hugging and gently holding the other’s head for whoever strikes your fancy?
AO3 Hug Prompts
Another very old prompt out of the way Lucas and Jonny are being soft must be a day with a Y in it @the-passenger-if
He’s cute when he’s asleep.
And Jonny would probably argue with him but he’s also cute when he’s awake.
Lucas finds himself again lost in taking in all the details of Jonny’s face. He sighs softly and dares to gently brush a lock of Jonny’s brown hair away from his forehead, and Jonny doesn’t stir.
He doesn’t want to move, not yet.
And it’s not as if he could right now anyway.
Jonny’s long limbs are wrapped pretty tightly around him. And Lucas does feel a bit like a fly cocooned by a spider at this moment. But he’s content to submit himself to this fate and he won’t be going, “Help me, help me,” anytime soon. And maybe if he was a bit more awake he’d be able to turn the concept of being caught by a spider into something more romantic.
He gently runs his fingers through Jonny’s hair as he sleeps. He shifts slightly and makes a soft, muffled sound that Lucas can’t deny is downright adorable and doesn’t do anything to dampen the so sweet it’s almost sickly rush of affection that’s going through him.
He may only be able to feel a fraction of what he could feel if he transcended this form, this casket is so restrictive still even if he’s probably as powerful as he’s ever been and this is not enough, never enough. But also what he feels now fills every part of his body, this mere casket is so much it’s overwhelming. There’s just something about how deep this ability to feel goes that he wouldn’t trade for anything.
(Maybe that’s part of why he wants to stay on this tiny speck in the universe so much, yeah he might not be able to experience )
He’s not quite sure how long he lies there as he doesn’t so much bathe in this sheer joy as willingly drown in it before Jonny starts to stir.
Jonny gives another muffled sound, this one is not quite as soft, it’s some sort of groan. But honestly even that to Lucas is downright adorable.
“Mornin’” Lucas drawls.
Jonny mumbles something back that sounds like “Morning,” as he looks at Lucas slightly bleary eyed and that does nothing to help dampen that sweet, almost sickly rush of affection.
And then he feels Jonny tense, as he looks away for a moment “I-”
Lucas reaches out and gently rubs his back and that seems to work as Jonny relaxes again.
“Jonny?”
He sighs, his voice low and thick with sleep “This… feels weird,” “Weird?” Lucas gently tucks a lock of hair behind Jonny’s ear.
Jonny sighs, “I… I mean not in a bad way, it’s nice just… weird,”
“Me holding you?”
“Yeah… You don’t mind?”
“Why would I?” Lucas grins softly, “Only fair right? You are my boyfriend,”
“Boyfriend,” Jonny sighs, but it’s a soft wistful thing, “That’s also going to take a while to get used to,” He gives one of those signature snorts. And honestly that combined with a barely there smirk doesn’t really do anything to provide any counter to Lucas’ allegations of ‘You’re actually fucking adorable’.  “Apparently all that weird shit about you being an alien-”
“Hey,” Lucas playfully sighs as they playfully swat Jonny on the nose, “We went through this, I’m not an alien, I’m a cosmic horror thank you very much,” He shakes his head, “And you call yourself a horror aficionado, shocking,”
Jonny chuckles, not the snort, an actual chuckle and oh that further stokes this sensation that’s turned into euphoria by this point “It’s just…. funny how all that weird shit is easier to accept than the fact I came out of all that with a boyfriend,”
Lucas presses a kiss to Jonny’s forehead as he gently places a hand around the back of his head and Jonny sighs. “I don’t want to get out of bed yet,”
“Good,” Lucas grins.

Got tagged by @georgiedoesntfloat to make OCs in this picrew
So I made my most notable MCs from my favorite games
The Scarlet triplets Noi, Noah, Nova from Scarlet Hollow [They\Thems]: Noi acts prickly and offputting to push away other people, though never crosses the line of being a geniune asshole. Deep inside they care a lot, are fussy and anxious, and want to help people. Will stab you with no remorse if you piss them off though. Noah is a himbo, they're buff, stupid, and kind. Because of their natural charm and outgoing personality, they experienced little hardship as there are a lot of people willing to help them out, it's almost supernatural. Nova on the other hand keeps being backstabbed. They fall in love (romantically and platonically) easily, and often falls in love with wrong people. Has dubious morals
The Newman twins Ash and Lucas from The Passenger IF [They\Them, and He\Him]: Ash is charismatic and outgoing. Everything they do, the way they act, the way they dress - everything is to obtain as much social capital as possible. They don't feel any connection to the body they inhabit, they don't care about other people, they hate it here. But they like being liked, so they assume a nice and warm persona. Lucas on other hand is imposing and cold on the outside, but they have a deep love for the world and its inhabitants. He's extremely chill and just wants to vibe.
A single child Emmet from The Fallen Hero IF [They/Them]: Emmet is a selfish asshole. Sardonic, sarcastic, loves to poke fun and go against the grain. Though they don't like seeing people in geniune distress or pain, even if they don't care about them they try not to hurt anyone
I'll tag: @skullchicken @miss-grey @awkwardinot

a trio of boys(two of them gender neutral), Roach, Lucas Newman (MC), and Jonny E, from @the-passenger-if
I like 'em short, I like 'em tall, and this game gave me both lol, I love it. Also, if you describe a character as short or tall, I'll go an extra mile to make them extra short or extra tall. This is gonna be a ref sheet for future doodles hopefully

PERSONALITY
One of the most hard-working, compassionate people that you will ever meet, Cage is a family guy at heart. His son means the world to him, and he would do anything to provide for and protect him. He can overdo it sometimes, having been hauled home by his big brother from a few parties, but has mellowed out in his ‘old age’ as he puts it. He’s a bit of a charmer and loves a good adventure, longing for a bike ride up the coast over a trip to a resort, and you can find him more often gardening out back than binge watching TV.
WRITTEN BY: Katie (she/her), est.
BACKGROUND / BIO
TRIGGERING / SENSITIVE CONTENT: death, parent death.
Cage Lucas Newman was born on March 17, 1986 into what was once a small family – his mother, father and big brother. That changed over the years, but the love that remained between them all did not. The Newmans were known for their blueberry farm in Merrock, and spent their summers working shoulder to shoulder harvesting the crop for local farmers markets and to be sent out to stores around the area. His mother died when he was quite young, which made his siblings incredibly protective over baby sister, Clementine, who never had the chance to know her mother. He and Kellan, his oldest brother, have always been close.
A good kid for the most part, Cage did alright in school, mostly focused on athletics and shop class, both of which he excelled at. Although he was a huge flirt, he did have a quite serious relationship with fellow Merrockite, Cordelia Browning, with most people thinking they would get married and have babies after graduation, as was the small town way. Instead, he packed his bags and sought out adventure, traveling coast to coast and putting the skills he developed in that shop class to work in construction, building new houses as he went. While on the road, he met and befriended Lexi, the two beginning a physical relationship that lasted about as long as his job at that particular site did before he moved on to the next. Not long after, he ran into some financial hardships and was forced to return home, after a lot of begging and pleading from his father and older brother.
The inevitable happened when Cage returned to Merrock; Lexi showed up at his doorstep, telling him that she was pregnant, the baby was his, and he needed to help. Although they made a solid go of it at home on his family’s blueberry farm, welcoming Colton Lee – affectionately known as Colt – into the world in October of 2009, Lexi left before his first birthday, leaving Cage with full custody and a number to reach her by in case of emergency. While being a single father wasn’t the world’s easiest job, Cage did his best to raise Colt in a loving home with his siblings and father, even settling into his own new relationship, marrying a local girl not long after they met in what he hoped would be a whirlwind romance to show his family that he could be serious and settle down. The predicted ending happened, when talks of babies and really, actually settling down began to get serious, and the two quietly filed for divorce.
With his second failed relationship and attempt at the perfect family life under his belt, Cage decided to take off, buckling Colt into the passenger seat of his old rattle-trap truck, their only goal to see the country from coast to coast, spending the entire summer together. However, it was on the back leg of that trip that Cage got the call that his father wasn’t doing well, that he should return home to spend some time at the farm. Although the diagnosis was terminal, and the future looked bleak, Cage returned to his father’s side, anxious to make sure that his remaining time was full of love and happiness.
After his father’s passing, the inheritance was split between the kids, with the estate being left to all of them to decide what to do with the land, and how to run the family business. With his chunk of money, Cage purchased a small farmstead just out back of the estate with a house large enough for himself and Colt (and the myriad of animals they had plans to fill the old barns with), and a shop space at Hideaway Market, opening a wood-working business that has recently dipped its toes into restoration of old houses and businesses around Merrock, determined to make sure that a lot of the original, classic features of their town couldn’t be forgotten or replaced with the shiny newness it has seen in the last several years.

Note
I love the Artbreeders you did of your MCs and was wondering if you had any written descriptors of them like how tall they are and pronouns.
I actually don't have any listed because Tumblr is a bitch and makes editing that page a pain in the ass - stuff doesn't save sometimes or gets deleted. But I can list everyone below for you along with their perspective fandoms!
DREW KENDALL - he/him - The Wayhaven Chronicles
5'11 with honey-blond hair and hazel eyes, tanned skin and a faint scar that looks suspiciously like a bite mark on his neck (as of Book 1 ending) He has an athletic build from combat training at the Agency and cinnamon-colored freckles scattered across his torso and nose.
JUDE BELLAMY - he/him - Fallen Hero
6'0" with messy dark blond hair and icy green eyes made brighter by dark circles from sleepless nights. Brightly orange tattoos stand out against a classic ivory complexion and numerous scars across an average build.
MATTHEW WISEMAN - he/him - Mind Blind
5'11.5" with dark auburn hair and blue eyes just like his brother. However, unlike Nick, countless freckles dot his suntanned skin, while plush lips are almost always set into a lopsided grin.  Most of his height is in his torso.
HAL KYRILU - he/they - The Exile
6'2" with an imposing figure, dark brown curls that fall to his broad shoulders in a nearly-black mess, and piercing blue eyes like those of a wolf hybrid.  When shifted into his mythosi form, his those eyes turn to an amber gold.
THOMAS INLESS-BOOTH - he/him - The Golden Harp
5'11, olive skin, caramel-brown hair that shines gold in the sunlight, and brown eyes make up a seemingly average man with an aquiline nose and long dark lashes.
TYLER PARISH - he/they - FTM!trans - Body Count
5'8" frame housing a ball of barely contained energy.  His skin is a porcelain color with scars from gender reassignment surgery still faintly visible on his chest.  Baby blue eyes sparkle with mischief beneath a curtain of hair dyed platinum blond and brushed to give an envious healthy volume despite obviously being chemically treated.
MITHRAS TAYRAN - he/they - A Tale of Crowns
6'1" with golden eyes that stand out against caramel skin and raven-black hair that falls in thick luxurious waves over his pierced ears.  He has a lean build made more athletic by years on the run, muscles defined and bronzed from the sun.
EMMA THOMPSON - she/her - Speaker
5'5" makes Emma the shortest on this list, but her petite build hides a very capable woman who can take care of herself easily, despite what her sweet face says.  Like her brother Noah, she has grey eyes and strawberry blond hair, though hers falls in heavy waves down to her waist.
NOAH THOMPSON - he/him - Speaker
5'8" gives Noah a few extra inches on his twin sister.  His strawberry blond hair is cut short enough to just fall into his gunmetal gray eyes, accompanied by skin the color of sand.
LUCAS DONOVAN - he/him - The Fernweh Saga
6'2.5″ makes him mostly legs with freckles and beauty marks scattered across his skin.  Lucas is a true ginger and has a trusting face that almost always has a polite smile gracing his lips, and his sky blue eyes give him the demeanor of a gentle giant with an artist’s hands, fingers often stained grey from his pencil sketchings.
AEDAN RHYS - he/him - Fallen Lights
5'10" with a swimmer’s build, grey eyes that appear to change colors from blue to green depending on the light, and long golden-brown hair that falls to his shoulders.  Though he shaves daily, he has a permanent stubble along his chin and upper lip.
DAMIEN NEWMAN - he/they - The Passenger
5'9" means he didn’t get the height he would have had before he took over his casket, but what he lacks in intimidation, he makes up for with piercing sea green eyes that seem brighter under his floppy red-brown hair.
CREODA VENEGUARD - he/they - The King's Hound
6'2" makes him a very intimidatingly presence, especially accompanied by icy steel blue eyes.  His long dark brown hair is meticulously groomed, but manages to maintain a fashionably messy appearance that some would consider attractive were it not for his trademark glower.
RAFAEL “RAFE” ROJAS / OPERATIVE HELIOS - he/they - Project Hadea
5'9" with olive skin, dark blue eyes that are nearly as black as his hair, and faint stubble lining his square jaw.  He’s got a lean athletic build ideal for an infiltration specialist and surprisingly nice hands.

I wanted to draw some Jonny stuff, and thus I needed my second Newman. At first I wanted to draw some cute twink, but then decided that using Lucas as a base and making Ash his evil twin was funnier.
Then, since I'm already drawing "twins", why not draw Jonny's?
And then! Since I'm already drawing older siblings, why not draw Livvy?
(that's how they getcha)
So, behold! My versions of Livvy and Ash Newman (They\Them), and Quino E from @the-passenger-if . All around good boys and girls. Compare Ash and Quino to Lucas and Jonny from This Post

La La Land Leads The 2017 Oscar Nominations
Better get your tux to a dry cleaners, pronto – it’s Oscar time again. The nominees for the 89th annual Academy Awards have been announced, and as expected, razzle-dazzle old-school musical La La Land has come out on top with a record-equalling 14 nominations. Hot on its toe-tapping heels are cerebral alien sci-fi Arrival and generational urban drama Moonlight, which both earned six nominations apiece.
Tumblr media
There were nine Best Picture nominations this year – a category that can be anywhere from five to ten – with a diverse list that included a Western (Hell Or High Water), a war movie (Hacksaw Ridge), a sci-fi (Arrival).
Perhaps in response to last year’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy, there was plenty of recognition for films with more diverse casts or stories, most notably Moonlight, Hidden Figures and Fences.
During a characteristically chin-scratching pre-recorded announcement video (never let it be said the Academy doesn’t know how to string something out) a series of previous winners were recruited to introduce the nominees, interspersed with anecdotes of winning the awards.
One notable snub was for Amy Adams, hotly tipped to pick up a nomination for either Arrival or Nocturnal Animals, and after five previous nominations with no win, is surely due a Leonardo DiCaprio-style coronation. Another surprise was Michael Shannon picking up a Best Supporting Actor nod, after his co-star in the same film, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was recognised in the Golden Globes.
Meanwhile, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story repeated The Force Awakens' trick by picking up a few nods in the technical categories, which also bestowed unlikely recognition on blockbuster fare like Suicide Squad and Passengers.
The winners will be announced in a typically glitzy ceremony presented by Jimmy Kimmel at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on 26 February. See you at the dry cleaners.

Thoughts on the 89th Academy Awards
A.k.a. I didn’t watch that many movies last year, but I kept a LIST, and now a lot of those on that list are nominated and I’ll do my very best to watch most of them before the Oscars.
A quick thought if you can’t be bothered to read the long post of me talking about the nominations under the cut: The thing is, with how the Oscars work, movies that a lot of people have seen that are also nominated will likely win a lot. Because the people who vote at the Oscars have never seen everything and people will vote for what they have seen. Sometimes that ends up being something that people thought deserve to win and sometimes not. That’s how these types of voting systems work.
By which I mean to say that La La Land is going to win a hell of a lot. And I don’t doubt that it doesn’t deserve it (and I really really want to see it), but some people are going to be upset about that, and say it’s more because of the hype than because it deserves it. As I said, I can’t tell the truth of that, since I haven’t seen it yet. I bet there’s going to be some cases of that, but in the Oscars, it’s really common that more than one of the nominees deserve to win equally as much as the rest. It’s the Oscars. I try not to take it that seriously. What can you do.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it’s like the anime awards 2016 all over again
On a positive note though, what a diverse year in terms of Oscars nominations! Both in front and behind the camera. That’s great. Not fixing the problem, but moving forward. Let’s just hope people keep on celebrating these movies so that even more get made.
Kinda disappointed neither A Monster Calls or Deadpool was nominated for anything, but it is what it is. Deadpool would have been fun though. Biggest surprise is probably that Silence wasn’t nominated for more than it was. But there was a lot of great movies coming out last year.
But yeah, on the important stuff. Under the cut are almost all of the categories and the few thoughts I have on them as well as predictions and whatever else I come up with. Because I’ve seen so very little. But I’ll try to change that.
First off, I’ll be skipping because Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary (Short Subject) and Best Short Film (Live Action) because I haven’t anything useful to say on them since I usually don’t keep up with those. But I hope they all do well and I bet they’re great.
Second, bolded (unless it’s a category title) means I’ve seen it (there are so few, the shame) and cursive means it was on my list I was planning to see. I might end up watching some of the others, but the cursive ones are my priorities because I’ve wanted to see them for a long time.
BEST PICTURE La La Land Moonlight Manchester by the Sea Arrival Lion Hidden Figures Hacksaw Ridge Hell or High Water Fences
Also known as that one category people actually care about.
And I haven’t seen a single one. Which kind of makes me sad. But oh well. Hidden Figures, Arrival and La La Land are the ones on the top of my list that I really need to see. Especially Arrival. And I’m really happy there’s a sci-fi movie among the Best Picture nominees. However, I am pretty sure La La Land is going to win this one, judging by what I’ve heard people more invested than me say. I am so glad all of these movies got nominated though, because I’ve heard great things about all of them, and nomination in itself is a great sign.
BEST DIRECTOR Damien Chazelle – La La Land Barry Jenkins – Moonlight Kenneth Lonergan – Manchester by the Sea Denis Villeneuve – Arrival Mel Gibson – Hacksaw Ridge
Ugh. The thing is, from what I’ve heard, on simply the basis of directing, Mel Gibson did a stellar job here. But I don’t want him to win. Because. Ugh. Mel Gibson. If it happens it happens. They are after all supposed to vote on the direction of the movie, and not Mel Gibson as a person. But you know how it is.
Again, I’m thinking La La Land is going to take this one. I’m holding a torch for Arrival and Fences though, because I’ve heard such good thing about both of them. Not that I haven’t heard good things about La La Land and I’m sure it deserves all those good things, but just that I feel like I need to hold a torch for someone that isn’t the obvious winner. And again, I haven’t seen any of them, so, can’t really say more than that. They were all on my list of movies to see last year though, so hopefully I’ll manage to get around to them before the gala.
BEST ACTRESS Emma Stone – La La Land Natalie Portman – Jackie Isabelle Huppert – Elle Meryl Streep – Florence Foster Jenkins Ruth Negga – Loving
While I’ve heard wonderful things about Ruth Negga in Loving, I think Emma Stone is going take this one. But who knows, Meryl Streep could just descend from the ceiling and sweep it up.
BEST ACTOR Casey Affleck – Manchester by the Sea Denzel Washington – Fences Andrew Garfield – Hacksaw Ridge Ryan Gosling – La La Land Viggo Mortensen – Captain Fantastic
While I would love for Viggo Mortensen to get this, because I have a feeling I’ll really like Captain Fantastic, I don’t think he’s got a chance. From what I’ve heard, Casey Affleck is one that people are saying who is most likely to win. I have issues with Casey Affleck, but I’ll just refer back to my Gibson discussion above. Would be fun if Denzel Washington won, either for this or director. I’ve heard he’s great. I think this is one of those categories that La La Land is a bit less likely to win, but I think it could, just by the name alone, and that most people have seen it. I have also heard really great things about Andrew Garfield in Hacksaw Ridge, plus he was in Silence. So who knows? This is a tough one.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Viola Davis – Fences Michelle Williams – Manchester by the Sea Naomie Harris – Moonlight Nicole Kidman – Lion Octavia Spencer – Hidden Figures
GIVE VIOLA DAVIS AN OSCAR. No okay but I’ve heard stellar things about all of these, but Viola Davis has clearly been at the top of that. Can’t say much about anything else, since I haven’t seen the movies. Really wanna see Hidden Figures though. I’ll get there.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Mahershala Ali – Moonlight Jeff Bridges – Hell or High Water Dev Patel – Lion Lucas Hedges – Manchester by the Sea Michael Shannon – Nocturnal Animals
I literally have nothing to say about this. I know so very little about these movies. I’ve heard both Michael Shannon’s and Mahershala Ali’s names tossed around a lot. But that’s about it.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY Moonlight – Barry Jenkins, Tarell McCraney Arrival – Eric Heisserer Lion – Luke Davies Fences – August Wilson Hidden Figures – Allison Schroeder, Theodore Melfi
Again, I think A Monster Calls was kind of robbed. Oh well. Again, difficult for me to say anything, but I do hope Hidden Figures wins at least SOMETHING.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY La La Land – Damien Chazelle Manchester by the Sea – Kenneth Lonergan Hell or High Water – Taylor Sheridan The Lobster – Efthymis Filippou, Yorgos Lanthimos 20th Century Women – Mike Mills
Hey, I have a friend who talked a lot about The Lobster. Fun to see that there. Not a clue what 20th Century Women is, haven’t heard of it. Kinda sad Zootopia isn’t here, or Moana. Or Kubo. But that’s what they usually do to animated films. Probably going to be won by La La Land.
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY Linus Sandgren – La La Land Bradford Young – Arrival Greig Fraser – Lion James Laxton – Moonlight Rodrigo Prieto – Silence
My guess would be La La Land (original, I know) or Silence. But I honestly have no idea. Arrival I’ve heard great things about (also first African-American to get nominated for Best Cinematography! That’s worth celebrating).
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE Zootopia Moana Kubo and the Two Strings The Red Turtle My Life as a Zucchini
HEY LOOK IT’S A MOVIE I’VE WATCHED. Moana still isn’t out here, and I missed Kubo while it was out, but those are two movies I really want to see. My guess would be that Moana wins, surely deservedly so, but Zootopia was just so good. I loved it. I am so glad to see Kubo nominated though, since stop-motion really doesn’t get the attention it should, and here we have not one but TWO of them nominated, and even though I have not yet seen Kubo, I’m pretty sure that I’ll love it, if just for the soundtrack (which I have listened to), alone.
BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM Tanna – Australia Land of Mine – Denmark Toni Erdmann – Germany The Salesman – Iran A Man Called Ove – Sweden
I’ve actually only heard of two movies on this list, so I was considering skipping it, but I just couldn’t. Because I adore the book A Man Called Ove is based on, and it’s so funny to me that it’s nominated for not one but TWO Oscars. I can’t say much else, other than that out of the two I know, I’m pretty sure Tony Erdmann will win, but I know very little about the other two so I can’t really say that with much conviction.
BEST ORIGINAL SONG “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” – La La Land “City of Stars” – La La Land “How Far I’ll Go” – Moana “Can’t Stop the Feeling” – Trolls “The Empty Chair” - Jim: The James Foley Story
As much as I want Moana to win, this is going to go to La La Land. I’ve only heard one of these, and it’s a La La Land song. And from what I’ve heard, Audition is really good as well. Sad that not more Moana songs are on here though.
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE La La Land – Justin Hurwitz Lion – Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka Moonlight – Nicholas Britell Jackie – Mica Levi Passengers – Thomas Newman
LA LA LAND IS GOING TO WIN THIS ONE. But honestly, I’d be fine with everything as long as Passengers don’t get close to it. Out of spite.
BEST FILM EDITING La La Land – Tom Cross Moonlight – Joi McMillon, Nat Sanders Hacksaw Ridge – John Gilbert Arrival – Joe Walker Hell or High Water – Jake Roberts
I’m going to throw out a wild guess here, and say La La Land, but I’ve heard amazing things about Moonlight, and if La La Land picks up nearly everything else, it would be nice to see it win something. Great to see it keep on getting nominated though, as well as Arrival.
BEST VISUAL EFFECT Deepwater Horizon The Jungle Book Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Doctor Strange Kubo and the Two Strings
A CATEGORY WHERE I’VE SEEN MORE THAN ONE THING. TRULY A MIRACLE. (I am so predictable.)
I am 95% sure that The Jungle Book are going to take this one. It’s really great to see a stop-motion movie nominated for this category, and I don’t think it’s a loss if it doesn’t win, because at least it got acknowledged. Rogue One did some amazing new things with CGI (which I know people like to complain about, but I really can’t say that that was anything else than fantastic what they’ve managed to do and how they’ve developed that technology). But however creative and ground-breaking Rogue One was with a few effects, that was the entirety of The Jungle Book. That entire movie, except for the boy, is a special effect. It’s filmed on a green screen in a studio in Los Angeles, and there were many times I honestly could not tell. And the animals were absolutely fantastic. So yeah, I don’t feel that bad giving this to The Jungle Book.
BEST COSTUME DESIGN Allied – Joanna Johnston Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – Colleen Atwood Florence Foster Jenkins – Consolata Boyle Jackie – Madeline Fontaine La La Land – Mary Zophres
I’m just so glad Fantastic Beasts got a nomination, and while I think La La Land will win this one, having a shout-out for the amazing costumes in Fantastic Beasts is very nice.
BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING Suicide Squad – Alessandro Bertolazzi A Man Called Ove – Love Larson and Eva Con Bahr Star Trek Beyond – S. Anne Carroll and Joel Harlow
Ah yes, the Oscars nominated movie Suicide Squad. Sigh. No but I honestly don’t know with this one. I’d prefer if Suicide Squad doesn’t get it, for simply personal reasons, but I don’t know which of the other two will get it. From what I know the age make up in A Man Called Ove was really great, and I never really thought much about the makeup and hairstyling in Star Trek Beyond, but I don’t think I dare to hope that A Man Called Ove would win this one. But who knows?
BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – Stuart Craig, James Hambige, Anna Pinnock Hail, Caesar! – Jess Gonchor, Nancy Haigh La La Land – David Wasco, Sandy Reynolds-Wasco Arrival – Patrice Vermette Passengers – Guy Hendrix Dyas
Probably going to be another La La Land win, but the Fantastic Beasts and Arrival nominations have also made me very happy.
BEST SOUND EDITING Arrival Deepwater Horizon Hacksaw Ridge La La Land Sully
I’m just going to have ‘Probably La La Land’ as my standard answer when I don’t know much about these movies. But Sound Editing and Sound Design sometimes surprises me.
BEST SOUND MIXING Arrival Hacksaw Ridge La La Land Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
GIVE ROGUE ONE AN OSCAR but also probably La La Land.
BEST SHORT FILM (ANIMATED) Pearl Pear Cider and Cigarettes Piper Blind Vaysha Borrowed Time
I haven’t actually heard about any of these except for Piper and Borrowed Time, but I’m really curious about the other ones. No idea what will win, but Borrowed Time has been on my to watch list for AGES. I should get around to that.
