Ratitas De Puerto Rico Se Ofenden

The Dad Who Taught Lin-Manuel Miranda Retail Politics
Tumblr media
Though his career is not in the theatre, Luis is possibly even more animated than his son. “Everyone who meets Luis Miranda goes, ‘Your play is good, but your dad is a character,’ ” Lin-Manuel said. In “Siempre, Luis,” a new HBO documentary about Luis, directed by John James, Lin-Manuel describes his father as a “relentless motherfucker,” not unlike another Caribbean-born politico, Alexander Hamilton. “It keeps surfacing in my work,” Lin-Manuel went on. “I’m in awe of people who come to New York from somewhere else and make a life for themselves here.”
Luis grew up in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, a small town west of San Juan. His father, Luis, Sr. (nicknamed Güisin), was the local credit-union manager. “If you needed five hundred bucks, you went to see Güisin,” Luis recalled. “Lin-Manuel says that he always had the fantasy of my dad being like the banker in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ You could not walk through town without my dad being stopped all the time, so much that I swore to myself that I would never name my kid Luis. Never ever. Because I didn’t have a name. I’m back to not having a name. I’m Lin-Manuel’s dad. After my eighteen years in Vega Alta, I was ‘Güisin’s son, the one who left and went to New York.’ ”
In 1974, Luis—young, scrappy, hungry, and newly married to his seventh-grade sweetheart—was recruited to a Ph.D. program in clinical psychiatry at New York University. With ten dollars from his father, he left his wife behind in Puerto Rico, moved in with an aunt in Chelsea, and got a job at a nonprofit, where his salary was five dollars an hour, twice what he had made at a Sears back home. He said, “I remember calling my wife that night and saying, ‘Baby, New York is the shit. My salary just doubled, and all I had to do was take a plane! ” The marriage didn’t last—he met Lin-Manuel’s mother, Luz, through the N.Y.U. program—nor did his career as a therapist. “I quickly realized that I am not cut out to be the kind of psychologist that I was being trained to be,” he recalled. “I would be sitting there thinking, You’re such a loser! Do something! We talked about this problem the last two months! Please.”
“Luis Miranda as your psychologist is nightmare fuel,” Lin-Manuel said.
Luis and Luz moved to Washington Heights in 1980, the year Lin-Manuel was born. “We got involved in electing Hispanic school-board members in District 6,” Luis said. “I had picketed Ed Koch every time he came to our community, because we were fighting for more schools.” Luis, whose colorful belligerence matched Koch’s, talked his way into a job as the mayor’s director of Hispanic affairs. “I very weirdly remember the day he was hired,” Lin-Manuel, who was seven at the time, recalled. “I was watching the episode of ‘Good Times’ when John Amos’s character died, and I was hysterically crying. And my dad came home a half hour later with this letter on mayoral stationery and said, ‘Your dad got a new job!’ ” Growing up, Lin-Manuel ran around Gracie Mansion at holiday parties and picked up lyrical skills from Inner Circle shows, which featured song parodies making fun of Koch. “I never got to go, but my dad would bring home programs,” he said. “Because I grew up worshipping Weird Al, I just thought it was so cool that they were ripping the mayor to shit to Michael Jackson tunes.” In 1998, Luis formed a consulting firm, through which he helped Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton win their Senate seats. (“The dude was relentless,” he said of Schumer.) More recently, he helped Letitia James become the attorney general of New York. Lin-Manuel, meanwhile, channelled the retail side of politics into “Hamilton.” “I remember Andrew Cuomo seeing the show and saying to me, ‘You learned politics at the kitchen table,’ ” he said.
Now that “Hamilton” is big business, Luis applies his behind-the-scenes boosterism to his son. A month before Hurricane Maria, in 2017, he opened a commercial courtyard in Vega Alta called La Placita de Güisin, with an arepa stand, a mosaic of Lin-Manuel as Hamilton alongside Luis’s father, and a gallery called Museo Miranda, displaying “Hamilton” fan art, family photos, and one of Lin-Manuel’s Tonys. Lin-Manuel wasn’t always the pride of his father’s home town. “When I went to visit as a kid,” he recalled, “I was introduced as ‘Ese es el de Luisito que se fue’: ‘That’s the kid of Luis who left.’ ”

[ENGLISH]
In Puerto Rico for days we were demonstrating against the "governor" Ricardo Rossello, who mocked the town in a chat, in which minor crimes were found and also, before that, corrupt politicians came to light, which they got involved with education and put the lives of people in the country at stake.
On the other hand, right now, we are in uncertainty, Ricardo resigned and it is not known who will be the next leader of the country.
We still fight for our homeland, we still go for more.

WEEK 12 Reflection
week 12 Young Lords - Pussy Riot
Tumblr media
Since I was a child I have been influenced by politics by my foster family who is involved in politics and take me to political events such as marches, political campaigns  and other activities that instilled in me many of the things that I know now. things that I partly agree with and others that I don't. More than anything from my family I learned to respect the opinion of the opponent, "el opositor" "los de derecha” I remember that they said / Inclusive my mother, someone with whom I have lived for eight years and who "does not like much politics "you have her  ideologies and they are very similar to my familys. says" somos de derecha" There are things that I express better in spanish and sound so much better, so if i say sentences in spanish, thats my explanation. I am in place where I find benefits from both and I can't really say “ i am this or that” or “I am so against this or that” i Believe that everything depends and that we shouldn't be so absolute in the things we believe. Figures like Che Guevara are so familiar to me, “ revolution, socialism, communism, capitalism, etc”  that I grew up hearing and I am no expert in these stuff, but these are things that are so imporatnt to know, so that people have a say and fight for the type of  system they want. Sometimes its a bit confusing to me based on the relationships that many countries have for example, The Pussy Riot, wants President Vladimir Putin out , and in the video we observe the Protest being held are agsint Capitalism, yet I am not sure what kind of  system they want it wasnt well explained, at least thats what i think. in the young lords documentary is well said that they want a socialist system, which is the one that doesnt have  social classes and that production of goods is or can be owned  or regulated by a community as a whole, like i said i dont consider my self an expert and I am a believer that things are mostly driven by a single word yet is more than that.  Its very common to see protest like these in many latin American countries, just recently, Evo Morales, president of Bolivia resigned , and we saw this protests phenomena in many other latin countrie such as Chile, Honduras, Nicaragua in past last two years. I believe its important for the pople to demand the things they want from their Government, regardless their ideologies everyoe should have a voice and should be heard. it is okay to oppose and contradict , we all have different perspectives. One thing that really called my attention when i was watching the young lords doc. was when the young lords didnt know how to work thingd in Puerto Rico, and i believe its hard, i always say that its hard to ask and fight for things in a place one hasnt lived in or shared with  experiences in such land, thats why i myself try not to involve myslef or try to impose my ideologies of what should be done in a situation or place i havce never been in. I can only speak for my own experiences. Also with the Young Lords I get the idea that they are against imperealism (I am) SIEMPRE ME A MOLESTADO LA IDEA DE UN PAIS  EXTRANGERO IMPONIENDO REGLAS EN OTROS PAISES” i am in favor of having good relationships hasta ahi no mas).  I know most of my posts are me just talking about the things i believe but these are the kind of stuff that comes to my mind, my thoughts are so messy i want to talk about so many things its hard for me to keep it organized. Anyways, In both documentaries I see people protesting for what they want and i like it, I like, I wish there wasnt a need to do that and that our needs and our rights didnt depend on a system that favors only some people.

Protest held in two different time periods, Both asking for rights, that should be given, without question.

The Sanders Institute, the Vermont-based think tank formed by Sen. Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane, in 2017, has quietly lined up progressive activists from across the country for a three-day gathering next week in Burlington, assembling a speaker lineup billed as “thought leaders from across the country and around the world.”
Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont, is expected to speak at the event’s opening but will not make any announcement about his plans for a potential 2020 campaign, sources familiar with the events said.
Listed speakers include New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Our Revolution President Nina Turner, intellectual and activist Cornel West, “The Young Turks” founder Cenk Uygur, environmentalist Bill McKibben, writer and activist Naomi Klein, and Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
RoseAnn DeMoro, former executive director of National Nurses United, the powerful union that supported Sanders in his unsuccessful 2016 presidential run, is listed as a speaker. So is Peter Knowlton, national president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, whose union also endorsed Sanders against Hillary Clinton.
The actors John Cusack and Danny Glover are also expected to speak.
The event coincides with the release of Sanders’ new book, “Where We Go from Here: Two Years in the Resistance,” and follows a furious spate of campaigning by Sanders ahead of the midterm elections. Sanders, a favorite of progressives, has polled well ahead of the 2020 election, trailing only former Vice President Joe Biden in a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll of Democratic voters released last week.
Blue America PAC’s Howie Klein, a prominent blogger, activist and Sanders supporter, said he was invited to the event several months ago but cannot attend because he will be out of the country. He said preliminary planning appeared to include panels and, potentially, music.

NUNCA TERMINAN BIEN. PRUEBA CLARA DE QUE EN EL LENGUAJE…

Nueva noticia publicada en LaFlecha
New Post has been published on https://laflecha.net/cual-es-el-rol-politico-del-fundador-de-la-criptomoneda-tron/
