End of year ask: 18?
18. A memorable meal this year?
Oh man, this is a tough question to answer and yet also the one I feel like I should have most expected.
Maybe not a "meal" but I had a really great time making my stupidly elaborate pomegranate mousse cake. It took three days, was insane, and yet was extremely deeply satisfying. Similarly, my 190 proof limoncello was satisfying, even if I did have to mix it with lemonade just to be able to drink it. This is the year I learned to make ramen eggs, apple pie cookies that my family literally stole from my fridge because they were so good, and also vegan pastry cream (though I had to re-make it, because it tasted like sweet plastic when I used soy milk.)
In terms of food I didn't make for myself....well, the most memorable meals aren't really about the food. The night I went out with my coworker and we got hammered during a cooking class, then proceeded to psychoanalyze the office over Mexican food was fantastic. My youngest brother moved to Chicago earlier this year, and wandering around street fairs with him, eating fried foods and drinking beer while some local band performs under an awning, has probably been one of my top ten experiences ever.
I love food for its own sake, I really do, but when it comes to meals it's really about who you eat them with.

In clockwise order: Kerr, Jay, Warrick, and Luka
Kerr's cake looks fairly standard from the outside: pretty simple, cute frosting puppy, requisite clover. Then you take a bite and discover whiskey and orange, with a sweet white chocolate center filling.
Jay's cake is raspberry and rhubarb, tart and a little too much for some people. The roses and black decor offset the bright pink and tartness like a car accident.
No one knows how he did it, but somehow Warrick's cake taste's exactly like Sour Patch Kids candy. He was too impatient to wait for it to cool, so the frosting melted and now it just kinda looks like a sludge monster.
Luka's cake looks like a goddamn masterpiece. It's immaculate, not a swirl or pomegranate seed out of place. The cake itself is a simple vanilla base, but with pomegranate curd and mousse.

okay so this ask has been sitting in my inbox for YEONKS for a rainy day im so sorry but hello!!! yes meet my protagonists of my used-to-be-called-cryptid-but-spiralled-and-now-needs-to-be-renamed-desperately au.
(it's based off the idea that if all the cookies were cryptids..,,,,, then who are the normies?? and then separately (literally since i started playing) - these enemies are so cute i wonder why there aren't any gijinkas of them)
BAM! excuse the paper im in maths class rn
look at the line up! the idea is they're all picked up as the story progresses, so they're all representative of the different regions of earthbread. to some extent. we haaaave (L to R)
black licorice (7-ish): was stolen/lost as a baby after the purge (<- hyperbole. not really sure what happens to the cacao kingdom yet) into the licorice sea. 'raised' by the spirits within; meaning he can speak a bunch of languages but is partially if not entirely blind. and also very emo and goopy. ambush type
tropical soda (mid-20s): escaped from the oven and ran to the beach (kinda ovenbreak-adjacent map ig?? idk shit about ovenbreak) and got picked up by au! mango who is a grim reaper. but bc shes not capital-D dead and because of crowned cream cake's crown she escaped from purgatory (tropical soda islands) support type.
pomegranate mousse (teen): sole surviving member of the pomegranate priestesses! wields + cultivates a sapling from The Sacred Tree, currently looking for a place to replant it. magic type
crowned cream (teen): if gingerbrave is the first cookie to escape from the oven, she's the first cake to escape from the tower of chaos! red velvet's 'daughter' in a way.,
very berry (teen): possibly some kind of maid or barmaid looking after hollyberry castle in it's destitution.?? design pending! defence type!
best part is? they're all based off cake hounds!

I just was thinking about this earlier but what dictates whether or not a cookie is related to another? Rambutan lives in a village literally just called the rambutan village and everyone there is a rambutan (save for "mangosteen") But iirc it never suggested, implied or said that any of them are directly related to each other. The same can be said for the pomegranate village and the churro village, all being the same type of cookie but not inherently related
But then you have cookies that are just closely related or similar that are canon family, like rollcake and pancake both being "cakes" and brothers, wasabi and mustard both being tart/spicy condiments and parent and child, and raspberry mousse and raspberry are both the same fruit and are cousins I thnk? (I don't remember specifically)
So what is the decipher in whether or not cookies are family? Are they all just able to use the same/similar ingredients but aren't related unless they come from the same batch? I thought so but that doesn't make sense, because rollcake, wasabi and raspberry mousse are older than pancake, mustard and raspberry but are still family, meaning they couldn't have been made in the same batch
Conclusion: null. i guess they just adopt each other if they feel like it lol. Or maybe they're considered family if they were made with the same ingredients just at different times, like using the same bag of flour to make multiple different batches of cookies days or months inbetween (more logical conclusion: not even devsis knows and they just do whatever works in the moment)
