If The Flash had instead went with Patty becoming Barry's main love interest, I would have been okay with it.
They changed the main love interest for the Green Arrow to be Felicity. Usually it's the Black Canary for him.
Sometimes it's nice to do things different from the comics time to time.

And one last round of concept art for the Flash game.
The first picture includes Barry's fellow police scientist Patty Spivot, Barry's punctuality-obsessed boss Darryl Frye, and Officer Fred Chyre.
The second picture is of Albert Desmond, his wife Rita, and Mr. Element (one of Albert's costumed alter egos).
The final picture is of one of the many, many hardships of Albert's life: his evil "psychic twin", Alvin Desmond, who runs around as Dr. Alchemy and likes to frame Albert for his crimes. His exceptionally pointy ears and fingers are due to the fact that Alvin isn't human, but rather a simulacrum created by the Philosopher's Stone.

Imagine having a loaded gun being held towards you and then telling you not to move and saying “your under arrest.” Why would your initial thought be let me say “Gimme that-” to a cop…?

Lace's Official Ranking of Couples from The Flash
10: Barry and Patty
Patty was surprisingly pleasant for a Temporary Love Interest Before The Big One. She's sweet, she's sharp, she's dorky, she's got great style, and she has a bit of that golden retriever energy that matches well with Barry's. They're really cute together (aside from that one weird kiss—iykyk), and they were almost a great couple. Almost. Patty does fall victim to the girlfriend-is-put-out-with-superhero-boyfriend-for-keeping-secrets trope, but considering how much Barry sucks at coming up with excuses, you can't even really fault her for that, because she actually put up with a good deal more than she needed to.
Patty's time on the show was cut short due to Andrew Kreisberg being a petty bitch, and Patty and Shantel both deserved better than the rushed exit storyline that she got. I'm not saying I necessarily wanted her to stay longer, 'cause I for one was ready to hurry things along with Westallen, but she did deserve more, and their breakup could have been handled better. I'm glad that she wasn't killed off or made to be a raging bitch, though. She actually did get a much better send-off than a lot of temporary love interests on TV shows get, and that's honestly pretty sad.
