Historic Penman's Dam and Train Bridge (Paris, Ontario, Canada)
Penman’s Dam and Train Bridge (Paris, Ontario) The iconic S-Curve shape of the dam. The historic train trestle standing tall behind the dam. The reflections in the waters of the Grand River. The European charm of the village. It all adds up to one great photographic destination in Southern Ontario. It might not be an all-day stop, but Paris, Ontario is definitely worth a look. A bit off the…

"THINK STOLEN CAR IN LONDON TRAGEDY," Hamilton Spectator. September 2, 1933. Page 7. --- Taxi Taken in This City Kills Boy on Highway ---- Police Are Seeking Driver of Missing Automobile ----- What is thought by provincial police to be the stolen Regal taxi- cab which was taken from the front of west-end apartment a about 9 o'clock on Thursday, struck and killed Jack Murphy, age 13 years, of London, on highway No. 2 near the eastern limits of that city about two and a half hours after the cab was reported stolen in Hamilton.
Provincial Officer C. E. Palmer, of Paris, who saw the car, thought that the number was S-4568, but was not sure. This is the number of the stolen automobile and officials of the taxi company this morning told the Spectator that that was the number of their missing car.
The man driving the death car was described as being short and stout, 28 years old and wearing a light suit.
Attempted Robbery A short while later, just before midnight on Thursday, the same car drove into a garage at Thamesford, and filled up with eight gallons of gas. The driver got out of the car and attempted to hold up the owner of the station. The bandit, however, was frightened of. He leaped into the car and drove off in the direction of Woodstock. The car was chased as far as Ingersoll, but was lost at this point. It is thought by police to have continued to Woodstock, most likely by side roads.
Police in Woodstock reported to the local police at 5.10 o'clock yesterday afternoon that a set of markers, EE-345, had been stolen from that city and were thought to have been taken to use on the stolen Hamilton car.

A little about myself. My name is surprisingly Mike. I was born in 1984 in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. Try find it. Fun fact: I have lived in 17 places in 38 years. This includes Australia, New Zealand, Manitoba, Ontario and Newfoundland.
My partner and I recently purchased a lovely house on a hill in Paris, Ontario. We hope it’s the last for a long while. I am excited to become established in the community.
I think the thing I am best at is guitar. I have played, taught, and performed for 25+ years, all left-handed. I enjoy expensive beer. I enjoy cheap beer. I love golf. Under 10 handicap, some years. I ride my bike a lot. One cat. One dog. New Jersey Devils. Toronto Blue Jays. I work late – really late. Sometimes 3 in the morning late. It’s nice to catch the west coast hockey games while burning the midnight oil. I am a classic extroverted introvert. Overly excited in social situations followed by a string of days recovering inside. We all have things to improve.
I still love doing all the design and development work for clients. I have no immediate interest in changing that. The work you receive will be from me unless it is a specific outsource request. It is important to me that you receive designs and development by myself for accountability, consistency, and quality.

A Cloudy Day in Paris 1994 by Don Kalkman Via Flickr: Before Canadian National decided it needed to take over most of the railroads in North America, they kept to themselves, and you actually had to go to Canada to see CN power.
Train 363 was rolling through Paris, Ontario on August 15, 1994 behind a EMD GP40-2LW/M636 combination.

massive cities like New York and Toronto will have cool independent shops and cafe options and quaint little towns will have cool independent shops and cafe options and if you live in a medium sized city you will simply have lots of bars for the college kids and one (1) good independent cafe that closes at 4 PM

“IS ARRESTED AT SUDBURY,” Brantford Expositor. June 24, 1930. Page 7. ---- Suspect in County Theft Charge Is Being Brought Back ---- Provincial Officer Campbell went to Sudbury yesterday to bring back to the city Hector MacBride who is wanted by the Paris police on a charge of theft concerning some automobile accessories that were missed in the county some time ago.
The arrest of MacBride took place at Sudbury following the issue of a warrant here by Chief Brimstone, of Paris, who started on the trail after three suspects one being the local man, another James Bullock now held on a charge of stealing, or being in possession of cheese, and another who is not yet apprehended.
Bullock's capture was made in the city recently by Sergeant Blower and P.C. Rutherford, but it was not known here at that time that he was connected with the rob- beries from county garages.
Chief Brimstone, after making sure of his ground, asked the provincial police to co-operate with him as the suspected men were widely separated. Proceeds of the robbery were found in the county and from this discovery the check-up was made.
Provincial Officer Campbell is expected in the city with his charge to-day.

Tumblr media
The first week of the new year is always special to me as it marks the anniversary of the Design Studio. This year, I’ve decided that I want to make more connections. I have never advertised or reached out through social media outlets. I have always been self-conscious about posting and never wanted my content to be in someone’s ‘way’ as they scroll. The idea of mass messaging for page likes has never sat well with me.
But small businesses must adapt and present the best examples of what they are good at. You can get stuck in a cycle of repetitive work if you don’t. Exactly one year ago, I had developed this entire 10-year anniversary design and campaign that I just never found the urgency to release. The pandemic kept slogging on in waves and didn’t help. 2023 is my commitment to post the work that I am proud of and write about things I know about in my industry. Things that may help others.
So here we are – 10+1 wonderful years of design, development, and making things look pretty while functioning correctly. I look forward to making the effort to create new connections while staying committed to those who have trusted me and helped get me to where I am today.
Thanks for 11 years! Visit my website at https://mike-doyle.com for more information.
