Unpopular opinion meets interesting observation: Tommy and Marisol were accidentally written as the same character.

Not a one to one match, but:

Both are characters who appeared in previous episodes

Both exist in s7 because Tim didn’t want to start over with brand new characters for Buck and Eddie’s love lives

Both triggered a “discovery” within their respective partner

Both are being presented as important love interests despite zero romantic development

We’ve seen one real date each from both pairings

We’ve seen a misunderstanding lead to a second chance from both pairings

We’ve seen both Buck and Eddie question their own behavior in regard to how they are dealing with their interest for Tommy and Marisol

Now, this isn’t a “which couple is better or worse” post. I think both have potential, but I am starting to wonder if perhaps Tim was so dead set on not repeating a previous cycle with Buck and Eddie’s romantic arcs, that he didn’t realize he wrote them into the same relationship? One is queer while the other is het, but there is no real difference. Except Marisol is a side female character, and unfortunately 911 does a terrible job giving bare minimum complexity to them, in a way they don’t seem to struggle to do with side male characters.

But I mean, Tommy showed up to the bachelor party and wedding because Buck asked, the same way Marisol showed up to help chaperon Chris’s first date because Eddie asked.

Point is, Buck and Eddie are on the same romantic journey. Which is what I’ve been trying to say with my other posts, but it took me a few days to finally articulate it. Now that I have, I can say this is why I don’t think there is a clear way to decipher which pairing will be endgame and which won’t. It’s why I think BuckTommy shippers are being exagerant in their bias, while Buddie shippers are being fearful in theirs. Because there is nothing happening either way.

We don’t know what kind of romance Tommy likes. We don’t know what kind of romance Marisol likes. We do know one of their similar hobbies though, lol. They both like repairing old things. We also know they both struggled to find themselves in their younger adulthood.

So you can’t want one gone but not the other without misogyny coming into play, because they are essentially the same character. And I do not for a second believe any of this was intentional. I’ll eat my pillow of it turns out it was, but I think Tim and ABC played it too safe with how Buck’s coming out was written, because they gave him a relationship instead of a personal self-discovery wherein he got to date around again or have a one night stand again yet otherwise stayed single this season.

Buck and Eddie are two characters whose stories are often intertwined, and from the looks of it, giving them both blank slate relationships at the exact same time has resulted in writing them into the same relationship. It’s both interesting and very funny, if I must say.

I can write an essay about this little fucking menace. Nothing about him is normal and I love him to death. Boy, they need to learn how to form relationships with others. My beast man. My creature.

Favorite moment Every c!Punz moment is my favourite moment for how few there are. I really wish I was there for the pet war. But given how "normal" I am about LONG TIME NO SEE BUDDY!!! it's probably their reunion with c!Dream. Or when he calls c!clingies stupid, that was awesome too.

Idea for a story Oh, I have a Several of those. All of them are aus, because aus is what I (don't) do best. Okay, but one of them would be existing in the what should have been dsmp s2. Basically since the samsara have been reset and everyone's memories have been lost I thought that c!Punz is going to be fucking alone again. And I had this idea that perhaps as the smp grows there appear memory fragments all around that would show like the images of the past samsara. And it was supposed to be like one of the biggest things in the plot, perhaps somehow connected to the egg or well, something that hatched from the egg and trancended the Samsara, but we don't talk about that. So I think Punz would get a small glimpse of being by Dream's side, so he goes on a quest to be Dream's merc, but Dream is just has no need for a mercenary so he asks them if they would like to be his friend instead and it's basically just Punz learning how to exist in Dream's and his friend's company.

Unpopular opinion By Universe Punz cares less about the plan or any murderous scheme and more about Dream. The fact that he gets to kill people and get power goes as a nice bonus for being by Dream's side. They are very obsessed with Dream and if Dream goes to the end of the Universe they'll go too, if Dream drops the plan, they will too. He will be upset that all they did was null, but that just how it is, like. Everyone would after months of prep.

Favorite relationship One and only c!drunz of course. No one gets them like me. Also c!Punznap. They are the most wondrous creature ever. And as interesting direction to think in would be with c!Techno. Most of it is just audhd 4 audhd.

Favorite headcanon a) I LIVE and DIE on the hill of Lynx!Punz b) I have that headcanon that I got from watching c!Punz real closely and it's the fact that they probably don't know how to form close human connections. The closest human connections they had is the relationship between the employer and the employee or saying hi to neighbors. And that's why I think they got so obsessed with Dream because he was like the first person who wanted that human c!Punz, not the mercenary c!Punz.

Tumblr seems to have decided to make my life more difficult than it needs to be by forbidding me from switching on the anon ask. Is this gonna stop @curiousnonny from asking me random things ? Obviously not. Neither will it stop me from answering.

Here goes !

Cinna. Cinna. I am going to go unpopular opinion on everyone by saying Cinna did not matter a lot to me, both in the books and the movies. He was obviously a mentor figure to Katniss, in the same way Haymitch was. Both were father figures to a girl who lost her father, whom she loved the most and had a very close relationship with. But where Haymitch was the relatable one (same district, same stigma, same horrors, same way of thinking, same background, potential futur, etc...) Cinna was the Opposite Attract one. So very different from her, so very Capitole (still more "subdued" than Effie was but undoubtedly Capitole) yet so very understanding, comprehensive to her when Haymitch was cynical and harsh. Cinna was meant to show Katniss and us readers that yes he was Capitole, but being Capitole doesn't mean being evil. Where Effie was droning about manners and respect to dead walking kids, Cinna was "your life is horrible and this unfair so i'm gonna do everything i can to give you an edge". He was a Capitole, therefore an enemy by nature, but he gave her a weapon to fight in war already lost.

I think the guy was already thinking about being a stylist for the Games, because he has to build his brand, you know, we all have to work to put bread on the table at some point, and the Games are a surefire way to become renowned. But perhaps he wanted it to be meaningful you know ? He is an artist first and foremost. And stand by the idea that,, yeah the Capitole is infinitely richer than Districts, but every Capitole citizen isn't born with a silver wig and gold on ever fingers. Perhaps he was born in a poorer part of the city, from an average family, and therefore knows what it means to work to go up and above your station. Which would make him more sympathetic to Districts and Tributes. Perhaps he saw the horror under the glitter. Which would make him hesitant to work for the Games unless it is meaningful.

Enters Katniss. Who was not reaped. But who was brave enough to volunteer. Like everyone he watched Twelve's Reaping znd saw a girl run from the rank of terrified kids and through lines of Peacemaker to stop her little sister from walking to her death. A girl terrified but who did not let it stop her.

Meaningful enough, I'd say. He probably volunteered straight away to Seneca Crane to be Twelve's stylist. A position no one wants because Haymitch is a monster and Effie is no better. But for this girl ? Damn, all his muses must have reared their little heads.

As for the rebellion plan... if i stand by the "poorer" Cinna headcanon, that means the guy's outlook on his world is pretty real. He knows what this is, he can recognizes a monster when he sees one and President Snow is the greatest evil he's ever seen. That makes him pretty rebellious to begin with. And perhaps he knows to keep his trap shut but perhaps he also doesn't hide his feelings that much. Which would attract Plutarch's eyes early i think. And Plutarch, for all his flaws, is a genius mastermind. He sees a volunteer from a lower District, and he sees a heroin in the making. He sees a cape and a dress made of flames on that girl and he sees a symbol. And he sees defiance on that girl's face and he sees a leader. And that girl, whom is still very much a girl with her little boys problems in spite of the very bleak future ahead of her, trusts literally nothing Capitole. Unfortunate, that. Enters Cinna who shares his beliefs. Howdy, partner ! Yeah me and my boss really like your ideas, you wanna be a key player in the underground war raging in Panem for the last 74 years ? Hop on buddy. We just need a teeny tiny thing to make it blow up, nothing much... just the girl you dressed up as a fiery goddess of war. What ? Haymitch will never let us get to her ? He's fiercely protective of this girl ? That might be a problem. Oh but wait... the guy is freaking brilliant. Let's recruit him too. One stone three mockingjays. Yay Plutarch !

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Cassian. I liked him in ACOMAF and ACOWAR, but ACOSF ruined him for me. Before this book, his friendship with Feyre was amazing. They shared a fun banter. He helped train Feyre and show her she can be strong and powerful. And Feyre never balked at him, never looked down at him, and kinda saw him as a brotherly figure. And he once defended Feyre to Nesta; had stood between the two sisters just to protect Feyre because he wasn’t sure if Nesta was going to hurt her. But ACOSF totally ruined his character.

Formerly a smart general in charge of an army, Cassian was reduced to little more than a man blinded by lust. He jumped into bed with Nesta, even knowing what she did to Feyre and that she showed no remorse/regret for her treatment. He totally disregarded Feyre and the complications of her pregnancy in the favor of spending time with Feyre’s abuser. I don’t understand how you could do that to someone you consider a friend.

But perhaps it isn’t that surprising. After all, he had little regard for Azriel’s feelings when he willfully played the barrier between him and Mor. He knew that it hurt Azriel when he flirted with Mor, but still did it. If Feyre or Elain had done that to someone Nesta liked, they would be crucified in the fandom. And yet, the only person that receives hate for this is Mor. Perhaps she should’ve made it clear to Azriel that she didn’t like him, but at the end of the day, it is not her responsibility. Azriel should’ve grown up and simply asked Mor if she had feelings. Or better yet, moved on when he saw she made no moves to turn their relationship romantic after being friends for centuries.

i completely agree with you. acosf cassian was nothing like acomaf/acowar cassian and it still breaks my heart thinking about this. sjm destroyed cassians character and for what? everything i loved about cassian was pretty much stripped from him in acosf.

i've said this before and i'll say it again: cassian's role in acosf was reduced to be a fuck buddy, trainer and a semi-therapist. absolutely no character development whatsoever, and the little character traits that we had of cassian that we adored in him, was gone too.

i still dont know how cassian ended up falling for nesta or "seeing" something in her since acomaf. like oh so you're gonna call out feyres abuser but then start fantasizing about her immediately?? it doesnt make sense to me. their whole relationship, the way it starts off, just doesnt make sense to me because of the close friendship cass has with feye.

idk about y'all but i would not be entertaining the idea of seducing my friends abuser or even flirting with them, like thats so wrong??

the man literally just gave no fuck about feyre potentially dying. feyre his friend, his little sister figure. the female he was distraught for after learning she had sacrificed herself and went back to spring court for them. he litterally did not care at all for feyre. he didnt even try to help rhys find a solution. he didnt even try to spend time with feyre. the cassian we knew and loved was truly gone. and for what really?? so that he can keep on staring at nesta's ass in illyrian leathers and just think about sex and sex and sex 24/7?

a true friend would never do that but cassian forgot what it means to be a friend, a brother, in acosf, not only to feyre but to rhysand too.

in regards to the morrigan, azriel and cassian situation:

personally, i think cassian playing the "buffer" between them is not a bad thing, and i actually really respected him for it. the way i see it is cassian helping out my girl Mor in terms of keeping az away from her. like putting distance between them, bc even cass could see mor wasnt reciprocating azriels feelings lmao, and tbh i dont rlly care if az got butthurt or not.

i understand that cassians actions may have hurt his brothers feelings but he also was helping out his friend mor too so like idk im okay with what cass decided to do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

★ Do I like this episode? Why or why not?

this episode is easily way up there in my personal favorites. if i'm absently desiring to watch any random episode of south park, there's like a 3 in 4 chance that it's not-so-random and i put this one on. focus on stan and kyle, witty commentary on an at-the-time relevant cultural phenom, discrete story arc, a deadpan rug-pull ending. truly has it all.

★ Favorite moment?

when stan comes hat in hand to kyle playing at the bowling alley to say he wants to play with kyle again. kyle's shakespearean hysterics over stan coming to sweep him up "from the bowels of mediocrity" to stan's submissive apologetics over just wanting his buddy back. truly i live for the strife because i love watching stan and kyle fight and make up.

★ Least favorite moment?

i don't have a least favorite moment in the sense that i dislike any specific portion of the episode, but i would say my least favorite would be stan conked out playing heroin hero on the couch with no shirt, spit-up, and his ugly hair just because i dislike seeing stan made pathetic.

★ Do I have an unpopular opinion about this episode? What is it?

what would be an unpopular opinion for this episode? perhaps i'd say this is an episode where i genuinely would miss randy's presence in the b plot. i like him a lot when he is tangentially related to what's happening in the main story but in a way where he is removed from having real effects on its outcome, and he serves well to poke fun at the entire notion of the boys caring deeply and being invested in this game as opposed to, y'know, making real music.

would change nothing. truly everything about this episode is beat for beat perfect for me.

love that stan and kyle are apparently into prog rock. and kyle playing the gayest song imaginable dejectedly at the bowling alley. this episode, in addition to hearing "dust in the wind" on the radio a lot as a kid, turned me into a kansas fan when i saw it as a tween lol.

For the character breakdown thing: Gaius Baelsar

Give me a character and I’ll break them down:

I got rambley again, whoops. I didn't mean to go on this long about Gaius of all people.

How I feel about this character:

I loved to hate him as a villain in ARR, and while I was initially very annoyed by his return in 4.3, he's grown on me as a character with a lot of possibilities as he restructures his entire world view.

He knows he's done wrong, and learns more and more just how wrong he was and what harm he perpetuated. He doesn't expect nor want forgiveness for any of it; he just wants to do what he can to prevent more hurt and clean up his mistakes.

Honestly, I think one of the reasons I like (as a character/literary device) Gaius now is because he would fit into a Roger Zelazny novel; so many of his protagonists were terrible men, and his best epics were about characters that had changed and worked to deal with the consequences of their past and help their present while others note how different they are (Sam in Lord of Light, Corwin in Chronicles of Amber, etc). So Gaius hits a trope I cut my teeth on as a young reader from one of the Grandmasters of Sci-Fi/Fantasy's New Wave.

Corwin's quote from The Guns of Avalon seems fitting, actually:

"In the mirrors of the many judgements, my hands are the color of blood. I am part of the evil that exists in the world and in Shadow. I sometimes fancy myself an evil that exists to oppose other evils. …and on that Great Day of which prophets speak but in which they do not truly believe, on that day when the world is completely cleansed of evil, then I, too, will go down into darkness, swallowing curses. Perhaps sooner than that, I now judge. But whatever…Until that time, I shall not wash my hands nor let them hang useless."

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

No one. I just can't with him. He can get it if he wants it (honestly his new EN VA choice is utterly unfair), but so far I haven't seen anything that makes me go "ship it." Likely cuz there are so few damn characters in the age range, let alone he'd have such chemistry with, especially while focused on other things.

There are some darn good wolships for Gaius out there, though.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

He definitely has more mentor/parental energy to me (even if he's bad at it; seriously, stop letting this man near children and impressionable young adults).

I want more of him and Valdeulin being Vitriolic Best Buds with that "I'll likely kill you in the morning" "Sure, see you then" flavor being a common part of it.

Also I enjoy the partnership with our Grumpy Jumpy Estinien, and wanted more wacky buddy cop adventures in Garlemald while they frown and scowl through everything.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

He's a fascinating and interesting character just as worthy of popularity, love, redemption, growth, whatever as any other character depending on story direction, especially other villains people enjoy, like the Heaven's Ward, Ascians, Galvus family, etc.

I also recall a lot of people adoring Gaius as a villain, and even a lot of really annoying "Gaius was right!!" from both edgelords and fasch types.

It's really interesting how much of all that has been affected by his taking his helmet off. Can't. Imagine. Why.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

After seeing his grieved tantrum over Rhitahtyn's death, we really should have seen a reaction to Livia's. He should have mentioned her in all his monologuing at Cid and WoL, something, about his foster daughter and how we're the ones who had to kill her. Like. Hello?!

I feel like I can see what they wanted to do in Werlyt, but were hamstrung by it being optional side content so it can't matter too much while also should have meaning and also cliche mecha anime and having a lot of things happen offscreen/away from characters...

ANYWAY, I hope he has story options in 6.0 and an arc that makes sense and that he can participate in, instead of watching kids arbitrarily dying around him with no options for him (or us!) to actually do anything about it.

Ohooooo, I was waiting for something like this!!! Thank you, Vee :) I’ll do my best to explain <333

Starting off with Yazoo:

First impression: Calm, level-headed, perhaps a bit shy. What surprised me the first time watching was how deep his voice was. He’s got this grace about him that leaves you simply... staring. I interpreted the introductory scene where Loz nearly cries and Yaz tells him not to as comforting-- Which I think is what a good chunk of Rem fans see it as? Overall, pretty, but not much else.

Impression now: I think he’s fucking ruthless under that dainty face, if you ask me. Honestly, it’d be right in line with Sephiroth. I think out of the both of his brothers, he gets along better with Kadaj, but if he wasn’t around, I doubt Yazoo would have nearly enough investment in their quest. He comes across as apathetic and uncompassionate, perhaps even a little haughty. I feel like his relationship with Loz is tolerable at best, and downright acidic at worst. With Loz being the way he is, I wouldn’t be surprised if Yazoo and Kadaj had to keep an eye on him at all times, just in case. I feel, though, at the end of the day Yazoo does care about his brothers, and would risk his life for them. It’s in his bones, and he can’t help it, whether he likes it or not. Still very pretty though, lmao.

Favourite moment: Been forever sinced I watched Advent Children, and, unfortunately, Yazoo my beloved doesn’t get many scenes. I’ll have to go with the introductory scene, as it gives us an idea of who they are and what their dynamic is like right off the bat.

Idea for a story: I feel like any story with Yazoo inevitably ends up involving Loz, so I’ll make a joint bullet-point for them at the end of the post <3

Unpopular opinion: Mmm, probably the more apathetic, if not downright spiteful characterisation. If my friend @vesaniens’s experience is to be believed, then at least Back In Her Day it was far more common for Yazoo and Loz to be buddy-buddy while Kadaj goes off and does his own thing. I can see the appeal in that dynamic, and understand where it comes from. There’s alot of ways you can interpret ‘don’t cry, Loz,‘ and as it is the introductory scene, however you do sets down the foundation for all that follows.

Favourite relationship: The Remnants aren’t characters I can find preferable ships for in-canon, so romantic is off the table here. I will say, though, a dynamic where Genesis and Yazoo are mentor and mentee would be downright tooth-rotting. Genesis preening him, taking him out to nice places, showing him fine literature-- I love it! I don’t see much talk about how the Remnants would relate to Gen and Geal, and I think that’s a damn shame. Plus, Yazoo can then quietly rub it in either of his brothers’ faces whenever he gets annoyed with them. To pick another, though, definitely him and Loz-- Especially if it is strained. It’s very clear they’re meant to contrast each other. Yazoo is lithe, subtle and venemous; Loz is big, loud and sensitive. I personally have a huge soft spot for fics where they recouncile their differences and learn to truly love each other.

Favourite headcanon: Honestly, I feel like I need to make a general headcanon post for the Rems as a whole. They’re all inherently tied, so a change to one of them usually affects the other two. To touch up on one from a theory I read about a year ago now(God, has it been that long?), I like the idea that the Remnants got a little bit of Genesis and Angeal mixed in. They’re like 90% Seph, give or take, but the other 10%~? Now that’s where the fun begins baby!!! In this case, the donor would be Genesis, and Yazoo would’ve gotten the more passive-aggressive, snarky, preening aspects of his character. The resentment and feelings of inferiority towards Sephiroth end up getting mixed into Kadaj, however I don’t want to elaborate on this too long lest I go off-topic. On a more crack-heavy note, I feel like if you waved a laser-pointer in front of him, he’d be transfixed. He’s too dignified to actually leap at it... But he likes watching :)

Now, as for Loz:

First impression: Big phuckign himbo, idiotte of a man. Probably can’t even buckle his own boots. Playtime??? Bitch NO, it’s not playtime! WHY ARE YOU CRYING??? But yeah, my initial view fell alot more in line with what I think is the most common interpretation of him. His excecution leans heavily to Big Dumb Idiot Man Who Cries When He Sees A Duckling.

Impression now: Baby. Poor fucking baby. Honestly, that could be said for all the Remnants, but I don’t think Loz’s struggle is discussed nearly enough. I’ve talked about this before, but, for me, it’s painfully clear that Loz is essentially a child in a grown man’s body. Writer Kazushige Nojima has Loz’s lines about playing during his fight with Tifa were based off his own son, and has described him as “missing a little something upstairs” --And looking at him through that lens, things become alot more disturbing. He’s Sephiroth’s love for Jenova; a doting, yearning, infantilising love. There’s an innocence to Loz, something sweet, something light and airy-- And to have him fight, have him torture, have him kill... just, man. This jarring dichotomy between such hulking, brutal strength, this bringer of destruction, and this kid who wants his mother. Is he aware? Does he truly understand the weight of his actions? Can he? Most of this, admittedly, is a bit of a stretch, but I love this doof alot jhdhjfdjhs can you blame me?

Favourite moment: Oh, definitely the crying scene-- You must be real tired of hearing that again. Though, in Loz’s case, it sets up his sensitivity, and his dynamic with his brothers-- Yazoo in particular.

Idea for a story: Same answer as Yaz.

Unpopular opinion: I think my more infantile view of Loz as a whole is semi-unpopular? Fandom seems pretty split on whether he’s just a himbo or actual babyman. Again, hard to tell, what with most Rem content and discussion being several years old and tricky to find. I’d be curious to have a discussion on this! But yeah, if we’re talking about the wider fanbase, I think my intense appreciation of him is definitely unusual. Alot of OG fans see the Rems as tropey villains, and while I will argue that it makes sense considering they’re fragments of a bigger, badder, more complex villain, I don’t think Loz is nearly as shallow as most would have you believe.

Favourite relationship: As discussed with Yazoo, there aren’t any canon characters I consistently ship the Remnants with -- Especially not for Loz, in particular when viewing him through that youthful lens -- Though as with everything, I am flexible :) On the platonic side... Honestly, I think Loz would just be a big softie who hangs around everyone. If Angeal was baking, Loz would definitely chip in to help, though he might cause more trouble than if he stayed aside. I think he’d try and reach out to Sephiroth, only for his affections to be rejected because the latter is Bad With Emotions and is torn between on whether the Remnants are a nuisance he hands off to his old friends or his children who he wants to scoop up and carry off into the vast cosmos.

Favourite headcanon: Loz eats alot of shit he isn’t meant to. Like, shit that would kill twenty grown men. At least once he has mistaken stinging nettle for mint, and spent the next two or three days scraping his tongue constantly. Would chase a ball if thrown, no questions asked; try playing frisbee with this dude, and you’ll end up on the other side of town by the end of it. If you try and pick him up, he just slumps, like a big, brawny ragdoll cat-- Probably purrs like one, too. Definitely appreciates a good scratch behind the ear :)

There’s like... probably mountains more, but this is what I’ve been able to coax out after a day of writing this on and off. Again, thank you so much for asking!! I’ve been meaning to ramble about the Remnants for ages now, but didn’t know how to go about it.

Aight, as promised:

Story idea: This is one I’ve had on my mind for years now. I haven’t gotten around to it, as it’d require greater familiarity with FFVII’s world as a whole, but the premise is that Yazoo and Loz escape far out into the countryside, and end up in a village. Yazoo soon falls ill, and Loz has to provide a living working for a local farmer. Their dynamic is initially strained, and without Kadaj to hold them together, they nearly end up splitting before arrival. As time passes, and as they grow closer to the community, Yazoo’s grumbles fade into concerned murmers. Slowly, he begins to trust Loz more, and Loz learns to take more responsibility. But as their friendship blossoms, Yazoo’s body withers. Bedbound, he wonders how Loz would fare without him, if he could make it. I imagine this ends up leading to Loz deliberately blowing their cover to get needed medical help from WRO, turning themselves in during the process.

Again, there’s probably more to it, but to be honest even I don’t know. That’s the great thing about creativity :) You never know where you end up!

heyyy what did you think of the latest aot episode??

obviously a spoiler warning for episode 78 if you haven't gotten to watch it yet!

unfortunately aot has always been spoiled for me. i was pretty adamant to my boyfriend that it wasn't something i'd be interested in way back when, so he always talked to me after new manga chapters came out. so it wasn't a surprise :( on the other hand, he told me that the rumbling started when eren got shot. so i have no idea whats going on with the whole zeke betrayal thing. that shook the hell out of me.

i wouldn't necessarily dub myself a yeagerist or claim to support any of the ideologies currently present in the show, but i do love eren with all my heart. obviously, i want him to succeed; when it comes to a question of if his success is at the expense of other characters i love, i'm not really sure where i fall. this episode is the furthest i've had spoiled for me, so i suppose i'll find out eventually. or perhaps i'll stay neutral. i'm a pretty big fan of rooting for anybody that i find attractive. just because you understand the complexities of a show doesn't mean you have to worry yourself with them. sometimes we can just be city girls.

my typical neutrality aside, i'll never forgive gabi for killing sasha. yes, i understand the nuance. yes, i understand that she's a brainwashed child. yes, i understand it's a fucked up take to hate her. no, i won't change my mind. now that she's decapitated my man, i'm even more averse towards her. and even still i loved her redemption scene in the last episode so much. it's a shame she's such a good marksman; we might have been able to be buddies if not.

seeing the scouts fighting in shiganshina again was everything. it made me want to go back and rewatch season 3. mikasa looked so good in this episode. everyone did, tbh. even porco had a momentary glow up. unpopular opinion: zeke is sexy as fuck. if you simp for reiner and not zeke, you're lying to yourself. open your eyes.

the colt/falco scene was so fucking sad. i don't have nearly the same emotional connection to the marleyans as i do the og cast, but it tugged pretty hard on the old heart strings.

then suddenly my baby daddy is headless, my husband is like half of a body still somehow alive with hange somewhere, and my boyfriend is all busted up and laid out like he just finished a round with mike tyson. if i existed in the aot universe, i would be preeeeeeetty fucking pissed.

all in all, i loved the new episode. the pacing was peak, the animation in the paths was beautiful, and i can't wait to see where this all goes. i'm not an anime critic by any means, but that's just my two cents. what did you guys think?

First impression: i, like a lot of people who get into the podcast without knowing a great deal about it, was expecting at most an ambiguously bisexual angst machine with a closely-guarded heart of gold. juno being an explicitly bisexual genderqueer angst machine is perhaps the most pleasant surprise of my life. the angst machine heart of gold characters were kind of my type at the time, so i loved him right away

Impression now: every time i think about juno’s arc from depressed mess held together by bad coping mechanisms, safety pins, and a few good strong puns into someone who can talk about his feelings, feel comfortable about being happy, and recognise when he needs to change, i want to cry about it a little bit. the depth of my love for juno steel has only grown along with him

Favourite moment: juno has a lot of great one-liners and i’m still a big fan of the “on the other hand i wasn’t wearing a watch” bit and who can forget such classics as juno finally deciding to stop moping over nureyev and move on only for him to open the door to his apartment and find nureyev sitting in the dark dramatically, but honestly nothing will ever hit me harder than his sudden, pissed-off declaration of “i can’t die yet, i still have shit to do!” in promised land. god.

Idea for a story: oh i have so many and i want to write most of them so no spoilers, but juno accidentally kidnaps a baby during a carte blanche heist and shenanigans ensue

Unpopular opinion: obviously we all know he’s dummy thicc but i feel like a lot of people forget he’s an actual genius, like the stuff he notices and how he strings it together is sometimes so obscure and he’s almost always right. oh, also juno is not skinny and i will not be taking criticism on that

Favourite relationship: this is so tough because every dynamic is so good, but i think it has to be juno and rita. those two are so good! the best best friends in the world!! i’m really a sucker for any dynamic that’s ridiculously in-sync so i loved these two as soon as juno saw rita’s notes in prince of mars and went “makes perfect sense to me” (which it probably didn’t, because rita, but he trusted that she knew what she was doing which is the important part)

Favourite headcanon: this isn’t really a headcanon but i still think about how juno is (was?) deathly afraid of heights but when he heard rex glass coming he still attempted to climb out of the window. either his aversion to working with dark matters/other people in general was so strong is overrided his fear, or his office was actually on the ground floor. not sure which of these is funnier.

NUREYEV

First impression: we’ve all seen the memes about nureyev knowing juno steel for one (1) day and deciding to Risk It All by leaving him with his name, look at this Hopeless Romantic, this utter DISASTER of a homosexual. the fact the very next time we hear from nureyev (at least directly) he’s patiently waiting in juno’s dark apartment to surprise him with a heist definitely supports this image.

Impression now: even after literally being inside peter’s head, i feel like we didn’t get a real sense of who he is until man in glass, where we find out he aggressively compartmentalises everything that causes him stress. he’s also distinctly someone who’s had his heart broken before, i think, which makes those first appearances of his very strange. but it does remind me of what juno says about diamond, and how he decided to provide the trust first and wait for the trustworthiness to grow in (only to get severely hurt), and i think that’s exactly what nureyev did. i am also... very uneasy with how suspicious he’s behaving this season because obviously i want to believe he’ll sort it all out and not betray the crew but... oof

Favourite moment: the beginning of what lies beyond pt1 where he’s affectionately bullying juno into taking care of himself? cleared my crops watered my skin etc etc etc

Idea for a story: i’d love to hear more about his past as a young thief idolising buddy and vespa (i can’t actually remember if that’s canon or fanon but anyway i wanna read it!)

Unpopular opinion: i think people often cling to an image of him that more resembles his first impressions in season 1 instead of seeing the depth that we’ve been given about his character in season 3

Favourite relationship: him and juno but honestly it’s a close call between them and his budding friendship with rita. even though she learned it by accident, his name is still a point of intimacy and it’s one less secret to keep around her which has to be a weight off his shoulders, at least a little? they seem like they could be really good friends once ultrabots is out of the way. juno steel love (and also bullying) zone activates whenever they’re together

Favourite headcanon: i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again - nureyev has never done a household chore in his goddamn life. he doesn’t know the water needs to be hot when you wash dishes.

RITA

First impression: honestly i’m not sure? i don’t remember having a big awareness of her in murderous mask but i remember loving her “note-taking” in prince of mars, i thought she sounded really fun and cute

Impression now: rita is really fun and cute, she’s also an extremely hardworking and dedicated woman who had the guts to throw in with a detective fired from the force and then invest all of her time and money into helping him help people.

Favourite moment: Rita Gets A Knife. enough said

Idea for a story: i don’t know honestly! i really struggle to write rita because her thought processes are so wild and i don’t think any story i could come up with would match mega ultrabots of cyberjustice.

Unpopular opinion: this shouldn’t be unpopular because juno steel himself shares this opinion but all future-jupeter headcanons are incomplete without rita also being a huge part of their lives

Favourite relationship: rita + franny 4ever obviously.. jk it’s juno & rita have you heard rita minute 3 they’re too adorable for this world. im still Soft over their conversation at the end of soul of the people when he said he couldn’t stay in hyperion anymore but he wouldn’t leave with the carte blanche if rita wasn’t coming because he was done leaving her behind, and she threw out all her hesitations on the spot and said call the big guy. speaking of, rita & jet are a close second. instant best friends i love them.

Favourite headcanon: i think this is basically canon now but rita being literally half the height of jet is so good

JET

First impression: “haha lorge funny man puts juno in the trash”

Impression now: jet sikuliaq is one of the dearest characters to me out of anything ever. he is a huge, menacing, polite, kind, sincere man who i would very much like to give me a hug. he’s the best aro ace in outer space and while being generally very levelheaded and straightforward, also takes every opportunity to fuck with juno because it’s very easy and very hilarious to him personally. he is everything my autistic acearo ass needed and i’m so glad to have him

Favourite moment: all of them every single one. him putting juno in the trash is of course a classic and every moment jet chooses to be funny makes my heart happy, but also every piece of genuine advice he gives. i’m a particular fan though of buddy recounting her years in the lighthouse and him saying he became concerned when she didn’t come downstairs at the usual time. “you took the door off its hinges.” “i was deeply concerned.” king of understatement

Idea for a story: again no spoilers for you but..... tools of rust time loop au

Unpopular opinion: this isn’t “unpopular” as much as it is unknown but jet is buddy’s queerplatonic partner and i will keep saying it until everyone believes it

Favourite relationship: jet and buddy,,, just everything about them. the way he suspects when she’s lying, the way she makes tea for him when she expects him to drop by. the fact he comes to check on her when she is 41 seconds late to the family meeting because it’s unlike her to be late and the last time she was late for something her brain was turning to radiation soup. but most especially the way she snaps at him to stay out of her business and he said he could not because he made her promise eight years ago to never stay out of the business of her health, no matter how many times she asked. they r literally in a qpr

Favourite headcanon: i don’t think this is true but i still think it would be funny if the ruby-7 used to be painted red but when jet got it he had it painted green because he Just Really Likes Green (as evidenced by his hovercycle). it’s very funny to me.

BUDDY

First impression: it’s been a minute since i relistened to time gone by but i’m pretty sure the first thing she ever says in the podcast is sliding up to depressed accidental whiskey thief juno and say “that’ll be ten million creds,” scaring the shit out of him, so needless to say i was in love instantly.

Impression now: my love for buddy aurinko has only grown and if it sounds like i already said that in this post it’s because i did about juno and it’s appropriate because the parallels are astounding. the heart of it all gave us such depth to buddy’s internal monologue and why she always sounds like she knows exactly what to say and what that’s like and honestly will i ever be over the heart of it all as an episode? unlikely. i think i’m gonna have a little piece of it in MY heart forever.

Favourite moment: everything she’s ever said is iconic as hell i especially like “in an impressive fit of hubris i’ve decided not to prepare my words for this vow” which made me laugh out loud but once again i must give it up for her iconic “I WANT TO LIVE” moment. honourable mentions to her taking rita out for ice cream and giving juno shooting lessons while she’s in her actual wedding gown. i love her

Idea for a story: buddy and vespa as sun/moon dieties.... that’s all

Unpopular opinion: stop drawing her with a fancy high-tech eye like the theia!! it canonically looks like garbage and it’s described in detail, please, i’m dying, also don’t minimise her scars you bastards

Favourite relationship: buddy and vespa invented romantic love and the entire carte blanche crew’s relationship to her is great but you know by now i’m a slut for buddy & jet out-of-this-world queerplatonic partners. the way she checks in on him during tools of rust to make sure he’s not relapsing and he comes to find her when she is 41 seconds late in the heart of it all to make sure she’s not having a heart problem!! it’s the trust,, the devotion,, the mortifying ordeal of being known

Favourite headcanon: she can sing. absolutely tears it up at karaoke. i’m right

VESPA

First impression: knife lesbian goes STAB. she will heal your wounds but she will be threatening to give you more the whole time

Impression now: she is extremely strong, heart-rendingly tender, and despite being in the older half of the carte blanche crew somehow has unmistakable little sister energy which makes her downright hilarious. i’m so glad she got to marry buddy and they’re official space wives now they’re so good for each other

Favourite moment: both from shadows in the ship, either “GUN!!” “KNIFE?!” (iconic) or when she clocks the dark matters drone pretending to be juno because it called her crazy and juno wouldn’t call her crazy. i’m always a sucker for “shapeshifter fails to fool mark because they Know Each Other Too Well” and it was just *chefs kiss* so good

Idea for a story: i really want to write something about when she was first staying at the lighthouse with buddy post-reunion, and getting to know jet and stuff. i think it would be cute

Unpopular opinion: i know vespa doesn’t canonically have lots of scarring but people who don’t draw her with scarring? cowards.

Favourite relationship: once again, although buddy and vespa invented romantic love, i just love the dynamic between vespa and juno so much. they’ve come so far with each other and their weird sibling dynamic gives me life. at the end of what lies beyond when juno says “we’re not gonna kill her, vespa” and instead of sounding full of Rage and Suspicion she’s like “whyyy notttt?” and he’s like “because i said so!” and that’s just good enough for her even if she’s a bit grumpy about it. i love it.

Tenya first!

First impression: “does everyone have to be mean to izuku??? is this some kind of law???” basically i hated him. Impression now: “precious and treasured friend, izuku’s bestie, autism buddy, my darling child” basically i love him. Favorite moment: “are you saying i’m not even a threat to you?!” tenya, child, that is an adult serial killer and you are fifteen / BUT ALSO “we’re friends right?” when he turns izuku’s words back on him during the overhaul arc because he owes a friendship debt. Idea for a story: an exploration of what i was like for him to grow engines. did that happen in the womb? obviously mom anticipated a machine quirk. what did she eat to facilitate that? or perhaps he was normal until four and then developed engines. did he start eating coins to get enough metal? i’m very curious about how a human body ingests enough metal to grow an engine. Unpopular opinion: his situation with his brother is actually really sad. they were born 15 years apart. tensei is old enough to be tenya’s father, if you assume some unfortunate circumstances. they didn’t really get to be siblings, and tenya clearly hero worshipped his brother so tensei was more like a caregiver than a companion. and then tensei, having very little real relationship with tenya, just dropped his whole legacy on tenya’s shoulders. with no thought for how that might effect tenya or what he might do as a result. like their whole relationship screams dysfunction to me. Favorite relationship: HOSU TRIO!! Favorite headcanon: boyo is very demi but doesn’t know what asexuality is until he’s like 20 and has never had a crush and is starting to feel deficient, and then izuku comes in with like “you know there’s a word for that” and tenya is like “YOU HAVE SAVED ME AGAIN MIDORIYA!” and then hug ochako time!

First impression: “she’s gonna be izuku’s love interest isn’t she?” unfortunately, i called it. Impression now: i understand she’s the Main Girl and everything, but she’s been relegated to “izuku’s love interest” so much that it’s hard to get invested in her story. i love her and want her to succeed and be GIVEN HER OWN DAMN PLOT like jfc bakugou’s hanger-on got more of a subplot than she did, i’m begging you to do right by this girl horikoshi. until then whenever she’s on screen i feel sad at the waste. Favorite moment: when she tore up her shirt to splint izuku’s arms. she was the only person there who was like “can we STOP and do some first aid please?” Idea for a story: ok so you know how there’s this standard plot where a “bad boy” falls for the “class idol” or whatever? that, but with ochako and momo. ochako has like mediocre grades and is poor, and sees this perfect, rich, smart girl who’s so far above her and can’t help but be one part jealous to two parts smitten. she sees how mineta and some of the other boys are and so she takes it upon herself to use her rougher reputation to defend momo, but oops now momo is kinda smitten with her too. Unpopular opinion: APPARENTLY this is unpopular due to bakugou’s popularity but SHE SHOULD HAVE FUCKING WON AT THE SPORTS FEST! BAKUGOU BEATING HER WAS A COMPLETE ASS-PULL, PLOT ARMOR AND NOTHING MORE! SHE SHOULD HAVE WON! Favorite relationship: i love her and tsu, either platonic or romantic Favorite headcanon: she sometimes activates her quirk on herself in her sleep and goes floating out the window. aizawa has to lasso her back.

i’ve been responding to the prompts so slowly bc school but here’s the one for joe that i didn’t put in the previous ask

Joe

Why I Like Him-

Honestly, this shouldn’t even be a question at this point, he’s hands down my favorite character. I adore the dynamic that he has with Sara, I adore his cheerful and peppy personality, and I adore the fact that he still undergoes realistic questioning of his morals despite being such a kind and generally “good person.” And, as I’ve stated many times before, I think that his death came at the perfect time to impact Sara’s development while also letting him go through a character arc and become a significant enough character for his death to hurt. I,,, I love him so much dhfbhdfbd

Why I Don’t-

There isn’t really a lot here; like I’ve said, he’s just generally a really good character! If I had to pick something, though, I’d say that there are a lot of unresolved suspicions surrounding him from the get-go and I don’t like that they haven’t been resolved yet. Considering how cheerful and trusting he is otherwise, he’s oddly suspicious of Keiji and the others right from the beginning, and is the first to suggest the possibility of a traitor- rather uncharacteristic for what we know of him. Was it just part of his character arc to make him dying due to the Sacrifice card even more sympathetic, or is there more to him? I, personally, really want the “Mr. Policeman is Joe’s dad” theory to be true, so I’m hoping that if we get that reveal, his initial suspicions will tie into that. I’ll be sort of disappointed if they continue to go unresolved.

Favorite Scene-

Honestly, I’ve always adored the scene where Joe and Sara walk home together. In only around 5 minutes, Nankidai is able to characterize them both perfectly (especially Joe), to portray them as close friends who enjoy teasing each other, and to establish that they’re still good friends even though Joe is dating Ryoko. Especially when you go back and play through the game without the initial worry of whether Joe is going to betray you, it’s easy to realize how genuinely sweet and well-written that scene is. I love it a lot :))

Favorite Line-

Because I’m very shitty at remembering lines, I’ll go with the classic one: “I love ya, Sara! You’re my best friend!” I also thought his AI’s line of “I’ll always follow you- just like a dog!” is a pretty funny one.

Favorite Outfit-

I probably won’t include this with everyone else’s but I just want to take a minute to appreciate Joe’s gaudy-ass outfit. He has style. Period. Those earrings? That hairclip? Absolutely iconic, there’s a reason Sara cries every time she sees them after 1-2.

OTP-

LMAO are you kidding me?? Joesara all the way. I also like the concept of Ryojoesara, but I just love their dynamic in-game and how close they are to each other, romantic or platonic. And… I just honestly adore the idea of the two of them together! I love the friends to lovers trope, and their personalities complement each other so well! They’re very sweet.

Brotp-

For this, I’d have to choose between either Gin or Shin. Joe leaning into the “big bro Joe” assignment is so precious, and I’ve always been a sucker for their little exchange where Gin promises to kick his ass in Mario Kart or something. I think he’d make a great big brother to Gin; they could bond over their love of dogs :) I’ve also seen a lot of Nankidai’s sketches of Joe and Shin together, and honestly I think they’d make for great friends- Joe could help pull Shin out of his “loner” persona and they could be buddies! If only </3

Headcanon-

Like I’ve said, I’m really bad at coming up with specific headcanons, but… I hc Joe as bi, he just gives off those vibes. He also probably has Tiktok and tried to get Sara and Ryoko to do Tiktok dances with him for awhile before giving up. Also!! He probably still sleeps with at least one stuffed animal (a stuffed dog would be very on-brand for him) but is self-conscious as hell about it and has only told Sara.

Unpopular Opinion-

This seems to be a pretty unpopular opinion because of how much people love to talk about it, but I really dislike the Mastermind Joe theory. I’ve talked about this before, but I think it’s very implausible; Nankidai’s writing is centric around character development, not the shock value of plot twists. Sacrificing all of Sara’s development throughout Chapter 2 (which consisted of her reacting realistically to her grief and was handled very well imo) would be so counterproductive and it would make the game feel so much cheaper. Perhaps Joe’s AI might be weaponized against her again or it might make future appearances, but I doubt the living Joe will turn out to be evil, much less a conspirator or even mastermind with ASUNARO. It just wouldn’t make sense, and it would honestly ruin his character.

A Wish-

I’ve already mentioned that I want the “Mr. Policeman is Joe’s Dad” theory to be true, so I’m gonna say that I really want my theory about the AI to come true as well. I really want Sara to end up going home with Joe’s AI if she survives, and I want the emotional distress of seeing the fake version of her dead best friend to be evident. Give me that angst, PLEASE </3
