Cap slowly becoming a dad to Daley owns my whole heart. Sharing their special interests with each other and info dumping, going on missions (errands) together, Cap helping him with homework and giving him advice. Daley cuddling up to and falling asleep on Cap during movie night because he feels safe in his presence. Both of them being part of make Pat Butcher feel loved and appreciated club, especially on days where Pat’s still having a hard time with the divorce. Cap and Daley’s relationship is special and deepens in time. Cap cries the first time Daley calls him Da.

I like to imagine that pat has tattoos. not a lot, just one or two small ones. Maybe he got one as a teenager that's a bit cringey or in a slightly embarrassing place, and maybe he got one impulsively on holiday, Daley's birthday on his arm or across his knuckles

love the idea of a young daley having carol and morris and pat and cap as parents and not thinking anything of it like to other kids on the playground "what do you mean you don't have 3 dads? who takes you to karate when one of them is at work?" and also having the strangest mix of dialects like all the northern slang and accent of the butchers but now that cap's in the mix he's being inundated with weird cap-specific mannerisms like the "good lord" and the throat clear and the noises like "ah yes well aehahuh very good" but he's 8 so everyone at school is like. what the fuck is going on. why do you talk like that.

I always picture Daley more jumpier than Pat, and Rachel just as much of a wildcard as Julian. So Daley gets dragged along on her politician adventures sometimes, utterly mortified by her. Rachel’s tipping pigs blood into someone’s fuel tank while Daley sweats through his clothes sitting on guard

julipat idea i had earlierrrr

divorced dad julian currently has custody of rachel, and her local brownies group disperses / is shut down. so instead, julian approaches the local scouts group and gets her in that instead. que julian turning back up every now and then to make sure rachel isnt being bullied etc, and que pat - the over helpful scout leader - talking julian as often as possible to update him on how rachel's doing.

(none of the boys are mean about rache getting in btw. she can beat them all in a figgt, and they're much more interested in seeing julian be oblivious and their beloved skipper fail badly at flirting)

rachel and daley become besties obviously (esp since pat asked him to keep an eye on her in case any of the boys were mean) so of COURSE pat and julian have to meet more often outside of scouts for playdate reasons

my guess for the christmas episode is basically that daley (assuming thats who this is, given its a pat centric episode and we've got a guy in scouts uniform) is at button house to run scouts stuff and alison spends the whole episode trying to get him to not die. pat's identity crisis comes from seeing daley do well with the scouts and not dying, leading him to wonder about his own leadership skills.

I'm going to pretend like there was intentional parallels in Pat parenting Daley and Cap parenting Kitty in the Christmas special because I need to be more insane in the coming year

🔀- Canon Divergence/Slight AU

After his dad died, Daley thought he would never see him again. He missed him fiercely, especially on those days when they went back to Button House to pay their respects to him. It felt like his dad was right there, just out of reach, and Daley wished he could talk to him just one last time and tell him how much he loved him.

His wish was granted when he was twenty and walking through a park one day. A football came out of nowhere and hit him in the head, and when he woke up a week later he was able to see ghosts. It took a while to get used to it - to not react to the Roman soldier waving at him on the street or the little boy who was haunting the neighbour's garden shed and had obviously died of the Plague.

When his dad's Death Day came around again Daley thought he was ready. He prepared himself for the worst - there was no reason to think his dad had become a ghost, after all. But then his dad came running out of the house, smiling and looking just like Daley remembered him, and Daley laughed through his tears and said, "He's here, Mum! He's here!" and, "I've missed you so much, Dad!" and, "I love you."
