Saw Patrick Wolf at the Lafayette on Monday and it was everything I could have wanted (and more, as they say).
I had been looking forward to that concert for literally years. I thought I would never see him live again. So being there on Monday was extraordinary.
I easily made first row without breaking a sweat and I met so many lovely people in the pit. Patrick just has the best fans.
A definite highlight was Dodona ( I just realise there's a typo on the setlist), it's become one of my fave songs. The Magic Position was great as always and the version of Wind in the Wires was very special.
It wouldn't have been Patrick if the evening wasn't fraud with a bit of chaos and the looming threat of disaster about to happen though 😅😂 the harp fell, and a couple of other instruments were close to toppling over.
The cable kept wrapping around the monitors and microphone stand, so watching it was nerve wracking...
He also pranced around a lot and the stage was tiny (he likened it to being in an antique shop and I think that is fitting 😜. I needed to save my mobile from being stepped on several times and the man next to me ducked out the way of the harp...
Patrick was so amazing. Over the last couple of months he battled his way back onto stage and now he's back and he owns his live concerts in a way he didn't before. I almost forgot what kind of presence he has on stage, after witnessing all these intimate studio sessions. (He's also freakishly tall...)
Still buzzing here. Best night, ever.
(Patrick Wolf, live at Lafayette, London, 24th of April, 2023, pls don't reuse my pics)

patrickwolf yesterday was a wonderful wave i wished to appear on my birthday, I wanted the first day of my 40th year on earth to be one doing what I intend to do for the next decade and that is being proudly and surely at the helm of my craft and vocation. the week leading up to the 30th of June begins with my clean and sober birthday too, so age now arrives with a beautiful sense of growth, gratitude and revelation in my world.
Thankyou to all who came to the sunbow ball out on the sea and to all you faithful architects out there across the world who help make and support this house i dream, i work, i conjure in
all the love in
this
world
x

After 2005’s Wind in the Wires, a romantic tribute to escaping to the wild Cornish coast, Wolf’s third record, The Magic Position, his first for a major label, was the start of a journey that embraced mainstream pop but resulted in him losing all sense of his artistic identity. Management and A&R people became “authority figures” who interfered with his vision, especially on 2011 album Lupercalia: “You lose your primary colours,” he says. “If I think about Lupercalia now, it’s like hands around my neck.”
Standing out started to be a curse as Wolf became “spiritually exhausted” with the media’s focus on his sexuality and appearance. “I spent a lot of time saying ‘Look at this album that I’ve made’, and everyone else going: ‘Flamboyant!’” he recalls. “But that’s just how I looked; my sexuality was just who I was.”

"Enchanted, enchanted
This magical place that we've found
No one here but us and the sound
Of the stars and the night owls
Your breath and the rolling clouds
Enchanted, I am, by you
Now love has come to me
And set apart thee
From all of the maddening crowds
The orchard is leaning her boughs
To hear our laughter
And we roll in the ardor
Enchanted, I am, by you
Enchanted, I am, by you"
Recently I found myself listening to more Patrick Wolf again and came across this song which felt quite Gale-coded to me. I am no galemancer myself (though logically speaking I should be, no idea why I'm not), but I feel like all my Gale-girlies (gender-neutral) out there might appreciate this song (if they don't already know it). You're welcome. Or, sorry, if I'm wrong.

Some concert pics from last night's Patrick Wolf concert. I decided to make my first post private, it feels rather personal. So have some pics instead. Amazing concert.
Cheeky, smirky Patrick.
The harp was gaffered to the stool 😂
I had an amazing first row spot at the side. No chance of getting stepped on this time, though 😂
