Climbed a tree to get this photo of an Australian goanna. Luckily with a long lens, it’s easy to get near enough for a decent photo without disturbing the creature you’re admiring — not even sure he/she knew I was there. I think this is a very young Perentie goanna (Varanus giganteus), the largest goanna native to Australia. I can’t be super sure.

@perentie said: i just dont think your niche has found you yet; youve got nice art worth the follow
@watermanceraiko said: hmm based on your posting times, i think you should schedule post at 12AM based on my experience i get the most engagement at those hours. Your art is great and varied theres no denying that trust me but if youre going for engagement you could maybe try and follow a theme/fandom? Altho that does feel like a compromise but just my two cents. I think I followed you from your animations way back before i stopped tumblr. Sorry for the block of text but yeah :3
Tumblr media
thank u guys!!! i’ll defo post earlier then, did feel like my posting times were on the later side... (if u mean 12am UK time. its around 2-3am here when i post). also whaatt which animations?? i did some very short ones before uni if thats how “way back” u mean :o (i swear i avoided animation as much as possible whilst in an animation course xD)
sticking to a theme is impossible for me HAHA as u said my art is varied, but i think drawing for fandoms links with my niche finding me tbh, fanart always increases my visibility/engagement (and i find many great artists thru fanart) and i genuinely enjoy drawing fanart so i’ll probs just do that 🥺 its just that honestly i think education has always been a huge stressor for me and often held me back with my art and ive studied in creative arts subjects for the last 6 years 💀 i feel so much pressure and it makes me avoid both school and personal art @__@
maybe once i’ll be out of uni (this week!) i’ll draw & post more often :333 (unless the working adult world will kick my ass EVEN MORE)

Greetings bocaditos! Trying to sneak into the dorm? How bold! But don't worry, I won't let you get caught. You'll be safe if you come with me to my room..
Seriously don't go in his room
Coffin and Candy icons commissioned by @thoselethalarts !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🦎 Name: Sergio "Gio" Perentie the newest member of @juhnglfangdorm !
🦎 Twisted from Joanna the Goanna from The Rescuers: Down Under
🦎 Nicknames: Sanshōo-chan (Salamander); Monsieur Chaussettes
🦎 Species: Monitor Beastman
🦎 Age: 19
🦎 Birthday: October 10
🦎 Height: 175 cm (5'9")
🦎 Class: 2-B No. 20
🦎 Club: Track Club
🦎 Best Subject: Animal Languages
🦎 Hobby: Collecting mismatched socks
🦎 Homeland: Sunset Savannah
🦎 Pet Peeves: Air-conditioned buildings
🦎 Favorite Food: Raw Eggs
🦎 Least Favorite Food: Jawbreakers
🦎 Unique Magic: Scale the Summit - this allows the user to magically adapt and climb anything, regardless of surface type (cliffs, buildings, walls) for a short period of time. There is no actual time limit to use this spell, but the longer the caster uses it, the more blot that forms.
Bio: Sergio "Gio" Perentie is a Monitor Beastman, an extremely rare beast species that was nearly on the verge of extinction until his family stepped in. Monitor beastfolk were hunted and captured for forced breeding due to the many colorful combinations of their prized tails that were used for coveted meat and ingredients for potion making, in particular lethal poisons. Gio's ancestors created a partnership with the high-ranking hunter & trapper families to control the rate of hunting against their species, in exchange for their eggs.
Gio has two older sisters and lives with his parents. Female monitor beastfolk are considered highly valuable and are immediately married off to high ranking hunters and/or nobles who want to increase their statuses due to their breeding compatibility. Gio's father is a human from a prestigious family and his mother is a monitor beast woman. Because male monitor beastfolk cannot breed and make eggs, they normally stay with their families or are advised to be married into a high ranking family to be protected.
Gio was originally supposed to marry into one of the Sunset Savannah's top hunting family, only for the setup to end very badly. His ex boyfriend was incredibly abusive, and Gio had ended it to return to his family. Even though his family members aren't close (as are most reptile beast folk) they secured his protection from his ex boyfriend's family by sending him to Night Raven College.
Because of his reptile characteristics, Gio was unable to be sorted into the regular dorms by the Dark Mirror. He is physically unable to be in any air-conditioned buildings or anywhere the temperature gets cold. His family had given a substantial amount of money to the Headmage, and Crowley saw fit to place him in the Juhnglfang dorm.
Personality: Gio is a mischievous, flirtatious guy who loves being praised. He normally keeps to himself, but he has no issue interacting with and meeting new people. He is good friends with Jayesh due to his kind and fun demeanor and for throwing the best parties. Although he gets along fairly well with his dormmates, he enjoys teasing Vipin since they both share reptile characteristics and relate to each other in that way. Even though Vipin nags Gio all the time, he does look out for him when he can. Gio will not admit it, but he has great respect for Vipin; he just has an incredibly annoying way of showing it.
Gio also has a tendency to seduce others with his good looks and eventually gets into a relationship (even though he denies it) with Aarav (who belongs to @atwstedstory), a Scarabia student that Gio becomes infatuated with. He treats him with respect and doesn't cater to Gio's antics and knows how to put him in his place, a characteristic that Gio respects in other people.
Trivia
🦎 Gio's pronouns are he/him and he is gay!
🦎 Gio HATES being called by his first name and goes out of his way to make sure no one calls him that. The only person who calls him Sergio is Vipin, and that's because he does it to command respect so Gio doesn't get into trouble and make the dorm look bad.
🦎 His name is pronounced "hee-oh"
🦎 Gio is physically unable to be anywhere that's cold, so he is always seen wearing winter clothing when he's outside the dorm. His favorite things to wear are mismatched fuzzy socks because they're vibrant and keep him warm!
🦎 Gio will also wear a mask when in a crowded public area due to his incredible sense of smell, and the fact that the scents around him overwhelm him at times.
🦎 Under NO circumstance is anyone allowed to touch his tail unless you want your face slashed off.
🦎 Gio has lots of piercings and is always looking to get more!
🦎 Gio is not big on fighting and tries to avoid it when possible, but he enjoys stalking the Leech twins, in particular Floyd. Floyd knows how to have the most fun~ and Gio kinda wants to eat them
🦎 Monitor beastfolk are INCREDIBLY athletic, and Gio loves to run so he joined the track club!
🦎 Although he's not officially part of the Mountain Lovers Club, Jade allows Gio to help with some activities from time to time because he tricked Gio into thinking there would be active rock-climbing. Gio still hasn't figured it out and Jade keeps getting free labor.
🦎 Vipin had to include mandatory dorm room checks because Gio kept piles of rotting meat in his room to eat later. The more decayed the meat was, the better the smell is to him.

I just wanna say.
Tumblr media
I don't know who did the dialogue for the comics but they're pretty good at Intuitively Aussie Things (outside of spelling "cark it" wrong).
The amount of times I've hauled arse while chanting "bugger" under my breath is too goddamn many. I once cleared a click on foot with a 20kg bluey on my back and a rifle in my arms because a VERY angry pig was chasing me (when I got back to Matilda he tried his damnedest to pop one of my tyres but that's beside the point). Screaming "BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER-" while being chased by the wildlife is just part of the bushman experience. I don't care if it's outrunning magpies, outrunning pigs, outrunning a bushfire, outrunning a tornado, outrunning hail big enough to knock you out, outrunning a perentie, staring down dingos, waking up to a venomous snake in your swag, seeing a shark while swimming at a beach, blowing a tyre on a rough bit of track, or wading in waist-deep water and seeing the bubbles of a crocodile submerging a few metres away. If you live in the bush you will chant "bugger" like a prayer at some point in your life.
On that note, if you're ever somewhere and you see an Aussie running away from something while screaming "BUGGER" it's a good idea to trust his gut and follow him because 9/10 times whatever's chasing him will end up chasing you instead. If he's running he's got reason.

Gecko Sniper is very curious, don't mind him
Tumblr media
some reptile Snipers (technically the far left one isn't + 3rd reptile was left out). From left to right:
Snipey: The Cloth Thief. Sleeps on a pile of clothes in a cavern. Gets himself into trouble whenever he steals something. Could run on his fours.
Lizard Sniper: Mysterious prankster. Can move on his fours very fast. More on this post.
Gecko Sniper: Curious & Timid. Slightest of movements make him flinch away. If he gets comfortable enough with you, he can come up closer and inspect. Flees when attacked, can try to bite right before running off on his fours. Sometimes stands in a way like he is about to climb up a tree. Neck prone to crane forward. Hunch.
Monitor (Perentie) Sniper: Super Chill. Laid-back pose with a hunch. 'Emotionless face'. May sleep with his body twisted in odd ways. Calm movements. Defends himself after being attacked (slow reaction to pain?).
2nd Gecko Sniper(Spotty/Crocogecko): Swift & Wary. Has scaly skin spotted with white and grey colors, and a few pointy spikes. Forked tongue that vibrates when feeling uncomfortable. Stiff posture, especially when around strangers. Easily irritable. Won't hesitate attacking/snapping when threatened by something that steps too close. (May/may not have a tail) (the lesser thorn-tailed gecko)

A Big Fan of the Inland Taipan
Also known as the western taipan, the small-scaled snake, the fierce snake, or dandarabilla in local Aboriginal languages, the inland taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) is a snake found in the arid regions of central eastern Australia. Specifically, it keeps to dry floodplains, dunes, and black soil plains where vegetation is sparse.
Throughout most of the day, the western taipan shelters in abandoned burrows or deep cracks in the ground, and only emerges early in the morning to hunt. Like all snakes, this species is a carnivore, and O. microlepidotus specializes in mammals; mainly rodents. Despite its narrow diet, the fierce snake is the most venomous reptile in the world, able to strike multiple times in quick succession. A single bite from this species is capable of killing 100 grown humans; however, unlike its coastal cousin, the inland taipan is notoriously shy and will only attack as a last resort. Because of its venomous reputation, adult inland taipans have no predators, though king brown snakes and perentie monitor lizard are known to prey on young.
The western taipan mates late in the winter and early spring, from August to November. This is the only time indivuals will seek each other out, and males have been known to spar when encountering each other. During mating, the male and female can remain intertwined for several hours, and afterwards part ways to seek out other mates. Females will locate abandoned animal burrows to lay a clutch of 11-20 eggs, but she does not remain to care for them. Eggs hatch about 2 months after being laid, and individuals can live for up to 15 years in the wild.
Though thin, weighing only 1-2 kg (2.2-4.4 lbs) the inland taipan is remarkably long, reaching up to 1.8 m (5.9 ft) in length. O. microlepidotus blends in well with its environment, being a dark tan or light greenish brown. This coloration can change depending on the season, becoming lighter or darker according to its surroundings. Along the thicker part of its body, individuals also sport dark scales in diagonal stripes.
Conservation status: The inland taipan is considered Least Concern by the IUCN, and is protected by law in Australia. This species can also be found in zoos and private collections. Primary threats include habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as mortality from cars.
