Sidekick Journal Setup
Wanted to make some notes on how I set up the newest version of my sidekick journal. It's still an A6 Leuchtturm 1917 notebook- though this time I'm using a dot grid, not ruled, version. Still using a Traveler's Notebook Monthly insert in the back as well. Past that, I've adapted it to loosely use the PARA framework by Tiago Forte that I've had luck using with my digital notes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Much like last time, I still have a today card for tasks on the front. Some days I pick some out at the beginning. Some days I just write things down as I go. Not much has changed there.
It's worth noting that this journal springs open if I don't keep the strap on it. I use the strap to notch in a gel pen (currently trying to find one of my spare fountain pens to use instead). I don't personally mind this but I know it bugs some others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the back side of the front cover, things have changed more. I still have a next card to jot down tasks that don't need done today that come up throughout a day, but underneath is the P in PARA - projects.
Each project gets it's own card. I like this because things were getting lost in my notebook and I can more easily see what I've committed to so I don't overcommit. Tiago Forte recommends 10-15 projects but I am disabled and have issues with energy so I shoot for 5-10. I think currently I have 9 which is a little on the high side.
They all fit nicely under the black clip here and I can shuffle through them each day to see what I want to work on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a To Read, To Watch, To Listen (podcasts), and To Listen (music). I occasionally have people recommend me things and they tend to get lost in my phone. So this is just a space to jot those down. My complete TBR is still kept in Storygraph atm. My TBW is on Letterboxd (kind of). I don't listen to a lot at the moment but I'm hoping to change that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the first A in PARA - Areas - I set up topical indexes. I know a lot of people tend to have a lot more but I group my stuff under Personal, Home, Work, and Ria (my partner). Personal is just me. Home is anything shared with Ria. Work is mostly writing and freelance projects at the moment. Ria is for anything that is just for Ria. Anything that doesn't fit in the categories goes in the main index that comes preset up in the notebook.
This way I can jot down whatever notes I want in this notebook but when I'm looking for something specific or just want to see what's going on in a given area, I can flip to that index.
Tumblr media
This is just an example of the kinds of things I tend to use this notebook for. I did a menu plan and wrote down the order of steps to make a new dish I wanted to try (came out really nice). It's mostly to just order my thoughts and help my brain let go of things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the Traveler's Notebook Passport Size Monthly Insert I really enjoyed last year. I've set up the first few months and will set up a few more. I need to go back in and add events/holidays.
A big reason why this still felt necessary is that I'm looking at switching to a dumbphone which means I won't necessarily have access to Google Calendar on the go. So I plan to keep this as up to date as possible. I might use it for some light memory keeping as well.
Tumblr media
Lastly, I flip the notebook upside down from the back and this is where my commonplacing will go which will be how I manage the R in PARA - resources. I have 3 categories I tend to like jotting down information about to start with but there's room for more. I won't keep the markers with me but will periodically add circles for ease of reference.
For the last A in PARA I'm planning on storing these in a nice box when I'm done with them.
I don't really intend to journal in this though I suppose I could. I have a separate "bullet journal" that in all honesty I don't use super often. I do stream of consciousness journaling on 750words.com. It's mostly to jot down notes and get things out of my head quickly. I like that it's small enough to toss into most bags.
Hope this is interesting to someone!

The pandemic gets me down and makes me feel like extended concentration hurts (also, hi ADHD). I used to do these massive quilting projects where I'd hyperfocus, but lately I just ain't got it with managing all the other stuff, so this is my little art project. I get three lines, a typewriter I picked up at some random antique store with an old tape and sticky keys. No do-overs, and it comes out how it comes out. I'll add sketches if the spirit moves, starting in pencil and then over the top with fountain pen. I don't tie myself to doing it every day, so I'll do a bunch at once if I fall behind. Then I snip and paste into my passport size traveler's notebook.

A while back I bought a Traveler’s Notebook and have been loving my little passport size. At the moment, I mostly use it as a sketchbook/notebook and reading journal.

If you can’t tell, I’ve also reawakened my love for Lord of the Rings too recently. Middle school/high school me is going nuts right now. 😂
I can’t wait to travel with this little guy!

I love my Traveler’s Notebooks! I had a passport sized one for around a year but only used it properly the past few weeks. I loved it so much that I bought the standard sized one, as the passport size is a little small for my scribbles. The charms i got today are also really nice; they’ve handmade out of paper, from TortieAndTuxie on Etsy.

@randomtangle answering your reply in a post, because I have a lot of words to say about notebooks lmao.
So, quick answer first: I'm using a 2023 Hobonichi Weeks, which is a weekly planner. You can buy them from the Hobonichi website here, from Jetpens, or also Amazon.
I'm using the Weeks for a couple of reasons;
It's what Sean McCoy set up in the initial dungeon23 post!
I like the format of the notebook! The way that the weekly entries are one side, and a blank grid on the other is well suited to dungeon23 entries. The daily entries are also compact, meaning I focus more on getting something done rather than extraneous details.
I already liked Hobonichi as a brand, and the paper is very nice. The Weeks uses a super thin, but still fountain pen friendly kind of paper. I like to write with fountain pens (because they're fun) and the super thin paper keeps the notebook itself very compact. It is deceptively thin!
So for me, the Weeks ticks all the boxes! If you have the cash to burn on a fancy notebook, highly recommend them. That being said! The Weeks are a tad on the pricier size compared to similar planners (its a combo of the high quality, but also some of it is definitely branding).
If you're looking for something with a similar format to the Weeks, but you don't need the particular paper quality, searching for different weekly planners on amazon or etsy (or honestly just google Hobonichi Weeks dupes, or weeks planner)will turn up plenty of cheaper options.
Midori makes similarly formatted weekly planners, though they have cardstock covers and one planner doesn't cover a whole year (you'd need two). they're designed to work with their Traveler's Notebooks covers, but would work totally fine as just little notebooks! They also have very nice quality paper, and are in the same format as the Weeks (you'd want the standard size over the passport size, as a heads up).
The heart of dungeon23 is really just getting out there and writing! So you don't need a fancy notebook (I've seen people using all sorts and also going digital). But I do think a fancy notebook is fun. But I also like notebooks 😅

👛  — personal effects!  - For Chrome!
headcanons ; rainbow series ... (purple/pink)
👛— personal effects! for a headcanon about what my muse keeps on them (in their bag or similar carry item), and why they always have these things on their person day-to-day.

Trident :: Chrome keeps a portion of Mukuro's trident in her bag. It has since turned into a spear for the final arc in the manga. I would like to think Mukuro has a separate one made for himself as both people are of different heights and weights. Chrome excels more in evasion and Mukuro excels in strength. I like to think of these two as two sides of the same coin, or yin-yang inverted. Chrome is what Mukuro wants to be but cannot and vice versa. It has since become a bident (canon divergence on my part), which is the weapon used by Hades or Pluto, ruler of the Underworld. It symbolizes Chrome growing into her own as a person, and being someone both the Vongola and Mukuro can rely on.
Mist Ring & Box Weapon :: Chrome is the keeper of the Mist Ring unless Mukuro has need of it and the box weapon. To me, they are both the Guardian of the Mist. I think Mukuro thinks it is better in her care, and he can communicate with her through the Mist Owl (Mukurou) as needed. As for Chrome, she will give them to Mukuro so he can perform his own duties as the other half of the Guardian of the Mist. Chrome has other tricks up her sleeve since the last chapter of the manga.
Coin Purse :: I think it's a little owl plush, because of Mukurou/Mukurowl. She replaced the right eye with a red one to make it more accurate. When she was younger, Chikusa and Ken bought her a chrome skull wallet because they did not know nor did they care at first what Chrome's tastes were. She eventually purchased a black cat wallet with her allowance.
Black Cat Wallet :: I want to think it was a black cat she saved as a thirteen-year-old. So, she got it to commemorate the cause by which she eventually met her chosen family. She still loves cats, but she still gets some anxiety while crossing the street at intersections. She replaced the right eye with an eye patch. She calls it "Kuroneko". It carries her passport as well.
Pineapple Cell Phone Holder :: Ken bought it for her along with Chikusa and while she dislikes the fruit, she can't bear the thought of hurting Ken and Chikusa. So, she's kept it in mint condition. She thought it was adorable that Ken tried to make an eye patch for one of the Pineapple's eyes.
Keychain & Keys :: She has several keys with various coverings on them. One is for her self-storage space, which she sometimes uses as an apartment to Tsuna's horror. It has a tunafish rubber covering on it just for that. She has a master key to all of the Kokuyo Gang's hideouts, naturally. It is unassuming with its black cat key covering. She drives a Subaru, so she has a star key covering. She has a master key for hideouts to the Vongola which is hidden in her pocketbook or tote bag.
Tablet or Notebook/Mini Laptop :: For communications.
Pen & Notepad :: For writing notes.
Sentimental Circus Make-Up Bag :: She got this from M.M., and has kept it cause it was the first (begrudging) gift from M.M. Chrome keeps her cosmetics in this bag. She thinks the twin bunny mascots and everyone else are like the Kokuyo Gang, so she's taken a liking to the stationery mascot.
Oracle Deck & Tarot Deck :: For the funsies...
Travel-sized Ouija Board Keychain :: Just to horrify her friends. I'm sure Mukuro would like to burn it too...

It’s a Traveler’s Notebook passport sized undated monthly insert. I had to trim the back cover to get it to fit and it sticks out a little bit but it does the job.
It seems like the spine on this notebook is coming unglued a little but I also have had that happen on other notebooks I didn’t have as much stuff in and it never impacted being able to use them. It can be a little tough to use the note pages without removing the binder clip but it’s mostly fine. And also I can just remove the binder clip, no big.
I’ve been using this system for a month now and I’m really digging it. I like that I can just toss a task list if I get part through the day and it doesn’t align anymore. I like that it’s mostly to remind me what I thought sounded good and not necessarily to track every task I think I need to do.
Other materials pictured:
Leuchtturm A6 Lined Notebook in Black (going to switch to dotted though)
Faber-Castell Loom Fountain Pen with F nib
Birmingham Pen Co Ink - Ohio River
Generic brand notecards - 3 x 5
