up - his world shatters, so he has to find a new sort of belief code. Similar to what her relationship with Kylo does (or should do) to Rey, but in a romantic key. Maybe a romance that redeemed the original star-crossed space lovers (Anidala) - this is all about Vader's legacy after all. In fact, it's all about that and how Leia couldn't (understandably) cope with it, and her son getting targeted by Snoke. Anakin's ghost should have definitely made an appearance in TROS and had an overdue talk with his grandson and his daughter but alas, "Palpatine somehow returned" but Anakin can't be bothered about his family I guess lol (that's deeply OOC of him - I'm saying this as a fan of the character).
But I agree with your point about Rey never failing/fucking things up/needing others' help. That's one of the reasons the audience feels like she's never really matured and changed. She needed to face her own demons, not someone else (specifically a man)'s. The angst about her parents abandoning her and treating her like shit should have sufficed: if she's shown her parents were Good People All Along and they were really coming back for her - well, that only reinforces her childish beliefs and never really puts her in the position to challenge them. Same as if Luke's dad had been a good guy, like he dreamed, and not literally Satan's right hand man. That's How To Write Protagonists 101 but I don't think Disneylucas ever cared about creating a somehow coherent story.

That first arc of the comic was very good! The Jedi sure are fucked. I love Zayne and Jarael a lot though. Gryph is pretty fun. I'm still thinking about sad captured Malak :( and his poor hair :(
I think Lucien has shot up the ranks of my least favorite Jedi. I don't know if he can quite beat Vrook but like... He's giving him a run for his money. His utter callousness about Shad's siblings has me seeing red. That man was never a protector or servant. He's utterly self interested and he doesn't even care to hide it as long as he thinks you'll be too dead to tell anyone. He's either not fooling himself that he's a good person or the cognitive dissonance is truly outstanding. Vandar can choke on a saber pike for defending him.
This comic really puts into perspective what Atton was talking about with the Jedi, how they only know how to lie and manipulate and destroy. It's not just in the course of war and it's not just against people like Revan or the Exile - it's their own, it's children and families, it's bounty hunters and bystanders, it's everyone all the time. The Jedi in power only care about power and protecting themselves.
The downside to Revan's culling and Jaq's revenge is that so often the Jedi who die are not the Jedi who deserve it and the Jedi who deserve it don't die. Malachor killed the Jedi who did go to fight and were willing to risk their lives for others. Jaq still said they deserved it and I don't agree -- don't even know if he agrees all of the time. The Jedi who died in the Civil War were young; Padawans and Knights and Junior Masters who went to protect their people while the Council sat and watched. Jedi like Bastila Shan. Jedi who had been controlled since they were toddlers.
The Sith killed the Jedi they could reach. Not the ones who were causing harm. It's a pointless cycle.
Zayne has the right idea going straight for the top. So did Kreia. I think collateral and hurting what you can because you can't hurt the person who actually hurt you first only keeps it going.
Anyway there was a panel of someone in a cloak who I presume is meant to be Revan? Their little war room looked very different from what I would describe as Revan's aesthetic though. Too opulent. I think Revan's very dramatic but very into dark and utilitarian war rooms. But that's just me.

It Blursday!! 🖤💜
WE’RE TAKING THE SQUADDIES TO EISENGARD!
You don’t have to fill all the roles, and they don’t all have to be from the same WIP, but who’s:
the Ring-bearer, entrusted with carrying the One Ring (bonus: funniest instance they use it to nope right out of reality)
the “Sam”, armed with a frying pan and a wizard of potatoes
Sean Bean, who dies in every movie — falls victim to their own hubris
totally crushing on Arwen and has a really cool sword
AND MY AXE
AND MY GLOCK BOW
Merry and Pippin the “package deal”, very concerned about missing second breakfast
the dude with a sick staff and a concerning amount of explosives, may or may not be an actual wizard
— @outpost51
I honestly had no idea what to do with this for days but now I decided to use it for my KOTOR playthrough/fic. Sooo here we go!
Ring-bearer: Bastila Shan. Poor Bastila, getting shouldered with this shit and having to deal with all of these people who are definitely going to get her in trouble. She just wants to save the galaxy, ok.
The "Sam": Carth Onasi. He's trying his best and wants to finish this mission, willing to go through anything to make sure that happens.
The Sean Bean: Malak, because it's true.
Totally crushing on Arwen and has a really cool sword: Revan. Not only if she crushing on Arwen, but also like everyone else around her because why not. Too many pretty people in the galaxy.
MY AXE: Juhani. Because he has a really awesome laser sword and she's good with it.
MY BOW: Canderous Ordo. Having him opposite Juhani is mostly for my entertainment, but I want to see them have a relationship where they compete on who can take out the most people and damn, would their bickering be so worth it.
Merry and Pippin: Mission and Zaalbar, mostly because they are already a package deal in the game BUT Zaalbar also just eats everything already so it's perfect.
The dude with a sick staff and a concerning amount of explosives, may or may not be an actual wizard: I'm going with Jolee Bindo on this one because not only with this old man kick your ass, he'll do it in the funniest way possible while insulting you.

tbh my biggest failing as a writer is that I lean way too hard into the unreliable narrator and sorta. forget. to make it clear that they are unreliable. both Revan and Eloi act like poor little meow meows for half their appearances so I guess it's... easier than I expected to forget that Revan literally sells someone into slavery and Eloi shoots his subordinate in the head for no reason. they're evil!! like of course they have sympathetic POVs, it's their POV. Revan does have a few moments of clarity when he's around Bastila but then goes right back to being a bastard. and I thought I had balanced this out well to make it clear they were being hypocrites, but in hindsight, at the current point in the fic, that is really not clear.

I just heard a rumor that Kathleen Kennedy is trying to reboot the original Star Wars trilogy and i am aghast at the very notion. Not that the trilogy is this perfect, unassailable, piece of content that can’t be re-imagined (fan fiction exists and I'm even in the process of writing one myself) but i absolutely loathe the idea of KK trying to usurp the core vision of Lucas. Listen, i love Star Wars. I love those characters. I love those worlds. I love that canon. Those stories are some of the best modern myths ever created and, while i acknowledge their place in the zeitgeist, those OG narratives are convoluted at best. I don’t think Kathleen Kennedy and her brand of “politics first” writing will benefit a revisit to the OG trilogy. Indeed, as i understand it, he’s tied this before in animated form and failed. Now, it’s a full blown, live action, remake with scripts being penned as we speak, by her writer’s group. The same writer’s group that felt dinosaurs should be a thing in Star Wars and a rock should be co-pilot on a starship.
The rumors continue that it would be Leia who takes front and center in KK’s trilogy, not Luke, and that the haphazard Obi-Wan retool we got, was the first step in that. Originally, that show was supposed to center around Ben and Luke, not Obi-Wan and Leia. The thing about that, though, is i kind of feel there is room for both of those stories in the Star Wars universe. Kenobi’s show was, by no means, great but it wasn’t terrible, either. I wrote a whole Postmortem on how you fix that show because it has the bones of something, just under all of the Reva bullsh*t. But that’s my point; I had to find the shine of that show because the writing was so goddamn poor. Because KK’s writing group got a hold of those scripts while Favreau was away on Ahsoka, priming the universe for a proper reboot and therein lies the crack in this plan Darth Kennedy plans to strike. Favreau is looking to use Ahsoka to totally erase, completely reboot the entire Disney Star Wars franchise but Kennedy is trying to use this as a means to spin out a Star Wars multiverse, one where her “vision” of a “force is female” in the most misandrist way, a universe unto itself that no one asked for, can co-exists with the original universe that everyone wants.
I love a solid multiverse, man, and Star Wars lends itself to the concept. In a multiverse like that, everything in Legends can be “canon” again and there is A LOT of dope sh*t in there. A multiverse would allow for characters like Mara Jade and Jaina Solo can be a thing, living along side Ahsoka Tano and Bastila Shan because the Force was already female and not in some stupid, SJW, PC Politics, bullsh*t sort of way. But Kennedy cant accept being just A PART of something greater. She NEEDS to be THE greatest, period. Kennedy wants to use this multiverse shenanigan to effectively erase everything that came before, to play sit-and-wait, while quietly sabotaging everything Favloni is trying to do, in an effort to prove that her version of Star Wars is the most profitable to the shareholders. Even though it’s very blatantly, not. It’s a shame because, removed from Kennedy’s childish, selfish, shortsighted, “vision”, there was a lot of decent sh*t in Disney Star Wars.
It’s been a few years so can we all agree that Solo was decent? Arguably the most Star Wars-y thing Disney has made since they got the license? I mean, after Rogue One, of course. Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren had so much goddamn potential. Hell, i was even on board for Rey during The Force Awakens and the trajectory she had before KK derailed that arc, was absolutely intriguing. I love Dr. Aphra and the Vader comic has been fantastic. Mando is dope as f*ck, but i think that has more to do with Favreau that Kennedy, regardless of what the media wants you to believe. There is a lot of solid gold, buried in the utter sh*t of KK’s Lucasfilm but i do not have confidence in her take on the OG trilogy. She’s too bitter to come at that mess with an objective eye and will probably make her version of Leia some sort of self insert. She, Kathleen Kennedy in a poorly veiled caricature of Leia Ogana, will save a galaxy far, far, away, like it should have been from the very beginning. Kathleen Kennedy thinks Lucas’ first trilogy is a mistake and Kennedy is going to erase that mistake, come hell or high water. Because the people in charge of writing these new versions think a rock can fly a starship.

Fumbling
It's been a while since I drafted this....or posted any fic....but here we go with a ridiculously sappy, slightly smutty rarepair one-shot. Headcanon says Bastila & Carth are 100% a thing and totally perfect for each other and I'll happily sail on that ship alone. Headcanon also says they are 100% sappy. Also the Hawk ships it.... Read the whole thing on AO3 here. If you want to know what happens before this scene, read Lovefool (rated T!). Or after, read Hands (also T!)
Force, she knew what she wanted - just like she had when she’d grabbed him in the cantina - even as she blinked back the unfamiliar desire. There is no emotion…. The code she’d recited countless times scratched at the back of her head, reminding her of the danger of the wanting. The Republic isn’t going to burn if you let yourself feel whatever it is that you feel. Aoibhinn’s words threatened to drown out that warning. Tempting to let that happen. Bastila blinked again, realizing she was on the edge of following the advice of a Mandalorian over her Jedi masters. But what if they were wrong about love? Such a selfish thought.
Sighing, she turned to go to the dorms; as she did, her eye landed on the jacket he’d left lying on the table when they’d come in. There is no emotion…. Her heart lurched at it. Stupid. It was just a jacket, only a practical piece of clothing, not important. Her brain thought those things, but her heart wanted to touch it, to bring it to her nose, to be reminded of his scent, the one she’d inhaled so deeply when they kissed on the street. Trust yourself.
Bastila realized then that her entire life had been spent following the rules and commands of others - her parents when she was small, the order for some 20 odd years - of living up to their expectations at the cost of her own desires. Yet she was neither a child nor a tool, rather a woman, a woman who was holding a jacket and very much wishing she was in the arms of the man who wore it, no matter that it made no sense. No matter that it stood to benefit no one other than herself. Reciting the code and pinning her hands wouldn’t stop what she felt. Do you love him? She’d asked Aoibhinn that question earlier, now asked herself. Do I know what love is?

You know what quote really gets me in KOTOR 2?
"It would have helped had he made her understand. But she was always strong-willed, that one, and did not understand war as Revan did." -Kreia Knights of the Old Republic 2
Kreia being the cynical dark side jerk just throws it around that Bastila had to stay behind while Revan went off to fight the Sith empire alone. I like how everyone in the galaxy knows about Revan and Bastila, and how he left his wife behind. I understand that he had no way of knowing that it was pointless to go do what he did, and he couldn't know that he'd end up stuck for 300 years. But DUDE....you left your wife and child to live without you, and the whole galaxy talks about it! Poor Bastila.
(I know she's capable and raises Vaner just fine on her own, but she shouldn't have to. She was redeemed from the dark side by love, and that love literally leaves you a year later for "the greater good". Nobody gets a happy ending in Star Wars ever.)
Anyways....just venting.

Doing my second playthrough, and I just got to the part on Taris post-swoop-race where Bastila joins the party. And poor Bas. In addition to getting abducted and imprisoned, it’s like...
FML, is it seriously just amnesiacRevan and me stuck on this planet?
No wait, Carth Onasi survived too. Okay, can work with that
Carth sent not-Revan to “save” me, so not-Revan’s new wiring must be holding up? So far so good
And then they make it back to the hideout.
Wait they recruited??? adopted??? a 14-year-old???
And there’s a Wookie here too
Why is there a Wookie here. How did they even find a Wookie here
Oh, the Wookie is Big Z and he has sworn a life debt to amnesiacRevan
Because of course that’s happened, why wouldn’t that happen
“I’ve been having these weird dream visions of you fighting dark Jedi, Revan, I guess”

She did. Ari sensed her panic, asked her what was wrong and didn’t question when she lied. (She thought about the lying a lot and panicked at poor Carth.) Carth definitely did and was just really confused.
lol
I feel bad for all three of them in this situation. Especially Bastila trying to keep this ginormous secret.
It’s also lowkey hilarious, tho.
