I can't believe I still have to see posts about how much better ROP would be if Celebrían was the lead vs. Galadriel. As someone who has Tolkien Brainrot, I understand the appeal, I really, really do. As someone who has had to interact with so many people who either do not care about Tolkien Lore but are interested in fantasy television shows or are Jackson film fans first/foremost/only, y'all. Galadriel is a known character and a decent intro to lesser known characters.
Hate to break it to y'all but Celebrían is OBSCURE. I'm pretty confident in saying that if you get outside of Tolkien Fandom online circles, you could tell people that Elrond was married to Galadriel's daughter and the response you would get would be, "oh, I didn't realize that" because it's touched so lightly in the films. Celebrían isn't even MENTIONED by name. Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure if anyone mentions that Galadriel and Arwen are related at all!
My point is the show is meant to appeal to more people than us over here with Tolkien Brainrot!!!!!! I love Celebrían, but Galadriel was an easier sell to the potential of a wider audience as a lead. For a show that needs to go through so much lore very quickly, having Galadriel as the lead because she's 1) female [the overwhelming amount of male characters vs. female characters in the Legendarium is another post], 2) relatively familiar, and 3) has a set characterization to lead toward for an arc vs. her barely-even-mentioned-in-LotR daughter is a no-brainer.

bjyx in the eyes of passer-by is really good. ❤️💚
i’ve been wanting to share this since the weekend but it’s too long and i needed more time. lol. none of this is new but this can be taken as some convincing arguments about the cp and why it could be real. allegedly from non-fans who casually observes the fandom and what we are up to.
Tumblr media
transcript screenshots taken from 泡沫爱恋的晴空 ; I have added commentary and links to some points to better explain. enjoy. 🍵
First of all, I think it is true for the following reasons:
1. Timeline. Since filming in 2018, various fake materials have emerged one after another. We don’t care whether the fake material is genuine or not, but I think the hammer can be connected, which is good. The false information about the incident came out, and then things fell into place, which I think is amazing It’s a strange thing, and some things that happened in 18 and 19 years have now been hammered. Of course you can call it a coincidence if you like.
*** This pertains to the 49 fakes that turned out to mostly be true. Also the fake contributions of their conversations & incidents on set that we all thought weren’t true until the unofficial videos came out. If this was a boy-girl pairing, a single unverified rumor will blow up but with bjyx you have tons and some people are still meh. Lol.
2. Same Style. The two of them share too many styles. First of all, the clothes, from big brands to small ones. Various brands, from clothes to pants to shoes to accessories, there are countless similar styles. The second time was the shooting scene between the staff and some of the staff who had worked together overlapped. Yes, it can be seen from the post-production period that there is also an advertisement for both of them. It was shot in the same place, which is also very magical, in the entertainment industry. It's such a big deal. Do you think there's such a thing as matching clothes, teams and locations? There must be, but I don’t dare to say whether it happens as often as the two of them do. Yes, this is a coincidence.
*** we have an extensive matching clothes collection but i guess the biggest is XZ’s personal style change since he met WYB. Also the overlapping staff/people related work— I talked about an instance of that here.
3. Interaction in the studio. The publicity and distribution of the studios of both parties always meet perfectly. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo have so many endorsements, so it’s amazing that there are so many works and programs that I haven’t encountered before, and the way they talk, the way they edits the video, the fonts they use… Some similarities can be seen in these pictures, which is a coincidence and very disturbing.
*** i don’t think this needs further explanation. A lot of us notice this. even how their projects don’t (very rarely ) coincide.
4. Some inexplicable stuck points and dynamics between the two sides. This is very magical, the 24-hour rule of Boxiao Circle means that no matter what the reason, one party after posting the news, there will always be another news posted by the other party.
5. Some specific examples. One is Wang Yibo’s Himalaya account. The case of Ru Meng and Beiyang corpse recovery, first of all, it is definitely not Wang Yibo himself. Listen, that's for sure. It can also be determined that Xiao Zhan is interested in Rumeng and Beiyang. There is also the easter egg of Wang Yibo and YBO’s video. We won’t say that he’s not like Wang Yibo, but he really looks like Xiao Zhan. The jawbone is simply amazing. Of course you can also say it’s a coincidence.
There is another one who beats me. It’s the one where the rehearsal time is hidden. Behind Wang Yibo is Xiao Zhan’s rehearsal. Above there is only Wang Yibo's name. Everyone scolded Wang Yibo for acting like a big name. He didn’t respond and we didn’t know it was Xiao Zhan until that night. I just want to say that if Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan are fake, the organizer will change the time. this rehearsal time must be negotiated with the artist. Yes, there is no need for him to get involved, he should stay far away at this time. I don't think this is a coincidence.
*** these are very popular CPN so I think alot of us know this. Especially Himalaya/Ximalaya ( I talked about this in detail ; Parts 1-4 / Part 5 ) && WYB hiding XZ’s schedule is very real but both their fans refuse to acknowledge.
6. This is about Bojun Yixiao Rice Circle. Bojun YixiaoCircle and Chen Qing Ling frequently becomes a hotly searched event. Today is April 16, 2022, today the fourth anniversary of Chen Qing Ling was on the hot search, and the names of Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo were also on the list . Let’s not talk about anything else, just take the current situation of Brother Zhan and Yibo. We wouldn’t say it’s particularly popular, but it’s still quite popular. At this time, there is no need for two people to tie up and search together. Behind these two people, they all have professional teams, and now Fanfan is linked to Bojun Yixiao and Aling has become a hot search topic. No matter what fans think, in the eyes of passers-by, if the names of Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo are linked together, the team should be able to remove the host search. The last hot search is equivalent to reminding Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo once again, but judging from the frequency of related hot searches this year, the two parties are together and their team is laissez-faire. This will definitely consolidate CP fans, and I feel that both parties have no intention of wanting to be untied. Judging from their current popularity, I feel like this is a disadvantage. So is it possible that it’s just in case something happens? It will not be made public, but if it is discovered one day, there will be some people who are willing to be with them, at least they feel clear about it and have nothing to hide or cheat them.
To sum up, I think it is true. Of course this is all my personal opinion.
PS: Of course there are many more points, more than this.
**** OP’s sample for hs is 2022, but even this year 2023, they had a couple of hs with their names together and not taken down.
========
Just believe it. Strictly speaking, I am not a CP fan of the two. A more appropriate positioning is for passers-by CP fans, who mainly see the candy of two people is good to drink. When I got high, I calmed down and analyzed objectively.
For a moment, I feel that all kinds of hammers can only point to two possibilities:
1. The two of them are real.
2. The team is still bundled for hype. I don’t quite agree with one party’s deliberate attempts. The other party is interested in this term. After all, if one of the parties is unwilling, we will not let all kinds of public opinions ferment online.
Let’s talk about the first possibility first: true. In fact, there is no need to pass this possibility No need to go into details, there are too many different kinds of hammers. Some people find it far-fetched, such as stuck points. Put it aside, I think the previous little prince and the ideal life drawing , the heart print on wyb’s palm, and the ear clip that xz wears recently, Teacher Lin Hai’s Peppa Pig, etc.,If you take it out one by one, it can be said to be a coincidence. Put them together, I think it’s hard to call it as a coincidence.
Under this possibility, I think their behavior is understandable. I will do my best to acknowledge you in front of everyone, without being blatant so I secretly poked and sprinkled sugar. And after 2020, , it was obvious that they didn’t want to define themselves as cql’s CP position. In this case, it is possible to interact in various ways across the air. I think it is a real possibility. It's indeed bigger.
1. Why are they attracted to each other?
Wang Xiaobao, it is estimated that children lack the company and isolation of their parents during childhood. Due to modern education and upbringing, or perhaps due to innate personality, the child is somewhat autistic. He also likes to talk to himself alone. He leaves home as a young man and lives in a high-intensity confinement under closed training, there is almost no rebellious period of youth and the self-conception of society and parents.
The process of growing up was full of doubts and conflicts, so he retained the childishness and innocence in himself. The instinctive and intuitive side forms what I consider to be a dull yet sensitive and spontaneous person. The current appearance of someone who is trusting but has low self-esteem, is covered in armor but has a soft heart. No matter how others laugh at the "typos", Jiuluoyu "got fat and lost weight" I scoff at this kind of thing! I like this kid’s thoughts to be pure and true. I hope Wang Xiaobao doesn’t have to care about that at all and can go his own way.
Let others talk! I hope this child will improve as he grows older and more experienced. Cultivate a strong heart and face the world more and more calmly without malice and harm.
Xiao Zhan, complete systematic education, complete social animal experience. I predict this kid had a very high emotional intelligence when he was in school, and he was the kind of person who had the best interpersonal relationships in the class. He played the role of a very docile and obedient student in the teacher’s mind, but I personally feel that this meekness and obedience is actually due to long-term family education and school. The "last resort and pretense" under the suppression of education are actually independent at heart. Do, doubt and despise authority (bringing the fierce gene of Chongqing people):
Because with the EQ and IQ he is showing now, he should actually be,,At that time, he could get into a school that was much better than the one he got into! (Don’t ask why. What, this is a topic of educational psychology, a few thousand words are omitted here)
Of course, if that were the case, there would be no actor fees as we see now. Yes, haha. In fact, it is precisely this character background that can support him. At the age of 24, he actually moved to the entertainment industry and survived 227! Just focus on these two points, I admire him very much! There is something about him that is both otherworldly and full of human smoke. The breath of fire has the smell of randomly switching between being born in this world and entering this world. What I saw was not an interesting soul, but a smooth, sophisticated and naive heart. Romantic, wild and unrestrained yet clear and pure soul!
Therefore, my personal feeling is: the mutual attraction between them is two. The approach of the unruly soul, the wild growth of two hearts, the pure nature of souls that have found a completely peaceful and peaceful destination in each other;
This kind of luck is unfathomable and unexpected.
========
The commercial value of CPF.
1. Number of fans. I have observed the ch data from mid-September to October 7th, Extract gg, dd, bjyx, and popular male stars at the same time node A, Data analysis of popular male star B. Both A and B are currently on the air. It is a popular drama and is recognized for its good reputation and excellent acting skills. The data are gg>dd>bjyx>A>B, where bjyx=4~5A(B),gg~ 3bjyx, dd~2bjyx, it can be seen that bjyx’s live powder data can indeed be beaten. On the 5th, Wyb's Xiaoxiang's top 1 and 2 hot reviews were both cpf, and bjyx's daily list averaged 1- 2 can reflect the data situation from the side. The number of active fans of bjyx is indeed not high.
2. Economic chain. Needless to say, Boxiao Cotton Doll is very popular in the circle. Various offline exhibitions, pbs, and outputs, including Bilibili and short videos to support. How many blog owners, video accounts, and marketing accounts do you have? Stand up for every charity event and such generous support as charity can reflect the actual benefits. It’s impressive. For GG’s birthday on the 5th, a single charity donation from a single website has 6 number of digits, last year more than 20 Hope Primary Schools were built.
The most important thing is that there is a secret love between the two. The words seem to be more topical when put openly, unless their team are smart enough to assess the public's psychology in advance, and feel that he can design a secret poke of candies that are easier to eat and can increase fans more deliberately. In this kind of clever grouping, If you are deceived during team operation, you can only admit defeat. There were two other people participating in the event. This kind of things is often used. Some people say that this is a script. I admit it. They can act, so the real point of my addiction is not this, but the two of them. Watching the other person interact with other people makes him look bad. A dark-faced reaction is more likely to be reflect inner unhappiness, I think everyone can relate to this. Recalling the dark moments in my life, I found it difficult to act and control myself. If this is really a performance, then I think the two of them deserve two Oscars, so natural.
No matter what, people in the entertainment industry must be surfing experts. I don’t believe them that they don’t know that CP consumption is becoming popular online, but now we are deliberately adding insult to injury. I can only think of the above two possibilities, and comparing the two, I prefer the first.
========
Why are they holding on to such a large CP?
Don't tell me that it's a one-sided affair or a scam, as long as anyone has a brain, no one would say that! Two years ago from 227 to now, between the two of them — how much has the number of cp followers increased in Weibo’s super chat alone? If someone did research can be done with statistics.
I’ve read a lot of Zhihu “papers” analyzing the pros and cons of maintaining CP.
I just want to discuss their purpose of doing this.
In fact, since they are out of business, they can openly share their fans and public opinions. In the direction of socialist brotherhood, this is the easiest and most important thing to do. A lucky path, or simply do nothing. After a few years, they can become naturally quiet. But they don't. So far, they still have to use hammers from time to time. I feel like they didn't just smash it with a hammer.I'm holding an axe and cutting through the thorns.
Maintaining such a large CPF is tantamount to carrying a nuclear bomb on its back.
Okay, what is their motivation and purpose for doing this? Everyone has a purpose in doing things!
Is it possible that the traffic is generated just to maintain the dispute between the three fans? It’s possible, because I’ve never been afraid to speculate on capital with the worst possible intentions. After all, they are in the entertainment industry and have to discuss business.
Or do you want to get everyone’s blessing?
-END.

Interview translation notes - Kyo & PV director Hiroyuki Kondo [Headbang 35]
Tumblr media
Kyo feels like fans and other people are better, as human beings. He can't get up at a set time in the morning to go to work or study hard, so he finds that in comparison, as one who is simply blessed by the times, he is at the bottom, below everyone else.
Meanwhile, he lives by doing everything he can before dying. Kyo also tries to avoid bothering other people. That's why he arrives 15 or 30 minutes early to meetings, and why he finishes his vocal recordings as quickly as possible so that nobody is waiting after him. And if in turn the other band members take their time pondering over what he sent and how to compose around it, then at least he gave them the longest time possible to do that.
He compared Dir en grey's special activities during the pandemic (free livestreams for example) as not necessarily being kindness, but like in the "My Neighbor Totoro" movie when the character extends the umbrella in the rain like:  "Here." He knows that some people will say that this isn't like Dir en grey while others will say: "Thank you so much", and he is glad if it helps a handful of people at least.
Kyo truly wants fans to shout "IKEDOMO JIGOKU KA" when Schadenfreude is played in concerts!
Highlight from the other members:
Die: "Shinya didn't like that the drums could not be simple hahah"
(Sorry, the rest all seemed like boring repetition of stuff that came out in other magazines...)
About Dir en grey's recent music videos, especially those included in AVERAGE PSYCHO 3:
The World of Mercy:  Kyo's ideas were: to have someone falling behind him in a scene, the insects in the lunch box, the school setting and bullying, the carnivorous plants, etc.
The concept behind the carnivorous plants and the bullying is that the song and PV refer to the vicious cycle of the perpetrator and the victim, which is why Kyo gets shot and then goes back to birth to be reborn the same way again.
Ranunculus: It was the members' idea to connect themselves with the dwarves in the decor too, which is how the director thought of linking them all with red strings (I never noticed...). Ranunculus is meant to be more hopeful than The World of Mercy. The mountain of cultural items and other cultural references in the PV, along with the bride giving birth, signify that we put people into this world through a channel that is influenced by everything around us in this life.
Ningen wo Kaburu: The director never thought that there would be any scene censored in that music video. In fact, he never expects any of his videos to get regulated, or at least he does not produce them with the intent that they will have to be censored. The concept for the PV is that Kyo and Kondo are both fans of Jodorowsky, and they wanted to do something inspired by his movies. As such, the members are part of a suspicious religious ceremony where someone gets dissected and eaten. But it all turns to black and so do the members' colours, highlighted by how Kyo's face reveals something black from inside, to show that they are inherently corrupted by the ritual. As for the Russian words in nature, they are meant to represent a world where everything is monitored and every little thing is labeled and measured, where the precision of it actually causes more confusion than anything.
Sangeki no Yoru: The director was wondering how to make each member die in a different way, and it was Shinya's idea that he wanted to: "eat a lot of hair and die."
Kyo never informs the PV director, Kondo, about his costumes ahead of time. At most, the director advises the management to forward the warning not to wear blue in their costumes if he knows that the PV will be filmed against a blue screen.
Generally, he gets surprised by all of Kyo's ideas but he loves them and always feels like: "Great! And let's build on that with that concept or that theme."
Dir en grey members are very polite and never complain even if the filming goes on forever. In fact, recently, when the production of The Perfume of Sins was more timed because it took place in a rented theatre, the members simply said: "If possible, it would be good to do it like that again from now on."
Kondo's favourite film director is Martin Scorsese. He was also heavily inspired by Yasutaki Tsutsui's work as a novelist.
He met Dir en grey only three months after their formation. The manager had reached out to him to say: "I know you're new at this, but there is this band I would like you to work with." He did their Kaede if trans VHS in 1997.

Back to the Future: The Animated Series, s02ep03 “A Friend In Deed” Review and Commentary
Previous episodes linked here.
In this episode: Lots of funny moments, another woman from the past falls in love with Marty, and I go on ramblings about Tiffany Tannen and my dislike of Cartoon Marty.
Season 2 of the animated series is really making use of green screens, huh? In episode one, Doc was stranded on an island, then he was in outer space in episode two, and now he's at the "Hill Valley Beach and Synchronized Swimming Center." He's wearing a funky outfit and using a metal detector to search for money in the sand.
Tumblr media
Is this the first time we're seeing Doc in shorts?? I can't recall, but it might be.
He tells us that he's found 85¢ so far and that it's only cost him $200 in equipment to do so. Oh, Doc. You are one of a kind.
He leads us into a story of another situation that involved buried valuables. And instead of the story beginning like it typically does with, "It all started when my sons..." or "It all started when Marty...", this story begins with Biff. And that lets us know right off the bat that it's all downhill from here, lol.
Cue the cartoon!
We begin at the Tannen residence (always a treat to hear Tom Wilson's voice), where Biff has decided that what his family needs is a swimming pool. Yes, his family. And who do we meet? His son!
Tumblr media
I've always been intrigued by what adult Biff's family situation was like. I know that an early draft of the film had George buying the peanut brittle from Biff's young daughter and that the BTTF card game and the Citizen Brown comics mention Biff's teenage daughter Tiffany Tannen. (She was also supposed to have a role in the video game, but her character was cut and "combined" with the alternate version of Jennifer.) This is the concept art for her.
Tumblr media
There's also speculation that Tiff might be included in the "Continuum Conundrum" series from the IDW comics. In the story, which takes place in the months following Marty's return home after part III, there's mention of Jennifer's friend group, which includes someone named "Tiffany." Some fans headcanon that this is a referring to Tiff Tannen. I don't really have an opinion on the theory one way or another, but it would be SUPER interesting if one of Jennifer Parker's best friends in the Lone Pine Timeline is Biff's daughter.
I would LOVE to see fanfics that include her or even focus on her. There's so much potential! You could have her resemble what she was supposed to be in the game—all rough around the edges and 100% a Tannen—or completely rework her to be a genuinely nice person. Maybe she actively rejects the Tannen reputation. Maybe she's a sweet person, but people are wary of her and judge her based on her appearance or her name. Maybe she is friends with Jen and thinks Marty is a neat guy. So much someone can do.
I digress.
In typical Biff fashion, he's going to make his young son dig the hole for a pool while he sits around in a lounge chair. Father of the year. Also, we haven't seen a whole lot of Biff so far in this series, so I haven't had anything to say about him, but it's clear he's not the meek version of Biff we have at the end of the first film. Cartoon Biff acts very much like he was never taken down a notch or had anything happen to humble him. So...I wonder what the story is there.
(Side note to also mention that we haven't seen—or even heard of—George and Lorraine. Marty's just always at Doc's house, with no information on parents or siblings. I wouldn't be surprised if a young kid watching this in 1992 without having seen the movies simply thought that Marty was part of Doc's family.)
While digging, Little Biff (referred to as Junior) unearths a piece of paper. We don't know what it is, but Biff gets a smile on his face as he reads it, so it can't be good. We cut immediately to the Parker family ranch!
Tumblr media
Jen's family owns a ranch! I love it!
Marty is there having lunch with Jen and her grandparents, but it is NOT going well. Because Cartoon Marty is nearly unrecognizable from his Movie Counterpart, he's being an immature, disrespectful doofus around Jen's relatives. He places a whoopee cushion on Jennifer's grandmother's seat, then puts a fake ice cube with a spider "frozen" in it into her drink. And he just sits there hysterically laughing even though nobody else thinks it's funny. Jennifer's grandfather in particular becomes angered by Marty's incessant pranking.
Tumblr media
Grandpa Parker, considering pummeling Marty.
And I know I've mentioned many times about how much I dislike the choices made with Marty's character, but. Seriously, what happened here? WHO made these choices and why didn't Bob Gale stop them? This might as well have been a completely different character, that's how unlike Marty he is. He's self-centered a lot of the time. He's dishonest (there was a whole episode where he just piles on lie after lie). He's cocky and inconsiderate and ridiculously immature. He is NOT my Marty McFly.
Tumblr media
See the boy on the left? Love the boy on the left. Fantastic little dude. Five out of five stars. See the boy on the right? Don't like him all that much. Many things wrong. Sad.
It bums me out that they took such a great, loveable guy and ripped all his great traits to shreds, leaving us with whatever it is Cartoon Marty's got going on. I don't even know. Guy's got issues.
Time to reel my focus back in. Just as Grandpa Parker seems poised to give Marty a serious talking to, Biff shows up wit the police. Marty asks Jennifer why her grandparents would invite Biff because, "He's a jerk with a bad sense of humor."
"Look who's talking," Jen's grandfather replies.
Go. Grandpa. Parker.
When Grandpa Parker orders Biff off his land, Biff informs him that it's HIS land. The piece of paper he found in his yard was a deed to the Parker property dated 1875 and signed by one of Jen's relatives, as well as Biff's great-great-granduncle.
Tumblr media
Biff tells the Parkers that he's going to turn the ranch into a toxic waste dump and miniature golf course, which is both horrible and very funny. Quite in-character for Biff Tannen. As he prepares to order the house to be demolished, Jennifer calls to Marty for help, but he's taken off on his hoverboard. Assuming that he's doing it to run away from the trouble, Jennifer proclaims, "There's nothing worse than a chicken." The actual, literal chicken standing beside her gets very insulted and walks away, lol.
We then go to the Brown home, where Verne is impatiently waiting to eat. Jules is making him pancakes on a ridiculous specialized griddle he invented because Jules is extra like that.
Tumblr media
Marty bursts into the kitchen, yelling that he needs to borrow the DeLorean to help Jen's family. Jules informs him that the car isn't there—Doc and Clara have taken it to go see Hamlet, performed by the original cast—but that he can use the train. Marty and the boys take off for 1875.
Once there, Marty immediately sets his sights on warning Jennifer's relatives about the ranch. However, he's interrupted before he can do so, on account of another woman spies Marty and immediately has a crush on him (naturally). I should have been keeping count of how many episodes include someone laying eyes on Marty and falling in love with him.
But wait. Wait. You NEED to know how the scene starts off. The woman walks straight up to Marty and goes, "Howdy, handsome!" followed immediately by this:
Verne: "Handsome? Get real."
Jules: "Get glasses!"
Had to stop it right there because I was laughing. Jules and Verne think Marty is ugly CONFIRMED.
Anyway, the woman ends up being Hepzibah Tannen, sister of Thaddeus Tannen (whose name was on the deed). And Hepzibah is head-over-heels for Marty. At one point, Marty ends up at her house, and Thaddeus is not thrilled to meet him. Before he can toss him out, Hepzibah picks Marty up, holds him close, and shouts at her brother, "Give me that! It's mine!"
Tumblr media
Ridiculous.
Since his sister is so in love, Thaddeus agrees to let Marty join his gang. Thaddeus teaches Marty how to box and how to steal things from people (Marty immediately returns the items when Thaddeus isn't looking. +1 point for Cartoon Marty). Marty also continues his practical jokes by giving Thaddeus gum that turns your mouth black. Thaddeus isn't happy. This is necessary info to understand part of the next scene.
Back on the Parker ranch, where Jules and Verne have become farmhands, they come across these posters.
Tumblr media
Several things to note here. 1. "DEAD OR UNALIVE" 2. Marty's gum gave Thaddeus a nickname. 3. Marty is only "sort of wanted" 4. Thaddeus evidently decked Marty for playing a prank on him.
Later on at the Tannen home, Thaddus suggests Marty and Hepzibah get married. This is followed by some very funny dialogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm definitely finding the humor to be better in the second season. I've laughed out loud several times since I started it.
The next day, Thaddeus and one of his other gang members go off to get Marty and Hepzibah a wedding present. Marty manages to sneak away from his "engagement picnic" to intercept Thaddeus, who is in the process of stealing the ranch from Mr. Parker. He has Mrs. Parker tied to the railroad tracks, and the only way he'll let her loose is if the deed to the ranch is signed over. This is his wedding present to his sister and Marty.
Which. Doesn't really make sense? I mean, it makes sense here, but then what motivated him to steal it originally, before Marty time traveled? Maybe Hepzibah had fallen for a different guy? Or Thaddeus simply wanted the ranch just because? Idk.
When Thaddeus goes to sign the deed, Marty lends him a pen (which is another prank, hehe. The pen has ink that eventually fades away.) Thaddeus then refuses to untie Mrs. Parker, so Marty refuses to go back home with him. Thaddeus leaves, Marty, Jules, and Verne save Mrs. Parker, and all is well. Marty assures the Parkers that their ranch is safe, and he hops on the time-train with the boys.
Marty returns to the present-day ranch, stops the bulldozer, and shows everyone the deed, which now has no signatures. Biff gets a citation for disturbing the peace, and Marty is back in Jennifer's good graces. The end!
Back at the beach, Real Doc digs up an antique fountain pen, accidentally squirts himself in the eye with the ink, and then leads us into the experiment portion of the show, where we're taught how to make invisible ink. We then return to Doc, who finds something else with his metal detector: the keys to the DeLorean that he'd lost the week prior. Yep. Doc had been searching the sand all that time for his car keys. Goofy guy.
Fun episode. I always enjoy when they're Marty, Jules, and Verne-centered, and this was a funny one as well. It was neat having an episode with so much Tom Wilson! (he voiced Biff and Thaddeus)
Wow, this post was a long one. I did go on a few side-tangents, haha. To those who read this whole thing: thanks for sticking with me. I'm so glad there are people who enjoy reading these silly episode commentary posts!
Join me next time to see Marty accidentally join the army in 1944.

So I ran into your thoughts on the Beginning, and as far as the timeline goes, I think Lui (like Menoa) is wrong. The JP Chosen are clearly different from the World chosen. Only they are summoned to the Digiworld. I think Lui's wish via homeostasis just made it so that non-Chosen children would get Digivices to be able to maintain partnerships, and they were modeled after the original digivice, and began popping up after Adventure. But when new chosen were needed in 02, they got new digivices.
That's an interesting idea! Apologies, I wish I could be more helpful, but I only saw The Beginning once, and I spent most of it reeling and not taking much in (I didn't respond well to certain plot elements).
I personally find it difficult to make conclusions about "our Japanese Chosen (Taichi and Daisuke's groups) vs the rest of the Chosen around the world," because to my knowledge, we don't receive a lot of details about the global Chosen and what they can and cannot do.
We know Michael Barton and Betamon can go to the Digital World, so I do think all global Chosen can travel to the DW. But does that mean that all global Chosen were selected by Homeostasis? Or are they a second category generated by Lui's wish in The Beginning, and they have partners, can presumably evolve them to some extent, and can travel to the DW, but were not hand selected warriors of the DW? But I really doubt The Beginning's plot beats and lore existed when Adventure and 02 were being written and created, so at best, this is back-filling information. A lot depends on how each viewer feels about adding the information of the new films into their understanding of the old content, or if viewers prefer to let the old content stand alone and treat the new content as fun extras that don't really impact their feelings/understanding of the old content.
I personally haven't assigned much weight to Kizuna or The Beginning for lore, simply because it feels like they wrote around existing lore to make these plots work with existing information. In my mind, that is why both plots hinge on Menoa and Lui being "wrong" about various Lore Important Issues, while details from the original series point us to what most fans see as the "correct" interpretation, with a little bit of subtext from the new films.
I'm not saying that this is bad or wrong, or that people are incorrect for folding the new content into existing lore. In fact, I think a lot of anime movies especially rely on similar write-around methods! Basically, I just think a lot is going to come down to personal preference with what to accept and what to ignore, especially because it's just a LOT of content at this point (two 50+ episode animes, the handful of Digimon movies released in the 2000s ish, Tri, Kizuna, The Beginning, various drama CDs and novels, etc).
This does make me realize that I could really stand a rewatch of the World Tour and the ending of 02. Makes sense that there could be relevant info about the global Chosen there! And I believe the ending of 02 is where we get our most direct (aka non subtext) lore about what makes the Chosen/partner bond work.
Thanks for the ask, your ideas are very interesting and I enjoy hearing them!

Hey @maeve-on-mustafar, thank you for the ask! Unfortunately it's trapped in my inbox omfg so I guess I have to answer it like this instead. Functional website.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I love to chat. ❤️
Up front, my answer to this is informed by my own take on canon, which may differ from some other interpretations bc I'm a Legends fan and not super into the Filoniverse. I feel like I need this little disclaimer bc I won't be discussing TCW, I'm mostly interested in what we see in the PT.
But based on that, I personally think the answer to the first question is yes, he is aware of that. Not to sound pithy or dismissive or anything, but I can't imagine Anakin not knowing that about himself-- if he knows anything, he knows that. I believe in the tags you're talking about here I make a reference to his comment in TPM where he says to Padme that he "wouldn't have lasted long" on Tatooine if he hadn't been so good at building things-- he was born into slavery, his entire existence violently delimited by the labor his enslavers could forcibly extract from him, and even the values Shmi instilled in him ("the biggest problem in this universe is that no one wants to help each other "), righteous and selfless though they may be, were predicated on this idea that your worth as a person is dependent on what you can do for or give other people. This is also a core tenet of Jedi ideology-- a giving over of the self to serve the greater good in the galaxy. "What can we do for each other? What do we owe each other?" seem to be questions that George was trying to explore in the six-film saga, and he grapples with this questions using a protagonist who spent his formative years hideously abused and exploited as a child slave. Insane btw. Insane man. In the PT, Anakin is flanked by two supporting characters (Obi-Wan and Padme) who both define themselves by their service to the galaxy. From his point of view, this is ALSO how he would describe Palpatine, regardless of our knowing that Palpatine was only ever projecting a false persona to pursue his own ends. And these are three of the four people who are most important to Anakin (the fourth ofc being Shmi, a slave, also inescapably defined by what she can do and give), the three people whom he idolizes above all others. What you can do for other people-- your usefulness, your utility, and how far you'll go to prove it-- is central not only to Anakin's sense of self, but the entire concept of goodness as it exists in Star Wars.
To get to the crux of it, do I think Anakin only "lasted as long as he did" with the Jedi bc he was especially useful to them?? Absolutely yes. Regardless of the actual validity of that, it's what he believed. This is a guy whose brain was borked from infancy into believing that his survival is dependent upon his exceptionalism, his productiveness, his cultivation of valuable skills and his ability to serve-- his personality formed around this, and it wasn't simply a "belief" to him, it was a fact, it was a component of the actual material conditions of his life on Tatooine, and he knew that if he failed to exceed the expectations of his superiors, there was always some worse fate waiting for him just around the corner, whether it was death or violence or being sold to a worse enslaver, and when I mentioned in my tags that his usefulness is a matter of existential security, it's very literal, this is what I mean. And a person doesn't shed this mindset just bc he goes to live with new people somewhere else-- no matter how nice the Jedi may have been to Anakin, you can't reset a child to factory settings, the only personality he has and has ever had is the one that formed under the horrific and violently-enforced conditions of slavery, there is no unfucked version of himself that he is able to fall back on or reconnect with once he's free. This is the identity he's got.
And what do we know about the Jedi permitting Anakin's training? We know that in the span of like 24 hours we go from Qui-Gon telling Anakin "I'm not allowed to train you" to Obi-Wan telling him "the Council has granted me permission to train you." What changed? No character ever outright states what made the Council reconvene on a settled matter, though we do know it must have been a controversial move based on Yoda's uhh dissatisfaction ("agree on you taking this boy as your padawan learner, I do not") with the outcome. I don't think Qui-Gon's death alone was enough to sway the decision, and I don't think it was done out of pity or a sense of obligation or doing right, I think we're meant to believe it was because of Anakin's participation in the destruction of the blockade of Naboo and the plausibility of the Chosen One prophecy coupled with the threat of the return of the Sith. Like half the time we see the Council, they're bandying about the question of Anakin's Chosen One status and the validity of the prophecy, we know they view him in a different light than they do all the other Jedi. After his initial assessment and rejection, Anakin certainly knows that he was only later admitted into the Order under extraordinary circumstances, having failed to pass the ordinary test. I'm not sure if as a nine-year-old he knew anything about the prophecy, but he definitely knew that destroying the Trade Federation command center ended the Naboo crisis and saved the day. And that is uhhhh one hell of a special exception to win over a group of people who wanted nothing to do with you the day before.
So he uses his Skills and decisively (explosively) ends a planetary occupation and the Council does a complete about-face and decides that maybe they can train him to be a Jedi after all, that the advantage of that may outweigh the perceived danger he poses to them (lol). This is setting a precedent. This is, to use extremely simplified logic, "as long as I can go above and beyond to solve other people's problems, people will want to keep me around." We don't know the conditions underlying Anakin's tenancy with the Jedi Order-- we don't know what would happen to him or where he would go if being a Jedi Just Wasn't Working Out; the one time he asks, Obi-Wan simply tells him, "You will be a Jedi, I promise you." Presumably they wouldn't just send him back to Tatooine to fend for himself but that still leaves a whole galaxy of alternatives lol, and when this character's path to self-actualization begins with "I had a dream I was a Jedi. I came back [to Tatooine] and freed all the slaves," any of these alternatives would be, from his perspective, the something worse that's waiting for him just around the corner should he fail to prove his exceptional value. It's a failure that threatens what he believes, with a child's conviction in fairytale heroes, is his only way of accessing a power great enough to overthrow the oppressive establishment on his home planet (appealing to the political process for justice is useless when the entire political process is mired in self-serving corruption, as the entire PT lays out) and heal the damage that was done to him and pretty much everyone he knows. This failure is obvs unacceptable. He can't live with himself if he's not a Jedi capable of saving the slaves (his mother), the moral injury is too deep. So he has to keep proving himself to these people so they keep wanting to keep him around. Certainly no Jedi ever said to him, "Anakin, if you don't become the best and strongest Jedi ever, we're going to send you to the glue factory and everyone you know will die in terrible agony and it will all be your fault," but it was nonetheless the reality imposed on him by his being unsalvageably clinically fucked up. Children exist at the behest of the adults who accept responsibility for them-- following a major life upheaval involving even a voluntary separation of a child from his only (and vital) support system, there is little stability in the knowledge that your new guardians (essentially strangers) could send you away on a whim if they suddenly decide you're too much of a burden to continue dealing with ("Qui-Gon sir, I don't want to be a problem"), especially when you have no recourse to appeal that decision. Therefore, it's up to Anakin to cobble together his own sense of stability the only way he knows how.
To address the second question, I guess it's difficult to imagine if Anakin would still feel the same in a galaxy without Palpatine bc a galaxy without Palpatine is unrecognizable to the universe as it was established in TPM-- Palpatine orchestrated the entire plot, he laid the whole foundation and set all the players into motion, how Anakin might have come to the Jedi Order without Palpatine is entirely up to individual fancy. But if what you mean is, would Anakin still have felt the same if Palpatine hadn't been involved in his personal life?, I still think the answer is yes. I don't think this was an idea planted in his head by Palpatine at all, I think it's an idea that pre-dates Palpatine as an influence on Anakin, even if Palpatine later exploited and manipulated it for his own gain. And honestly, I think the whole Jedi ethos probably did more to reinforce this idea in Anakin's brain than anything else-- the Jedi teach selflessness to the point of self-sacrifice, and it's easy to see how this teaching, while rooted in dedication to justice and public service, could feed into Anakin's pre-existing anxieties about needing to be useful, and how usefulness is analogous to goodness/worthiness. To say nothing on how self-sacrifice can tip so easily over into self-destruction, when pushed to extremes. It's not that Anakin's life as a Jedi is in any way equivalent to his life as a slave, and I def don't think the Jedi were demanding Anakin be their Super Specialest Boy or else they would cast him into the Outer Darkness, it's just that his worldview will always be impacted by his enslavement and the lessons he integrated into his lived reality during that period. This is exactly why training him was "too dangerous"-- he would never be able to "purely" assimilate the Order's teachings, they would always be filtered through the lens of his prior experiences in ways the Jedi could not anticipate or control.
HOLY SHIT. Sorry this got so long. There are a lot of half-baked ideas here I didn't fully explore, so sorry if my points aren't coming across. I just find this to be a huge and interesting topic and it's hard to condense all my thoughts down into something readable bc I've uhhh spent a lot of time thinking about it and trying to wrangle that into coherency is. Challenging. Lol. 💀 If you have any thoughts you'd like to share, or if I missed your point entirely lol, I'd love to hear from you!!

Maja, do you think that Chris's team is thinking that people are forgetting the good image he built during the Captain America era, you know, the good guy image, the internet sweetheart image and stuff, and that's why they are "pushing" Chris to do the autograph session as Cap at comic con?
I say "push" because I don't see how in good conscience he would accept that right now, has no reason to. I would understand if it was a celebration of 10 years since he made the last film as Cap, but no.
Also, it's a slap in the face to Mackie, because he's Cap now and Chris made it clear on twitter a little while ago. Maybe, MAYBE, they fell out and Chris is putting his ego first again?
And I don't think it's for the money tho, because he made $20 million with TGM.
To be honest with you, I don't really know what to think about this whole Comic Con thing. I have the impression that something is missing, that there are a lot of things that we are unaware of, and I simply do not believe that we have a clear picture. I don't think he does it for the money, that's for sure, and I also doubt he would do something like this with Mackie. Something that I also don't understand is that I can't imagine that he would be able to do all of this without Marvel. It's different, as I understand, when he meets people on the red carpet or on the street and signs something Captain America-related. However, I don't think he would be able to basically sell them or make money out of it without Marvel or them having a certain percentage of it, considering that they own the name and everything. Of course, I could be wrong, and it might not be this Captain America-centric. I can imagine that once he realized that many of his fans were upset with him, etc., he just wanted to spend time with them, earning their love and trust back. 🤷‍♀️
I don't know. I need more information, and I need to see how it will go down to form a more accurate opinion.

Although i think the kind of people who sent Kit those messages are the least likely to care about the damage they cause. I do think it is important to inform them that their impact is not only offensive but it can create a very toxic environment. I also wonder why some celebs don't take a long hiatus from their public socials? They can not control the hateful things that people do, not many can, but they can certainly limit their interactions with randoms online, no?
Hi Anon,
I agree — those that spearheaded the harassment probably don’t even care about they damage they caused. However, hopefully the sheep, the followers, those that jumped on the bandwagon or those that were temporarily swayed by the simplistic ideas behind it who believed what they were doing was for the greater good, may have had their eyes opened and understand the damage they caused and contributed to. If just a few realise what they’ve done wrong, maybe when it happens again (to anybody) there’ll be less people. Sadly, I think that’s the best we can ask for right now.
I 100% agree sometimes it’s important and also the correct method to remove yourself from bad situations. In theory it’s a really good solution — I really wish such a simple solution of “just don’t go online” existed — but unfortunately it’s not that simple in practice. I believe they don’t do it because it simply won’t work. Leaving may be a great temporary solution for your emotional well-being but the issues never get resolved, it still looms in the background.
Specifically for Kit’s situation:
I believe the harassers weren’t going to stop until they got their answers. He could have disappeared from social media but the harassment might not have stopped. Instead, there could be the potential that the harassment would have escalated. Unable to harass him personally online they could have turned to methods such as hurtful “”fan mail”” or harassing answers out of other cast mates, friends or relatives. More drastically, they could have resorted to finding him in person or, if he secured another acting project, shown up at the film site. Imagine he bumped into one on the street while he was out, they’d try getting their answers there instead. He’d always have to worry.
I know it’s all hypothetical, but I think they’re likely possibilities that would have had to have been considered.
Admittedly yes, maybe the harassers would have lost interest. But much like the common advice “when someone bullies you they’re trying to get a rise out of you, so just don’t react” it’s unhelpful and more often than not it’s not even true - they’ll continue to bully you. Or they’ll leave you alone for a while but as soon as you cross their sight again they’ll pick up right where they left off. So after coming back from a long hiatus maybe the harassment would just start all over again, then what would the sacrifice have been for?
More widely though:
If leaving social media became the prevalent go-to reaction/response to harassment I feel like it could lead to very bad things. For example, someone online dislikes a certain celebrity or public figure on social media, then all they would have to do would be to intentionally start a harassment campaign and *poof* they’re gone. With the rise of the far-right on most social media platforms this would be very very bad. If taken far enough whole platforms could end up being overtaken by the far right and good voices suppressed. I feel like that’d have very negative consequences without ever tackling the proper issue.
Further, in Kit’s situation it wasn’t just solely about the emotional impact of the harassment either. If people kept harassing him and he did choose to disappear from the public eye (i.e social media) then he could probably kiss goodbye to any future acting projects. He wouldn’t be able to engage or promote with fans on public socials like most cast are now required to do. He’d be followed by unresolved, uncontrollable ““controversy””. Future casting may invite the same trouble to a new project - who would risk it? Add it all up and he’d no longer be deemed a valid, good, profitable or marketable choice.
Taking a long hiatus from public socials is a valid short term solution and would definitely reduce their direct interactions with the randos and harassment online but in my opinion it also doesn’t solve anything long term. I don’t know.
I’m not saying you’re wrong and I’m not saying I’m right. It’s a really complex situation. I simply don’t know. Is there even a right answer/solution to online harassment like this? I doubt it as things currently stand.
Sorry this ended up way longer than I expected or intended but it all seemed too relevant to cut down.

Hello :3, I hope you are feeling well 🤧💕.  I wanted to share with you and get your opinion. I recently read an interesting tweet explaining what is canon and makes sense in "Naruto" and "Boruto". This tweet was written by an ardent hater of retsuden, so I knew that this information could be trusted, but I was very surprised when I read that the anime "Boruto" does not create fillers because it is a guide to the universe or something.
I know that Kishi himself worked on some arcs, I know that some episodes better show the development of characters of a new generation and such episodes, of course, can be considered canon, because they are directly related to the manga. But basically the anime consists almost entirely of some kind of utter nonsense, which simply cannot be considered a canon in any way.
In the same tweet, the novel dedicated to Kakashi (unfortunately I can't remember the name) was marked as canon, because it was filmed in anime. That is, the people responsible for the anime can stuff anything into it and it immediately begins to be considered canon? Obviously not. Of course, I still won't take all these anime fillers for canon, since they just don't make any sense. Perhaps I misunderstood something, because after, in the tweets of the same people, I saw how they refuted the canonicity of the ss scene from the anime "Boruto", because it was not developed by Kishimoto.
I would really like to know your thoughts on this. And, for God's sake, I'm sorry if you didn't understand anything, my English is still bad 🤧.
Hi @stupendousfishdiplomatdeputy !!! 💕
I understood you perfectly!!
So.
There is no such thing as "the individual/(sub-)fandom thinks (x) makes sense so it is Canon."
It's either Canon or it's not.
ANIME CANON = FILLER?
KISHIMOTO & BORUTO
It reeeeeaaaaaallllyyyyyyy is that simple!
Now why would a fandom torture themselves? Why pretend they're in some Avatar Universe to play some mind-bending Uri Gellar-type tricks? What is there to gain?
Tumblr media
If you look at the filler-list from 'Boruto' then you can see that more than 80% of the Anime is filler. It is a joke. Yet their fans very defensively claim that it is only around 11% or so.. why is that?
This is because they claim that episodes marked as "Anime Canon" aren't filler, but as you say "a guide to the Universe". (How creative.)
That's complete and utter bullshit.
Did they forget that the entire world-building has already been done? People are more than familiar with it. Unless of course, they're not. Let me explain.
The creators, although they make questionable decisions, aren't stupid. They are aware that most Naruto-fans loathe the show which means that now they have a new audience that is very defensive about 'Boruto'. An audience that knows that their show has many haters. Objectively, if you've never seen 'Naruto', then 'Boruto' can be confusing. "Anime Canon" could be seen as.. "new 'Boruto' audience Canon only" for that reason.
Get it? It has nothing to do with the 'Naruto-verse' turned 'Boruto-verse'. Nothing to do with 'Naruto'. It is there to entertain the new audience (who don't care about the OG-story) and its info could or could not be in alignment with the original story. Depends on convenience.
You know what that means right?
Filler.
Anime Canon = Filler.
It doesn't matter if it "makes sense" or not.
The existence of 'Boruto' doesn't make sense, so there you go. Besides the point though.
If a fandom has to make guesses, sift and sort whether as to something "can be marked" as Canon or not then that in itself is a red flag. The answer immediately is: no.
That's why even after years, the Naruto-fandom keeps fighting over shit like this..
"But Kishimoto worked on-" Oh really? Where is the source? Where is anyone's source? No, honestly. All these people claiming to know what Kishimoto is doing over there "overseeing the 'Boruto' production".. I wish people would stop using Google or Twitter for their Naruto-info 😂
He oversees the Manga, yeah probably because it's stated he's the supervisor (I guess), but not the Anime.
Look, I have read the arguments- don't get me wrong. 'Boruto' is a new era. An era of technology. A world where you don't even have to be a Ninja to use NinJutsu. The possibilities are endless! But even the fans admit that the Anime is filled with static, vague and underdeveloped arcs. And I read them complaining about the creators putting in little to no thought- how is that world-building in the Anime-only, how is that considered in alignment to the Manga, to the 'Boruto-verse'? How is that acceptable? How, in their words, not mine: "the OG-fans should just shut the hell up about 'Boruto' because it is not disrespecting their lovely 'Naruto'."?
The 'enticing incident' occurs in the Manga and this (I hope) will happen dynamically. This is supposed to be a fully-developed event. The main-story and author doesn't need the Anime to help it develop and explain such crucial events. You can see it as an enhancement. Something to bring it to life- a challenge. It is led by the Manga since the Anime follows it in this case at least. They just chose horrible timing since they got greedy. (I don't know why else.)
"In the same tweet, the novel dedicated to Kakashi (unfortunately I can't remember the name) was marked as canon, because it was filmed in anime."
So Konoha Shinden (Yukemuri Ninpōchō) arc was in the anime too. What if for example they'll say they'll animate Hetsuden as an arc in the 'Boruto' series as well? That would be a disaster, but they can call it "Anime Canon". Suddenly 'Boruto' has dinosaurs and flying motorcycles and.. oh wait impossible because then Sasuke would need his Rinnegan and Kurama would have to come back etc..
Thank god.
Okay but let's say they would. Would that suddenly make it Canon then? Just because they decide to adapt an extra arc and animate that bs, would that make it Canon!? Of course those fans will say "yes", but of course the answer is "no". Of course they'll make up a hundred excuses as to why it "makes sense" that the answer for them is a "yes". It is still "no".
They can blabber on as much as they want, it won't change anything.
I hope that helps! Have a nice day stupendousfishdiplomatdeputy I hope you're well! 🧡^^

I came across this interview with Meg Donnelly and there were a couple of inconsistencies that stuck out.
Powerful female roles are definitely something that’s been lacking in fantasy cinema historically and it’s fantastic we’re seeing such a growth in representation. Did you watch any fantasy series growing up that shaped this interest?
Yes! I am a huge Marvel fan and watched Star Trek with mom.
First, how in the world would male-dominated series shape an interest in powerful female roles? She couldn't pull out any female-dominated fantasy series to answer with, like Buffy?
You’re also very politically active on socials which is great! Do you find that being involved in film and music, you have to strike a balance between asserting your opinion on events and knowing when’s best not to contribute?
I believe that everyone should be informed. Gather all kinds of information and formulate an opinion that speaks to you. I prefer to speak of my own experiences, so people don’t think they are alone, especially concerning their mental health struggles. Also, I seek to partner with agencies, doctors, and therapists to share resources for those seeking support.
It’s brilliant to see influencers use their voice to support people- social media has become such a powerhouse for social & political awareness-Is there one in particular you find is your go to? I feel like TikTok has absolutely ruined my attention span for literally anything else.
Instagram is my go-to platform!
Second, why in the world would the interviewer bring this up, and why would Meg respond positively to being politically active when one can go directly to her Instagram page and see absolutely nothing obviously political in her posts? It's practically all photoshoots and selfies. (Maybe she posts in her stories, but I certainly wouldn't call that politically active.)
It seems like she's taking a page directly out of Danneel's playbook and playing off as someone she's not, which, as we've seen from Danneel, certainly didn't help her career. So do you think the same thing could happen to Meg is she fudges interviews like this?
Great observations, to add to what you wrote, professional actors who are politically active are frowned upon within the industry simply because unless they have the academic background or training to go into politics they need to stick to their own profession. As you noted, Meg seems to be taking a page out of Danneel's book, she's trying to get woke points by pretending to be something she could never actually live up to.

Four Must-Read Books Based on “Alice in Wonderland”
I know I just finished my “Artists in Wonderland” event, but I’m still in an Alice mood, and especially in regards to literature. So I decided to cover another topic in terms of Wonderland in writing: different books based on the “Alice” stories. Of course, movies, video games, and TV shows have given us countless reinterpretations of the “Alice” stories and characters, but there have been just as many - and probably more - in writing. From stories based on the real-life events behind the scenes, to sequels, reimaginings, and prequels of the Carrollian classics, literature has provided an abundance of different takes on Wonderland. What’s interesting is that - beyond children’s picture books and such other things -  many of these reinterpretations take a darker and more adult stance with the story, creating unique lore and diving into the characters in a way Carroll’s stories do not do. This is nothing new, of course, but literature can do this in a way that most screen-based versions either cannot or do not. Now, there are numerous books based on Wonderland, like I said, and I’ve read my fair share. Today, however, I wanted to provide a short “must read” list with four key books that I feel anyone interested in “Alice” should take a look at. Again, there are a LOT more than four. Some books I enjoy that I won’t be mentioning here are The Splintered Trilogy, The Alice Chronicles, The Queen of Hearts Saga, Still She Haunts Me, After Alice, and Grin: The Unauthorized Biography of a Cheshire Cat. These are just to name a few that aren’t included here: all of them have their own unique merits and are worth looking up if you have time. These are just four books that I would classify as the cream of the crop. I should add that I won’t be including non-fiction books on the list, such as biographies, analytical or informational texts, etc. I’m specifically looking at works of fiction inspired by the stories. With that said, here are Four Must-Read Books for Alice in Wonderland Fans.
Tumblr media
4. Alice I Have Been.
I’m starting this off with the most unique and arguably the most fascinating of the whole bunch. “Alice I Have Been,” written by Melanie Benjamin, is NOT an “Alice in Wonderland” story. It isn’t about the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, or any of the characters in the books. Instead, this is a piece of historical fiction that effectively tells the life story of Alice Hargreaves (nee Liddell), the young lady who inspired Charles Dodgson (a.k.a. Lewis Carroll) to write the Wonderland books to begin with. The novel focuses on Alice’s relationship with Carroll, of course, but also just on her life in general, as she squares off her own desires and simple humanity with the fact that she is seen as someone she isn’t. In a way, the book is a lot like the movie “Dreamchild,” but while that film occasionally brings people into the fantasy of Wonderland and mostly focuses on Alice as an old woman, “Alice I Have Been” sticks entirely to the real world, and traces her life pretty much from birth to death. It’s not a biography, as it IS written in the form of a novel, and does take some liberties here and there based on the writer’s presumptions and the themes and ideas they want to play with. However, it does paint a very sincere and true-to-life portrait of the young woman, whose life story so many people never really paid attention to. If you’re more interested in reading about the actual Wonderland characters and world, then the other three books on this list are going to be more to your taste, but I felt I simply could not leave Melanie Benjamin’s gorgeous story out of the running.
Tumblr media
3. Unbirthday.
This book is part of a series by Liz Braswell, called “Twisted Tales.” The series is published by Disney, and in each novel, a question is asked about a particular Disney movie. The novel then riffs on that question, usually by presenting a sort of AU or “What If?” scenario, but sometimes by creating a new story, a prequel or sequel, to provide a new spin on the world and characters. The latter is the case with “Unbirthday.” Admittedly, Unbirthday’s premise is not the most inspired: a grown-up Alice returns to Wonderland, and finds it has become a darker and more dangerous place than ever before. She thus joins forces with a group of freedom fighters to battle the Queen of Hearts and save Wonderland. This exact premise, in those two sentences, can sum up a LOT of different “Alice” works. And I mean A LOT: most of the more prominent darker reinterpretations of Wonderland follow that basic formula. This book isn’t the first, and it isn’t the last. So, what makes it special? One simple little thing: all other darker Wonderlands with this premise are essentially their own invention. They aren’t based on any specific pre-existing version of the stories, they’re really their own thing, with their own special spin on the setting and characters. “Unbirthday” is interesting because it’s actually based on a very particular version of Wonderland, the Disney one. This makes the story unique, because we aren’t simply seeing newer, darker takes on the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, and other characters. We’re seeing the Disney ones - the ones so many of us know best and are familiar with from childhood, beyond all the rest - being corrupted and twisted in various ways. Similarly, we aren’t simply seeing a grown-up Alice, we’re seeing the Disney Alice all grown up. It’s a bit like watching “Spider-Man: No Way Home” versus “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Both are films with similar concepts at play, but they take very different approaches, and a big part of this is that one uses versions of the characters we’ve seen before and have a pre-established connection with, while the other is totally original. The best part is that Braswell’s writing is so meticulously handled, the characters really DO feel like those Disney versions, from the way they speak to the way they are described as generally behaving. If you’re a fan of dark Wonderlands, a fan of the Disney film, or both, check this one out.

2. Heartless.
This book by Marissa Meyer is a rare example of a prequel to the “Alice” stories. This is something that actually isn’t as common as you would think. Sequels to Wonderland and reimaginings of the story are pretty easy to come by, but prequels - stories that detail the world before Alice - are quite rare. I think this is mostly because, in the books, Wonderland is supposedly just a dream Alice had. And in many strict adaptations, it’s left ambiguous, at best, how much of Wonderland was a dream and how much of it was real. So what’s the point in creating a backstory and lore to a world that doesn’t exist? Well, of course, these works base themselves on the idea it DOES exist, and while they are not common, they are out there. In my opinion, “Heartless” is the single best Wonderland prequel I’ve ever come across. The story ostensibly tells the tale of how the Queen of Hearts - here named Catherine - became the fat, pompous, bad-tempered old tyrant we all know and love to hate. In other words, it’s essentially “Wicked” (the novel, not the play), but for the Queen of Hearts. And much like “Wicked,” it not only gives us the skinny on the main villainess, but also involves multiple other characters from the books, most notably the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the Duchess, and the King of Hearts, although other characters show up here and there, too. The primary reason I think Meyer’s book tops other prequels to the stories is simply this: with other prequels I’ve encountered, there’s always this sort of inconclusive feeling. Like, it’s hard to imagine these characters becoming the ones in the Carroll stories. That ISN’T the case with “Heartless”: not only is Catherine’s petulant, furious, rage-filled personality perfectly understandable, giving a once comically cruel and violently nasty villain a sympathetic and complex persona, but other characters feel very natural in their progression from where they start off to where we next see them. They’re written in such a way that they really do feel like those Victorian caricatures of madness we all care about so much, while still existing in their own unique space. This, above all else, makes Heartless one of my favorite Wonderland-based books. Check it out if you ever wanted to know what life was like before Alice’s fall.

1. The Looking-Glass Wars.
Frank Beddor’s “The Looking-Glass Wars” Trilogy is, without a doubt, my favorite book based on the “Alice” stories. It’s another dark reimagining of Wonderland that, on the surface, has the same basic formula “Unbirthday” and so many other stories have, but the way it interprets the world and the characters is totally its own, and wonderfully creative. The premise of “The Looking-Glass Wars” is that the story we all know and love so well is a boldfaced lie: the tale begins when Alyss Heart - the Princess of Wonderland, rightful heir to the throne - has her parents killed and kingdom usurped by her evil Aunt Redd. With the aid of Hatter Madigan, her loyal bodyguard, Alyss escapes through the Pool of Tears to our world…but because of some problems in-transit, Hatter is thrown all the way into France, while Alyss ends up in a slum in England. She is eventually taken in by the Liddell family, and meets Charles Dodgson, who writes a story inspired by the “wild fantasies” she tells him about. This story, of course, becomes the “Alice in Wonderland” we all know and love today. As time goes on, Alice forgets her old life and world entirely…until she’s finally rediscovered by her people, and brought back (along with Hatter M.) to Wonderland, to join the resistance and take back the crown from her traitorous aunt. In essence, the first book is “The Lion King” but with a Wonderland motif…but that’s only where the story starts, as the book would have two sequels, and not one, but TWO spin-off comic book series. I love the imagination and unique perspective Beddor’s books have, and the way it reinterprets classic characters. Some of them - like Aunt Redd, Bibwit Harte, and Blue the Caterpillar - feel very much like the Wonderlandian characters we all know and love, just a bit darker than usual. Others - like The Cat, Hatter Madigan, and Dodge Anders (Alice’s love interest, based on the Dodo, of all characters) - are radically different from the ones we know and love, but that’s kind of the point. The way the books mesh fantasy and history, tradition and new ideas, and so on really is one-of-a-kind, and it’s by far one of my favorite takes on “Alice” in general, and one that I wish more people knew about. I would love to see these books adapted to TV or cinema, or even to video games. Until that day, the stories stand on their own well enough. Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of the comic book spinoffs I mentioned, but the original novels are truly fantastic. Read this trilogy as soon as you can.

Hi! I've recently become a Rock Hudson fan and I love your blog. But there has been something bothering for a few days: I'm reading Mark Griffin's biography of Rock, "All That Heaven Allows", and in Chapter 9, he quotes Troy Donahue and two of Rock's best friends, George Nader and Mark Miller, as saying that everytime they say some blond hunk in his films, they knew that it was probably not his dramatic abilities that had landed him the part. From this, Griffin seems to infer that Rock held his own "casting calls" (Donahue says that Rock saw him as a "score" but he denies that he was intimate with him, and Mark Miller insists that Donahue personally "auditioned" for Rock). I don't know if the implication is that he took advantage of the casting couch, thus perpetuating the abuses of power and sexual violence he had suffered at the hands of Henry Willson, or if he simply got bit parts for guys he found attractive. It's troubling the hell out of me because I enjoy his work, but now I can't stop thinking about it and focus on the film I'm watching. What do you think?
hi, as i'm sure you're learning there's not many things that can be corroborated about rock’s life. he was deeply private--even w close friends, chunks of his life are forgotten to time, most sources of information about him are completely untrustworthy or dead or both, and like him his partners were often closeted and died that way. he might've engaged in casting couch harassment or he might've just gotten people parts bc they were together/he was attracted to them or it could be that neither is true. if you find one person telling a story about rock as fact you'll usually find another claiming it’s completely false. ik that kind of ambiguity can be difficult to accept, and i'm not trying to be blasé, but it’s wholly up to you on how you let that effect your viewing experience.
i want to include this as an addendum bc its important for the critical reading of any gay biog: you should try to be skeptical about how people word things about homosexual behavior from 60 years ago. biographers will often repeat things that perpetuate homophobic stereotypes bc of prejudicial sources without knowing that's what they're doing (or they’re fully aware and don’t care). an example: multiple biographies on monty clift have repeated this story: he liked bringing "young boys" to film sets so they could watch him perform <- a pretty gross implication until you find out it started bc one biographer used highly prejudicial phrasing to tell that story and monty was actually bringing his fully adult partners to set. people just cited the original phrase, implication and all, without ever bothering to dig any deeper. it's only been corrected over the years bc monty has a motivated and loving family looking after his legacy. not many gay people have that privilege.

Newsletter #55: The importance of James Kaliardos - more than a makeup artist
This week’s podcast was all about beauty news, and included a special section on the brilliance of makeup artist James Kaliardos. It all started with Lori Harvey getting ready for Vogue World on YouTube…
When IT Girl Lori looks over at her makeup artist, James Kaliardos, she simply introduces him as ‘James, my makeup artist.’ Which makes sense; Lori can afford the absolute best when it comes to her glam squad, and she does not owe anyone any credit, but I decided to use my podcast to create an extra episode, just so I could share a little information on James’ career, which began back in the 1990s.
I also created a TikTok on James and it’s received such good feedback from people who had either never heard of him before, or were glad to be reminded of his influence. Of course, there were a couple of comments saying that I’m unfairly ‘coming for Lori’ or ‘feigning annoyance’ and it’s not true at all. I was kind of annoyed, not at Lori - just at the missed opportunity.
It feels like, in 2022, information (often incorrect information at that) is shared without even a second being spent on adding a little context. When you’re in a position of influence, you have the ability to really celebrate someone’s work. In this instance, a high profile client is paying someone for a service and they don’t owe any public reviews or endorsements, but for me, James Kaliardos is highly influential, and not just in beauty. Here are just some of the reasons why…
New York-based James studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, where he focused on art history, photography, theatre and film, a decision which absolutely would have inspired him to go on to be one of the founders of the legendary Visionaire, a fashion-forward so-called experiential agency that produces films, events and publications. Launched in 1991 alongside Cecelia Dean and Stephen Gan, Visionaire has earned itself a reputation for highlighting the most interesting moments and people in fashion, art and film. They’ll often create these stunning themed issues with some costing as much as $1,000 and there was one special Louis Vuitton issue that went for $5,000.
Visionaire also launched one of my favourites, the highly influential V magazine in 1999, VMan in 2003 and former editor in chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book in 2012. In 2014 the initial trio split, so today Cecelia and James run the company and the title Visionaire, while Stephen retained V and VMan.
James is also highly respected in the beauty world, and is often the artist that brands either want to collaborate with on a new range, or have backstage creating catwalk looks. We’re talking MAC, Nars, Tom Ford, Fenty Beauty, Makeup Forever – the list goes on it comes to makeup launches that have changed the face of beauty.
He’s worked on movies, music videos and his work has been seen in publications from Vogue to Allure and his celebrity clientele has taken him from working with Madonna in the ‘90s to Miley Cyrus, and of course, Lori Harvey. I think it’s all down to James’ highly attuned editorial eye; he simply knows what works and he creates looks that are super impactful but never fussy or overly-done.
One thing I personally love about James’ style, is that he’s never been a fan of a prescribed idea of prettiness; as he said in a 2016 interview for thekit.ca, he’s always been more into the girls who look even better than pretty – it’s about looking interesting and that looks different on everyone. So that’s that on James; I just wanted to share a little bit about who he is, just in case you happened to see his work with Lori Harvey. Lori might be an It girl but James is IT when it comes to beauty and innovation.

What do you make of Sam currently being in LA?
There can be several reasons behind him continuing his stay in the US instead of coming to Ireland, comforting Cait and simply being with her in the difficult time. One only can speculate and make conjectures, and one’s attitude depends on the character of SC relationship they are most convinced of.
Personally, I didn’t expect he will come to Ireland. I had a few percent hope as “a margin for error” to be mathematically correct, but not more. I can imagine C asked S to continue his stay in America, make a few more appearances there, document them on his IG/TW and take advantage of the circumstances (very sad, though) to proof this way he has his own life independent of hers. There's too much at stake now; for instance, he could have been spotted by a random fan on his way back to the UK and a storm of speculations would have started immediately in SM; he could have been spotted on the funeral (which I don’t know if there had already been one or not) if he dared to come to, etc.
For C's narrative it's safer if S stayed in the US. The circumstances are very special and C wouldn’t put either herself or S at risk of unwanted speculations. Accordingly, in his IG live S didn’t allow any space for doubts and openly revealed his whereabouts (labels on the picture behind him; the hotel he’s staying in or only broadcasted his IG live from has been identified). He even admitted he’s going to Mexico soon (most probably tequila business). If he had gone to Ireland, stayed in a hotel, filmed his IG against a neutral white wall as a background and in the artificially lit room (not to reveal the time of a day and his time zone), it would be obvious he’s hiding his location and, again, speculations would explode. Revealing his whereabouts in America was the only way to cut off the discussion.
The relations between S and C are surely complicated, those between him and C’s family might be even more. Nobody knows what C’s family attitude towards the narrative is (if they are involved, who of them, to what extent, etc.). Hard to say if S would be welcome there during the hard time of mourning and grieving. It could be a reason too why he stayed abroad and why C dissuaded him from coming in order not to generate unnecessary tension in the family.
This is my take. Feel free to have your own.
-----------------------------------------------------------
A short supplement:
It’s a bit puzzling why S made his IG live in the middle of hiatus and his US holidays. Was it an absolute must to present the cover of his book now and in this specific form? I think it definitely wasn’t and he made this decision in a hurry during the last few days, after the sad news of C’s dad death had been announced (I’m sure he learned about it from the direct source and earlier than it appeared in SM). The informative goal of his IG live was secondary, the main one was to irrefutably prove he’s still in America, far away from his co-star, not going to come to Ireland. No photo on his IG could have done the trick better and been more convincing and believable – S often posts latergrams and people would have been suspicious anyway.

WHAT IS YOUR WRITING GENRE?
Before we get started with the descriptive genres we need to get familiar with some abbreviations used in book descriptions.
Abbreviations Used In Book Descriptions
I actually thought I was familiar with all the abbreviations used in book descriptions until I found this list. Some of these things I’ve never heard of before! They are often used by reviewers and some writers in book descriptions, so I think it behooves ignorant writers like me to at least know what they are.
PNR is the acronym typically used for paranormal romance: Shifters and vampires and mermaids and so much more. Shifters are people able to become various animals. Vampires are simply vampires. It depends on the writer whether they are good or bad. The one thing most of them seem to have in common is drinking blood or sometimes life essence. A few writers of fantasy like Ilona Andrews (husband and wife writing team) treated them as another species (theirs don’t drink blood).
PWF Paranormal Women’s Fiction. These books will have adventure, passion, and LIFE. And they’ll kick ass, just like all our books already do! We are not inventing books with 40+ heroines. We are hoping to define a place for them amongst other genres.
OTP: One True Pairing (that couple that you will root for till the end of time)

NOTP: (Pronounced No-TP) Basically the opposite of an OTP. You do not want this couple together!
BROTP/Bromance: A friendship (between guys) that you adore!
Ship: If you ship a couple, it means that you want them to get together (comes from the word “relationship”).

HEA: Happily Ever After

Book Boyfriend/Girlfriend: The fictional boy (or girl) you only wishcould be your real-life love.

Insta-love/Insta-lust: The phenomenon that happens all too often in books when the couple meets and instantly falls in love (or, sometimes, lust).

Love Triangle: When the main character can’t decide between two romantic partners—most frustrating when this is drawn out for multiple books in a series.

Slash Fiction: A type of fan fiction where two same-sex characters are paired together (often guys). Sometimes slash can just refer to the imagined pairing of two same-sex characters (not necessarily within fan fiction).

OMYM/OWYM: Older man, younger woman/Older woman, younger man
M/M Male/male romance
F/F female/female romance
RH reverse harem - typically one woman several men
MC: Main character (book is told from their POV).

POV: Point of view (the perspective that the book is told from).

POC/BIPOC: People of color/Black, Indigenous, and people of color

Daphne: A female character who has to be rescued all the time (in reference to Daphne from Scooby Doo)

Mary Sue: A character who is too perfect and/or too good which, strangely.

Manic Pixie Dream Girl: A type of female character depicted as vivacious and appealingly quirky, whose main purpose within the narrative is to inspire a greater appreciation for life in a male protagonist.

Twist: An unexpected event in a book—typically one that changes the direction of the plot or characters dramatically.
Info-Dump: When the author gives you lots of background information all at once via narration or dialogue.

Bechdel Test: a set of criteria used as a test to evaluate a work of fiction (such as a film) on the basis of its inclusion and representation of female characters. the term was popularized by American Cartoonist Alison Bechdel so it was named after her. Alison Bechdel never claimed to be the originator of the test. In fact, she never gave it a name. She credited her friend Liz Wallace for the idea, but also the work of author Virginia Woolf in her essay “A Room of One’s Own”.

Unreliable Narrator: A narrator whose POV is not trustworthy (could be due to lying, misinformation on the part of the MC, mental health or memory issues, etc.).
GT
Agent: a person who acts on behalf of an author, negotiating with publishers and promoters.
Alpha Reader
The first reader, usually a non-professional, who provides feedback on a writer’s work.
ANT
Antagonist: the adversary or competitor to the hero/protagonist of any story.
APS
Associated Press Stylebook: a writer’s and journalist’s reference manual for rules on grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations, and word and numeral usage.
ARC
Advance Reader Copy: free copy of a book given by a publisher to media, librarians, or other readers in advance of official publication.
ASIN
Amazon Standard Identification Number: Amazon’s unique identifier for each book they sell.
AU
Alternate universe: a fictional universe in which recognizable details are changed in order to create the story.
Beta Reader
A reader, usually non-professional, who provides feedback on a book after a writer has made revisions inspired by alpha readers.
BG
Bad guy: the Freddy Krueger, Lord Voldemort, or Darth Vader of your narrative.
BS
Backstory: history or background that occurs before the current events of a story.
Character Arc
The inner journey and transformation in personality of a character between the beginning and the end of a story.
CMOS
Chicago Manual of Style: a writer’s and editor’s reference manual for grammar usage, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations, and word and numeral usage.
Cont
Contemporary (genre): a genre that, although fictional, depicts realistic events that could happen in today’s society. An example: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
CP
Critique Partner: a writer who provides feedback on a fellow writer’s work.
Drabble
One hundred words that tell a story. Drabbles, because of their brevity, demand strong verbs, zero redundancies, and minimal showing. They usually require more time to write than longer stories.
F & SF
Fantasy And Science Fiction (genre): make-believe worlds and characters combined with narrative that is based on scientific principles. Think Star Wars by George Lucas, et al.
FF
Flash Fiction: very short fiction, usually containing fewer than 1000 words.
FN/Fant

GMC
Goal, motivation, conflict: important elements for engaging stories.
GN
Graphic Novel (genre): stories that are told using a combination of graphic panels and text. Although a graphic novel may be similar to a comic book in format, it usually encompasses an intriguing plot with character growth. Example: the Logan’s Run graphic novels by William F. Nolan, et al.
HC
Hardcover
Hook
An element that is unique to a story. Always memorable, it may also be controversial.
HR
Horror (genre): frightening stories that often include elements of fantasy. Examples: Children of the Corn by Stephen King and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe.
Indie
An independent writer who maintains creative control and who is not associated with a major publisher.
Juv
Juvenile (audience/genre): usually geared to children under twelve years of age. Example: Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White.
LI
Love interest
Logline
A brief summary, usually one sentence, that presents the main conflict or storyline, often combined with a hook to stimulate the interest of readers.

The Apt Pupils
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In one story in the comic strip Hagar the Horrible, by Chris Brownie, Hagar's son, Hamlet, asks his mother why the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west.  Helga, overwhelmed with house chores, tells him to stop bothering and go ask his father. When posed the question, Hagar does not falter and explains a long time ago only the gods were entitled to have light in the form a bright shining star while the mortals were compelled- even destined - to live in darkness.
One day a village man decides to steal the star from the gods, but is caught during the attempt. After deliberating, the gods decide to grant him the star but not without inflicting a harsh punishment. From that day on and for all eternity, he was sentenced to carry the star on his shoulder while running from east to west around the globe. Then, said Hagar, that is the reason the sun, the robbed star, always appears first in the east and sets in the west.
When Helga asks Hamlet if his father answered his question, he simply says, " No, he doesn't know either."
If only we could behave more like Hamlet, who craves knowledge and new discoveries but never relinquishes his ability to question an information and confirm its verisimilitude. See the brave new world through the lenses of the glasses given to Miguilim, rather than through a myopic blurred one provided by an ignoramus captain.
No doubt it is easier to be in a reality that fits one's ambitions, expectations, fears, mindsets, dogmas and idiosyncrasies; to anathemize the messenger than debate his ideas; to assassinate characters by spreading fallacies, and as fanatical simpletons to wave banners with messages (photos taken in 1959, but it could be today) conceived by sectarian catatonic minds, than flying over the cuckoo's nest and away from the grip of Nurse Ratchet.
But, for a moment, let's allow her – in fact all she symbolizes - to be our tutor and we, her apt pupils. It will be an opportunity for me to, as Hamlet, learn something…or not.
#1:” Paulo Freire, an educator and philosopher, fought to eradicate illiteracy among adults and formulated the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, based on people’s social conditions and history to contextualize the language to teach them to read and write while developing critical thinking, something good in real democracies. Since his methodology used people’s lifetime experiences, it could not teach - or as some patriots claim, indoctrinate - children.
Indoctrination should be associated with far-right and far-left dictatorships, influencers, French movie lovers, football fan’s organized groups, religious leaders, and social media.  A child’s life experience is still little, even if many have worked as adults, sought food in landfills and migrated in huddled boats and deadly caravans.
Answer: You are wrong. He was a Communist, period. Every student in every school should, after prayers, videotape teachers to inform on them and prevent the spread of subversive, atheist ideas.
#2: But isn’t informing on teachers a tactic used by the Gestapo, Stasi, NKDV, Securitate, KGB, Hitler’s Youth and Mao’s Red Guards? Besides, why is it ok to videotape teachers in classrooms but not ok to install cameras on police uniforms?  What about filming priests when left alone with children, for evidences have shown they can harm kids in far worse ways than a school syllabus.
Answer: Next Communist question, please.
#3: The 1964 Coup d’état succeeded because of several factors. First, the Cold War atmosphere prevailed; second, president Joao Goulart (the 1946 Constitution set voting for both president and vice-president separately; Milton Campos, the contender, was Janio Quadro's’ official running mate. Had he won, hardly ever would Janio tried a coup by resigning in 1961) was never a Communist, but a left-wing populist, a " getulista", whose erratic behavior, sectarian attitudes and irresponsible actions convinced even legalists, both military and civilians, to adhere to the coup to curb the political upheaval, never to implement a fascist regime; third, the conservative (nowadays reactionary) middle class, the Church and industrialists opposed Jango’s social reforms and really believed the country was heading towards communism (radical left-wing groups, people like Brizola and infiltrated right-wing agitators, trained by CIA, helped to contribute to this mindset). Finally, the military, who instituted the Republic through a coup, had tried to seize power in 1922, 1945, 1954, 1955, 1958 and 1961; 1964 was just the perfect storm.
After the coup, the military promised constitutional disrupt was temporary and kept the 1965 presidential elections. Then, it all went wrong. But not to the far-right wing branch of the military and their civilian lackeys. They overpowered Castello Branco, abolished popular elections for president, governors and mayors of capitals, exiled critics and opposers and first-time coup defenders like JK and Lacerda. When in 1968 even the Church, middle class and industrialists joined intellectuals, students and unions in huge demonstrations against the regime, they used the lame excuse of Congress not allowing the prosecution of a House representative to enact AI-5 that legitimized a Police State, one that also exists in Communist countries. Later they disregarded their own 1967 Constitution when the three military commanders, nicknamed the Three Stooges, arrested vice-president Pedro Aleixo, preventing him from being sworn in as president after Costa e Silva suffered a stroke, making him more mentally incapacitated than he already was. Then, the three gathered in an apartment in Copacabana and decided to use their intellectual abilities, despite military intelligence being an oxymoron, to write another Constitution, for, after all, they knew better how to keep power privileges.
Eventually, the FEBEAPA ( Stanislaw Ponte Preta) disrupt spawned for another 17 years, during which radical left-wing guerrillas fought not to reinstate democracy and Jango, but to implement a Communist dictatorship (read Combate nas Trevas, by Jacob Gorender), and also military and right-wing paramilitary groups fought to maintain the status-quo by acting as terrorists by plotting to explode the Gasometro and the Rio Centro Convention center, estimated to have resulted in tens of thousands of victims.
Is there a contradiction in defending the 1964 coup, the AI-5, and the military dictatorship and all the damage it entailed, socially, economically and politically, and at the same time preaching for freedom and democracy?
Answer: I don’t know what the word contradiction means.
#4: Why didn't the same indignant and revolted people in the demonstrations in the past gather again to protest and make choreographies and shout around a duck like mobs during public executions when the government was accused of COVID vaccine overprice, rachadinhas, the rigging of public offices and agencies, the use of Federal agencies for family and personal interests, fake news spread and attack on opponents, State property smuggling, collusion with militias, State ministers' association with Pentecostal pastors, illegal miners and timber loggers, money laundering, the Secret Budget, the purchase of properties (but not the Triplex) by the family in cash?
If Haddad had been elected and accused of not only of all of that, but a video showed his governments intents to disrupt the election and foster a revolution if he lost the election, how would the 'patriots" behave?
Had the other candidate been re-elected, would he, his military henchmen and supporters still doubt the electoral process even after its inner circle itself admitted to spreading fake news and not finding a single evidence the system was rigged?
If after the election results, instead of truck drivers blocking highways and bridges, terrorists planting bombs near airports, mobs making riots by burning vehicles and confronting police officers, people camping for weeks (don't they work, that used to be the motto) while blocking streets, marching like idiots and begging the military to intervene (its like fetish for people in uniforms), instead of pathetic infantile sectarian imbeciles wearing yellow shirts wrapped around flags, if, instead, there had been pathetic infantile sectarian people wearing red shirts and caps wreaking havoc and mayhem, what would their opinion be?
After storming into to official buildings, vandalizing the properties, including destruction of objects and defecation on furniture, participating in an attempt to overthrow a constitutionally elected government and mocking the institutions like criminal delinquents, they were appalled for being arrested for breaking the law (do you who you are talking to or why aren't you arresting street criminals?), horrified at the precarious sub-human conditions of our jails (seriously?), vehement to associate their arrest with draconian dictatorial measures (I thought they liked it) and not feeling any remorse or guilt, would they also condone the attitudes as legitimate if the other side had acted the same way?
No need to answer. It was never about ending corruption or fighting for democracy.
Just like Hamlet, one must learn to reason and not open the door to evil and expect to not to end up devoured by the ogres as happened with the American psychiatrist Douglas M. Kelley and Hermann Goring and the character in the movie The Apt Pupil and a former SS officer; both obsessed to understand how and why the most educated, law-abiding, and civilized people in Europe could have worshipped a deranged sociopath and enabled him and his inner circle of criminal delinquents, homicidal thugs and sycophants to transform them in a nation of murderers.
It is simple. All it takes is to start thinking collectively and accepting any explanation, even if it means believing in Hagar’s story.
