On December 25th in the year 1319 a two year truce between Scotland and England began.
This little known peace treaty is often overlooked, probably due to the Bruce’s government issuing the Declaration of Arbroath the following year.
After Bannockburn King Edward II of England never forgot his humiliation, and he threatened war against Scotland. The Bruce got there first, raiding south as far as York in a bid to capture prisoners to be held for ransom. Edward also had his troubles at home with a trebellion.
The King was also talking to some of the great Northern lords and it looked as if they would do a separate deal with the Bruce to stop him destroying their land. Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, was one of the rebel barons but paid for it with his life after the Battle of Boroughbridge was won by forces loyal to Edward.
Encouraged by ending the civil war in England, Edward came north with a great army, but Bruce deployed the same tactics he had used prior to Bannockburn, destroying anything that could be of use to the English, who were forced to retreat when famine and disease broke out.
In September 1319 The Bruce won a decisive battle at Myton in Yorkshire
Earlier that year Edward II had moved an army North and laid siege to Berwick in an attempt to recapture it from the Scots. In response the army of several thousand Scots, commanded by the Earl of Moray and the Good Sir James Douglas, bypassed the Northern town and marched through the north of England torching all in their path. Their secret objective lay in Edward’s court at York; where they hoped to abduct Edward II’s wife, the 21 year old Queen, Isabella. On September 20th 1319 they neared York and The Battle of Myton ensued.
The outcome of this unequal contest was never in doubt. Formed up according to their custom in a single division, the Scots uttered together a tremendous shout to terrify the English, the Highland charge began racing towards the men from York, who straightaway began to take to their heels at the sound.
The York contingent was an odd mixture of men thrown together to meet the emergency, including priests and monks losses were reported of 3,000, among them Nicholas Flemyng the city mayor.
For Edward II, already at odds with many English nobles, it was another disaster. Meanwhile the victorious Scottish army retreated back across the border into Scotland carrying their ill-gotten gains and prisoners.
Afterwards Edward was forced to raise the siege of Berwick and ultimately agreed to a two year truce.

I got too eager. I should keep reminding myself that I shouldn’t try to do ambitious long-form drawings for Inktober. I was stoked about this one because I really like this scene but I am not so delighted with the results. This one should have been in a “manuscript” style but time pressed me, not allowing me to fully realize what I had in my head. I stressed a bit (ok, a lot) over it but decided to wrap it up, regardless of what I think about the end result. Soo, uhhh, yeah, flavor text: Inktober Day 12 – Spicy “The story says that the Treaty of Adelia was signed in the small border village of the same name (now a flourishing town). Seeking shelter from the rain, the prince of Rel’Sev and the tzar of Dos signed the important document in a poor peasant’s hut. Not having much else to offer the aristocratic gentlemen, the peasant, who produced hot peppers for a living, provided them with a plate stacked with the spiciest peppers around. The hot pepper has since become a national symbol of Rel’Sev”

The parties in the conflict in Ethiopia’s northern region of Tigray agreed on a “permanent cessation of hostilities,” the African Union mediator said, [in November 2022,] just more than a week after formal peace talks began in South Africa.
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, in the first briefing on the peace talks on Wednesday, said Ethiopia’s government and Tigrayan authorities have agreed on “orderly, smooth and coordinated disarmament” along with “restoration of law and order,” “restoration of services” and “unhindered access to humanitarian supplies.”
The agreement marked a new “dawn” for Ethiopia, he said, speaking at a news conference.
The war, which broke out in November 2020, has pitted regional forces from Tigray against Ethiopia’s federal army and its allies, which include forces from other regions and from neighbouring Eritrea.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed hailed Wednesday’s breakthrough deal and committed to working towards the agreement.
“The commitment to peace remains steadfast. And our commitment to collaborating for the implementation of the agreement is equally strong,” he said in a statement.
Tigray’s rebels hailed the deal and said they had made concessions.
“We are ready to implement and expedite this agreement,” said the head of their delegation, Getachew Reda.
“In order to address the pains of our people, we have made concessions because we have to build trust.
“Ultimately, the fact that we have reached a point where we have now signed an agreement speaks volumes about the readiness on the part of the two sides to lay the past behind them to chart a new path of peace,” said Reda.”

Update: 1/25/23
Nearly three months after it was signed, the tentative peace deal between the Ethiopian government and leaders of the country’s northern Tigray region appears to be holding. Tigrayan forces have begun to disarm, basic services such as banking and telecommunications are being restored, and desperately needed humanitarian relief is making its way to Tigrayan civilians.
Although thorny questions remain about the presence of Eritrean forces in Ethiopia, the status of contested territory, and accountability for the severe human rights abuses that characterized the two-year conflict, the momentum is toward a reduction in violence.

January 24th January 1502 saw a “Treaty of Perpetual Peace” agreed between King James IV of Scotland and King Henry VII of England.
The peace turned out to be considerably shorter than “perpetual”. The treaty was to put an end to the intermittent warfare between Scotland and England which had been waged over the previous two hundred years. As part of the treaty a marriage was agreed between James IV and Margaret Tudor, the daughter of Henry VII.
It was broken in 1513 when James invaded England in support of the French who had lately been attacked by the English. The invasion was forced by Scotland’s obligation to France under an older mutual defence treaty, the Auld Alliance. The 1513 invasion by the Scots met with defeat, and James was killed at the Battle of Flodden.
Despite this the Treaty of Perpetual Peace had a long lasting effect because it led to the children of the marriage between James and Margaret, which eventually led to the Union of the Crowns. The picture shows the treaty, the borders of the document illustrate the thistle, the rose is that of The Tudors, and the marguerete representing the bride, Margaret

Reparations
If the Union (against slavery) winning over the Confederate (for slavery) had a Peace Treaty signed, war #reparations would have provided exclusive mandates:
1. limited compensation+the return of the slave to Africa.
2. the complete right of the ex-slave to live free in the USA.
