saw hadestown last night, here’s what happened with it
- one of hermes’ earring fell out at the beginning of the show so she just only had the one hoop for the whole of act 1
- phillip boykin forgot some of the words to chant and then later called out for act 2 and was replaced by max kumangai
- orpheus ripped the knee of his pants after he got beat up by the workers

Unpopular opinion maybe?: I don't hate the current Broadway cast of Hadestown?
While Betty Who isn't my favorite Persephone, I don't hate her like other people do? There aren't many clips of her but from what I've seen I like her actually And I do trust Ani Difranco since she's played Seph before.
Jordan Fisher was in Dear Evan Hansen and did great so I trust him with the role of Orpheus.
And other cast members like Solea Pfeiffer and Phillip Boykin are excellent! There was a boot with Solea on YouTube for a little while (it's gone now tho--) and I think I may like her a little more than Eva. And the audio and few videos of Phillip Boykin as Hades are awesome!! He vaguely reminds me of Ken Page.
Idk, I've just been seeing some negative stuff about the current cast and just wanted to put in my 2 cents. While I am a little worried about the implications of all the stunt casting, at least the actors are good. (in my opinion at least)
And I think everyone agrees the 2024 West End cast is great so at least we have that!
(there's also the small group of National Tour Cast enthusiasts like myself ^^)

it's been half a year and I'm still thinking about Phillip Boykin's performance as Hades. Absolutely loved his interpretation of the role

Hadestown Review - From Months Ago!
So, I saw Hadestown with Jordan Fisher as Orpheus. Let me just say, he slayed! I went in blind to who was on the cast like I usually do with Broadway shows. I was surprised to see someone I knew, especially from a show I barely watched like Liv and Maddie. I loved his voice and his chemistry with the actress, Solea Pfeiffer as Eurydice. Solea Pfeiffer was a spectacular Eurydice. Her predecessor Eva NoblezadaI was just so amazing as Eurydice that I doubt anyone can reach her level ever again. I am now a fan of Eva for life! Still, Solea's acting and singing were so good that I only see higher roles in her future. I also am in love with her hair, I wish I had the dedication to put effort into that.
The fact that both couples, Hades and Persephone, were short boy, tall girl couples was a cute parallel. Phillip Boykin as Hades was good, didn't stand out much but still a good actor and singer. Didn't get the best chemistry vibes between him and Betty Who as Persephone. The dance seen though always makes me smile and these two did that very well. Seriously though, Betty Who probably let me down the most with her portrayal of Persephone. I love Amber Gray as Persephone, she brought the free spirit, love, and wildness I could see the goddess of spring bring to the show. One of my favorite songs, Our Lady Of The Underground, was not a masterpiece with Betty as a soloist. She tried her best, but I needed more from her to be on the same level as Amber Gray, especially in acting.
I went in expecting to see a male Hermes based on the soundtrack and got Lillias White instead. She did a great job, I just prefer a deep, male voice for his part in the songs. It might also be my bias for Andre de Shields as Hermes. The Fates were amazing, they blended so well and harmonized beautifully. There was one Fate whose voice I wasn't in love with when she soloed, but when they were a group - mwah! The fact that I can't remember which one that was shows how strong they were as a group.
Don't get me started on the choreography and chorus, they are the backbone of this show. Especially when the show moves to Hadestown, the set was well done but the chorus made the environment real. Honestly, the show would not have been the same without the hard work of the chorus and their part in the dance numbers. Shout out to everyone behind the scenes that I didn't get to see on stage.
Overall, my favorites were the Fates with Orpehus in second place. Loved the entire show, it was really sweet and sad and real. Highly recommend it, must be watched by anyone interested at least once on Broadway. I swear the next show I'm seeing has to be Lion King. It is been on my list for a while, to see my grandma - all my love to her 🩷, I just have to win the lottery!
