Panzi has taught Wu Xie everything he knows, but it's still not enough to calm his nerves. When WU Xie asks to attend university, Panzi contacts an old friend and Wu Xie finally meets his master.

Panzi cursed the sun. He was half blind in its direct glare, almost completely unable to see the flying roundhouse kick launched at him by Wu Xie. He blocked it—barely—his lower arm bristling with pain as Wu Xie’s leg collided, bone ringing against bone. Wu Xie hissed and landed, leaping to kick once more, but Panzi followed him, circling around until the mid-summer sun burned the back of his neck. Now able to see, he ducked under Wu Xie’s second kick and like lightning, pushed the landing young man off balance. Wu Xie stumbled but stayed on his feet.  A flash of soft fabric and warm cream danced in the corner of Panzi’s vision, and he almost forgot himself, catching and redirecting Wu Xie’s punch at the last second before turning it into a hasty arm bar. Wu Xie squirmed, trying to wriggle free, leaving Panzi mere seconds to catch his breath. Wu Xie had finally caught up to his speed. Only experience kept Panzi a hair’s breadth ahead of him in their sparring. However, despite his impressive speed, the boy had yet to reach Panzi’s level of strength, if he even could. He took after his father even after a decade of training, staying skinny no matter how much food Panzi put in front of him.  “Ow! Ow ow ow! I give!” Panzi released the arm bar, and they both crawled to their feet, panting and sweating in the burning sun.  “You did well, Xiao-Xie. You almost had me,” Panzi said, pulling Wu Xie up with him. It was only a matter of time before Wu Xie was beating him every time they sparred.

Thank you to everyone whose ever read one of my fics, kudosed, commented, nodded their head in 'not bad not bad' before clicking off, to even those who've clicked in, gone uh what? and left, you've all been amazing.

I think at this point I'm going to stop writing for a while. The hyperfixation has ended and I have more joy doing other things now. I may stick my head back into fanfic every now and again if there's something I'm desperate to write, but the truth of the matter is there is no joy here anymore for me. Writing fanfic has just become a chore and I'm not interested in something that doesn't make me happy.

I know it's cute and fun to baby-fy xiaogr for the joke or headcanon and I Know to wu xie he is just a sweetie pie, a kitten, a nice lil man who needs to be cradled and hugged

But like he is also a murderer. A very old murderer who has zero problems slicing apart anyone in his way (especially pre meeting wu xie and wu xies Moral Qualms about it), especially fellow tomb raiders he views as equally dangerous, and PARTICULARLY other immortals/monsters upon which kill Bill sirens go off and he goes into rage mode trying to murder

see The Lost Tomb and his first kill in front of wu xie of a person wu xie called innocent then wu xie Backtracking trying to mesh his morals with the new reality that xiaoge is not as nice super hero savior to Everyone as he is to wu xie, AS xiaoge is trying his best to convince wu xie and everyone he's a monster Maybe in an act of self hatred and isolating

Or see The Lost Tomb 2 where once he's alone with pangzi, both of their reason for morality rules Wu Xie out of sight, both would have killed A Ning and company and definitely planned to if the company proved dangerous, and xiaoge definitely wanted to murder that immortal dude the two found sleeping because xiaoge thinks something that old deserves to die (just like himself ;-; ) and then pangzi yells at xiaoge that wu xie would be so hurt if he HEARD that so get it together

On that note, pangzi is YES a big softie perfect husband material who loves his friends dearly and people he deems worth helping but like. He was also a colleague equal in business to people like San xing and Panzi and pangzi definitely was killing opposing tomb raiders As Much as A Ning or Xiao Hua or San Xing pre-wu xie. Pangzi purposely tones himself down dangerous appearing a Lot when first getting with wu xie, because he wants wu xie to be his friend and trust him and has the Emotional Intelligence to notice wu xie would be upset if pangzi was cutthroat to others Too Much (or rather that pangzi lies and acts friendly but will actually murder a bitch on a dime if he thinks it'll help him/his friends survive, it's just pangzi tones that down when wu xie can see). And yeah the longer he knows wu xie the less its an act and the more he just doesnt react as extreme to other tomb raiders etc and stops being as willing to kill (and more on the same page as wu xie instead of thinking he Would do more If wu xie weren't there cause it would be Safer to do more). But like wu xie VERY much gravitated toward these 2 dudes similar to why he gravitated to San xing and A Ning. Badass dangerous competent older people who tomb raid. But pangzi and xiaoge ultimately returned wu xies attention with sincerity, which was more than San shu ever did big lying liar. And A Ning maybe wanted to be sincere on some level, but also on some level wanted to help wu xie BY teaching him ppl like her are too dangerous To Trust, by showing him she shouldn't be. More of a hard lessons kind of teacher compared to pangzi who more leaned toward helping wu xie survive by softening around him and catering more to him.

Like. One of my fave scenes is The Lost Tomb when yang yang xiaoge is so READY to murder the immortal who did literally Nothing he didn't even wake up yet and to wu xie the guy is fully innocent, but wu xies also arguing to the group thar Dangerous Engima Xiaoge might have good intentions give him a chance, the xiaoge Murders the innocent sleeping body both cause he Hates immortals (are u projecting at all) and Kinda wants to shove it in wu xies face that xiaoge does not see himself as a hero and its stupid to paint him that way. And wu xie is flabbergasted and thrown off and then Still scrambles to spin it that they shouldn't turn on xiaoge. As xiaoge is saying to their faces I'm a Monsterrrrrrr probably mostly to throw in wu xies direction and challenge him and see if this nice naive dude can actually continue thinking Positively of xiaoge even when confronted with the reality of who he actually is

(This is all based on the xiaoge in the dramas. He and pangzi may be differently characterized in the novels, like wu xie is to a degree)

First part of my next Papa Panzi two-parter!

Two years have passed since the fall of the Wu. Wu Xie has restarted school, but one day, when he comes home from school in tears, Panzi begins to suspect his son is hiding something from him.

Snippet:

Panzi never once thought his life would one day end up like this. When he was in the army, he expected to die on the battlefield, like many of his friends, in a hail of bullets and blood. When he had begun to work for Wu Sanxing, he had initially expected to die underground, either ripped to bloody ribbons by traps or dragged into Hell by the monsters that lurked in the shadows. Now, he didn’t know what to expect.  He sat at the small dining table he had sat at every day for the last two years—give or take—surrounded by the same small apartment. Little had changed since the early days, only a slowly growing collection of family photos and a fresh coat of paint changing the once bare walls. The rug was the same. The sofa bed Panzi called his own was the same. Even the draft that blew in through the gap beneath the front door was the same. He was alive, and despite his ongoing search for the Wu and Xie, the shadow of death no longer haunted him.  A dozen sheets of paper lay spread out before him, the names of the small team he had collected staring up at him. Panzi wished he could be the one out searching; being out in the field had always suited him best, but Wu Xie needed him, and he refused to take the boy anywhere near danger. So here he was, sitting at a dining table and reading reports from the team he envied.
